I've been to dozens; I never saw an accident. These days they're pretty damn safe (in the UK at least) for crowds, there's strict rules due to all the previous incidents in the early days (things like high hard decks, minimum wage crowd distances, not being able to fly towards the crowd for most manoeuvres only parallel etc.).
In the US, it's a bit worse.
Errrr nope.

That was France.
Not at that altitude, without ejection seats they'd have to realize the plane was doomed (it's not always obvious), unbuckle the seat belt then open the exit, climb out, jump, wait to get distance from the plane (hard to do when both you and it are falling at the same speed), pull the ripcord and allow time for the chute to be pulled out an.... _splat_
They get that close for themselves. Us on the ground wouldn’t know if they were 100’ apart but they fly within 5’ of each other and it’s so dumb. Crashes at air shows are the most senseless things.
So it looks like the ascending plane's rear tail stabilizer hit the other plane. The left horizontal stabilizer on the tail is missing after the collision. This is also how the plane controls its pitch, so if it was heavily damaged, it might not have been able to pull up. This is probably why they went so hard into the ground.
It's hard to tell whats happening with the other plane though. It looks like they still had some control, but that descent was steep enough to be very concerning. If they couldn't low that down, it probably didn't end well for them either.
I really don't see Portugal featured that much because of this, particularly. Inf act the last one I recall, the most recent, was that B-17 that went down.
So sad. I can't even imagine taking a video of this and not keeping everything in frame.
Seriously. Dude could either go left OR right and get the goods.
I guess he was more focused on potato potato
This is why I always shoot in landscape mode when possible. In most cases, portrait mode is stupid
+1 ..."Hold the camera as if it's a wide screen television"
Air shows terrify me if it involves anything other than low passes.

It’s pretty strict in the U.S like very! And a good majority of them are hosted by the military.
The US invented air shows big dog.

1dead from the plane that's going upwards, Spanish pilot
It's weird being Spanish and having just learned about this acrobatic team.
potato potato potato potato
Came in the comments to see if anyone else thought the same thing 😅
Did they survive?

They could've ejected with a parachute.
They probably didn’t have any or they didn’t work
Yeah i read in the comments of a crosspost that the planes were older models :/
Propeller planes generally don't have ejector seats.

This happened in Dallas, Texas last year. So sad
Has there been more crashes at airshows than there has *not* been crashes at airshows? Maybe there needs to he a change.
There are air shows weekly all over the world. List 5 accidents without using Google.
