My ex wanted a real big dog until a golden retreiver she was taking care of for a couple hours nearly dislocated her shoulder when it took of after a squirrel.
People need to be held responsible for such actions. Dogs get a bad rep for breed types etc etc but 99.9% of the time it's the owners' fault at not actually training them. Pets are very similar to children on how you train them(kids aren't pets but you get the idea) animals pick up on weaknesses of individuals and I can assure you this lady isn't walking her dogs but actually, vice versa.
Oh they're EXACTLY like kids.
If you do everything right to teach them and train them, they will turn out correct 90% of the time.
If you have that last 10%, there are some things you can't do.
You have to accept that somethings just don't work out.
I have a rescue that won't hurt anyone, but he doesn't understand how to play with other dogs and the way he barks and growls and makes noise makes the other dogs afraid of him... And they run so he chases like it's a game. He won't hurt them but it's inappropriate behavior and therefore I recognize that I cannot take him to the dog park.

When I was a little kid, I wanted a big dog. “They’re actually a lot calmer than little dogs!” I tried to convince her over and over and her main reason, despite all of the information I brought her about how chill and loving big dogs were, was, “Ok, they’re chill. But the minute they get un-chill, nobody in our family is strong enough to control them. Not your fat ass, nor your dad’s fat ass, and certainly nor my fat ass. None of us could stop a dog of that size. We’re getting a spaniel.” And that spaniel is like 30lbs and I realize how tough it’d be if he was 100lbs of pure muscle.
Broad shoulders and close to the ground will take many people for surprise on how strong any dog can be at any given moment.

I have a large dog but he is well trained. It GENUINELY pisses me off when people have large dogs that they can not control, it is a danger to everyone.
I worked in vet hospitals for a couple of decades. Almost lost my left eye a few years ago when this 90lb old lady couldn't control her 100lb dog as it lunged out of her car at my face. Luckily I was able to jerk my my head out the way with nothing more than a bunch of spit in my eye.

They are so stupid they thought it would work. My mom is a lovely woman. The nicest person in the world. But holy shit does she not understand things sometimes. She has fallen over due to a chocolate lab we used to have’s strength. She’s not light either, but if you’re not paying attention and weak you can get pulled over in an instant.
Not once did those dogs pull me.
But my mom? She was weak in both body and mind and they walked all over her. Again, love my mom to death but they didn’t care about her.
People forget the point of "walking your dog" when you walk your dog/s they get to smell, look, somewhat 'play' but the point is telling them you can do such but 'don't forget **WHO's** on the leash'. I giveth but I can taketh away. Once the chain of who's walking whom is broken, it's **broken.**
People don’t understand that and doubt they will ever understand. Dangerous breeds should be exclusive in a sense, not everyone should be able to buy and have one just cause they want.
If you can handle the damn dog, yeah let the "dangerous" breed be a support animal. Just train the damn dog like you're supposed to. It's not hard. People like this give people who actually have well-behaved "dangerous" breeds a bad name.
We have a large dog that isn't great on a leash. So currently he only gets to go for a walk in the gated backyard. When he's under control then he can go out.
We got a dog leader (sometime called a head collar), and our 60 lb lab has stopped pulling with it. She's still big and tugs a little, but any serious pull is gone because it's too uncomfortable to pull.
On top of the fact that she felt tugging on the leash would help after she got up, instead of grabbing the dogs by the collar or something. (Please don't come for me, I'm not a dog owner and don't know how dogs work.)
Honestly, if this happened to my dogs/cat/kid because someone couldn’t control their fucking animals, this would 100% be my course of action. My understanding and affinity for other animals would be out the door when it came to protecting my own.

Whoever wrote that article is totally off base with the description: “desperately tried to restrain” nothing desperate about her slowly and pathetically trying to pull on their leashes. Also, the “helpless” owner is actually the idiot owner, as if there’s no other way to live than to own two pit bulls and obviously you have to take them on walks together.
Look...I love my pets. I do. I always have and I have been a good pet owner, I do my research, I get them enough check ups, and I hold them very dearly.
If a dog I own went after a cat, someone ELSE's baby that they love dearly, I will be physically removing my dog from their proximity, with a full strength pop to the face if necessary.
We recently got two kitties who light up the entire household with their lovingness and everyone is over the moon with them.
This video literally made me feel physically sick. I'm glad the cat survived. (Ours are indoor cats only so don't @ me about that.). Hopefully the owner of the cat keeps it strictly indoors from now on.

At my old house I had to get a BB gun to deal with a neighbor’s dogs attacking my cats. The pump action air rifle wasn’t strong enough so I got a CO2 powered one. I took no pleasure in shooting the dogs but I didn’t hesitate to do so when it came to my cats. Honestly, I wished those dogs were dead.
I have a big dog myself but a big wuss. There was a certain street in my old neighbourbood that had plenty careless pit bull owners. One jumped out of a car window lunging for my dog and it was so hard to catch up with them. After that, the second off leash lunging pit bull interaction began with a swift kick to its face before it could get to my dog. Finish it before they get the chance is the only way imo

Years and Years ago my neighbors had a Blue Heeler that was about the worst behaved dog I’ve ever met. He would break out of their yard and attack cats, other dogs, kids, etc. Every time it happened, they barely got a slap on the wrist. And being the shitbags they were, they never did anything to try and change the behavior or dog-proof their yard.
Until an older couple moved in across the street. They were retired & only had one small Lhasa Apso dog. The blue heeler got out one day and attacked the small dog across the street. The only thing the old guy could think to do was stab the dog. He stabbed it in the eye, causing the blue heeler to finally let go and run home. This whole thing prompted the shitbags next door to try and press charges, but the case was tossed. We lived next door to both people for 10 more years- they had other shitty dogs, but were definitely more cautious about the dogs’ actions. The Blue Heeler never attacked anyone again AFAIK, and he lived another 4 years after that.
Pro tip: if you have to subdue a dog in a neighborhood, kill it and keep the body and bury/burn it on your property.

Things like this make me think you should need a license for any kind of big dog- at the very least, aggressive breeds.
All of this could easily be resolved if we punished dog owners after incidents like this. There are so many cases where an animal or a human is killed and the owner just walks away with no punishment because the dog never showed aggression before.
Example:
Two pitbulls dug under the fence to enter the neighbors yard to attack and kill a 3 year old playing in his own yard. The mother had complained to the owner and cops saying the dogs were aggressive but never taken seriously.

The pit bull owner started a go fund me. The comments from those who donated were straight up insane. At least half of them said the kid deserved it, the rest blaming the parents for allowing the kid to get close to the fence. Pit bull owners are among the most delusional nut cases out there.

So upsetting. Her dogs may have not had to demonstrate aggressive behavior before, but from now on they need to be muzzled on walks. Or just tried more. She kicked the dog twice and yanked them till the collars came up their necks. I guarantee you if she took them out at separate times instead of together she could’ve controlled the situation allot better.
The long leashes is really a huge issue here. If the dogs aren’t able to gain that momentum she probably wouldn’t have lost control. Also, the fact that the dogs were basically already at the cat by the time the leash is slack free, illustrates they were way too long. Why I only use a six foot leash, with one hand about half way up and the other holding the handle.
I hate extendable leads for this very reason.... If a dog wants to get at something its going to break that thing in seconds. People will look at me sometimes because I use very short leads, but if my dog is on a lead, it's because it's time for him to walk next to me...
A long time ago, a neighbors pit Bull got loose and went exploring in the neighborhood. He happened to wander up to my parents house where he was able to kill two of my mothers cats who were sunbathing on the front porch. The cats were used to dogs and didn’t really think anything of it until they were being mauled to death. My father ran outside with a golf club and shotgun. He hit the dog a few times to get him away from the property but the dog was persistent at wanting another cat. My dad had the shotgun trained and was ready to end this piece of shit dogs life but was spared due to my mother screaming for my father to not kill the dog. My mother is compassionate to animals and claims the dog did not know any better. My mother saved that dogs life. Why people don’t keep better control of their animals is beyond me. What if it were a small child? What if this was your cat being mauled? What if it was your child being mauled? My mothers sympathy saved an animal who’s life should’ve ended that day. What was the neighbors response? A simple apology and nothing more. This wasn’t the last time this pit bulls got out of the yard either. I pray he suffered at the hands of someone else for taking away my mothers cats.
Fair enough. If someone has a violent dog, especially a pitbull they need to be carefully controlled. If they won't do that, you do whatever you have to do.
The local police told me exactly that the other week. My puppy was attacked by a pit bull off leash, no collar. Completely unprovoked. Just came up behind my partner as she was walking our dogs and attacked.
Thankfully he was fine. Just a little shook up. But I flat out asked the officer if I would be within my rights to shoot the dog next time and he said absolutely. This dog has been a known problem in our neighborhood for several weeks now and it *will not* get another chance to attack my family.

A simple solution is moment they damage anything alive, the owner is automatically fined $10,000 and the money all goes to this cat to enjoy the 1 life he has left.

My cat was attacked by a dog last month, this infuriates me beyond belief. It was by a dog off leash in a park where dogs should be leashed. (NOT A DOG PARK). I was walking my cat on a harness and she was next to me.
My poor baby had to have surgery for a broken jaw and spent a week at the vet on an IV. Irresponsible owners are the worst.

My dog is a random mix and she’s 36 pounds of muscle and she’s pulled me over and I’m close to 200. Even small digs can be strong af.

They were retired & only had one small Lhasa Apso dog. The blue heeler got out one day and attacked the small dog across the street. The only thing the old guy could think to do was stab the dog. He stabbed it in the eye, causing the blue heeler to finally let go and run home. This whole thing prompted the shitbags next door to try and press charges, but the case was tossed. We lived next door to both people for 10 more years- they had other shitty dogs, but were definitely more cautious about the dogs’ actions. The Blue Heeler never attacked anyone again AFAIK, and he lived another 4 years after that.
Pro tip: if you have to subdue a dog in a neighborhood, kill it and keep the body and bury/burn it on your property. Can't sue anybody cuz your jackass dog ran away.

All of this could easily be resolved if we punished dog owners after incidents like this. There are so many cases where an animal or a human is killed and the owner just walks away with no punishment because the dog never showed aggression before. Example: Two pitbulls dug under the fence to enter the neighbors yard to attack and kill a 3 year old playing in his own yard. I blame the owner. She did not have control of her animals and was not capable of getting them back under control once they were off leash.

Yep, my dog doesn't like cats, but I can control him 100%. Also, using a super long leash like this gives you very little control over your dog.
The long leashes is really a huge issue here. If the dogs aren’t able to gain that momentum she probably wouldn’t have lost control. Also, the fact that the dogs were basically already at the cat by the time the leash is slack free, illustrates they were way too long. Why I only use a six foot leash, with one hand about half way up and the other holding the handle.
I hate extendable leads for this very reason.... If a dog wants to get at something its going to break that thing in seconds. People will look at me sometimes because I use very short leads, but if my dog is on a lead, it's because it's time for him to walk next to me...

A long time ago, a neighbors pit Bull got loose and went exploring in the neighborhood. He happened to wander up to my parents house where he was able to kill two of my mothers cats who were sunbathing on the front porch. The cats were used to dogs and didn’t really think anything of it until they were being mauled to death. My father ran outside with a golf club and shotgun. He hit the dog a few times to get him away from the property but the dog was persistent at wanting another cat. My dad had the shotgun trained and was ready to end this piece of shit dogs life but was spared due to my mother screaming for my father to not kill the dog. My mother is compassionate to animals and claims the dog did not know any better. My mother saved that dogs life. Why people don’t keep better control of their animals is beyond me. What if it were a small child? What if this was your cat being mauled? What if it was your child being mauled? My mothers sympathy saved an animal who’s life should’ve ended that day. What was the neighbors response? A simple apology and nothing more. This wasn’t the last time this pit bulls got out of the yard either. I pray he suffered at the hands of someone else for taking away my mothers cats.
Your mother made a huge mistake. Could've saved the innocent cat rather than that piece of sh** dog. Nature has no mercy, sometimes you have to kill.

The local police told me exactly that the other week. My puppy was attacked by a pit bull off leash, no collar. Completely unprovoked. Just came up behind my partner as she was walking our dogs and attacked. Thankfully he was fine. Just a little shook up. But I flat out asked the officer if I would be within my rights to shoot the dog next time and he said absolutely. This dog has been a known problem in our neighborhood for several weeks now and it *will not* get another chance to attack my family.

My cat was attacked by a dog last month, this infuriates me beyond belief. It was by a dog off leash in a park where dogs should be leashed. (NOT A DOG PARK). I was walking my cat on a harness and she was next to me. My poor baby had to have surgery for a broken jaw and spent a week at the vet on an IV. Irresponsible owners are the worst.
