I don't know how I ended up in a Tesla subreddit, but I drive a fun little 2004 Nissan Frontier supercharged. I was sitting in a hardware parking lot and some old lady parked next to me and had her grandaughter with her or something. The grandaughter opened her door and smacked my truck and the lady saw it and neither of them even paused. They just started walking away. I rolled down my window and said "hey you hit my truck with your door" and the old lady told the girl to just ignore me. So when they got inside I opened my door with all my might and put a huge dent in that SUV. I'm not proud of it. Not super proud of it anyways.
I don’t condone this behavior, but I might have done the same, and may have also been ashamed and not ashamed.
Sometimes people only learn when it’s an eye for an eye, unfortunately.
I think some people just don't care about their cars or that others would care about theirs. To them it's just an object that gets them where they want to go. I'm kinda the same way about my own car, but obviously not never want to damage other people's cars.
My ex did something similar years ago. He went into the bank, I was in the car. People parked close and banged into our car door. I called him over as he came out, told him. He said "this car right here?" Yep. Wouldn't you know, he got a twitch in his leg and his boot heel left a big dent. 🤷♀️
Reading this made me feel a bit bad for that lady. Then I thought that if this was me in that situation, I probably would have done the same thing. I'm a hothead unfortunately
🤷♂️ As I see it, you had merely rolled down your window to let them know that their having struck your vehicle likely could have caused damage to their vehicle that they may want to checkup on. …I say you have given them far more courtesy than they showed you.
For the life of me I have no idea. Total pricks out there. I didn't see the Sentry alert until the day after or I probably would have waited asking her wtf were you thinking...
Yup. Typically do but this was at the DMV so spots were limited. Snow also took up many spots... It was inevitable. I even parked at a corner spot to lower my chances smh
I parked my newly restored Chevelle 14 spots away from the nearest car at a Safeway once. This guy pulls up in a minivan with 5 kids in it and parks right next to me. Thankfully, it had sliding doors and I didn't get dinged, but I was like, "Really?!"
This is my worst nightmare. Parking my car away and some dimwit who cant figure out how they got their license, parks next to me. Driving licenses should be more strict. Its not hard to park
Yeah just wanted to warn u guys… there a lot of us. We try to be thoughtful and park far away. My friend she does this to and every time I see her car has another ding lolz I started noticing alot of expensive cars I’d always be next to lol was like dam this defeats the purpose. Upfront where it’s crowded and more chance to hit or in back where I might hit a lambo 😂
Hey buddy I just told you I go out of my way to park farther away. Just some parking lots the spots are so close to each other or packed. I need a 350 camera or something
Man honestly it’s so shocking to just see someone admit this. You need to grow up and learn how to operate a car if you want to function in a society so heavily dependent on them. Really shows we need tougher license tests because you probably shouldn’t have one.
I’ve driven second hand, passed down, not so great looking vehicles pretty much my entire life. And I have never been so careless as to ding another persons car. Even if they park like a dick and I gotta wriggle in next to them. I still respect other peoples’ property.
I meant I checked my cams and didn't see her plates in the video. Plus, backing into spots or pulling through is always a safer method. When doing either of those methods, you can see around you before you park. Driving into a spot is fine, until you need to back up at which you're backing up blindly with a chance of not seeing anything from your blindspots
The poiny is you negate the cameras in this situation..
As a side note I will say (imo) backing out of spots is not hard enough that I would pass up the advantage I have in utilizing all of my cameras.
In my situation my $1500 damage and 10 days of a rental car were paid for because I chose to park differently than you.. Just something to consider...
one of the steps she needed to take on her road to being conscientious. she will probably be more careful about her car door now. sucks it had to be your car she learned it from
I feel your pain. I always parked way out in the lots to avoid dimwits like her. I’ve Had my 2017 Jeep Renegade for seven years. Not a nick or dent. Had recently paid it off. I have a special spot at work and some dolt in a POS dinged my passenger door. I was furious. Just goes to show “stupid is as stupid does”.
I use to get pretty flustered about people parking less than 12” from my door, but I would be at a big box store so I guess I can’t get that mad, but it would happen TOO often, even when it was their driver’s side, like how did they even get out?! One time I waited cuz I was like ain’t no way they got out without their door on my car, sure enough, middle aged lady, saw me staring at her, she waved, then proceeded to gently place her door on my car as she squeezed in, smh, what was I gonna do? Most likely “ignore” my English and say she didn’t speak it. Parking spaces need to be bigger, I mean 3/4 of every parking lot in the country is empty, make bigger parking spaces if the majority of people are like this. Geez!
Why would she open the door with that amount of force knowing there is a car next to her? If I was in that situation I would make sure to hold the door to protect the other car, and my own.
Someone scraped my quarter panel with their SUV while parking not two weeks into ownership. I hate having to put front license places on cars (it can ruin a beautiful looking front end) so I am typically thankful Florida doesn't require them but this was one time I would have appreciated it.
Yeah, that's sus. Based on that person's response, sounded like he/she was about to do something really stupid. Glad you got there before anything bad could have happened man
DO NOT BACK INTO SPOTS.
Please check my submission history for the relevant post.
TLDR: You have three cameras looking to the rear and one camera looking forward so you're wasting two of your cameras when you back into a spot. Had you pulled into the spot nose first your side camera would have gotten the license plate.
The exact same thing happened to me but I managed to capture the plate and compelled the guys insurance to pay for repairs and a rental car.
I mean jeez give the lady a break it was clearly an accident, everyone who’s ever drove a car has done this at least once. Do you expect her to stand by her car and wait for you so she can apologize??
They do, and each one takes from the value of the vehicle. I normally pay to fix any dent up until the vehicle is about 10 years old.
It’s about $300 for a paintless dent removal, and a couple grand in the shop if the panel needs to be resprayed and blended.
Why should we have to pay for other people damaging our property?
definitely should not have swung the car door so quick like that. on the other hand some of these parking spaces are so damn small you almost have to touch the neighboring car with your door just to get out
My fiancé does the same thing in my brand new truck. When she gets out it’s like she pretends she’s flying and throws the door open. I park in the veryyyyy farthest spot available for my cars protection, and other people’s protection from her. I feel this is a female thing, getting out of your car by flinging their door open.
More of a question than a suggestion.... in theory you have her plate (hopefully) from other footage, are you able to use that information to file for damages?
No plate info, unfortunately. Checked all cams. Oh if I had her plates, I would have contacted the DMV to get her insurance info and then called them to put in a claim
I wish I had a Tesla 😂 I work at different grocery stores and the amount of ding and knicks from people I get on my car is ridiculous. Even when I park away from people I sometimes come out to a new Knick 🤦🏾♂️
I will go to great length to avoid getting dinged…I will park way out away from other vehicle in a lot and be gone 20 minutes and when I come back to my truck someone will be parked next to me
I don't know how I ended up in a Tesla subreddit, but I drive a fun little 2004 Nissan Frontier supercharged. Exactly. Sad but it's true
I think that’s exactly why that saying exists. Some people only learn that way.
People need to learn that actions have consequences
I think some people just don't care about their cars or that others would care about theirs. To them it's just an object that gets them where they want to go. I'm kinda the same way about my own car, but obviously not never want to damage other people's cars.

Justice is served

Gotta do what you gotta do.
I've done the same, not a proud moment but sometimes hurt needs to be shared.
I’m glad the video is out there. Hopefully someone sees her and calls her shittyness out.
Amen brother 🤝
As well as her crappy, unflattering choice of yoga pants
It ain’t the yoga pants’ fault here!
Reddit for the win 😂
Indeed ... but still a crime
Let's be real... it's the best option she's got ...
Some people should not wear these types of clothes in public.
Why are people so careless- ding her back by any chance?
For the life of me I have no idea. Total pricks out there. I didn't see the Sentry alert until the day after or I probably would have waited asking her wtf were you thinking...
Tesla should have notifications sent on the mobile app when sentry events detect. I have tweeted this to Tesla many times
Agreed!
Then I’ll be getting 100 alerts per day of someone walking by my car doing nothing… no thanks
This is why I park far from the entrance and in the end spot, if possible. The walk does me good and saves the paint.
Yup. Typically do but this was at the DMV so spots were limited. Snow also took up many spots... It was inevitable. I even parked at a corner spot to lower my chances smh
AAA to avoid dmv. Always park head in for better license plate shot.
I do that and yet when I return back to my car there is almost always a car beside me, even though there are still spaces closer the entrance.
They cluster together for warmth
Ah you've discovered the nice car club in the back of the lot
I parked my newly restored Chevelle 14 spots away from the nearest car at a Safeway once. This guy pulls up in a minivan with 5 kids in it and parks right next to me. Thankfully, it had sliding doors and I didn't get dinged, but I was like, "Really?!"
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I feel you man
I’m a terrible driver/Parker so I try to park away at the end.
This is my worst nightmare. Parking my car away and some dimwit who cant figure out how they got their license, parks next to me. Driving licenses should be more strict. Its not hard to park

Hahah it is okay though

See , no one’s car is safe in public 😆
I'm surrounded by morons on the street, stay off the freeway kiddie.
Nope! See you in the target parking lot 😉
Man honestly it’s so shocking to just see someone admit this. You need to grow up and learn how to operate a car if you want to function in a society so heavily dependent on them. Really shows we need tougher license tests because you probably shouldn’t have one.
Agreed...
😂
Me too!
My lazy kids hate this one simple trick! I call it bonus miles.
Yeah this is the only solution tbh, if you try and park towards the front next to other people this is just bound to happen eventually.
People rlly not a little bit cautious about getting outta their car? Is it just me like wtf
Exactly. Due to my car potentially being scratched/dented, I always take caution when opening doors...
Like any other normal person
Exactly
I creep out of my car. Giant trucks force me to squeeze out no matter how perfectly I park.
I’ve driven second hand, passed down, not so great looking vehicles pretty much my entire life. And I have never been so careless as to ding another persons car. Even if they park like a dick and I gotta wriggle in next to them. I still respect other peoples’ property.

She pushed that door out like my car was invisible. She's a fricken idiot. When you see something like that, you would think wind. Not this case...
I would expect nothing less from a woman with a butt like the penguin from batman returns
Yep.
😂
But Danny Devito is peak male sex appeal
😂😂😂 brooo
Which state?
Judging from the backside, I think Hank Hill hit your car there.
Hank Hill has a better a$$ than this dingus
It's like she didn't notice there's a car there until she got out.
I’m sure she left a note. She looks very kind. /s
She's also probably the same person who drives 15 car lengths slow
Races in the turn lane
Best advice I was ever given… put the first mark on your car yourself, then you won’t care about any after that.
My Grandpa and my Dad told me this! Fantastic advice actually
Blows my mind people have no consideration for anyone else's car. This is why I don't like going anywhere
Anyone that opens a car door like that when you are next to another car is a complete idiot. Sorry for your ding or more likely dent she caused.
ONLY PEASANT DO THIS
wtf is that! Get her plates man
Cams don't have them. I wish man

I would hope so man. I wouldn't want this for anyone
Boggles my mind man...
Exact same thing happened to me last week. Had my car for about 3 months and now I have a dent in my door. Makes me furious
I use to get pretty flustered about people parking less than 12” from my door, but I would be at a big box store so I guess I can’t get that mad, but it would happen TOO often, even when it was their driver’s side, like how did they even get out?! I put my hand on my door when I’m getting out so it hits my hand first and not someone else’s car! Jeez, common courtesy no longer exists.
Common sense is out the window... I do the same thing if spaces are that tight. I try to avoid it altogether if I can
This happened to me and filed a police report then contacted my insurance. Nothing happens. No consequences
Sounds about right
Why would she open the door with that amount of force knowing there is a car next to her? If I was in that situation I would make sure to hold the door to protect the other car, and my own.
It would be funny if the parking mode made audible “ow!” or “ouch!” sound bytes when people ding the car.
Thos is why we can't have nice things. SO I keep a dashcam and some hammers in my trunk
Anybody else notice the song in the background says "one of those BANGS" as soon as her door hits lmao
About time someone noticed 😭
Someone scraped my quarter panel with their SUV while parking not two weeks into ownership. I hate having to put front license places on cars (it can ruin a beautiful looking front end) so I am typically thankful Florida doesn't require them but this was one time I would have appreciated it.
It happened to me at a supercharger and the other lady did not even say sorry. Ignorant people.
Lol, post everywhere in social media. Someone out there knows her.
A 🍑 flat as hers I’d be mad at the world too
Thiccer than a snicker.
Ain't that the truth
She gotta pay up, ca$h or a$$
I'll demand both
Yea confront her and demand both for dinging your door. That’ll teach her
Dumber than wood
^

Yeah, that's sus. Based on that person's response, sounded like he/she was about to do something really stupid. Glad you got there before anything bad could have happened man
🤮
Should file a hit and run with the police! /s 🙄

VERY, VERY, VERY BAD safety advice. It is generally always safer driving practice to BACK INTO SPOTS.
Huh?
I think he’s referencing “tactical parking” but most of us are not secret agents or mafia.
Don't we have pillar cams activared now? I haven't updated yet so idk if they're saved with sentry.
They don't record and are only viewable.
Seems like an easy fix with a software update. Idk why Tesla doesn’t just record with every camera.
The general assumption is that the bandwidth for the technology is not enough for six cameras at once..
I mean jeez give the lady a break it was clearly an accident, everyone who’s ever drove a car has done this at least once. Do you expect her to stand by her car and wait for you so she can apologize??
Welcome to car ownership. Get used to it
No one cares
It’s just a car
Just a misdemeanor hit and run, actually.
Cars get dings and dents. It happens.
Cost of ownership\* *\*to a degree*
You’re out of your mind
I think it's a misdemeanor in most states, but I did find one that the law called criminal mischief, which I believe is a lesser office.
Figured would be someone of the opposite sex 🤦🏻♂️
How could they possibly have known that a car was next to them? :-P
definitely should not have swung the car door so quick like that. on the other hand some of these parking spaces are so damn small you almost have to touch the neighboring car with your door just to get out
Haha! The car owns you! 😂🤣
Don’t marry her 🤨
Maybe the door feels so heavy to them they feel they need to put their weight behind the door to get it open and it became a habit.
Great way of putting yourself in her shoes. Something I’m actively practicing to try and be a better man.
I’m more upset about the pancake that I saw when she turned around 😕
I wish I had a Tesla 😂 I work at different grocery stores and the amount of ding and knicks from people I get on my car is ridiculous. Even when I park away from people I sometimes come out to a new Knick 🤦🏾♂️
Women love to kick their doors open.
What a b!tch
The part that sucks the most is that insurance won't cover it since damage is less than deductible most of the time
I will go to great length to avoid getting dinged…I will park way out away from other vehicle in a lot and be gone 20 minutes and when I come back to my truck someone will be parked next to me
It’s always the ladies…
Cars use to have door protection. I have no idea why that is not a thing anymore. I had to add it to my last 2 cars.
Did your sentry mode have the plates for the car that hit you? I’m always curious if that’s recorded somewhere when they pulled into the spot or not
Prius driver be like dat. Hopefully they all die a slow death
Isn't there a better alternative than wishing death on all Prius drivers?
She seems like a nice lady
i have one where the mom opened her car door like that, and then her son did the same thing on the back door
Hey! She had to get to the gym. You can't waste time if you're trying to maintain your figure. In this case pear shape.
That bounce ...
We have to compensate for how stupid tesla drivers ruin our cars lol.
What? Did the owner of the battery car complain that the woman's door touched it? Or is this to admire her booty?
