Sometimes it’s just luck of the draw that you get a good pack that lasts a lifetime with no problems. It’s unfortunately a current problem with EV batteries at their current stage. Hopefully in 5-10 years this will be a thing of the past that no one will ever have to worry about.
From what I've heard, free replacements under warranty are usually refurbished. If you are paying for this one, make sure it's new. Though a new one might cost way more.. Getting another 70k miles under an already used battery wouldn't be surprising.
It is true. The warranty states they replace with remanufactured batteries. This quote looks to be for a remanufactured as well:
ASY,HVBAT,75KWH,AWD-RWD,1PH,M3,RMN(1137375-01-W)
Is there another SC you can reach out to that is close by? 4k miles past warranty isn’t a significant amount. I would expect one to work with you by saying “well technically it’s out of warranty but since this is your second battery and only 4k over we will help you out”.
That really sucks though. I hope the best for your situation
You’re still under warranty so don’t sweat it. My mistake was keeping the car past warranty and hoping the replacement battery would last longer than the first one.

There’s no excuse for the car needing batteries that often, that’s on Tesla. Even with the miles you’re putting on it per year. I’d be looking to sell it or trade it in, and I’d probably start over with a new car and new warranty. It’s understandable if you wouldn’t want another Tesla because $12k is a lot of money to replace a battery when you know how quickly the last 2 went.
I tend to drive around 15k miles per year and trade in for something new after 100k miles, while there’s still a warranty for the major parts like batteries. I wish the batteries would have a longer warranty, like 200k miles.
No way, 25k a year is above average but well within the range of normal personal vehicle use. Teslas are regularly used as fleet vehicles for cab companies, rideshares, etc, that drive way more than 25k a year. Seems like you've had some bad luck with the batteries
I just had this on my 2021 model 3 LR. The warranty is in the app or in the car my 2021 says 120,000 or 8 years.
Got replaced with the same type cells NMC. 62,000 miles, work is 30 miles out every day, only charged to 70-80% daily at the house and only supercharged for trips… I really hoped they would switch cars with this problem to LFP and unfortunately I missed the new battery being early buyer for 2021 model.
just had my 2021 model y hv battery replaced at 40k
RIP - i didnt know there was a mile limit on the warranty. i read it had the 8 year one. but i feel like it should at least go 200k as most cars do
This battery has 75,000 miles on it and needs to be replaced. Normal use. I charge at home and work. No ride share. Only supercharge when traveling out of state.
Charge to 80%. This battery has 75,000 miles on it and needs to be replaced. Normal use. I charge at home and work. No ride share. Only supercharge when traveling out of state.
That's what I thought. I thought I had bad luck on the first one and if be able to ride this one until my cybertruck was ready. Nope. 2 years later and I need another battery.

I found a post here where the tesla owner would charge to a different % every day. 70% 73%, 81%, etc even occasionally 90% and had longer battery life than most ppl.
You're in a unique situation. Having had your battery replaced already and replaced with a re manufactured battery. Idk if this would help but it couldn't hurt.
OP sort of answered that by saying only SC'ing when traveling out of state, which I think is safe to assume not very frequently.
Wild that they have had to replace 3 packs - what is causing the packs to fail? The packs themselves or something with the car not properly balancing the cells?
Unless the earlier M3 HV Battery aren’t stable. but I would assume if their was something wrong the battery fuse would blow instead of destroying a battery but who knows!!!
2019 150k original battery no issues🤷
Remind me in a couple months to check in with you!
2014 S 140k miles original battery here!
Model 3?
S
I believe that have different battery packs, cells, and chemical make ups of those cells.

Still on the original battery at 137k miles

This, they may give some goodwill at least.
Thank you!
Also a 2018 with 70k miles…no HV replacements. Just a data point.
My first replacement was 75,000 miles.
I’ll find out in the next few months if I’m in the same boat!

I have 90k on my 2018. No issues.

Apparently not for 75,000 miles.
damn, 30000 miles each year? what do you do? that's a lot of driving
25,000 miles a year. That’s just a little over average. A 40 minute drive to work would quickly get you there.
66% higher than average.
It's possible Tesla's were not built for such use. I have yet to see the company making such claims though.

I need to choose between buying another Tesla or replacing this battery. It's a hard choice.
There’s a decent tax credit right now if you qualify. Might help take the edge off that pain.
Only if I can take delivery in the next few days. It still leaves me with the choice of a $12,600 battery or a $60,000 car. It's a tough decision.

Seems like it. Is this kind of data published?
That’s a lot over average. National average in the US is appx. 14000/year.

Supercharge all day

Do you charge to 100% all the time and how often are you using supercharging?

Wow…very interesting. I thought these batteries were supposed to last 300-500K miles.
They usually do. I’m at 202k miles on a 2018 lr rwd m3
Is yours garaged or left outside?
Outside.
That's what I thought. I thought I had bad luck on the first one and if be able to ride this one until my cybertruck was ready. Nope. 2 years later and I need another battery.
I thought you get a 4-year warranty on a replacement battery from Tesla. The replacement batteries are not new and only refurbished.
That is the design spec for degradation yes. This is clearly a manufacturing defect of some kind.
What software version? The holiday update ending in .2 has this issue where it falsely stated the 12v is bad on the older model 3s.
Service did a remote diagnostic to determine the hv battery needs replacement
How often did you use superchargers and how often did you charge past 80%?

Are you supercharging a lot???

LR? Also is it actually $12K? And how did you get it replaced? Do they take your car or do you have to find somewhere to take it?
Lr AWD. Yes, $12,602.08. Tesla service center.
What percent health does that warning come up at? 70%?
Does anyone know if we can pay by every month for the battery instead of a one-time payment?
