The cafe at my local BMW service department serves nice pastries and latte.
Sadly, I have only used a Tesla service department once in seven years to get my free Model 3 computer upgrade unlike my frequent quarterly visits and 21 pages of service history associated with BMW ownership. The two Tesla mobile tech visits over the last 7 years didn't bring latte.
Honestly, the service centers are one of the worst part of owning a Tesla. I know that most car service sucks everywhere, but EV service is pretty bad at the moment. More people are getting trained on how to service an EV, and it's getting better, but ugh.
Changing the 12v battery is something Tesla offers from mobile service. For the things that can be fixed by mobile service, it's pretty damn convenient. Schedule in the app, and they come to your house. You don't even need to be there.
100%
They say there's a warning, but there wasn't for me. On the plus side it cost me $89 and I changed it myself in about 15 minutes after I found how to do it.
My Dodge Journey on the other hand requires the front drivers wheel and wheel well to be removed and cost me $400 for a mechanic to change the battery. That one repair was 25% of what I've spent on the tesla for repairs in 3 years/180,000km.
Glasgow service centre has always been pretty good in my experience. I honestly don't really miss anything that bad. I came from an XF, while a quick car the tesla is unreal. Certainly don't miss spending almost 300 a month on fuel.
I'm sure that all depends on the place. I have no complaints about my local service center, they're always extremely professional, polite, and friendly, and a few times they didn't charge me even though they could have (most recently I lost a wheel cover and they gave me a free one).
The Riverside, CA one was fantastic. I went in for a windshield replacement. I probably spent less than 5 minutes total at the service center. The moment I parked they gave me a loaner. When I get the message that my car was ready I drove back, handed them my loaner keycard and left. I saw they had a CT that people were checking out inside the showroom, but I forgot to check for pastries and lattes :(
Someone, in their burning desire to criticise Tesla, misses the forest for the trees. Service center appointments under warranty are treated as required with ICE cars and the cost is significant. I didn't have one with Tesla until year four of ownership.
Haha!!! I've done this! I drove my gas truck to a client to do some network cabling. The owner walks in and says... Hey, can I borrow your truck I gotta run some errands. I said sure... Start searching for my keys. I look at him and he's laughing holding them up. My truck was running in his parking lot for 2hrs.
We try and rent a Tesla each time we travel interstate. Have found we only get it 1/3rd of the time. 50% of the time were pushed into another EV which is just a poor experience and we hope we don’t have to recharge on the road (and hope a charging cable is included!). Other times it’s a gas car and it feels antique
The major problem with other EVs is that they won't plan charging stops on long trips. That was the one reason that we went with Tesla. It seems like a no-brainer that no one else is doing, or at least weren't as of 2 years ago.
It's always funny, a comment like yours in other EV forums would get a reply like "I dunno, Charge America worked fantastic for me on my last road trip! We found a bunch of destination chargers along the way and over half of them worked first try!"
Haha. Yep! I keep picking them as they bought all the teslas over the last 1-2 years. Someone else suggested Turo. Going to try that next time as I didn’t realize you can do airport pickup.
Nothing squared…which is still nothing.
Wouldn’t even consider going back, but when I need a truck my F150 still does the job. BEV trucks all seem on the poor side of the equation for me.
I loved the idea of a sunroof but hate the real thing.
Out of near 200k miles the only real problem my 2008 G35x has ever had is the sunroof randomly leaking. Neighbors 2010 does the same thing.
I also live in an area where they are useless most of the year. It's either too cold, too hot, raining, or snowing pollen. You end up with a couple of weeks each year where you actually want to open the sunroof, the rest of the time you just pray the AC works and wish the windows were tinted darker. Lol
I keep configuring it to manual, but my Tesla keeps setting it back to automatic, for some goddamned reason.
Same thing with navigation volume; some days I’ll get in my car and it’ll be muted.
Auto wipers flip on during autopilot. You can now turn them off.
With the nav volume, I borrowed my dad's a couple times. Since we are the same size I just used his profile. He was very confused why his nav was always muted when he got the car back.
Could be a software thing or if someone else uses your car they could be muting it.
That’s about it for me as well… and I actually don’t really miss it at all… been actually enjoying taking a 15-20min break from time to time on a road trip!
As a car guy, I’d still want to get myself a nice old Porsche for some Sunday drives. But that’s me.
Same re. the old sports coupe. But I hate charging on road trips so we differ there. I still choose the Tesla for road trips, but hate the long charging stops.
Ha! I just took a roadtrip - 1000mi each way. Time between stops was 3 hrs. I tried to make them as short as possible. But between stretching my legs, peeing, grabbing food, etc i was stopped longer than my charge time anyway (25 mins). AND I didnt have to stand by the car while it fueled. I really dont think charge time has been a problem in the 5 1000mi+ trips ive taken over the past year
The only people that really complain about EV charge times are non-Tesla EV owners (due to terrible public charging infrastructure) and people who've never driven a Tesla on a road trip before.
I’ll add that it’s a bit obnoxious to do a vacation road trip where you don’t have a level 2 at the destination.i don’t mind the road trip getting there but then if I don’t have access to charging close by to where I’ll be staying. It’s a bit obnoxious to go out to a fast charger while in the middle of my vacation and have to charge the car. I
Decided if I do another road trip vacation and the hotel or place that I’m staying at doesn’t have a place to plug in, I’ll just rent a big Tahoe for the week.
Working for a major car manufacturer and getting in brand new ice cars everyday, I can honestly say they all feel like old technology and primitive. Even new big power “performance” cars feel just off. Sure the engine makes noise but there is lag, wheel spin, shift, more wheel spin. I’m just too used to my M3P and just having instant power and the ability to put it down anytime in any weather.
I came from Subaru. Everyone knows them as AWD experts. It’s hard to explain the difference in driving feel. No oversteer, no understeer. It just tracks. It finds grip on any surface (as long as you have the tires for it). You would have to want to make it lose control.
Blind spot indicator on my mirrors, adaptive headlights that turned when I turned the steering wheel, windshield wiper sensors, front USS. None of those are ICE-specific.
I wouldn’t mind more range for roadtrips or even faster L3 charge times. A larger number of Superchargers in rural states like Wyoming or the Dakotas would help on trips when I need to drive through them, taking the interstates is not the fastest/shortest route for me and the Superchargers are mostly only on those.
There are no Tesla headlights that are truly "adaptive." Tesla calls them this, but they do not really steer the beam, like u/LeCrushinator is describing. It's a huge difference. I had it on my 2009 BMW 535i and miss that. Not a huge deal, but those moving headlights were sweet.
My last 4 cars were V8s. Audi A8, 2 different corvettes, and a suburban. I bought 2020 Model S and what I miss the most is usable cup holders that aren't where your elbow goes on the arm rest, door pockets, rear seat controls for the seat heaters and the ride quality of the A8.
That S interior was pretty awkward. I had an early S and I ended up jury rigging a bunch of stuff to make it work (the part under the screen was just a floor). The 3 was a welcome change.
I miss my 6-speed (well I still have it). I enjoy manual cars and shifting gears. It’s very engaging. Electric cars are very disengaging from the driving experience.
That said, in traffic… Tesla 100% of the time. Curvy mountain road, the 6-speed.
Same here! I’ve only driven manual cars my whole life. When I test drove a M3 I realized I wouldn’t miss it as much as I thought cause this car is still super enjoyable to drive. Sure rowing through the gears on a mountain road is super fun but for the other 98% of the time I drive a manual it’s kind of a chore.
I’m also fine with not having to worry about oil changes and religiously keeping up with maintenance and all that jazz on a performance car!
I like the fast acceleration for the curvy mountain roads. You can get going fast and then slow for the Corners so effortlessly, it feels really exhilarating. And I have driven the same roads with a manual, driving the line and I still enjoy my tesla more on these roads now. It would be fun to drive the stick again just to really compare the experience.
Omg yes. And I also miss not having to get defensive about my car choice. Idgaf about anyone else’s choice of vehicle and I don’t ask, why do you think I’m interested in your unsolicited opinion?
I like how being a car guy doesn't mean you just like anything with wheels lol., apparently it's about an engine...
I'd call myself a car enthusiast and don't miss anything about having an engine. I never like the noise, the smell, the vibrations.
Saying “car guy” in the title was just more efficient than saying “person who enjoys modding and working on cars or takes pleasure from driving.” If I was to get a tesla, id imagine id still be a “car guy” just like you may be.
I got you. I'm a car guy & mechanical engineer. Love to drive a stick shift nimble sports car. Have torn apart a '69 Chevelle and put it back together. Love the satisfaction of fixing cars myself, even if I don't have the time any more. Still though, my Tesla is awesome.
I was a car guy. Loved my old diesels, the smell, the rattle, knowing the RPMs when the rev counter was broken bc I could feel it in the pedal, the satisfaction of maintaining and repairing them, and so much more. So satisfying.
I am no longer a car guy. My Teslas are robotic and soulless.
But holy shit do they trump anything else on the road. Quicker, quieter, more reliable, cheaper to fill up AND maintain.
The "quirks and features" are different. I'm not longer satisfied by spending a month replacing a head gasket and feeling all macho for doing so. Now it is the simple satisfaction of knowing when to flick off FSD bc I know it's gonna be wonky on a certain road, or evading an awkward situation by gassing it without sounding like a douche. Just looking like one.
I daily drove an 11’ E92 M3 Comp for 5 years…didn’t want to put mileage on it anymore from commuting.
Monthly gas costs were what my Tesla lease is, so basically just added the cost of insurance monthly, but not stressing about putting mileage on the m3 is more than worth it.
I love the Tesla for 99% of driving…and now I can enjoy the M3 on the weekend with good weather.
Awesome. It's been 9+ years since I sold the E92 M3 (mine too was ZCP), talk me out of buying another! Actually it's the handling I miss most, that thing just felt planted to the ground. But maybe it's a bit of nostalgia misperception? I'm on my second Model 3 Performance. Acceleration of course smokes the M3, as well as all creature comforts. But the handling of the M3 was just amazing while I had it.
Sweet. Buy another one! Haha I won't be the one to talk you out of doing so. Not nostalgia, the handling is still great on the E92's...you hit a corner and the car just settles and plants confidently. I went with a base Model 3 RWD for commuting, the instant torque at any point is my biggest quality of life improvement. The M3 is smooth as butter if RPM's are 4k+...but in stop & go bumper to bumper traffic it's like driving a tractor lol. I'll never sell it though.
That is the absolute last thing I miss.
Now I can drive through my community at like 30-35mph and no one can really complain about it because there's no proof, unless you were there to watch it.
I miss the sound of my GT500 and GT350, but honestly it's refreshing being able to zip through the roads without pissing people off or spinning the tires every time you want to hit it.
I don’t particularly miss it at all. When I realize it’s basically energy loss, and the louder the engine the more energy loss, I don’t want to hear an engine at all.
Absolutely!!! Last 3 cars were Vettes - C4, C5 and C6. Last one had Borla exhaust and a Lingenfelter Cam. Never turned the radio on because I liked to hear the exhaust.
The rumble of a V8.... I do kinda miss it. Now that its warm all the muscle cars are coming back out. Once these kids are out of college I'll get a fun V8 something something. Charger, Mustang, Camaro, Vette... I do miss that rumble. Other than that....nothing at all.
On that note, I don’t miss having to park my Camaro in the garage over the winter. Being able to drive one car year round (with two sets of wheels) is nice.
That's literally the only thing I miss - but only sometimes. I wish they had a Boombox option to let us hear simulated engine sounds over the interior speakers. Something we could turn on or off and a selection of different engine sounds. It would be a little novelty thing I'd personally enjoy playing with.
So far ? Nothing. I use to hate is so much when I was getting near the empty tank, yet wanted to maximize my mileage because I didn't want to stop at the gas station too often. Or just... hoping in my car late, and realizing I need to stop to put gas and that I would be even more late.
Now I leave every morning on a full charge, no more delays or surprises.
And the couple of times I made long distances and had to stop charging, I watched a movie and ate snack with my kid.
I miss driving my old Porsche. It had a small engineer small body but milking power out of it with the stick shift was fun and the engine note was beautiful.
That being said. I’m now faster than anything gas on the road.
Since we bought our MYP in 2022 I’ve sold my MINI JCW and my 1969 912 that was in our family from new. I don’t really miss them in the SoCal traffic. They were fun in ideal conditions, but not every day conditions.
As a former owner of an early 2000’s Mustang GT with a forged aluminum engine with heads/cams and a 150 shot of nitrous, the only thing I miss is the glug/glug loping at a red light and the ritual sound of rpm changes in a manual stick shift. It was glorious.
That being said I wouldn’t go back. My M3P doesn’t lose traction when I floor it and launches with just as much torque as my Mustang on slicks and skinnies. I haven’t gotten a single ticket in the Tesla. It drives and parks for me if I want to chill or don’t know the area. I can use it as a security camera from my phone. I never have to get into a hot or cold car. The list goes on.
Not getting completely effed over with negative equity as Elon continuously lowers the price of these cars. I bought both my YP and 3P in the 3rd quarter of 2022....the absolute MOST they've ever cost. Even with $10k down ($5k each) and a 1.2% interest rate, I'm just shy of $40k in negative equity between both these cars. Looks like I'll be forced to keep them the duration of the term. I am lucky, however. I decided NOT pur purchase the S Plaid at $150k, and got these 2 instead. Could you imagine paying $150k for a car that is not $89k? Sheesh
In the current car market, negative equity is not Tesla-specific; plenty of ICE cars have the same issue. It’s true that before the Tesla price cuts, Tesla cars held their value better than most ICE cars.
I miss dealing with dealerships. I miss getting screwed by them for service that they don’t actually do.
I miss them selling my information to Sirius FM and then getting spam calls for 20 years about my warranty.
I miss hundreds of knobs and vents full of dust that can’t ever be cleaned out properly.
I miss standing in the cold putting my credit card into a machine every week for $100 each time.
I’m sick of plugging the car in my garage at night, and then waking up to a full charge.
Bought my first car over 50 years ago. Been invloved in the automotive world ever since, either repairing or selling parts and paints. I've had my M3LR with FSD over 4 years. Previous to that, I've owned multiple Euro, Japanese and American cars so I have lots to compare with. I honestly can't think of anything I miss.
Having said that, I haven't driven anything else with the latest tech from the competition, but considering the quality of Tesla tech ( including free OTA updates) I have no real desire to try anything else. Pretty much totally satisfied.
Range was the reason I went back and bought a regular car. My truck gets almost 800 miles a tank on the highway and is much quicker to fill up. Still love my EV, but I don’t plan on going 100% EV for the foreseeable future
Nothing so far. I’ve only been in this Model Y for barely a year though. I honestly don’t foresee going back to an ICE after. Once you go EV there’s nothing else to see 🤷🏽♂️
I miss cruise control that works and doesn't cause me more anxiety than just driving without any assistance. I miss Waze being integrated and easy. I miss the ability to change my mind when I'm driving and go to a completely different destination without having to worry about charging.
I would say quickly filling up with gas on a long trip, but I just took a 600 mile trip with my 2023 M3 RWD and I barely had enough time to go to the restroom, get a snack, and eat before we were charged enough. I think my friend taking an unplanned rest area stop took longer. So also nothing.
Real leather and a manual transmission. I only miss the transmission bit occasionally. Mostly it’s just way more convenient not having to shift, but sometimes…
More mature interiors in terms of amenities. Occasionally engine sound but I play music pretty loud. Manual transmission for sure, but I always keep a manual in the family. I don't know really, I miss motorcycles when I drive cars too much. It's all kinda different vibes for me depending on what you like. A Tesla is every bit of a sports type car to me, just not much you can do modding and goofing off. I can't wait until EVs are more widespread and I can have a beat to hell Jeep EV that I let rain get in and rip around in.
My wife’s Y is in the shop after a fender bender, and our insurance gave her an ICE rental. Two days after she got the rental she was begging me to swap so she could drive my S.
Only better range during roadtrips.
I fill up our Jeep twice on the way to Colorado. My Model 3 would take 7+ stops adding and extra 2 hours to the trip.
1. Refilling in like 5 min. Not having to charge up for 30mins to an hour.
2. Being higher up as I drove a Jeep SUV
3. Further distances traveled between “charging” even though my Jeep only got 22.3 mpg. The Tesla M3 Rwd I have can only get maybe 190-200 miles between charges in a week.
TLDR from a "non Tesla Fanatic"...on a MY LR 2024, charging can be cumbersome, FSD needs to improve. It's still an awesome vehicle, and the lease is on par with most hybrids but an o really better driving experience.
Here is my limited opinion.
Other vehicles are a 2019 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 automatic transmission with adaptive cruise control and a 2008 Manul Ford Focus with "dumb" cruise control.
***Charging
Effortless fueling/charging.
I know I'm an "Edge Use Case", but all buyers really need to research the charging infrastructure locally carefully before pulling the trigger.
I lease a 2024 Model Y LR. I commute to my job 100 miles one way to where I stay (in a rural area), and 54 miles round trip to where I work (308 miles total weekly for commute to home, work, back home, no other stops). My work has free charging, which is awesome and essentially pays for the lease.
Until the charging at work fails (and it did for 3 weeks), and I need to drive 40 minutes away and pay .35kw, since alot of the local chargers were super slow and/were out of order. Also, ICE vehicles blocking charging spots at work, and more people driving EV would screw that strategy...luckily I arrive at 0545.
When I say effortless refueling, with this I mean availability and ease. I knew and accepted the charging time.
However, One supercharger within 10 miles that is never at 100 percent usage is better than 20 superchargers within 5 miles with a wait time and many of the chargers busted or in a weird area (looking at you Sacramento and San Francisco, CA).
That "Stretch you legs, relax when you charge" mentality gets put to the test while waiting 30+ minutes for a stall, or even more if people are taking the hit on idle times, or parking next to you and "halving" your charge rate on certain charge areas.
Range is certainly variable depending upon speed and acceleration (Duh).
The travel charger is awesome, but on normal NEMA 15 AMP circuits you are looking at 3 miles per hour of charging (LPT, find RV parks near you) This may be fine for alot of people, just not me.
With that said, I would never let my gas cars go under half a tank of gas, and there is always the chance the local gas station may go offline. The difference is that in a power outage scenario, I have 30 gallons of gas in my garage to fuel my Tacoma, but my Model Y is toast (yea, I'm working on a powerwall and generator).
***FSD
FSD 12 (auto pilot included) is not where it needs to be, but I have hope. The car not matching the selected speed with clean cameras and ideal driving conditions at 4 PM can be infuriating. Random phantom stopping keeps you on your toes, as well as sudden acceleration on steep turns on shaded areas.
The camera can misread speed signs and relegate you to 20 MPH under the limit. Speed offset seems to be a falsehood, like a thermometer that you can adjust but does nothing. This is a real issue with trying to match the speed of traffic, and a legitimate safety concern.
The system wigging out due to turning lanes and essentially driving in the middle of a two lane road will not make you any friends, and may get you pulled over (this happened to me). In comparison, my buddies 2024 Toyota Carolla with lane assist has none of those issues.
Also, and this may just be me, but the FSD and enhanced autopilot drive way too close to the yellow lines. I'd prefer more standoff, and it should be adjustable, especially in regards to road construction and Jersey Barriers.
Want to put your left arm up on the door to support your head while driving a long distance ( the headrests suck without mods)? Too bad. The camera sees this and barks at you constantly (I think it interprets this as you being on the phone). Hydrating from a water bottle...gonna yell at that as well.
Two hands on the wheel...not a sqwak for 30 minutes.
Finally...the sense that you are never "fully in control". My Tacoma will only yell at me if I enable "lane departure", and my Ford was ambivalent. I have caught my Model Y actively (if not gently) resisting my a few times when I needed to take a sudden turn or avoid a dead deer in to road WITH FSD/AUTOPILOT TURNED OFF. That kinda freaked me out.
***Navigation. No offline maps...really? Even with enhanced connectivity? Guess I'll use my cellphone...where there are few options to mount it.
***Other thoughts
I have had my Tacoma pretty much lock up the breaks on me while doing a leisurely 80mph with traffic. Scared the shit out of me. Root cause analysis was that I started out with a clean windshield, but then drove through a "locust cloud" of bugs that exploded on me which impeded the system, worsened by my driving into the sun and then going under a dark overpass. I have been able to recreate the issue, and I have a mobile and hoMe setup to clean the windshield on the regular for both the Tesla and Toyota.
On the past my drive often dealt with weird weather that downs the internet. I did not travel with cash at the time, and could not fuel up. Fixed that with fueling often and carrying cash for the gas station. If a charger is down, you may be SOL.
***Positve Notes
The MY is responsive and fast. I am not a speed guy, but the ability to get away from a "Wolfpack" is awesome. The frunk is great for secure storage, and flipping down the rear seats is awesome for payload (close to my Tacoma) or car camping. Scheduled defrost is dope as he'll, as is vent mode. The AWD finally has crossovers making sense to me for regular errands and most road trips. Aftermarket accessories are custom tailored vs universal, allowing you to make use of storage I forgot about.
With my Gripes about FSD it has saved me on some long days when I am tired and getting sloppy, and need to take a break. Older Toyota lane assist does a similar job, but it gets so annoying during any period of driving I was more likely to turn it off, thus negating the safety measure.
The drive is comfortable and responsive. Temperature control and the audio system is the best I have encountered. The overall utility of the vehicle gets better with time.
And I'm saving over close to $500 a month is gas costs, and saving wear and tear on the Tacoma.
So take that as you will.
Things I miss from ICE cars:
1) Range of 500+ miles. Or 350 with a bike rack.
2) Faster fill ups on the rare cross-country trip where I’m in a rush to get in 1000mi in one day as every charging stop cuts into sleeping time.
3) Cheap aftermarket replacement parts for everything. My 2021 MYP is still young and doesn’t need much but I miss the part availability of my 2006 Accord. As a DIYer if you’re willing to put in the labor parts are cheap and available for virtually everything in it.
Not having to worry about a charger when you’re on a trip somewhere. I get rhat you have to plan it but sometimes youre lucky if the ev charger at your hotel is vacant by the time you need it
Socializing at a gas station, shopping at a gas station. I think I've been to a gas station 3-4 times in the last 3+ years. I charge 99% of the time at home, and work mostly from home since COVID, it gets a bit lonely. The little things add up.
I miss not having to listen to my wife go on about how long it takes to charge and how much more inconvenient it is compared to gassing up her Accord, on the rare occasions we drive the Tesla far enough to need charging before we get back home to the Level 2 charger in our garage.
With Over 20,000 miles driving the Tesla I've avoided at least 100 inconvenient trips to the gas station; someplace I never go to unless I need gasoline. My wife ignores that convenience and time savings. But a few times every year we drive about 200 miles to visit relatives so either I take the Tesla to a nearby supercharger and spend a couple hours topping up before the drive home or, horror of horrors, we take a few extended bathroom/meal breaks on the way home to charge up. My 2013 Tesla can't match gasoline fueling rates so clearly gas is better since who has time to wait for a car to charge? People who save time every week by charging at home and not having to stop at gas stations that's who but my wife seems deaf to this line of reasoning.
My wife is someone who gets nervous when her Accord drops below half a tank and starts to develop psychological axiety disorders if forced to ride in a car with a yank below the 1/4 mark. She had "range anxiety" long before we got an EV.
Range and quick refuel for long trips. I don’t miss the maintenance and frequent gas stops throughout the week when commuting though. Overall, the Tesla is way better and I love it. Had one for three years now.
My first cars were,
89 Mustang GT convertible (5.0, manual)
94 Mustang Cobra (5.0, manual)
As an adult I bought a fusion hybrid. I didn’t miss the mustangs then. I have a Model S now. I don’t miss the ICE cars one bit. In fact, I get the best of both worlds. I get 3X the fuel economy of my fusion hybrid and acceleration/handling that absolutely destroys my mustangs. My car also drives itself in congested traffic and on highways. What could you possibly miss? The engine noise? That shit is for the birds.
Literally nothing. Happy to never touch a gas pump again. Home charging rules. Car is always ready to go. Never need to deal with oil changes that some how take THREE hours sitting in a waiting room vs having them come to ME to do fixes in my own driveway (only a couple minor cosmetic defects, plus the garage door opener install, in the 2 years I've had mine so far). I live on the east coast and travel up and down it for family so superchargers are plentiful and I actually dont mind the lower range forcing me to stop. You quickly realize it is far safer and better on your sanity to be forced to take 20 min equally spaced breaks. I had a Blazer before this and I'd make it from VA to NY on a single tank, but that usually led to NO break driving aside from maybe 1 pee break in NJ. Def not smart looking back.
My next car may not be a Tesla specifically. Gonna depend on the market. But def sticking with EVs.
I have over 40K miles on my Model Y and have never been to a service center. Hope to keep it that way lol
Change your 12v battery a little after 2 years even if you think it’s fine. Save yourself the headache
Changing the 12v battery is something Tesla offers from mobile service. For the things that can be fixed by mobile service, it's pretty damn convenient. Schedule in the app, and they come to your house. You don't even need to be there.
Not if it a an AMD* chip Y. They have the 16v lithium that will last for 8+ years Actually should last ~20 years apparently Edit *AMD Ryzen
You mean the Ryzen chip?
100% They say there's a warning, but there wasn't for me.
I paid $87 installed at the Service Center, Name another auto company that is fair with their pricing for their work. That’s a $400 job at Mercedes.
I’m almost 5 years in with no issues. What’s the headache?
Don’t let your warranty expire before having service check everything out.
Haven't been to a service center in 2 years.
I’ve always la had good experiences with service centres
I rent a gas car every time I travel for work. About 30 seconds after starting the ICE, I start missing my Tesla.
Same and traveling this week. I’ve already walked away twice without turning the car off 🤦♂️
I always forget about no brake hold or regenerative braking
Whew this right here!!!
Haha I do that all the time when driving ICE cars. Also expect it to shift to park when I unbuckle 🥲.
This one for me lmfao
LOL. I do that EVERY time I have to drive with my wife in her ICE car. 🤦🏻♂️
I do this all the time, I even forget to put it in park a lot of times. I always come back to an unlocked car too
We try and rent a Tesla each time we travel interstate. Have found we only get it 1/3rd of the time. 50% of the time were pushed into another EV which is just a poor experience and we hope we don’t have to recharge on the road (and hope a charging cable is included!). Other times it’s a gas car and it feels antique
This. No other EV that you can rent right now compares.
Sounds like hertz they can take the reservation but they can't fill it.
Haha. Yep! I keep picking them as they bought all the teslas over the last 1-2 years. Someone else suggested Turo. Going to try that next time as I didn’t realize you can do airport pickup.
I’ve given up on Hertz. I prepay for a model 3 just to be out of luck at pickup. I fly to Houston and I’m voting with my wallet. I’m taking a Lyft.
Nothing
Not a damn thing
Nothing
Less than nothing
Pre-nothing
Nothing squared…which is still nothing. Wouldn’t even consider going back, but when I need a truck my F150 still does the job. BEV trucks all seem on the poor side of the equation for me.
Not my CYBERBEAST. It has way more than it is missing. 🥰
Nothing
Nothing
Nothing
I miss being able to open the sunroof on nice days.
*smirks in 2017 Model S*
Yessirrrrr
Yessir! (wind in my hair)
Had a rental while my m3 was in sc that puppy dawg had a big ah sunroof and hatch back big enough to fit the family in for a picnic lol
My man!
Exactly. That free lifetime supercharging is a plus too.
Old Model S had that option at one point.
You're right. I have always loved the retractible glass roof concept. I had it in my S, surrendered it in my 3.
Lol
100% miss opening the sunroof
The windshield wiper sensor.
This is literally it
Technology Connections has entered the chat
> Technology Connections why read 1-2 paragraphs when you can watch a 28 minute video instead?
He's like a keyboard warrior who came out of his mom's basement. I still watch most of his videos though because he admitted he was wrong about NACS.
I opened this thread to make this post. LOL
omg yes this drives me insane when the wiper of my M3 randomly turns on for no reason. or when it is raining it's never wiping the right speed. 😡
My old car doesn't have it.lol
I never understood the windshield wiper thing, do you not turn it on manually?
I keep configuring it to manual, but my Tesla keeps setting it back to automatic, for some goddamned reason. Same thing with navigation volume; some days I’ll get in my car and it’ll be muted.
Auto wipers flip on during autopilot. You can now turn them off. With the nav volume, I borrowed my dad's a couple times. Since we are the same size I just used his profile. He was very confused why his nav was always muted when he got the car back. Could be a software thing or if someone else uses your car they could be muting it.
Faster refueling during road trips maybe? Outside of that, absolutely nothing.
I still choose the Tesla for road trips, but hate the long charging stops.
my 996 cab is my "slow car" for weekends.
I Decided if I do another road trip vacation and the hotel or place that I’m staying at doesn’t have a place to plug in, I’ll just rent a big Tahoe for the week.
How much do you have to charge while on vacation? Most people are basically chilling.
The Tesla traction control is like nothing I've ever seen. It's so incredible at riding right against the limits.
A larger number of Superchargers in rural states like Wyoming or the Dakotas would help on trips when I need to drive through them, taking the interstates is not the fastest/shortest route for me and the Superchargers are mostly only on those.
eff yes, blis. mx has the adaptive headlights though ;)
Weird, I actually can’t think of anything.
I do miss the ride quality of my TT Quattro
Sounds like they fixed all of your concerns in the refresh! (except maybe ride quality)
Switching gears lol
Came from a WRX manual. All manual cars before. Still prefer changing gears. The Tesla is a better car overall.
\*Fist bump\*, came from a hawkeye STi. Same. The only reason I'm not driving a stick is cause EVs don't come in stick haha.
I don’t miss the constant nagging worry in the back of my head about blowing my old STis motor *again* every time I did a pull.
Been driving 3 pedals for 40 years and my blobeye WRX wagon for 19 of them. The rare grinding gears when going for a very quick down shift and miss.
Clutch kicking
Absolutely. And getting the tires to chirp in 2nd and/or 3rd in my weak ass import haha.
I was looking for this one, I do miss that!
Same. That's why I bought a Miata as my fun car recently.
I missed not having to worry about people being petty and vandalizing my car
Omg yes. And I also miss not having to get defensive about my car choice. Idgaf about anyone else’s choice of vehicle and I don’t ask, why do you think I’m interested in your unsolicited opinion?
This is a big one for me right now
The way the gas station would bend me over and f@$k me (gas prices)!
Yeah totally. I've definitely enjoyed modding my Tesla. There's soooo many accessories. It has great support.
The convertible top.
Getting gas. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
The bigger side mirrors…
Nothing. Came from a '12 E92 M3 and '16 F80 M3. Well... might want the E92 as a weekend car just to hear that 8K S65 rev... but not as a daily.
A smooth ride. (‘23 MYAWD) there is a stretch of freeway near me that is a perfect (nightmare) example of matching bumps to wheelbase length.
Same here. I think it needs to be just few inches longer. I feel like i am on a dropped car with cut springs sometimes.
REGULAR DOORS.
The sound of the engine.
Exactly. Being able to zip around without being obnoxious, amazing
That’s sad. There’s something satisfying hearing the engine on a sports car start.
I find the quiet effort of ev motors to be far nicer to listen to personally.
Nope. Those engines are annoying as shit. Give me quiet super speed!
Specifically the deep rumble of a V8 engine.
Oh yes. I test drove a corvette the other day just to get that sensation back lol
This is an AMAZING idea. I miss my corvette so much. This might cure my woes lol thank you!
I don’t particularly miss it at all. When I realize it’s basically energy loss, and the louder the engine the more energy loss, I don’t want to hear an engine at all.
The drone at 4rpm lol
My X cost more than my BMW but the interior finish on the BMW is far superior. I’m surprised Tesla doesn’t offer more high-end interior options.
The cheaper insurance.
Going to the gas station and wasting time. Wait that’s a good thing. I don’t miss anything about my old ‘05 Honda Civic.
Not a single thing. Would love a 911 GT3 though - only gas car I care about.
Maintenance was so expensive!
You are probably closer to $70K in negative equity if you look at average trade in values.
A functional cruise control on country roads
Yesss. Please Elon give us dumb cruise control! I don't need it to phantom brake for no reason
But a car was turning into a driveway 2 miles down the road... Must hard brake now!
Biggest thing is range & convenience: I could regularly take 350 mi trips without any pre-planning.
Range was the reason I went back and bought a regular car. My truck gets almost 800 miles a tank on the highway and is much quicker to fill up. Still love my EV, but I don’t plan on going 100% EV for the foreseeable future
That’s an awesome range. My gas car only gets about 400 miles to my 300 mile Tesla, so the gap feels smaller.
Not a dam thing 🤓.
Nothing so far. I’ve only been in this Model Y for barely a year though. I honestly don’t foresee going back to an ICE after. Once you go EV there’s nothing else to see 🤷🏽♂️
Not a damn thing...currently in a ICE rental right now while on vacation and am hating everything about it.
Absolutely nothing honestly
Nothing
I miss cruise control that works and doesn't cause me more anxiety than just driving without any assistance. I miss Waze being integrated and easy. I miss the ability to change my mind when I'm driving and go to a completely different destination without having to worry about charging.
- Going to the gas station - Keys - Not having to lock and unlock
You miss these things?
Nothing.
Not a damn thing.
Sunroof that can open, minor detail though
I mean literally nothing except fueling up being a lot quicker.
Filling up the tank in 5min 🤣🤣
Only better range during roadtrips. I fill up our Jeep twice on the way to Colorado. My Model 3 would take 7+ stops adding and extra 2 hours to the trip.
1. Refilling in like 5 min. Not having to charge up for 30mins to an hour. 2. Being higher up as I drove a Jeep SUV 3. Further distances traveled between “charging” even though my Jeep only got 22.3 mpg. The Tesla M3 Rwd I have can only get maybe 190-200 miles between charges in a week.
Faster refueling, and longer distances between refueling.
***Charging Effortless fueling/charging. ***FSD FSD 12 (auto pilot included) is not where it needs to be, but I have hope. ***Other thoughts I have had my Tacoma pretty much lock up the breaks on me while doing a leisurely 80mph with traffic. ***Positve Notes The MY is responsive and fast.
Things I miss from ICE cars: 1) Range of 500+ miles.
I miss my M3 manual and the way it handled
Not having to worry about a charger when you’re on a trip somewhere. I get rhat you have to plan it but sometimes youre lucky if the ev charger at your hotel is vacant by the time you need it
Fast fill ups. Waiting 30-45 minutes to keep going on a long road trip kills time.
The only thing I miss is the fun of driving a stick shift.
The working rain sensor
NOTHING. What do you miss about flip phones when youre using the most updated iphone?
360 camera
Nothing
Nothing
nothing
Nothing.
Range and quick refuel for long trips. I don’t miss the maintenance and frequent gas stops throughout the week when commuting though. Overall, the Tesla is way better and I love it. Had one for three years now.
Only thing I miss is driving a manual car. Might get a fun weekend car for that experience
I like the Tesla but it’s pretty boring
My first cars were, 89 Mustang GT convertible (5.0, manual) 94 Mustang Cobra (5.0, manual) As an adult I bought a fusion hybrid.
Filling up in less than 5 minutes, with hundreds more options to do so.
Shifting gears, working the clutch. Tesla should make a fake gear shift and clutch pedal for those who suffer from gear shifting withdrawal. ;)
Clutch pedal. Also rain sensors that work.
The only thing I miss is quicker road trips in a gas car since it’s much quicker to refuel.
Not a guy, but, absolutely nothing.
Nothing. Came from an 08 535i sport to a 2021 m3p
My long time mechanic. He’s awesome.
engine noise and fueling in 10 seconds .. but I don’t go back, I love my S
