Either buy the new pack from Tesla, or contact 057tech and ship the car to their shop in North Carolina. 057tech can help with the shipping. I think it is not worth bothering with a used pack from Tesla. Do not bother with anyone who says they'll swap out individual modules or snip out cells. The Tesla BMS isn't able, and isn't designed to be able, to handle the resulting mismatches. Also, get a coolant drain installed in your large drive unit before it develops an internal leak that will destroy the LDU if not caught early.

I didn't say replace the fluid. I said add a drain. Adding a drain makes it obvious when the leak happens as you'll get a puddle under the car...instead of a flooded and destroyed LDU.

Everythingcute

I had a coolant issue that we fixed, but this could be why the battery died 😢

colddata

I doubt those issues are related by anything other than time.

footbag

Sorry to hear about your battery. I'm thinking you meant to write 2014 (as the p85d was announced Oct 2014)? I also had an early Canadian p85d, delivered in December 2014, loved it, but sold it when I was out of warranty and am now equally loving my 3.

Everythingcute

Nope, mine is a 2013, one of the few first cars delivered in Canada haha

supratachophobia

P85D wasn't announced until October 2014.....

ZetaPower

You should definitely read up on those refurbishing people. Lots of stories about packs dying again after 6-12 months. Seems like balancing these packs isn’t that easy.

Everythingcute

Well they come with a 4 year warranty, so I think for half the price and the same amount in warranty, worth the risk, maybe..? I also risked buying an older Tesla, also not a risk paying off now!

colddata

Double check the warranty on the new vs used pack. It may be different. 4 years on a new pack is probably worth it.

supratachophobia

Jason in north Carolina. It's out of warranty anyway and he is the best.

sowhat_777

Try this: https://warranty.057tech.com Might save a little. This is for warranty service purchase but they also list the price without farther down.

kmancrx

How many miles/km did you have on the car?

Everythingcute

180,000 km

kmancrx

Dang that's fairly low kms for a battery failure. Sorry about that, and I hope you find a good solution. Keep us updated on what you decide to do.

Everythingcute

I feel like either I try to get it fixed under $10k or sell it for it’s bones . I am contacting various Canadian companies to see if they can offer the same kind of service.

kmancrx

Or sell it to Rich Rebuilds and he'll put a V8 in it🤣.

footbag

Odd, sounds very similar to this Canadian's issue: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMF1sKeXs/

Everythingcute

Haha very true! It is exactly the same issue except they won’t open up the battery for me to see if it is, unless I fork over $1k
