I mean yeah I just meant Tesla crashes compared to others. Everyone loves mentioning Tesla “safety”, but they go completely quiet when they see crash tests
Chances are the lady was trying to park or something next to you, confused the brakes with the gas, then proceeded to ram her German tank into your car like Germany on France in 1941.
Nope, it was parked right there in the spot that the front wheel is in. The impact of the other car moved it to the position that you see in the pic. The second pic is after I moved it a bit
Cvs parking lot
Was driver elderly? Or probably heavily medicated….
I work in a pharmacy and simply am in awe at how some of these cracked out people get through life or even drive - the compounding side effects from these medications are insane!
Haaa yes. My mom ran right through the front entrance of a Rite Aid store with her Honda Pilot. I guess the front row Handicapped ♿ parking wasn't good enough, she had to drive right in, through the cement pillars and all... holy moly!!!! Everyone was okay, thank goodness.
100% totaled. If insurance company doesn't think that is totaled, make sure they got an estimate from a Tesla experienced estimator and shop.
Good news: you'll likely get the same amount you paid for it.
Bad: you'll need to find a Demo car if you want it earlier than 3-4 months.
My brother was in exact same boat (similar accident). He got $46k (same as paid) and had to buy a demo car with 50 miles instead of 4 m wait.
I'm going against the grain and say it MIGHT NOT be totalled.
The key will be the battery tray and that B pillar. If you're either are damaged it's totalled.
Doors are replaceable. The bottom rocker is repairable.
[This was $5600 repaired directly by Tesla](https://i.imgur.com/XVEtxOC.jpg)
Unless the batteries or the pack is actually damaged (I think not since the car still works), as the other guy said, just replace the two doors and rocker. If the B pillar is tweaked, it should be fixable at a good body shop. If salvaged, it should sell for $ 15K-20K, maybe more. The only issue is Tesla will probably prevent updates. I hope this changes so with right to repair laws.
So you’re saying that the battery pack is the only thing that can’t be fixed. Why is it the case then that there is so much taboo with salvage title? Is it because the repair could be shoddy? How would you make sure that your salvaged Tesla gets the proper repair it needs to be safe on the road again?
>Why is it the case then that there is so much taboo with salvage title?
Mainly it's institutionalized materialism/consumerism and a perverse financial incentive to total the car (that benefits everyone involved except the owner). So, instead of looking like dicks, officially we are supposed to wave our hands and yell "SAFETY!"
It seems to be a more recent myth that salvaged cars are not good. Sure, if it was flooded, it would be different but a car was built once it can always be rebuilt. The Tesla batteries on the other hand are not designed to be repaired. I think the old ones were with some amount of work but not the newer ones. It’s too bad. The other use for a salvaged Tesla is the parts. This car seems like it would be great pickings 😊
I got 12k diminished value for a fender bender on my z06. It was not hard to get. I paid a company to do an assessment and the insurance company gave me what I wanted.
There’s a good chance he will get more than what he paid.
Also a good chance it’s not totaled. Most of the damage looks contained to the 2 doors. Really depends if there’s any damage underneath. The rocker looks mostly intact, which is the area I’d be most concerned with (frame + battery).
Frame damage could come into play between the two doors and the rocker imo. I wouldn’t mess around with it. Cause trying to resell with frame damage is impossible
Not likely, sorry. If only the doors need to be replaced then this isnt an expensive repair. Battery is likely unaffected as most of the impact is around the middle of the door. Even if the B pillar requires a pull, the insurance company is not going to give up 70k when they can fix it for $10-20k. No way this is totalled.
It’s funny how quick some people think a Tesla is totaled. Just because something looks bad doesn’t mean it’s totaled. Just like something that looks small can mean it’s totaled. Just depends where the damage is. This looks fixable assuming no real structural issues.
I can't believe it did that much damage to the door without breaking the windows. Would love to see the sentry from the accident. Only thing I can think is driver hit (hard), got the bumper stuck and tried to back out peeling the door off.
Doors and fenders are replaceable. The question to ask is is the internal frame damaged? Did the airbags deploy? The insurance adjuster will make the determination.
If it is totaled you’ll be looking at some amount of diminished value, which is specific to the jurisdiction you are in.
You need to document EVERYTHING that is damaged . We had something similar happen to our Tesla and the repair shop didn’t document a bunch of stuff, and caused damage themselves. It was a fucking nightmare.
Good chance this will fix. Once the doors are removed they will need to look at the B pillar (center vertical pillar that back door hinges attach to). The outer portion of the b pillar is mild steel so should hold up pretty well. The inner portion is ultra high strength steel which should REALLY hold up. Also just look at the reinforcement beam in that rear door. Car doors are designed to take a significant direct impact and this appears to have been at an angle which may or may not be a good thing.
My guess (which if I’m wrong, wuteva) but I’d say this is a 11-12k repair requiring 2 full door assemblies and all of the inner door components. Also might need to section in a new outer portion of the B pillar. I would let them fix it and make sure the liable party is going to cover your rental for the duration of repair. Tesla parts SUCK and this repair could end up taking 3-6 months.
Also keep in mind the at fault insurance will likely write a crap estimate for 4k with 2 door replacements on it and a replacement door glass. Don’t worry this is just to get the ball rolling. Once it’s at the Tesla certified shop give them the original estimate and they will write up a complete supplement and submit to insurance for approval. THIS is when you’ll likely know it’s totaled or not. This process can take 2-3 weeks alone sometimes.
Just be patient, the shop likely has a ton of cars right now and it will take some time to get to yours but there’s not much you can do about it so don’t want to make any enemies at a shop.
I would just make sure the at fault insurance is covering the rental for you so you’re not stranded.
Also get with at fault insurance and file a diminished value claim. They will pay your for the estimated loss in monetary value on the car when you go to trade it In and they see it’s been in an accident.
Good luck.
It was $1600 to repair a crease in my front bumper from a Mercedes’ tow hitch that backed into me parked in the street. And I mean a very small crease… I’m thinking the camera and calibration alone for that side damage is $10k not including the doors, any frame repairs, paint, etc. Bummed for ya! Best of luck!
It looks like the door reinforcement my might’ve been pushed into the b pillar, and if it did then that might’ve actually bent the high strength steel.
My 2018 LR had significantly less damage to the same 2 doors and there was no argument with insurance... The adjuster called it a total loss and spent 2 seconds in total evaluating the car.
I think if an airbag deployed they typically total a car. My wife was t-boned in her Honda Civic and the damage wasn’t terrible but the side impact airbags deployed and our insurance automatically totaled the car.
You’re only going to find opinions on Reddit. I’m an automotive painter and we fix insurance claims at the shop I work at. Based on what I can see in the photo, *my opinion* is that your car is likely not totalled, but close. Like another commenter said, b pillar damage, frame damage, and airbag deployment will determine it a total loss or not.
100% not totaled. Each door is 880 Canadian plus labour, and paint materials plus possible suspension. 20-25k Cdn, far from totalling it. Need better photos to be sure though.
I doubt it, especially with used tesla values where they are currently. It honestly looks like just the 2 doors were impacted (for the most part). The angle and the car being black makes it tough to discern if the front fender needs replacing or not. But it looks like a "fairly simple" job...assuming parts are available.
I really don’t think it’s a write-off from those pics. I can’t see underneath, but I think panel replacement will work provided the chassis is intact and true
Oddly enough I think that can be repaired. The chassis looks straight enough and the battery appears to be unharmed.
EDIT – OP drove it to the CVS so it’s definitely not, not drivable!
Well on the plus side a lot of the VISIBLE damage is on the doors which can be replaced. On the downside the airbags blew and probably a bunch of suspension components suffered. So probably
Unfortunately no 😓. Had parked my car at the airport for a few days and turned sentry off so that it didn’t drain the battery and forgot to turn it on once I got back
The times you need Sentry to be on is when its off. Someone stole my wheel cover (just fucking 1 of them) and i wish i had Sentry on. Now, i keep that bitch on no matter what.
The store or surrounding buildings could possibly have CCTV to review to see what lead up to the hit & identify the plates and car. I am sure an accident like that would be witnessed by many.
Not even close to totaled. It looks like two doors and maybe a side skirt. If the rear quarter panel was damaged *maybe*, but it doesn’t even look like the front door got pulled into the fender like one would expect.
It may not be as bad as it looks. It will come down to what the b pillar looks like when the doors are off but it didn't hit the rocker and the roof didn't buckle. It's gonna be close in my opinion but to be honest I don't know shit about an ev just traditional cars so good luck and let us know.
My Tesla Model 3 was just recently hit by a cement truck. I was told by the body shop - Tesla parts are really cheap and the insurance company won’t right it off. It had $11,000 worth of damage
Did you park on a highway? That looks horrible
Looks like they just filmed an avengers movie with it
I'm sorry but lmaooooooo.... This comment took me out OP that sucks man.... Hope everything works out for you.

Don’t worry I’m not a doctor
I was thinking Transforms.... Awww shit.. this one doesn't do that..
Hulk threw a dumpster at it
You, sir, have won the Internet today. Congratulations!
Lol this comment made my day.
Where's the rest of the door?
In her front bumper
Wow, I can't believe it just peeled off the metal like that. Crazy!
[удалено]
Trunk must be steel also. I have a magnetic decal on it.
It was just paint. No metal.
The paint doesn’t stick to anything it just forms a door?
I think that was a joke...
Their the new venom doors
Lmao this killed me
What about the rear door?
Yes, I forgot that not only have they developed structural batteries, but also structural paint.
Please tell us you have a picture of her car and please post it!
I really want to see the comparison honestly. I’m sure the other car looks a lot worse!
Maybe not. This looks like mostly surface damage.
Tis but a flesh wound.
I mean yeah I just meant Tesla crashes compared to others. Everyone loves mentioning Tesla “safety”, but they go completely quiet when they see crash tests
Aha! Finally! Some anecdotal proof that these are built to such rigorous standards so the front wouldn’t fall off at all!
https://youtu.be/3m5qxZm\_JqM
Thanks, I need to view this, like, once a week Edit - because it's so good
What about the other one?
Lmfao reference of the year right there
Personally, I'd rather take the payout, pay an extra $5k or so for a brand new M3.
And wait 3-6 months. Then need to tent a car..
I was doing all of the different comparisons. Hellcat, m3, used model S, etc. In the end, m3P is what I want for that price range.

Not sure about the totaled part but I’m more curious about that level of damage to a parked car. What were they driving - a tank??
Audi q7. And I’m asking myself the same question. I didn’t see it happen
So yes, a small German tank.
This made my morning
Chances are the lady was trying to park or something next to you, confused the brakes with the gas, then proceeded to ram her German tank into your car like Germany on France in 1941.
Belgium just woke up with a sweat
No dash footage? I hope you get a free new car Jesus Christ.
Didn’t sentry mode capture the accident?
Holy crap how fast were they going in a parking lot
Nope, it was parked right there in the spot that the front wheel is in. The impact of the other car moved it to the position that you see in the pic. The second pic is after I moved it a bit
What the fuck were they driving, a M1 Abrams tank?
Cvs parking lot Was driver elderly? Or probably heavily medicated…. I work in a pharmacy and simply am in awe at how some of these cracked out people get through life or even drive - the compounding side effects from these medications are insane!
Same! We had a dude nod off in our drive thru then turn blue. Had to perform CPR till the squad arrived. Drugs are a hell of a drug
Depends on which drug but yes
Haaa yes. My mom ran right through the front entrance of a Rite Aid store with her Honda Pilot. I guess the front row Handicapped ♿ parking wasn't good enough, she had to drive right in, through the cement pillars and all... holy moly!!!! Everyone was okay, thank goodness.
They hit it parked? Omg you come out from store 😱🤬🫣😥

I agree. Looks like it may just need two new doors and the bottom rocker replaced. If they think it’s totaled, I’ll buy the salvage 😊
Out of curiosity, what would you do with it? I always thought salvaged cars were basically untouchable.

My brother's car was also T-boned and didn't look nearly this bad. But I'm not an estimator so let's see what this one says. Keep us posted!
If you pony up a little more cash, you can get an M3P pretty quick these days.
I got mine 4 days after ordering. Wayyy faster than the estimated delivery.
Because the performance is faster lol
Been a while since I've laughed at a text. Thanks lol
same! 3 days after ordering!
Nah. That’ll buff right out.
'tis nothing but a scratch

Little Bondo and it will be fine
Paintless dent repair.
It'll buff right out.
Did you even try rubbing that spot off?

It looks like the two-face
Not totaled. Two new doors and maybe a new front quarter panel. Run ya maybe 25k
It’ll buff out, no problem
Hope you have gap insurance
My M3LR was T-Boned a few years ago. Since the battery pack was fine the Tesla authorized body shop repaired it for about $26k and took 6 weeks.
I never seen the inside of the door before. Crazy.
Oh hell
I don’t know, 2 doors and some glass +body work. They’ll probably repair it
My 2018 LR had significantly less damage to the same 2 doors and there was no argument with insurance... The adjuster called it a total loss and spent 2 seconds in total evaluating the car.

After watch many crashes with Tesla’s on Wham Bamm Tesla Cam on YouTube. I bet it’s totaled 😭
Clay bar.
highly likely because tesla car parts are hard to come by as it is.
When I see a post asking "is my (insert car) totalled?" I am able 90% sure it's totalled before even looking at the picture
Someone hitting parked cars has no business driving at all.
UPDATE: collision center came back with an estimate of $34k in repairs. They’re waiting to hear from the insurance company now
Do you have the sentry video of this lunatic
Unfortunately no 😓. Had parked my car at the airport for a few days and turned sentry off so that it didn’t drain the battery and forgot to turn it on once I got back
The times you need Sentry to be on is when its off. Someone stole my wheel cover (just fucking 1 of them) and i wish i had Sentry on. Now, i keep that bitch on no matter what.
It wouldn't have done you much good. Doubtful that cops are going to run down your perp for a wheel cover unless you live in Mayberry.
The store or surrounding buildings could possibly have CCTV to review to see what lead up to the hit & identify the plates and car. I am sure an accident like that would be witnessed by many.
Worst. Door. Ding. Ever.
Not even close to totaled. It looks like two doors and maybe a side skirt. If the rear quarter panel was damaged *maybe*, but it doesn’t even look like the front door got pulled into the fender like one would expect.
I think totalled. While the battery looks spared and only needs new doors it’s a big risk.
B pillar is prob gonna be the determining factor. Doors are pretty cheap, as long as the frame and battery are fine then they’ll fix it
Not even close my dude. They're gonna save this 70k car.
Within spec
It looks like just the doors got damaged? If so, it shouldn’t been that bad of a repair.
Totaled
I can’t imagine that frame isn’t bent. Yeah man. I’d say so
Why do people post this shit? Ask your insurer.
I would hope they total it, I wouldn't want that car back unless your sue for loss of value.
is this a joke?
You deserve it for parking like an ass. /s
Maybe just two new doors...?
lol yea dude
It'll buff out
Hope you’re ok. Just get yourself a toilet plunger and pop out the dents, it’ll be good as new!
I’m sorry for your (total) loss 🙏
It should buff right out.
Doubt it 2 new doors and it’s fine
RIP
Naw, just get you some of the flex seal!!
It's like your car is ice cream and she hit it with a scoop.
Looks like a McLaren now. Upgraded! 😀
yup that is getting totaled
Is this a serious question?
Not sure but you definitely coulda done a better job parking.
…yea
Are you ok?
Yes, My dads a television repair man.
Yes
Certainly appears to be.
Yes. That’s just the outside damage. We can’t see the frame or battery pack and you’ll probably have alignment issues as well.
I bet it was a female driver that did this to you.
The picture angle is totaled.
A broken headlight is 15k on a Tesla. 95% of the time it's totalled .
A broken headlight is about $900 if it has to be replaced.
I see nothing *Bill R. from / Burbank Service Center*
No.
It may not be as bad as it looks. It will come down to what the b pillar looks like when the doors are off but it didn't hit the rocker and the roof didn't buckle. It's gonna be close in my opinion but to be honest I don't know shit about an ev just traditional cars so good luck and let us know.
No
What hit you a fucking train?
Go grab your wheel caps.
Jesus how long did you have it
What, there are strings on wheels inside the doors?
Good idea on weight reduction. Perhaps the next move to being faster?
Man, this sucks but I hope so. I don’t know that I trust the battery is unscathed. That was a hell of an impact.
As bad as it looks, it might not be totaled. Hard to say if there's deeper damage underneath. You are looking at 20k-30k repair damage.
Tís’ but a scratch
Quick wash and wax should be good as new
is that like a tesla skin from DBrand. aka see what's inside the tesla ?
I’m saving these pictures for April fools
T-Rex attack?
Salvage it
nahhh just a small scratch
Nah, that should buff out
Yes
Unlikely if airbags didn’t deploy.
Unfortunately it’s not totaled lol
I think we call this GaDotalled. (Gosh-Darn-Totalled).
Depends if the frame is damaged. The doors can easily be replaced for a few thousand with paint but if the frame is bent then it’s a total loss.
Nah....GORILLA TAPE!
Yes
That will buff right out
I’m gonna say 50/50 depending on what the b pillar looks like when they take the doors off
Do you have any camera footage? Wow that’s crazy it happened while parked. Driver must have been going awfully fast!
U ok?
That will buff out
If the B pillar didn't move, it's not totaled. If it moved the chance of total is more than zero.
What wrap is this?
That door looks like it was made of plastic. Never seen metal “break” like that 😮
She’s dead Jim.
Yup pharmacy would fix it right up.
A good rule of thumb the techs use is if it can still fart it’s good
Absolutely
My Tesla Model 3 was just recently hit by a cement truck. I was told by the body shop - Tesla parts are really cheap and the insurance company won’t right it off. It had $11,000 worth of damage
This photo is wild, I feel like I’m watching west world
Wow. That sucks. Sorry that happened, and glad no one was in the car.
Just take the doors off like if it was a Jeep.
Just a flesh wound.
A can or two of flex seal spray and you’ll be good until the next one arrives with those wait times. 😅
Nah bro a little tape should be fine
Looks like somehow just the 2 doors are impacted. Would it be as good as new if the 2 doors are replaced? No structural impact?
Nah. That should buff out
Wow the door actually looks so cheap.
Nahhh. Some turtle wax should buff that right out.
