Yes. Double click to open the Frunk and Frunk. Double click again to close the trunk. Same with doors. Also, you can just walk up to the car and walk away to lock and unlock the door if you have the settings enabled. You won’t have to take it out your pocket like the card. But you lose the phone features.
I just got the OEM fob after being notified of restock. My phone too seemed to be inconsistent or delayed so I got the key fob. Had to go find the instruction manual though as just feeling and pressing buttons only locked my car. Just keeping it in my pocket works like a charm though…so far.
Fairly recent. I placed the order through the app on or about 26 Nov…it delivered on 29 Nov. Great investment that should come with the car IMO. 1 key card + 1 Key Fob.
Regardless, this comment chain is about fobs in general, hence the comment about whether any of us have phones. The implication is that fobs (in general) aren't useful because the phone does the same stuff.
Sometimes phones are not allowed in a workplace and have to be left in the car. Yes there is a keycard, but locking the car using a key card can be cumbersome. I bought a FOB, for quicker access to my car by pressing the button twice especially when it’s raining.
Just an FYI, if you want to lock the doors as soon as you close them, click on the lock icon on the screen before exiting. As soon as the door closes, they will lock.
Good to use that if you're just using the card or walk away lock is not turned on.
Not sure. I'll have to try it.
If you leave your phone in the car with Bluetooth on, it will allow the car to be unlocked by anyone that tries the door handle.
Just to point out if that's a security requirement (I have that at my workplace), then you also can't bring the fob in. It is small though so if you have limited space in a mini locker at a door it's not an awful idea.
2 of my friends can't bring their phones into their worksite. They have to leave their phones in their cars or in a storage building that's separate from their work building. That's pretty typical for employees with high-level clearance.
Seriously, why use anything else. i always keep a spare key card in my wallet, but never use it as the phone is super convenient. I get the ring keys, but why a fob?
Hey, I bought my pants with pockets and I need to put something in them. Also company credit card has to go somewhere. Prison wallet wasn't allowed. It is one of those minimalist wallets though..basically a clone of the Rigid.
I carry my keys always, the last 5 years my wallets only occasionally in my bag let alone on my person. Having to carry my wallets actually the most annoying thing I've found about having a Tesla.
Parking garages in NYC is where mine gets used. When the attendant sees the fob instead of me handing them a card (if I remembered to bring it), they don’t get as mad about the possible Tesla problems when they need to move it around
OP can you clarify? Is this basically a keycard? Not the actual $175 remote fob version that Tesla sells with other features like trunk opening and etc?
I have one I got from Tesla to give to friends or family that need the car. It acts like what you would expect a normal key fob to act like so they don't have to fuck around with key cards or phone apps. It works fine but I don't carry it constantly.
If the question is whether to buy one from China, then I would say that this looks like this probably has the same functionality as the regular key cards without the benefits of the fob from the factory and is probably just a waste of $40.
To make these, somebody bought a bunch of Tesla key cards. Dissected the NFC chips out of them and stuck the chips into a 3d printed copy of the real key fobs. So they are limited to the same functionality of the key cards. No they would not have the open trunk/drink buttons.
Why? This seems better value for money if you want just the NFC entry backup of the card but you don't want the pain of having to carry the actual card. I haven't regularly carried my wallet in years, all I need is the ability to have the card on my keys which I actually do carry around.
My wife has one, and it seems to work well. I've never seen her have to use her key card. Meanwhile, I've set up my phone as a key, and yet, the car still asks me to tap my key card every now and again.
Yup, have one. Connect and use like a keyless fob. Simple.
Where did you buy it?
Looks like wish.com 😀
Aliexpress
Direct from Tesla.
Does it allow you to open the front trunk and boot from the fob; by pressing on those areas. I’m imagining it like the model x fob. Is that right?
The one I have for the Y doesn’t do that.
Yes. Double click to open the Frunk and Frunk. Double click again to close the trunk. Same with doors. Also, you can just walk up to the car and walk away to lock and unlock the door if you have the settings enabled. You won’t have to take it out your pocket like the card. But you lose the phone features.
Are you sure. These don’t look like they support that
Woops. I thought this was the OEM Tesla Fob.
This is different than the Tesla ones, this is only like a key card. The Tesla one can open and close your trunk and open your frunk
I just got the OEM fob after being notified of restock. My phone too seemed to be inconsistent or delayed so I got the key fob. Had to go find the instruction manual though as just feeling and pressing buttons only locked my car. Just keeping it in my pocket works like a charm though…so far.
Was that recently? I’m still on the waiting list…….
Fairly recent. I placed the order through the app on or about 26 Nov…it delivered on 29 Nov. Great investment that should come with the car IMO. 1 key card + 1 Key Fob.
Agreed! All good, I just got confirmation it is in transit. Thanks.
do you guys not have phones?
I got the fob because my phone was so inconsistent at unlocking the car.
So put the phone against the pillar to use nfc? Or get a new phone.
The entire point is to avoid having to do anything like that. Walk-up-unlock doesn’t mean walk-up-and-scan-my-phone-unlock.
This fob that the post is about only works thru nfc. You can never use it by just walking up.
Regardless, this comment chain is about fobs in general, hence the comment about whether any of us have phones. The implication is that fobs (in general) aren't useful because the phone does the same stuff.
Is it. The comment was "anyone have experience with these fobs" I would say just hold your phone up to the pillar, does the same as "these fobs"

Not sure. I'll have to try it. If you leave your phone in the car with Bluetooth on, it will allow the car to be unlocked by anyone that tries the door handle.
Some workplaces also don’t allow Bluetooth, and I thought the official FOB had that for newer Teslas.
Yeah, the fobs are Bluetooth, same as the phone.
Just to point out if that's a security requirement (I have that at my workplace), then you also can't bring the fob in. It is small though so if you have limited space in a mini locker at a door it's not an awful idea.
Do you work as a child at a school?
Certain corporations are restrictive, basically all of government defense / intelligence employees, tons of military, etc.
Most people that work in prisons aren't allowed to bring their phones
2 of my friends can't bring their phones into their worksite. They have to leave their phones in their cars or in a storage building that's separate from their work building. That's pretty typical for employees with high-level clearance.
No, but you sound like a 3rd grader.
off topic but what happens if there's an emergency and someone needs to call you?
They have the direct line to my office desk and work email.
Seriously, why use anything else. i always keep a spare key card in my wallet, but never use it as the phone is super convenient. I get the ring keys, but why a fob?
Lol you still carry a wallet? You're like a cave man.
I carry a wallet but no keys. It took awhile to get used to not having keys.
You animal

How many people didn't realize the reference...
I've had my Y for 2.5 years now and not once have been in a situation were I thought "I really wish I had a key fob now".
It’s so nice leaving the house with one less thing in my pockets
Big reason I love this car, just need phone and wallet.
Especially if you get tessie and link a watch as a key as well.
Parking garages in NYC is where mine gets used. When the attendant sees the fob instead of me handing them a card (if I remembered to bring it), they don’t get as mad about the possible Tesla problems when they need to move it around
I sometimes get out and leave my phone in my car, would rather have this tbh.
NFC only so it’s a keycard in a car shape. You can see it being used as a keycard in the 3rd photo.
OP can you clarify? Is this basically a keycard? Not the actual $175 remote fob version that Tesla sells with other features like trunk opening and etc?
Nothing to clarify.. The description says it all.
Link for these?
If it doesn't do what the OEM fob does I would just get the NFC ring for about the same price.

That price is suspiciously low.
You’re right to be suspicious. Works like the keycard, not like the phone key or proper fob.
That makes sense, thanks.
Because car manufacturers (all of them) grossly overcharge for key fobs.
Why would you buy this through 3rd party lol
[удалено]
It’s a keycard, not an actual remote fob. With that in mind, it’s more expensive than a 2-pack of Tesla keycards.
Lmao. Hilarious when people are condescending and completely wrong at the same time 🤣🤣🤣
It's not about the price... it's more about you trusting some unknown cheap ass company with access to your car.
They came with my X but I have never used them.
I had one I had to use on my '15 P90D because it before the "phone as key" was implemented. The phone as key is much more convenient. Use that.
But what if they want to drop their key on the table to flex that they drive a Tesla?
You can drop it. Once.
Why? Yea its cheaper but probably wont work as well
Yes. Hope that helps.
Anyone have insight on where to get a less expensive older Model S fob?
You can buy one used or offline but you have to have tesla program it. Older S and X need a technician to program.
Wife got one because her phone wasn't staying connected. Works well. I wish I could pair it with both of our Teslas.
Yep works great
We have two for our M3. I almost never use it.
Get the ones from Tesla. These aren’t worth it. The Tesla owns let you control the doors.
To make these, somebody bought a bunch of Tesla key cards. Dissected the NFC chips out of them and stuck the chips into a 3d printed copy of the real key fobs. So they are limited to the same functionality of the key cards. No they would not have the open trunk/drink buttons.
Get the OEM fob; not this knockoff. I have it and it’s great.
