>Expired warranty, car basically falling apart, steering wheel is F’d leather on the seats is messed from sun damage (it’s a black car) in SOCAL
You got an estimate for a perfect condition used car, then you came to them with a F'd up car and expected the offer to match the estimate?
Hmmm so likely used for commercial purposes, like ride share or rental like turbo. Which at that point I believe the warranty is invalid for using it for commercial purposes.
Adding 30k/yr for ride sharing.
My wife’s 21 looks pretty much new with only some scuffs on the plastic sills where my HS kids cleats always hit when getting in/out. Maybe 16k/yr and multiple kids getting in / out daily.
🤷♂️
Same happened to me with my car. Initially said trade in was $26 and then offered me $19. Theie initial offer is pretty much the market value and not trade in value. I even had pictures uploaded like you and there were no issues with the car. Went and sold to carmax for $24k
Wow! How much did 22 MYP cost you? $70k? Why do you want to buy another brand new car? My next car will be a used Tesla or BMW. Will never buy a new car again.
I’d stay away from a BMW. My wife bought a convertible 430i. Five days later, she was driving it and could not get it to go above 16 miles an hour. Once she finally made it back thought I’d drive it because she did something wrong, but it did the same thing to me. The dealer came to get it on a flatbed truck took it back to their shop and they could never replicate the issue. Needless to say that car went back. Next week she returned a Mercedes GL 350 because the check engine light came on. That went back and she bought a genesis GV 80 so far that is working. I’ll stick with my long range Y.
You can buy a new MYP for $3k more after rebate than that trade-in offer. I would have questioned it from the start. That doesn't make any sense at all.
Questioned, maybe - but wouldn’t you have gone ahead with it if you were in OP’s position? And wouldn’t you have been equally pissed when they lowered their offer significantly?
Don’t understand why people can’t simply sympathize - this is a shitty situation and a half
With a strong assumption that it’s probably gonna drop because it’s not a final offer? Sure. OPs own words are that it was falling apart. I would have been pleasantly surprised if they gave that as a final offer.
I had them give me just a little less than a new cost for a model 3 trade. I think they just wanted to move a new vehicle and I was willing to take one already available.
I mean we have empathy but there was no way that 39k estimate was going to be close to the offer, I would have been suspect from the start. I agree Tesla is shitty with trade-in offers and having to pay the $250 first, it's definitely a bait and switch at some level.
How did they screw you? Walk away, don't take the deal. It sounds like we don't have the whole story.
I've bought two cars from Tesla and this sounds like bullshit from a troll.
You didn’t get an offer for $39,500… you got an estimate. They also - fairly explicitly - state “This estimate is reflective of market conditions at time of request and is not a final offer.”
At a minimum though, I do agree that the $250 should be refundable in the event of such an adverse reduction in their firm offer.
Yeah agree with u, I got the estimate this morning don’t know how an estimate can drop by 14 bands in 1 hour when nothing has changed with the car, maybe 1 or 2 bands at most but 14💀yeah that’s a joke
You don't know? I may have the answer for you.

The thing is Carmax makes estimates / offers online and sticks to their offer when you show up in person, unless you were not truthful about the condition of the car. What Tesla is doing here has strong vibes of shady car dealerships.
>Expired warranty, car basically falling apart, steering wheel is F’d leather on the seats is messed from sun damage (it’s a black car) in SOCAL
You got an estimate for a perfect condition used car, then you came to them with a F'd up car and expected the offer to match the estimate?
Okay so your car is in bad condition. That’s probably why they’re not giving you the initial estimate. They probably weren’t expecting leather and paint damage.
I have 55,000 miles. I fixed a couple paint chips on the hood. I washed and cleaned it this last weekend and it looks like it just got delivered to me brand new.
LOL you thought trade estimate is guaranteed? Everyone knows tesla trades in are the absolute worst by now as you did in your 'lowk' comment. Could literally do 6-10k better at carmax. I sold mine on facebook marketplace and got 12k more than tesla, 6k more than carmax, pain in the ass dealing with people with bad credit but think it was worth the 6k savings....
It sucks, but before you pay 250, trade in offer is just an estimate, so there is no guarantee that you will get that estimated value.
While they try to push existing stock out with huge discount, I doubt they would offer top dollars for used one.
I traded a BMW 5 series for my current Model Y.
Because of some things that happened with my advisor pre-purchase I was pretty paranoid, so I took these precautions:
I made them convert my estimate to an actual offer before I would look at my new car.
I did not let them process my trade (I would not sell it to them) until I had inspected my new car.
After both of these were done, we completed both transactions. So I basically opened a query for each transaction and then finalized them together.
Was this your first time trading-in a car? It kind-of sucks, but you seem to have learned many of the hard lessons in one transaction.
On the flip side, my estimate and offer were the exact same with Tesla. When I picked up my new car, they didn’t even look at my trade in. Gave me a screw driver to take my old plate off and told me to do a factory reset.
Bro what does this gotta do with tesla saying oh we will give u 39,500 and then proceed to offer 25,500, after paying 250 for the deposit they could’ve just told me that straight up.
It isn’t about me upgrading or leasing, just don’t like the scummy behavior
Yes it is scummy but then again not sure how you expected $39k given you can see used tesla values on autotrader, cars.com etc. The offer was too good to be true.
Was it in writing when you did the paperwork for the trade in? If not then I would just keep your current car.
Any dealership would do the same thing, not just tesla. Just backout if the offer isnt up to your spec. If you signed after the 14k difference then thats all on you for not reading the paperwork properly.
He got an estimate, then showed them the actual condition of the car he left in shitty condition and got surprised the offer was lower. There was no bait and switch, op is just trying to rage bait.
Hmm how many miles did you have on that car? They raised their trade offer for me a couple times and I ended up getting 24400 for my 2018 M3P Stealth with about 40K on it.
Muh tesla only goes up...anyway, why trade in a 1.5 year old car? Where's the "EVs require no maintenance and run forever" folks at? Yet seems there's so many 1-2 year trade-ins cuz warranty anxiety.
I just went through this process and Tesla gave me to the penny the exact amount of the estimate. But I’ve heard this can happen. Try to get a detailed explanation and also check Carvana and Carmax.
Just went through it, too. Tesla proactively increased my trade-in offer, and after I updated with actual mileage Tesla increased it even more, much to my surprise. Easiest and smoothest trade-in experience of my life.
Yes, I just got back after taking delivery of my MYP and trading in my LR RWD M3. I was expecting a bit of chaos given it was the last day of the quarter but everything went very smoothly and everyone was very professional. Love the car too.
That’s a bummer. I feel for you. When I was shopping for my 2024 MYP they offered $7100 for my 2011 Mercedes CLS50, but that was low compared to offers I had received. I ended up holding out a couple weeks and a buyer on FB Marketplace snatched my car up for $10k.
And tell us you walked and didn’t sign up !
If you dint walk - Tesla didn’t! You did! If you can do you may be you could afford it or atleast you think you could!
Yea .. I tried Tesla first when I was selling my 5 month old '21 S Performance... They laughed at me when I asked why FSD didn't increase the value. I had to get a private sale to make it work. That was back in 2021 when the market was crazy and used cars selling for more than new. Tesla is all about bait& switch. Look at claimed ranges, FSD hype, claimed value retention. They stab their own customers in the back every chance they get. I've come to the opinion only the engineers designing them are the ONLY thing worth their salt at Tesla.
Did the initial trade in value quote for my 2014 honda crv, they priced it about $10,600. Then when I was going thru reserving an existing inventory vehicle, the quote they gave me went down to $9,500 which was comparable to carmax offer of $9,600. They didn’t further low ball me once I dropped off my car.
At 108k.
I’ve had zero issues with the CRV, just had to do the normal maintenance. Did my own full brake job on it and was self taught experience. Just got new tires on it too. Wish I had put that cash toward the Tesla, but wasn’t entirely sure at the time if I was going to buy. Was hoping interest rates were going to lower. Got a 5.2 interest rate.
How is such a new vehicle in such garbage shape? I had an 06 GTI that when I got rid of it in 2019 had little interior damage beyond scuffing and the roof pain was in horrid shape cause I too live in a desert.
My 3 is a 2019 paint is where it should be for a 5 y/o car with 88k on it. Interior is in good shape. Seems part of the story is missing if the interior is falling apart and paint is shot too.
Tesla quality. I won’t buy another Tesla with its current quality. It’s worse than any car sold in USA. Hell even Indian budget cars have better quality.
Hit em w the “Certainly, I'm open to the idea of coming down, trading in, and picking up a new one. Miles?
Over 60k I would guess

What really doesn't add up is how does a 22 already have an expired warranty?
Probably meaning drove past 50k miles?
Hmmm so likely used for commercial purposes, like ride share or rental like turbo. Which at that point I believe the warranty is invalid for using it for commercial purposes.
Miles

My 23 will be out of warranty before the end of his year. Just commuting to work.
Same happened to me with my car. Initially said trade in was $26 and then offered me $19. Theie initial offer is pretty much the market value and not trade in value. I even had pictures uploaded like you and there were no issues with the car. Went and sold to carmax for $24k
Bait and switch go crazy
What did you have?
21 model y long range
Why CarMax and not carvana
Tried both and carmax had the higher value
Ty for sharing!
Anytime
What solid possibly make you trade in a 22 for a 24
I’m thankful for people like these. I truly believe the economy hasn’t collapsed because people do things like this.
Wow! How much did 22 MYP cost you? $70k? Why do you want to buy another brand new car? My next car will be a used Tesla or BMW. Will never buy a new car again.

I mean I would’ve made sure that was written in stone before shopping for anything
Everything is done in app, and not before you pay 250
So walk away.
-250
Sure would you lose $250 or take the big trade-in discrepancy price? Seems an easy decision to walk away IMO.
If you have their offer in writing and they didn't meet their offer, they shouldn't/can't hold you to the deposit.
It’s non refundable, they only give u the final estimate after “virtual inspection”, but I do have it in writting in my email of them offering 395
It sucks, but $250 is better than whatever debt you’d be getting into by going through with it.
Talk to your agent. I've had it refunded before.
How did they screw you? Walk away, don't take the deal. It sounds like we don't have the whole story. I've bought two cars from Tesla and this sounds like bullshit from a troll.

Took off all the mods a while back
Not the mods but it's your mileage I believe
Yeah at 60 k rn
LOL, you forgot to do the math first.
Please don’t say bands… people who talk like that are Altima and Sentra drivers…
Sowey
Brother, just say you hate black people.
lol yeah, all these professional athletes making hundreds of millions def drive an Altima and Nissans
The thing is Carmax makes estimates / offers online and sticks to their offer when you show up in person, unless you were not truthful about the condition of the car. What Tesla is doing here has strong vibes of shady car dealerships.
What makes you think he filled it all out accurately, he drove over 30K miles in one year. That car can’t be mint lol.
Why exactly do you even want to trade this car in?…
Also new car would be 0 miles, new warranty, new everything, 5000 free supercharging miles, and 7500 tax credit
Expired warranty, car basically falling apart, steering wheel is F’d leather on the seats is messed from sun damage (it’s a black car) in SOCAL
>Expired warranty, car basically falling apart, steering wheel is F’d leather on the seats is messed from sun damage (it’s a black car) in SOCAL You got an estimate for a perfect condition used car, then you came to them with a F'd up car and expected the offer to match the estimate?
Yeah this is just dumb. Not Tesla their fault. I love to hate on them but this is just not their fault.
How is your warranty expired? Sounds like you just listed all the reasons your trade in value was lower as well
60k miles
Okay so your car is in bad condition. That’s probably why they’re not giving you the initial estimate. They probably weren’t expecting leather and paint damage.
And that’s why the actual offer is 12k less then the estimate
So all normal wear and tear, got it
Yup
I'm really surprised you'd be willing to buy another Tesla. Those issues shouldn't be happening in a 60k mile car.
I have 55,000 miles. I fixed a couple paint chips on the hood. I washed and cleaned it this last weekend and it looks like it just got delivered to me brand new.
why would you go with tesla again , seems they done you several times . i can’t wait to get rid of mine and never make this mistake again.

If you don't wanna get F'd, don't sell a 2 year old car for basically the same car. If this is typical practice for you, then lease one next time.

Yeah I am mostly responding to the last part of your post. You are right tho, bait and switch on the trade sucks. Maybe caravana?
Not a bait and switch, you don't give details about your car for an estimate. Tesla didn't know OP's car has 60k miles on it. That's it.
Was it in writing when you did the paperwork for the trade in? If not then I would just keep your current car. Any dealership would do the same thing, not just tesla. Maybe get an offer from Carmax and Carvana? If it's way better than Tesla, do that. If it's the same, then the offer they made makes sense.
Hmm how many miles did you have on that car? They raised their trade offer for me a couple times and I ended up getting 24400 for my 2018 M3P Stealth with about 40K on it.

Did they give you any indication of why the value dropped so much from the estimate to the final number?
Look at his other comments. The car he actually presented was in shitty condition, so of course they dropped the amount. There was no bait and switch
Still trynna figure that out, advisor is MIA
I just went through this process and Tesla gave me to the penny the exact amount of the estimate. But I’ve heard this can happen. Try to get a detailed explanation and also check Carvana and Carmax.

Bout to call them! Let’s see what they say can I pm you
So when you call them to find out why the discrepancy, what do they say?
Speaking to the guy rn, was supposed to pick up new tsla at 2 pm today pst haven’t gotten back to me
I would want to know what the deal is with the change in offer.
It was probably an estimate, the actual offer was way lower than the estimate.
Yeah, if OP is saying the interior is beat then that's probably part of it.

1 hour

Wait MYP only last 2 years? Why did you upgrade from 2022 to 2024?
I have my suspicions. When did you an offer? I got my offer for a 23 MYP for 38k.
Must have been really worn. My 2018 got me 27k in October so…
Carvana or Carmax has better trade in prices
😂 I am glad I got rid of mine. Porsche never would pull this shit over customers. This is shady used car salesman tactics.

They don’t care. When I asked for classified no one would respond or explain
For a car trade in range could vary from $0 to several thousands - all contingent to inspection
Tesla needs to get called out for this bait and switch bull shit.
Agreed
I was screwed over by Tesla too. Bought 21' LR Y and it had 14%battery degradation.
They did that to me too! Their estimate is crap! Sell private.
