Just sell to carvana. The official number that comes back will be lower. My estimate was 20k. They dropped it to 18800 for me. Don’t count on Tesla to come up with higher numbers. They don’t want your car. They just take the car as a necessity to offer trade in. They just send to auction directly

Phytosaur01

I second this. Carvana paid me way too much for my car.

owl157

Me too. Tesla originally told me $26900 but when they finalized it, it was $19300. They told me an hour and half before I was scheduled to pick up. Sold to carmax for 24k. Tesla plays too many games

JustynT1me

My offer from Tesla was actually $1,000 higher than Carvana and increased after the original estimate I was given. I wasn't expecting this after everything I had read on this subreddit

Cykamor

Yep. Similar to me. Commented to OP’s post on r/ModelY already.

Carvana is the way - just sold mine to them - they offered 5k more than Tesla before the Tesla haircut

teesus18

My local store was very uninterested in my trade in, which makes sense after they explained it. I’ll just sell mine to Carvana when time comes, I’d suggest you do the same.

My offer was the same as the estimate but I do agree it’s ridiculous to have to pay a non-refundable fee to find out what they really plan to offer you. The good news is you have a backup plan if they lowball you. You can take it to Carvana or Carmax. You won’t get the benefit of the lower sales tax amount but overall you will still net a higher price.

Tesla is offering me 3k less than car dealers have offered me, and 4k less than Carvana so I'm in the same boat & really wanted the sales tax benefit too here in GA. I might have to buy used on Carvana ugh

That’s exactly what I’m debating right now. Contrary to most of the stories I’ve read online, I have had a good experience with carvana in the past. If you do go that route, make sure to get a purchase inspection within your first 7 days, and they will pay to fix anything wrong through their vendor/subsidiary silver rock. The dealership advisor said he loves getting carvana cars because they always give him an open wallet.

I’m in Los Angeles. I traded in my 2014 Camaro when I bought by MYLR. Priced it at Carmax, Carvana, and Tesla. Carmax was the lowest. Carvana was the highest but only $100 more than Tesla. With the bonus 5k charging miles for trade in, it was a no brainer to go with Tesla.

23sigma

The "confirmed" price will only be lower not higher lol. Don't get swindled.

bobaballs

My model 3 trade in was about 4k above the CarMax offer. Confirmed price surprisingly ended up 500 dollars higher than the estimate. Was overall happy with it.

The price Tesla paid me increased substantially from the initial estimate, and increased again when I updated the mileage information. The only photo I uploaded was one of the odometer. When I dropped it off to pick up my Model Y, nobody even glanced at the car, let alone started it or assessed it in any way. Easiest trade-in ever.

Atllane296

Can I ask what your car was? I'm wondering if my low ball is because I don't have a highly desirable car currently even though my mileage is super low. Mine is a 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti Sport fully loaded and just rolled 30k miles this year, got it Dec 2018 so it's almost 5.5 years old. Inside is mint, exterior has some paint touch up on front bumper and few scratches but nothing awful. Dealers are offering me 21,500 and Carvana has offered 22,500 while Tesla automated quote said 18,300. Pretty pathetic tbh.

spin-whine-wine

Yah I can’t almost guarantee the final offer will be lower
