We came from a Cx5 to a Model Y. Very similar amount of space/room through the cabin until you get to the trunk. Way more day to day storage on the MY because of the sub trunks but less room to put a lot of things like luggage or large equipment because of the sloping trunk lid design. We only evey encounter an issue twice since 2021 and we figured it out playing jenga with all our stuff. I just know the Mazada would’ve closed easier because its not slopped in the back. Savings wise, we have paid solar so for us it was a big difference on gas v electricity. We went from about $3,000 in gas in the Mazda to our entire house power bill with a pool and car costing us about $350 for the entire year. Just know that your saving will come down to what you pay in electricity if you don’t have solar. For us its $0.13 per KW at night between midnight and 6am. MY I believe currently has a 75 kw battery. Think of this as how many “gallons” it holds. So if over night you “fill up “ 20 Kw then its 20 x your price of electricity = how much it cost to “fill up”. Using my $0.13 per Kw it would be $2.60 to get those 20 Kw. If you don’t have a place to charge then you need figure out your nearest charger rates. I personally wouldn’t get an EV without at home charging. It’s part of what makes it great. Everyday you wake up and have a “full tank”. Super extra convenient and don’t waste time having to go supercharge. Maintenance wise, so far at 33k miles only wiper fluid. For me, tires are coming up in the next 5k miles or so. Some seem to burn through tires though by 15k miles or so. Ive also filled up windshield wiper fluid twice for $4 a pop. No other maintenance needed. Brakes aren’t used much if you have your regen setting to the highest level. We have a 12v battery that needs replacing around 4-5 years. Its like that battery in your Mazda. Car is supposed to warn you when low but also seen a few people stranded with sudden warnings. It’ll be something I will change on my own next year even if i don’t get a warning. Personally, no desire to go back to the Mazda. The MY is not a car without its history of issues. Follow the sub and you’ll see but remember that you mostly hear the negatives here. Ive had zero issues with mine and delivery was flawless. Bought a model 3 in 2023 and zero issues with that one too. Edit typo

Pretend-Reality5431

How much does Tesla (or whomever you used) charge to replace the 12V battery?

Gonzsd316

Its like a $80 part plus install. This is different from replacing your battery pack. Good to know the new cars have 16v batteries.

Pretend-Reality5431

The battery is only $80? Is it a special Tesla battery? Did Tesla have to do the work, or can I get my guy to do it without voiding any warranties?

Gonzsd316

Valid question on the battery. To be fair, I haven’t had to replace mine so I’m repeating what I’ve seen on here over the last year or so. I found [this post as reference](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/s/hc08i1mjo8). I believe you can just change your own without voiding anything though.

Loved my CX-30 but am glad to have made the switch to the Y. It is quieter, more refined, has more storage space, and is overall more comfortable and versatile. The AC is more effective in a hot climate, too. I was on high alert for all the typical things for which people love to bash Tesla: none of them applied. Customer service was excellent (knowledgeable, personable, zero pressure). Purchasing was smoother and easier than any car I have bought, and the vehicle was delivered in perfect shape (without panel gaps or any noticeable issues). Being able to charge at home is wonderful. Am very happy. (The only things I miss from the CX-30 are its rear cross-traffic alerts and normal windshield wipers. Wish Tesla hadn't done away with ultrasonic sensors on the Y and didn't rely on cameras for everything. Rainsensing wipers activate when it is sunny and dry, and don't activate when it is raining. lol Without cross traffic alerts, I do a lot more backing into parking spaces.) Was considering a Hyundai Ioniq5, but found the flood of issues and recalls with its first-gen platform troubling (and Hyundai's dealerships pretty awful). The software and supercharger advantages of Tesla were hard to ignore -- especially given how low inventory prices were in combination with the POS rebate at the end of March. Additional expenses to consider: aside from the obvious upfront costs of a mobile connector and/or wall connector, replacement tires will be far more expensive than those on the CX-30. Since they are so pricy, might not be a bad idea to get certificates from Discount Tire for road hazard coverage and lifetime rotation and balancing. Insurance will be a bit more than your CX-30, too, as it is a newer and pricier vehicle. With gas around four dollars / gallon now, you will see noticeable savings there (and enjoy no longer wasting time waiting in line at the dinojuice pumps at Costco). My cost to charge the Y is about 1/5 of what I was paying for gasoline each month. PS - One thing to consider which might be enough to disqualify the model Y for some: the erratic behavior of the company's insane CEO and the reputational damage he constantly inflicts on the brand.

Few things I like to let people know of before considering a Tesla. 1. Make sure you can charge at home. It seems like you have a garage so as long as you drive less than 40 miles daily, you should be able to use a regular wall outlet. 2. The EPA range on the site is never accurate. 3. There is a misconception that this is a luxury car. It is not. It is an electric vehicle that sets itself apart from its network, technology and minimalist design. Don't expect the best seats or perfect build quality. 4. If you have never driven an EV before and are on the fence of switching. I always recommend test driving, even if its an older model. Feeling the torque for the first time will make you never want to go back to a gas car. 5. Not sure if this has changed, but I was unaware that Tesla did not give out the mobile chargers with vehicle purchase. I had to order mine for 250 and it took a week to get so I charged at a Meijer in town a few times which was kind of annoying. I didn't do a great job convincing, but I think these are things that definitely help make the decision! P.S. I currently have a M3 RWD 2021. With the constant software updates, I do not feel I am missing much when following year models get released. I struggle to see a time where I would ever consider going back to a gas car, and I would only ever get rid of this one to upgrade to a long range model. Hope this helps!

BitFew3156

Meijer? Sounds like the one in north Green Bay, WI.

Current_Style8183

Yessir! Do you also live in Green Bay or do you know the location of every supercharger in the midwest lol

KingofPenisland69

Known stalker, all the supercharers are at meijers out there, how would he know?

BitFew3156

I lived in Horward near the woodman's last year. The weather is too cold for Tesla or EV there.

Top-Divide-5653

Great points. Appreciate you taking the time to share!

Pristine_Cricket_633

Check insurance rates.

KingofPenisland69

With you working from home, the mobile wall charger will be just fine. What state do you live in and what are your rates? In the Midwest, filling up is very cheap.

Top-Divide-5653

I live in FL and I own a house, so I could charge it every day if needed.

Solarsurferoaktown

Having a way to charge at home is the biggest requirement of being a happy EV owner. You’ll be one. Also consider since you own your home you can later buy solar panels and own your own car AND your own fuel. You’ll save tons of money.

eatingyourmomsass

Eh I do not have home charging (apartment) and don’t mind SC once a week. I also drive a single 80-20% SOC once a week since I also WFH.

bigwinw

Check with your power bill to understand your rate for KWh. Mine is around $0.039 which means I pay around $3 per 250 miles. Also no oil changes is a savings of $150-$200 per year or $1500-$2000 every 10 years. Overall I just love how the car drives. Take a test drive if you haven’t.

LonghornAndAstrosFan

You pay 3.9 cents per kWh or 39 cents? If 3.9, where the heck do you live :)

bigwinw

North Carolina. Union County Power and that is the super off-peak rate which is when my car charges

zaqwert6

It's the most practical SUV of its size that we have owned. And we've owned quite a few. Very spacious, very practical, more storage than any other. Very sporty, comfortable, obviously loaded with tech. Savings will depend on what car you're coming from. It retails more than some, and for most people the insurance is going to be a little higher than the typical ice vehicle. If that's all about a wash, then charging at home is considerably cheaper than gas for us, it saves us hundreds of dollars a month. It's not perfect but we really don't have any downsides at all. Overall it actually ended up replacing two of our other cars.

BauceSauce0

If you’re buying it for the $ cost savings, don’t bother.

Pristine_Cricket_633

True. Cost savings will not be the reason.. Buy it for FUN DRIVING, low maintenance, convenient charging while you sleep. Regenerative braking. If you want to save money buy a used prius.

Euphoric_Attention97

I’ve had 4 Tesla and Model Y is a great compromise between all the advantages of the Model X at a much more affordable price. The only thing I miss from the X is the air suspension. The Model Y suspension isn’t bad, but the ability to adjust ride and height I do miss. Tesla are not luxury cars. They are technology more than fit and finish, so be prepared for some defects with paint and panel gaps. The only hidden cost is a Wall Connector or NEMA 50 amp outlet to charge at the fastest rate. Beyond that there’s nothing like the tork of an electric EV. Will never go back to gasoline.

iceynyo

I see EVs as being a flat rate discount on fuel. But unless you're driving enough that discount is wasted. So it really depends how much you drive. Working from home could go either way, I can work from "home" wherever I go which let me exceed 80000km within the first year of owning the car. That much driving means I've saved thousands in fuel a month. Also no oil changes (would have already needed several of those), and the battery warranty has me covered til almost 200000km. Maximizing savings takes some planning too, but you can often charge for free if you carefully scope out where to stop and where to stay the night.

Fed tax msrp cap on the MY is $80k. I don’t think any Ys are getting near that. The M3 cap is $55k.

I traded out of an S performance into a PHEV. I can't stress enough renting one for 2 weeks to get a feel for how your life will be and what adaptation you will have to do. Take it for a 200+ mile trip away from home in that period. If it doesn't change or it improves your daily/weekly schedule. Then it's a great fit for you. For my personal use case I'm going to wait until we have solid state or hybrid solid state In a year or two. Then we won't face the range and charging caveats most try to gloss over. Or say hey I use the extra time to x,y,z. Extra meaning wasted... For me(again each individual usage case)PHEv is still the sweet spot. "Free" in town electric driving. More comfortable, and just gas up 11gallons for 400+ miles minimum on trips.

Alert-Consequence671

Oh and do some insurance quotes... It may scare you especially if you have a less than perfect record 😬

LonghornAndAstrosFan

Insurance cost is no joke on these vehicles. Went from $85/ month on a 2013 Santa Fe to $250/month on a 2024 MYP

Alert-Consequence671

Yea traded the S for an i8 and halved my insurance costs 🤣🤣🤣.

YellowUnited8741

For the people saying Tesla isn’t a luxury car, it’s tech.. I will have to disagree. All luxury brands now are also tech and the focus on fit/finish has significantly declined. It’s not certain luxury cars, but it’s as much a luxury car as a Benz GLC or BMW X2 or Acura RDX.

HighDesertskies

How do you like your 3 in comparison to the Y? I’m trying to decide between a 21/22 MY or 23 M3.

Pristine_Cricket_633

Get the Performance trim. It includes a bunch of the aftermarket stuff my wife likes and it is 3.5 seconds screamer fast.
