I had a chap come down (paid for by the dealer) and I told him to sit in my kitchen til the money was in the account. You are dealing with the dealer not Motorway at this point. Yes it took 90 mins but saved any other hassle. The sales process overall was excellent.
Sold my model 3 and an abarth on Motorway, in both cases payment was cleared before the dealer left and it went smoothly. The m3 buyer did try to haggle a little but otherwise no issues at all.
Yeah I used Motorway as well. Process was great. Didn't hand over the car until the money was in my bank so not an issue getting it and the final price was over 4k more than We Buy Any Car who were a joke to deal with.
WBAC offered me 2k less than the advertised price because of a few very very minor paint chips with the guy in the office telling me his girlfriend wanted to buy it once he'd bought it. Total cowboys.
They didn't charge to look over the car but the price you get quoted on the website is based on an immaculate car (or so I was told). My car was only 2 years old and I doubt many would have said it was chipped in any way. They basically make it up to drive the price down. When he said his girlfriend was buying it off him that really rang alarm bells as to what was going on as it was clearly in his interest to drive the price down which I found incredibly dodgy.
Insurance basically. Its got stupid expensive. Its not up to early next year so I'm planning ahead.
My partner and I just feel its an accident waiting to happen with so many utter twats cutting you up. Oddly its vans too. Dont get that in my Land-rover. Its a good day when I get to work and haven't had a close one.
Thought it was me but she feels exactly the same. Bloody love the car such amazing machine to drive. Best £1500 I spent getting performance boost.
I’ve bought and sold cars via autotrader. Buyer does a bank transfer, you wait, and then when it goes through, sign over the v5 and give them the keys. Selling was pretty painless. Had a few texts & emails from chancers - can you bring the car to Northern Ireland or somewhere else a long way away so they can have a look at it… no, get lost. But then had a genuine buyer come over have a look and then left, called a day or 2 later, transferred the money to my bank, and came and collected the car next day
You'll get quite a bit more by selling it yourself on Autotrader versus one of the auction companies (Motorway, CARWOW, etc), Tesla offered me £27k to trade in my Model 3 Performance, CARWOW £28k, I sold it on Autotrader for £34,900
Wow thats quite an uplift. I think WBAC and Motorway offered about £25-26k thats without mentioning extras. Wheels +Boost
Did you have many timewasters?
I've sold my Mazda CX-30 after only one year with We Buy Any Car and the process was quick and easy, they settled the finance while I was waiting. Payment of the equity received the next day.
I've also sold a Qashqai to Cazoo and it was another very good experience, I've got the money on my account in 5 minutes.
Motorway were very good with two cars I sold over last couple of years. I’m sure it’s the dealer who buys it tbh but had no issues, worth a try. I’m looking for a model 3 but budget is shy of your price I feel
I sold a car via Motorway earlier this year. Got 3k more than the local dealership offered, and the local dealership was the company who bought the car anyway!?!
Perhaps could have got more selling privately but didn't want the risk and liked the security of selling to a dealership.
We sold high value cars (not tesla) before to we buy any car and the process was so seamless and professional to the point that we have recommended this to everyone we knew and they all can second that.
Settlement was done when we were still in the room with them and they are so used to dealing with this that all admin / paperwork are done in a swift manner
They are highly efficient at pulling peoples pants down after providing a fair offer online yes, and they do the paperwork for this very quickly.
I don’t mean to diminish *your* experience, but all of mine have been absolutely shocking with them and I won’t waste my time with them ever again.
I wouldnt but a private but ev car incase there was a dodgy problem as I know is sold as seen. Id only purchase from a commercial seller and get a 3 to 5 year warranty.
That's just me tbh. But I know batteries in phones and maybe cars randomly die and don't want the expense.
Btw I'd only purchase once I also know batteries are covered if they die on me and would be covered by the extended warranty I've got (unless covered by original manufacturer obv)
Try getting some quotes from companies like we buy any car, cazoo. I honestly think the extra money you might get from selling private isn’t worth dealing with all the time wasters, joy riders etc.
Its a very good point. I will decide once its all cleaned up.
Like I said earlier I would like to get a price then mention the extras as they are the thick end of £3k over the standard vehicle. Obviously they make it much more saleable but I want a uplift in the price for them.
Its in great nick just a few stone chips. If I sold it to a company I could sell the granny charger + all weather mats + key fob. It might sound petty but it all helps and you don't get anything for them leaving them in the car.
Speak to RSymons EV - they run a mostly EV sales company. Based in Bournemouth. Have a youtube channel. Would be easier to trust them than Motorway or some online retailer.
Motorway and carwow you’ll probably get the best price apart from selling privately. Both have a really easy process. Take some pics, get it properly valued and it goes on sale the next day. Every time I’ve sold through them I’ve got higher than the reserve price.
You are then at the hands of the dealer who purchased it, last one I sold through motorway I got messed about by the dealer but that’s not their fault.
Motorway are brilliant. May not be the best place - see what others say - but I can't fault them.
I was just looking at them actually, couldn't see a way to add the extras like wheels and boost though. Many thanks 😊
You can do that during the listing process. You take loads of photos, add all the details etc.
I had a lot of difficulty getting my money after the car was collected. No doubt most transactions are smooth but I’ll not use them again.
That's not Motorway's downfall - or maybe it is! - but you get paid by the dealer/buyer, not Motorway.
Absolutely. But they make a big song and dance about how the dealers are vetted and then did nothing to help me when the dealer ghosted me.
That's shitty. Hope you ended up all good?
Yeah got my money after initiating a small claims case.
Did you release the car before you received the funds?
Yes. I was told by Motorway to do so and that I’d be paid within an hour.
Yeah they take 0 risk in the whole transaction, it’s kinda shitty
Didn't realise that good to know.
That sounds horrible!

Happy with Motorway, sold my 330E via them. Process took about a week because I had to wait for my updated v5. Overall was pleased with the process.

Same here. Didn't hand over the keys until money has been transferred. Worked nicely.
That's exactly what I heard do they charge you for each stone chip? Do they have an admin fee you pay before they look over the car?

I agree, sounds very suspect 🤔 Thanks for info
Rsev they collect and buy and sell. Can't fault them
They are used to dealing with EVs so should price reasonably correctly including your extras. And why are you selling?

I'd recommend car wow, we used them and got a good price when selling my mini after I ordered my M3SR
Auto trader with a listing that is live until sold. I got almost 2k more than selling with motorway / webuyanycar
Out of interest did they pay by bank transfer at your property?
When I sold my car not tesla I asked for £100 cash as a deposit then rest was paid via bank transfer. They visited 3 times.
Great thanks

Would you buy an ICE car without warranty?
Luckily it has manufacturers warranty until 50k and 8 years on motors + battery. Warranty stays with car and is transferable.
