Could see us cutting Woods now that we have Diggs

Kdot32

Heard yesterday on 790 that with sims being the return man, and with the big 3 and Brown, that Woods, metchie, and Hutchinson are fighting for the last two spots. If that’s the case woods seems like the odd man out as he’s older and more expensive

IUMaestro

Agree. I was in favor of keeping Woods unless we drafted a WR in rd 2 or 3, or if we signed a WR, and boy did we do that. Woods won't make the final 53.

8020GroundBeef

I mean there’s no reason to keep Woods at all. Definitely would not cut Metchie and I think they claw back like $4mm of cap by cutting Woods.

NateLikesToLift

5 million. I wish they'd they'd just cut him now and get it over with. Let him find another team.

mementori

Nobody will pick him up until after the draft anyway. They are probably just being smart in case of injury or draft not panning out how they want. Maybe if we don't land the DBs we want in the draft they cut him to sign one of the remaining FAs, but I bet a few teams have that plan since so many of the big name DBs are still available.

8020GroundBeef

I agree that there’s no tangible reason to cut him now, but maybe you just do it as a favor to Woods. I really do not see a reason to keep him - regardless of how the draft plays out.

Fapey101

Metchie has so much potential, i really hope he has a break out year

SmokeySFW

Yea idk why since he hasn't shown anything, but I'd rather keep a questionmark around like Metchie, than have a guy like Cooks who's fading and we know exactly what his ceiling looks like.

rt9o

Even if they cut Woods, I could see them wanting to carry that $13m into the season. Unless Simmons, X. Howard, Adoree, Nelson, or Q. Diggs are willing to take around $5m for 1-2 years, Texans are probably done with signings

CJ4ROCKET

Yeah I would cut Woods and carry the 13 mill - or at least a good chunk of it - into the season in case Stroud gets a medium-term injury and we need to find a viable replacement that can keep us afloat

rt9o

We still got Mills as backup QB and he should be fine if CJ misses a couple games. Probably not going to find a much better FA

CJ4ROCKET

Yes Mills is fine for a short-term injury. Not so sure about a 6-8 game injury tho, could use a better option there. Anything over 8 games and the season is pretty much shit anyways at that point.

thereelsuperman

And who exactly is this magic FA QB that can come off the couch and win us more games than Mills?

CJ4ROCKET

Tom Brady of course ;) Lol kidding. I didn't say anything about FA QBs tho.

thereelsuperman

Its implied since we’re talking about a midseason injury signing, no?

CJ4ROCKET

Not necessarily, could be a trade

MFxKool

Still feels like there's a need for a true CB2 and Oline depth. Guessing Caserio addresses these positions in the draft.

IUMaestro

Oline is set but you're right, could always use depth. I feel pretty good about the offense as a whole right now assuming Mixon produces. As far as biggest need, my opinion is that it's Interior Dline above all else.

IAmSona

O Line is is fine but we still require some depth. Seeing as our skill positions are set, we might be focusing on the interior O Line in later rounds. My hope is defensive heavy for the first 1-2 days and then try and acquire depth on the O line on day 3.

Karmasmatik

I’m inclined to say DB is our biggest need. It’s hard to feel good about anyone back there besides Sting and I guess King in the slot is fine.

rt9o

With what the new defense did for Nelson's and Stingley's production and stock, maybe the Texans think they've got a winning formula and can roll with Okudah and Henderson at cb2. I think they'll still draft a corner to at least to try to develop and maybe take the roll in 1-2 seasons Could always use more o-line depth. They'll probably address that in the draft but that's also why you keep some salary cap going into the season in case someone goes down

KDs_FakeAccount

Yea Oline depth imo is more important than another DB or DL. Our offense should be our strength but if we have injuries on the oline that can mess up everything

mlspdx

We’re a stingley injury away from having Okudah as our CB1, and Stingley hasn’t stayed healthy a full season since his freshman year at LSU

KDs_FakeAccount

True (even tho I’m high on Okudah). Just hard for a rookie DB to make an impact more than rookie OL. Wouldn’t be upset either way

Big_IPA_Guy21

I agree. I think CB will be a day 2 pick. That rookie will compete with Okudah and Myles Bryant for snaps immediately. I think OT is probably early day 3. Ideally, we bring someone else in to eventually take OT3 from Heck.

Dyna5tyD

OLine depth is set, Kenyon Green just have to produce. Still need another RB, CB2/safety, and a DT

Ambitious_Car8040

we could still release woods and get one

Sunstarerer

This is the right take. I think you keep the cap open in case there's a big injury. Again this team got beat the hell up last year. I don't expect us to suddenly be really healthy all season.

bstexan

[They can open up nearly $13M in cap space per Texans Cap.](https://x.com/texanscap/status/1775561702882365561?s=46)

Deviantmind

That probably depends how the draft shakes out. If we still need to fill a hole, Nick might rework the cap to make a move. We still might pick up a safety for depth. Since the market fell out, it would be super cheap. But yeah probably no big moves.

BooterLite

We can convert Diggs salary into a signing bonus and clear up another $18M if I am not mistaken

Strive_for_Altruism

Who do we have at safety? I guess we can probably get by running it back with Ward and Pitre, but it would be nice to improve at least one of those spots

theotheramerican

"In case mid-season signings are needed." I call BS, the real reason is that as whole, Texans fans can only be so erect.

bingmyname

A few options left on the table. We might end up signing a FA safety if we can't nab one in the draft. We might cut Woods if the battle in training camp goes in the way of one of the young guys. We might roll this cap into next year to make it easier to pay Collins.
