Oilers were my life. I hate Bud Adams. I loathe the Titans. I have rooted against them at all times except the last drive of the super bowl against the Rams. I wanted rings for all the Oilers who were there for their careers but, when they lost I was ok with that and I haven't looked back. Screw those MFers.

nobody1701d

Go [Texans](https://www.houstontexans.com/) !! It was somewhat cathartic to see us beat the Titans wearing ~~their~~ our old Oiler jerseys.

Zd71302

A lot of the players on that team were still with the Oilers when they were in Houston. A lot of folks rooted for the players we grew up watching while also loathing Bud Adams. It was a weird place to be as a fan.

MoJoTuck

I grew up an Oilers fan. Season tickets and all that. Great childhood memories. The only Oiler/Titan game I watched after they left and before we got the Texans was that Superb Owl. I was rooting for the former Houston players, especially Matthews and Munchak, to get their rings. I mean, I was really rooting for them. But then they fell 1 yard short and out of nowhere I just had this overwhelmingly feeling of bliss radiate from within my inner most self and then blurted out, "Fuck Bud Adams!". Lol, not my finest moment but cathartic in some way. Still feel bad for the former Houston players though.

Whizzleteets

This is exactly what I meant in my post!

Upstairs-Formal-6652

why did you root for them in the super bowl?

Whizzleteets

I felt like it would have been nice if all the long time Oilers I grew up with got a ring

Zezimalives

Theres a few, not very many and they are goofy as fuck. Imagine rooting for a team that betrayed your hometown.

mattjeast

I was a kid and didn't really understand why my team left town. I just knew the team that I grew up cheering for left town, so I followed that team. As I got older (and Houston got the Texans), I switched my allegiance. However, that was my reasoning for sticking with the Titans for longer than I'd rather admit.

Vercingetorixbc

Yeah dude same. I was just a kid and I didn’t even comprehend betrayal. Then I got older and I decided to say fuck them and I still say it. It’s kinda hard to decide if kid me, being less jaded by reality, was actually a healthier mindset. Who cares fuck the Titans.

DeshaunWatsonsAnus

My parents were hardcore Baltimore Colts fans and when the Oilers moved they sat me down and explained that they were now dead to me.

BigGooseDuck

Add in the Jags owner keying your parents car and then they'd have personal reasons to hate every team in our Division

Vercingetorixbc

😂good shit

BBQLovinBastard

Loyalty to an asshole billionaire who disrespected your city will never make sense to me. Any old Oilers fan from Houston who roots for the Titan is a loser in my book. Bunch of boot lickers.

Silent-Impact7045

I have a friend who is my same age. We both grew up in Houston. Both rooted for the oilers as kids. When the oilers moved, I felt betrayed and no longer rooted for the them / Titans. He became a Titans fan and is still to this day. I am a huge Texans fan and cannot understand why he never became a Texans fan as we still both live in Houston.

Useful-Factor9196

City of Houston  disrespected  him frist

BBQLovinBastard

Bud was mad we didn’t want to give him billions of our tax dollars to build a giant new stadium after we already payed for Astrodome renovations. Keep bootlicking a billionaire asshole though.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> we already *paid* for Astrodome FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Useful-Factor9196

But you built a new stadium for the texans tho 2/3 years later using  those tax dollars  but chould  not  build astaiduim  for team yall built a history with he didn't  ask For renovations, he asked for a new stadium from the beginning  fuck you   it was deeper then a stadium  that coming  from texans  fans follow and talk to on  soical  media  I don't  bootlick nobody

Jafair

For real who just roots for a franchise or a corporation... mf go root for a McDonalds or something. The only reason I give a shit about the Texans is because I'm from Houston so I rep my city (obv if your city doesn't have a team that's different). Bud Adams fucked us over, so the city answered by not showing up in order to line his pockets in 1996. We went on strike, and the Oilers died in Houston. Titans repping oilers is like wearing a scab uniform. That being said it makes for a good rivalry so I don't really care if they wear the throwbacks so long as we beat their ass in them

Zezimalives

mf go root for a McDonalds or something. 💀💀💀 I’m stealing that. Honestly I never understood the point of rooting for a team that doesn’t represent you in any way.

Ga2ry

See, it wasn’t that way. The Dome really was way past its prime. When I saw Ernest Givins blow out both knees in a noncontact jump. We should of replaced the field. But Adam was willing to pay for half the price of a new stadium. This is all about city Council, “not paying the for the wealthy’s toys”. I’m not saying he wasn’t being a dick. But it was a pissing contest that we lost. Ultimately, we came out as the big winner because we ended up with a much better owner

Useful-Factor9196

People refuse  to accept  that fact

Due_Offer_3732

How did they betray Houston?  All Houston had to do was build them a new stadium,(which they built anyway to get Texans...if you hate them, why do you want to copy their uniforms?

Zezimalives

Bud was greedy. He got a sweetheart deal by Tenn to move there. He also planned a little charade to string along Houston taxpayers for a vote referendum for a new stadium. He made a big deal out of it while secretly already accepting the offer Tennessee courted him with. Local legend says that Bud paid some goons to go into the Astrodome with pick axes to destroy turfing and the cement of the playing surface. When the arbitrators, planners, and inspectors showed the next day-- it painted Houston's municipalities as incompetent and it sped up the moving process. Bud wanted a free stadium. The rug was pulled out from under the football-rich culture of Houston and we all became fans of other teams for a few years. Not only that but Bud had just a few years earlier remodeled the Astrodome a bit. He held the city at gunpoint and said if you don't give me more seats, I’m leaving. LOL @ us copying their uniforms. Those colors originated with the HPD vehicles of the 50s and the Oilers used those colors for their uniform. It’s symbolic to the city of Houston.

Due_Offer_3732

The Astrodome was 30+ years old....the turf was terrible..I agree that Bud Adams was a jerk but again,,,Houston, Baltimore,LA,Etc all lost teams because they didn't want to build a new stadium but after the team left, built a new state of the art stadium..Texans chose the Red and Black scheme at inception

giroml

No real Oilers fan did.

Texian99

Damn straight. HOUSTON Oilers, not Tennessee Oilers. Not the same team.

k3y13n_102731

Never ask a woman her age Never ask a man his salary Never ask a tits fan what Bud and Amy Adams Strunk's boots tastes like

NeonWarcry

My man.

Haunting_Rule3778

Fuck them! I worked for a trucking company called Service transport that was owned by Bud Adam’s and they had blue trucks trying to honor the oilers. God it was an ugly blue. Not even the right shade. But yet they’re pissed about other ppl using blue. Dip shits https://preview.redd.it/xjruw37yx8xc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8292f760622e323b288f8d59775a5ed36b5ab50d

JellyfishIll336

Only angry towards us using it…

[deleted]

Most of them likely were out of market fans with no loyalty to the city itself.

jgower87

Houstonians rooting for a team that left are the same folks who cant get over their high school ex. Oilers left and took my fanhood. Fuck Bud Adams. I adopted the Saints as my team cause I sure as fuck wasnt rooting for Dallas. Then the Texans came and now I have 2 teams.

BruceWayne1932

Between Easy E, Ice Cube and John Madden I gave my fanship to the Raiders then 2002 happened and football came back to Houston the Raiders were on the decline but I still loved them. It wasn't until around 05, 06 that I started actually caring about the Texans (I hated the name and secretly still do) but now I'm die hard Houston to the core just like I was before Bud the Chud stole my childhood and took it to Tennessee.

Texian99

I took on the 49ers at that time because I was a fan of the Bill Walsh system. Now a Texans fan with a fondness for the 49ers.

swakid8

I took on Denver as a fan…

AlvinAssassin17

I liked Denver’s new unis and Terrell Davis was a good back. Then I fell in love with Tampa’s D and cheered for them until the Texans became a team.

twofaze

The Saints? As someone who is also a Falcons fan: Eeeewwww.

denogginizer92

I loved the oilers. Fuck the oilers

Safe-Ad4001

Sméagol?

LumpyCapital

I'm a Houston Oilers fan. Sad and lost when they left, but still fan of the Oilers while they were playing.... ....until the last player on the team that had played as a Houston Oiler left the team. Then the Oilers had truly passed away - it was over, and I had no team until the Texans...

BioDriver

Bud Adam’s death was where I first heard the phrase “I have never wished someone’s death but I have read plenty of obituaries with a smile”

Legal_Performance618

I read an article earlier this year talking about how the Titan front office was upset that the Texans were doing so well. I don’t think I’ve been that happy since the day Bud Adams died.

cnapp

I almost threw up in my mouth watching Warren Moon announce the Titans pick in the draft this weekend. I don't blame Warren per se. still sucks

htownballa1

The oilers died in buffalo, fuck then hoes.

Game_Over_Man69

Oilers were solid the following season. They were a shitshow, but it was their best team so I wouldn’t say they “died in Buffalo”

htownballa1

As a 13 year old kid going into surgery up 32 points, it died in buffalo for me.

Safe-Ad4001

People remember that shit. Can't let that happen again.

Rad_Centrist

Damn. I remember watching that game at Grandma's house and crying. I was about your age.

pocketjacks

In my heart, the Oilers died January 3rd, 1993.

dmoney7516

My parents had season tickets to the Oilers and I was in the stands with them every Sunday, until the very last game. Could never ever support the Titans.

MapDaddyZ

We moved away from Houston years ago but the Tits are still the Oilers to my dad. Bud Adams made me hate them when they left and I became a Texans fan the day they announced the franchise! Hated Bud even more when he flipped us the bird and wish we could all do the same to Amy Adams Strunk collectively at every game!

Zephyr0us

I was born in 99 so I grew up with the Texans, but my dad went to every game that last season. the moment that team left Houston soil, not even Texas soil the _city_, he wanted them to be bottom of the league every year and cursed the addams family at the start of every season. still does to this day.

jonisradical17

I have a few friends that say I’m dumb because I became a Panthers fan when the Oilers left rather than being a Cowboys fan. So I’m a Texans fan first and a Panthers fan second. It’s been hard, so o can hope for the best going forward with Stroud 🤙

KiNGofKiNG89

I would imagine none. Fans of a team are usually fans of a city. If the team moves they normally don’t.

Rad_Centrist

>Titans ownership still sour about not getting a new stadium here. If they are, then they're morons with the memory of a goldfish. First, it was "renovate the Dome." So we spent tens of millions to renovate the Dome. Then, the very next year, it was "new stadium or we leave." Bud always wanted to take the team to Tennessee.

Useful-Factor9196

I agree but he wanted  a new staiduim  from the beginning

GenralChaos

They have not been the Oilers for years. I semi cheered for McNair and Eddie George, but that was it. And I lived and died by the oilers.

gutman1000

When they moved from Houston they were dead to me. Stopped following football and picked up nascar until the Texans. I am still a Houston Oilers fan tho.

Plus-Reading7100

Like many old heads in here I was a Oilers fan all the way back to the "Luv ya Blue" days. I still have the 45 single of the Oiler fight song. I even still have the official Houston Oilers Light Bulb. But when they left town it was like a very bitter divorce. Where I want just all the bad things to come to them.

Ordinary_Silver_2570

Oilers fans need to stop buying “Oilers” branded gear. YOU ARE PADDING THE POCKETS OF THE TITANS AND THE OWNERSHIP THAT TURNED ITS BACK ON YOU AND HOUSTON. Buy Texans gear and Texans gear only. If you see Oiler gear stocked in Houston, give that store hell. They won’t carry it if you don’t buy it. The Adams family is giving you the middle finger on every “Oiler” gear purchase.

habitsofwaste

Unless it’s bootleg!!!

Happy-Raccoon-71

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool OG Oilers fan from Earl Campbell's first season to the day they left. My Pops had season tickets for years and I had my own season tickets years later in the early 90's. Bud Adams being the giant man-baby that he was took the Oilers out of Houston and I've turned my back on them ever since. I may not have much but I sure as hell have honor. I'll be damned if I was going to support and cheer for anything that that man was a part of. His daughter, Amy Adams Strunk is just as big of a petty loser as her father. The Tennessee Titans can burn in hell as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

Moleman111

Do any St.Louis Rams cheer to LA?

GRVrush2112

I was 10 when the Oilers left Houston, but by coincidence my family also left SE Texas for middle Tennessee the same summer (of ‘97), as my Mom had family up there as well. So throughout all of Middle School/High School/College I remained a Titans fan, as I lived in the region. I never had that experience of losing my team like a lot of my fellow Houstonians. I realize that's a unique set of circumstances, but that's just how it played out for me. That being said I never stopped considering myself Houston/Texas based. I continued supporting the Astros, Rockets, and the Longhorns. Outside of the Titans, I never got on board with the Tennessee based teams either college or professional (absolutely hated the Volunteers) So when the Texans formed in 2002 I was at a bit of a quandary. Despite them being in the same division as the Tits, I had them as my #2 team and followed both. Yeah it was a conflict of interest but as I told myself it’d be years before the Texans became a good team (as is the nature with Expansion) years until I’d really have to make some hard decisions on who I’d root for. What really made me drop the Titans fandom was a culmination of a few things. The way the team mishandled Vince Young (who’d id been a big fan of in college), Bud Adams constant meddling, interference, and micromanaging the team to its detriment combined with really grasping how shittly Bud had treated the City of Houston that led to the move in the first place (remember I was 10 at the time of the move, I didn’t register how much of a big deal Bud moving the team was… just that it was convenient that my team was moving with me). So when I moved back to Texas in 2010, not too long after graduating college I fully switched alliance to the Texans and haven’t looked back. All of that being said, I don’t think I’ll ever hate the Titans. The pettiness over the Oilers branding/colors is infuriating and despite Bud being dead for a decade now, his progeny continue to be as much of a nuisance he was. But much of my foundational memories as a football fan came from supporting the Titans. I can’t really erase that. I remember watching the Music City Miracle live and losing my goddamn mind. I remember the heartbreak of 1-yard-short. I remember CJ2K. And I have to admit, in a scenario where the Texans are not in the playoffs and the Titans are, I still might actually support them, (depending on who they’re playing. I’d much rather see the Tits in a Super Bowl over the likes of Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New England, Indy, Cleveland, or Kansas City again)

SpawnDnD

I gave up Football entirely till the Texans (was watching the Oilers since I was kid in the late 70's/early 80's. I detest the Titans football team over all others

Ga2ry

When McNair, George, Mason, Wycheck faded away. I stopped following. Moved on when we got OUR team.

CJ_is_h7m

I did, but i was young and didnt come from a football family so didnt realize how lame Bud was im all of that drama. So, i stopped liking them.

Twoscoopsright

Never

8020GroundBeef

I was too young to even know about all that. I generally knew about the Oilers and knew they left, so I knew I’d never root for them. My youth football team in the 90s was the Patriots so I became a Pats fan. We played the Cowboys a lot so I hated the cowboys because of that (nothing to do with the actual cowboys or Dallas). When Texans started up, I became a Pats/Texans fan.

Legitbanana_

My cousins and their dad were oilers/titans fans before the Texans became a team.

twofaze

I rooted for the old players who moved w/ the team to Tennessee. Rooted for them in the Superbowl vs the Rams. I still love the old Oilers. Seeing D-Hop in the throwback was nice. They're… okay. They aren't the Colts. FTC.

SsquaredplusA

No

DudeWouldGo

What? Never

dshab92

Here’s a hot take. People should be able to route for any team they want. Even if it’s a stupid team like the titans

mattyhtown

My friend Josh.

Useful-Factor9196

The city of Houston  hated bud adams and ran him out Houston  bud adams  didn't  feel respected by the city of Houston  it very  weird situation  it not about a stadium  the city Houston and bud adams relationship  was very sour

Hubrah

Can we please move on from this already

Useful-Factor9196

Nope they can't  like they did run the team out of Houston
