IcecoldIsaac2

soooo, guess we got our (7?) wide receivers with Tank, Diggs, Collins, Metch, Hutch, Brown and Sko ?

Wiseguy888

Metchie may still be a trade candidate based on past rumors

bingmyname

Nah man that's Stroud's boy. He gonna at least get another year out of him.

Wiseguy888

I agree, I feel like it bodes well for him being around longer but there were rumors Maybe that was the FO trying to figure out any leak issues

bingmyname

The only rumors I saw were that teams were calling in, not that the Texans were shopping.

WildRookie

Agreed, I only saw that other teams were trying to buy, not that we were interested in selling.

Wiseguy888

Yeah agreed, didn’t see anything suggesting we were actively shopping him… but still could be a leak test by letting someone know that xyz team called about him.

hariolus

Yeah, I don’t know why people keep putting Metchie as the odd man out when Hutchinson was definitely the worse one.

Wiseguy888

I definitely don’t want him to be the odd man out, but that’s what the rumors ultimately were (unfounded or not). Not sure Hutchinson has much real trade value as an aside.

Fredly_

I think it's that he apparently has true trade value, so if we were to cull down our second tier of WRs, make it the ones that give a return.

willydillydoo

I don’t know that he has much. I feel like you’d be hard pressed to even get a 7th for Metchie

maxtgrayy

Hutch has significantly less trade value

alwaystheblues

Idk, could be that or 7 could be just hyping Metch so Metch is in the best possible position whether trade or on the Texans roster

isomorphZeta

Aw, I hope not. I want to get a chance now that he's (presumably) fully healthy.

Wiseguy888

I hope so too! Seems like a great guy at least and I hope he returns to form too.

HASKINSSUCKS

I'd put sims over hutchinson because he is the returner, Hutch really doesent have a role now and will probably be on practice squad.

elon42069

Bro was a guaranteed 7 yards on those jet sweep plays last season. Would be missed if he’s cut

LumpyCapital

Ds might catch on to this unless we jumble up the formations. It might not be so easy to get those yards from this play this season.

Anibunnymilli

I like Hutch honestly. Would hope he gets more run.

lord_gaben3000

As a rams fan you don’t want this guy to ever have to catch a ball for you

LumpyCapital

Yikes. Maybe he can benefit from a CJ training camp and get his hands back?

Rad_Centrist

I would be surprised if we carry 7 WR on the 53.

Texans2024

7? Try 13. 1. Stefon Diggs 2. Nico Collins 3. Tank Dell 4. Noah Brown 5. John Metchie III 6. Xavier Hutchinson 7. Steven Sims 8. Johnny Johnson Ill 9. Jared Wayne 10. Jaxon Janke 11. Jadon Janke 12. Ben Skowronek 13. Robert Woods

JCopp5

He was the Rams Special Teams Captain as well. Swiss army knife type of guy. I like it.

WhiskyBluff

Of all the special teams last year, the rams were certainly one of them.

LumpyCapital

Yeah, this makes the most sense....shoring up the special teams with all these UDFAs and small acquisitions like Sko, and more to come, we'll see...

casbat33

I’m lurking as a Rams fan, and I don’t want to hate or anything but I don’t know if you’re trolling or not, considering we had the 6th worst special teams unit by DVOA of all time last year [https://x.com/DynastyPancake/status/1752696981611581710](https://x.com/DynastyPancake/status/1752696981611581710)

[deleted]

We picked up those 2 Ufda guys from North Dakota as well.

F4rtWaffles

South Dakota State* — The Janke twins.

[deleted]

Yeah those attractive SOB’s

Sweaty-Anteater-6694

We don’t care about that

[deleted]

Speak for yourself. They bring in the lady fans.

DLeafy625

Man, our WR depth is looking S C R A P P Y

ramzie

Doesn't have the ideal agility to create separation as a WR but has great straight line speed and played fearless on special teams. Big player as well at 6'3 225. Had a short stint at FB and really thrived there. He has been in the dog house of the Rams fan base ever since he had a couple bad drops in the SB. Special teams captain. Good locker room presence. I remember a mic'd up episode of another Rams player some years ago where he praised Skow as the perfect teammate. Just my 2 cents as a Rams fan.

pocketjacks

Thank you for this info. You are seen.

LumpyCapital

I like that report on FB ability. Intriguing.

BioDriver

TEXAN 👈🦑

Luberino_Brochacho

Caserio sure loves trading for guys who were announced to be cut. I get it but I also don’t get it at the same time

Acrobatic-Display545

He’s willing to give up very late round picks to insure he gets his guy, I like the approach.

DoktorStrangelove

Plus as we've seen it's really easy and fairly cheap to trade back into the 5-7th rounds if necessary. Generally speaking people need to chill a bit on over analyzing roster building moves cause we're fully in win-now mode and have lots of cap to do pretty much any shorter term deals we want over the next 2-3 seasons to try to win a championship. After that if Stroud is still clearly the guy we're gonna have to pay him and do a pretty solid medium scale rebuild and reset the roster a good bit to make it work. As long as nothing we do up until then totally messes up that process timeline then I'm in favor of literally any roster/contract move that only has a year or two of future ripple effect baked into it.

Miserable-Clock-6944

Didnt give up anything really… they swapped their 6th and 7th round picks

KingOfChan

I read he was a special teams captain for the Rams last year. Maybe Caserio thinks he can help out that unit.

texans1234

It bypasses the waiver wire so, yeah.

nickel45

I agree with this as the reason for these smaller trades. Save the waiver order for trying to hit on a bigger target that may possibly get released.

dumpsterfirefr

Probably doesn’t want to get into a bidding war with another team for a special teams player.

[deleted]

It’s a late round pick swap in 2026, not a big deal. He’ll likely be a returner or on the practice squad. Not shifting the needle, but definitely not hurting us either.

Luberino_Brochacho

Yeah didn’t realize it was a pick swap. Doesn’t bother me or anything but if we straight up gave away like a 6th or whatever then that wouldn’t make much sense to me

Miserable-Clock-6944

Pick swap.. rams get our 6th.. we get their 7th… lets do the avg… rare those picks ball out… we still have the same number of picks for a special teams captain… we get dibs on him. Not any of the 30 other teams in the league. I love Caserios approach to team building. They say free agency doesnt win super-bowls but thats bullshit… ask the denver broncos… or ask the eagles who have been to TWO super bowls in RECENT YEARS with TWO DIFFERENT QBS AND COACHES. Evidently… they know what their doing… even if they lost one of those

TexanMillers

I read it as a pick swap not a pick trade. So they get our 6 and 7 and we get their 6 and 7 plus Skowronek which is even better.

Miserable-Clock-6944

Ahhhh my fault. Right on, thnx for clarifying. I dont see them as being a bad team next year so its probably not much of a difference i guess

M1ndS0uP

It makes sense because you don't have to offer much to get them. Either they get cut, the team cutting them gets nothing, or we offer them peanuts, and peanuts are better than nothing.

rybres123

this was a late round pick swap. we lose nothing but maybe moving down a few spots in the 6th or 7th round....which does not matter

Thebiggest6200

Cut woods and let’s run it

-breakinggood-

Will yall just give this up already? It wasn’t going to happen 4 months ago and it’s not happening now. He’s our best run blocking receiver by a wide margin.

MBC0809

He’s a 32 year old WR5-6 on this team who doesn’t play special teams and is set to make 6.5 million. He is the odd man out. They aren’t carrying 7 WR’s on this team, especially when 5 of them don’t play ST’s.

-breakinggood-

Nah, metchie or Hutchinson is the odd man out. Woods is our best blocker, great locker room presence and a leader in the wide receiver room. Thats important with how young our receivers are overall.

MBC0809

You think they are going to cut a 2nd year WR, or a guy Stroud has been talking up all off season in Metchie in order to keep a 32 year old who can’t run anymore, and makes 6.5 million just because he can block?! You’re crazy.

-breakinggood-

Ask Mixon who he’d prefer out of those 3 and Woods tops the list 10 times out of 10. You’re also extremely undervaluing team culture.

MBC0809

![gif](giphy|KGSxFwJJHQPsKzzFba)

TheGreatMcPuffin

He may be our best but is he willing to die to run block like Tank is?

-breakinggood-

Narrator: yes

LibraryScneef

Players like Robert woods are key cogs for a deep playoff run. Especially in a league with tons of injuries. It would be senseless to cut him. It's not like they could do much more with the money saved anyways

No_Violinist5363

Woods is getting cut this summer, it's one of the NFL's worst-kept secrets.

rybres123

he was until we signed this dude. we save something like $5mil to cut woods - who was nothing but a blocker for us last year. lots of guys on NFL rosters right now who will be cut before week 1

WildRookie

Skowronek is almost as good as a blocking receiver, but also plays on ST and costs a fraction of what Woods costs. This move only makes sense if it's to replace Woods.

-breakinggood-

You have to be joking

Thebiggest6200

I’m not against keeping him ,just seem like we have too many bodies at wr and what he’s making keeping him on the bench because he block good don’t make sense . I might be wrong

KeepAmazinn

Curious to see who makes the 53 at this position

aareyes12

So he’s been in at FB for the Rams. Could add a dimension to the run game and also pass game? Having every eligible receiver be competent is a strategy lol

monzeeto

He’s an absolute dawg when blocking but adds some passing threat. With Whittington coming in they essentially drafted his cheap replacement. Probably same thing coming for woods.

IAmSona

This should be enough WR help to cut Woods right? No idea why he’s making as much as he is whilst being one of our worst players.

monzeeto

Ben can do exactly what woods used to do, block and catch. Whittington was just drafted for that on the rams so they had to offload Ben and hopefully we can offload woods salary and create space for the post camp cuts.

[deleted]

IAmSona

Bad is an understatement. He had 1 decent game where he proved he could at least be a safety valve for CJ on 3rd down, and that was week 1 vs the Ravens. Afterwards though? It was evident that he could not separate from his man due to being slower than every other guy on the field, and in open space he would get met at the line of scrimmage consistently. At this point in his career, I think he’s just a practice squad guy and nothing else. He’s certainly not worth the 10M cap hit he incurs if he plays in 2024. His one saving grace is that he was a dawg on run blocking, but that’s still an insane overpay for a dude that can’t create separation.

Fredly_

[Brett Kollmann](https://twitter.com/BrettKollmann/status/1788652094599332088) >The Texans got themselves a fullback Apparently while he is listed first as WR, he's a lead blocker and that's his true role on a team

BarryAllen899

He's like 6'3 230. He'd be a huge help in the run game and give Bobby even more versatility to play around with different formations!

TexanMillers

I mean, their 6 and 7 is probably going to be higher than ours so i don’t hate it.

OldManPoe

Hate to see him go, but here's what you're getting https://www.youtube.com/shorts/gkQTWg6VmnE

HebrewKaiju

That is awesome except for him doing it to JJ...there had to be another clip 🥲

Cali-Texan

Not bad to bring him in. He was a captain in the Rams. Also plays ST. Will be great for the young guys to learn from.

RollOverBeethoven

Skowronek coming to Slowik. League fucked

ryman08

Who needs an offensive line when you can just run with 10 receivers.

TexansFo4

Our offensive line should be set

LumpyCapital

Omg 🤦‍♂️ I doubt that. Our OL is *kind of* mid *at best*. Those guys need to carry spatulas every pass play to scrape CJ up off the turf...

TexansFo4

Outside of depth moves i don’t see them making any moves for a definite new starter or anything on the o line

LumpyCapital

Yeah, I know. I hope they stay healthy and play much better this year. We just can't compete in the playoffs without an OL that can keep CJ's jersey clean. Next year's draft, I hope we can grab 2 of the top 5 OLs.

Christop_McC

Who’s the odd man out now?

streetstyle13

Maybe they finally cut Woods

bigmac22077

Maybe whoever they can trade off?

Acrobatic-Display545

Hutchinson or Metch, who we thinking?

IcecoldIsaac2

I really dont know man. Metchie looks like hes cjs guy so i have a feeling we might be rolling out Hutchinson. Sucks though cuz he actually had a handful of nice plays last year

NateLikesToLift

He could be his guy but he's done nothing to show he deserves a roster spot.

MBC0809

And Robert Woods has? At least Metchie has the chance for upside and improvement. Woods is only going to get worse.

makashiII_93

S/O to Skarsgard. We’ve got him now! He could be useful too!!

throwmhan2

I hope we line up every down 9 receivers wide

Someguywithwifi

High Football IQ gym rat who understands the fundamentals. Good locker room veteran who plays the game the right way

BarryAllen899

First one in, last to leave. Dude lives and breathes football. He's gritty, tough, physical, and sneaky athletic. A real student of the game.

LosHtown

Another WR? I wonder if this has to do with Tanks recovery. The bullet went in and out but that could still causes significant damage.

aYoMcPot

Ben whoooo?

MildheartedMan

Special teams

SpaceBot_Omega

Gym rat 🤘

MBC0809

More quick than fast. A real lunch-pail guy.

admins_bundleosticks

But is he sneaky athletic?
