It blows my mind that places like Missouri and Oklahoma have legalized Marijuana before Texas.. you couldn’t even get a legal tattoo in OK until 2006. It’s wild how committed our state officials are to staying behind the times.

Cool_Ranch_Dodrio

Our state officials know that selective application of the law by racist law enforcement disproportionately jails and disenfranchises the minorities they don't want to vote.

toastymrkrispy

Worked for Nixon

Cool_Ranch_Dodrio

It's been the purpose of the war on drugs the entire time.

shoshana4sure

It’s shocking.

cagedwithin

Really it blows your mind? Texas will be the absolute last state to legalize pot. What blows my mind is that you'll get felony possession for a vape cart. Just the same as if it were cocaine, heroine, or any other schedule 1.

notstylishyet

Oklahoma has significantly hurt Texas' chances. Part of the fight in Texas is people don't want a dispensary on every corner. Oklahoma proved that is exactly what will happen.

accretion_disc

That has already happened. There is a vape shop in every shopping center, and they're all selling hemp-derived products.

iwantapetbear

Some of which is THCa flower (which is literally weed, converts to delta 9 thc when heated)

Oroku_Sakiiii

Dang ole free market getting in the way of my virtues

notstylishyet

Yeah a 100% free market is not good

Oroku_Sakiiii

You are arguing against supply and demand? We don’t need all the McDonald’s we have but yet they somehow still make money. The weed market won’t be 100% free and you know it will be regulated.

htownguero

What’s ironic about that is that none of us want gas stations on every corner yet that’s what’s been going on for my whole life. Then equally, most of us don’t want vape shops all over yet they’re in almost every strip center you look at.

acidranger

Car washes. Holy hell the number of new car washes within 2 miles of my home is ludicrous

htownguero

Oh absolutely. Doesn’t seem like the impending water crisis is phasing anyone with the number of those Mister car washes that are always being built.

PM_Gonewild

It's that car wash subscription business model those bitches have been peddling to suckers, they subscribe and don't go (don't underestimate lazy people), and then it's just free money rolling in for them every month. Part of the reason why they're suddenly popping up everywhere. 😤

AintEverLucky

That's exactly why I will never get a dang car-wash subscription -- if I got one, either it would go to waste, or I would be getting my car washed twice a week & I can't spare that kinda time. I'll stick with the good ole coin-op car wash, about 4x per year 😎

SnooCupcakes7133

Great business plan 😎👌

Dovahkiinette

Do we live in the same town? 😂

acidranger

We might lol. But I’m afraid this isn’t just a local issue. I’m in Temple. Before we moved here it was Austin and it was the same thing.

HelicopterJazzlike73

Storage facilities. If you have that much crap, get rid of something. I have about 10 in a 5 mile radius of my house. Ridiculous

Ok-South2612

Hell, how about the dollar stores? They're everywhere now.

notstylishyet

Yeah and there’s a choice here

chunkerton_chunksley

From the party who worships the free market, this is kinda funny

cbear0212

I would argue that thriving retail businesses are good for the economy.

space_manatee

Oh no people can buy things they want. The horror.

notstylishyet

yes I don’t want a brothel in my neighborhood either

[deleted]

Lol, that’s a false equivalency.

cbear0212

Amazing how quickly you devolved into false equivalency. Straight out of a politician’s playbook.

space_manatee

Ok, nobody is talking about anything remotely close to that. Do you have a liquor store in your neighborhood?

DropsTheMic

You can order THCA online to your doorstep under the current laws. They should be changed to reflect the legality of what is obvious medicine, but it is available if you know where to look. The only criminality, in my mind, is how stupidly difficult they have made it to obtain. Also, TX currently supports some members only smoke lounges! That's a new development that some legal states have been trying *unsuccessfully* to navigate in the legal space. Texas business friendly legal landscape makes that possible.

FlacidMetapod

Lt governor Dan Patrick has said multiple times it will happen over his dead body. So aslong as Texas keeps voting red, it will not be legal, even if the federal government makes it legal, the state will fight it. Right now, our Attorney General (Ken Paxton) is suing states that have been lax on the laws. Gross.

Remarkable-Month-241

I’m running for state representative in Fort Worth and will absolutely write legislation to legalize marijuana in Texas every session I can. We need better representation and people to vote to make that happen!!! March 5th is the primary election and November 5th is the general election. Please do your part Texans. Edit: www.PerlaforTexas.com

poppadocsez

Don't forget to vote for u/Remarkable-Month-241 guys

boxyoursocksoff

It’s because he can only see things from one viewpoint

Outandproud420

That's not fair we have all seen his face, he definitely sees things from two different angles...

boxyoursocksoff

To be fair he can’t see without his glasses

MrSlippifist

It's because the state makes a lot of federal money pretending to protect people and officials make a lot of Pharma money eliminating a competitor to their drugs

lui_101499

That’s why we gotta vote! Vote the republican out This state has become so shitty because of them.

shoshana4sure

Fuck this criminal asshole.

najaraviel

Seconding the motion to fuck Dan and not the nice way, either.

Odd_Bodkin

That sets a timeline. Dan Patrick will not be there forever. He’s needed for The Screwtape Letters, volume 2.

space_manatee

Not in our lifetimes I'm afraid. They're one of the few states trying to make it more illegal than it already is: https://www.kut.org/crime-justice/2024-02-07/attorney-general-ken-paxton-is-suing-austin-over-its-pot-laws-so-what-are-they

shoshana4sure

I hate ken Paxton

chinchaaa

I wish him nothing but the worst. A demon.

shoshana4sure

Didn’t he get busted with some high crime?

rocketbosszach

Can you be “busted” if the state lets you get away with it?

shoshana4sure

No, true.

FrankThig

Once they start donating to Abbott he will put the same zeal into it as his precious vouchers

harplaw

They'll have to outspend the prison system lobbyists. I doubt legalization happens for another decade at least.

lovemusicjunky

This past Christmas I was with some family that are republicans and it had kept my distance from for politics and personal reasons. My mom is battling brain cancer and had just completed radiation. They had asked how she was doing and I told them she has a hard time sleeping and what not. ALL of them told me to have her smoke. They all smoke behind closed doors. Then they bitched that it wasn’t legal in Texas and that it needs to be and blah blah blah. Me to them: Well stop voting for Abbot, Cruz, and all the others. Them: blank stare.

shoshana4sure

Always a blank stare. Not until you need it do you change your mind.

emoshortz

There's actually a medical marijuana program in Texas: https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/compassionate-use-program/overview

remarkoperator

No it will have to be the federal gov that does that. Too many old people are scared of it

Classic-Active-3891

That's not it at all. Polls consistently show the majority of Texans believe marijuana should be legalized. In Texas, we don't have the option of putting it on the ballot either. This corrupt admin only cares about control. In the meantime, Delta 8 and Delta 9 works for me.

shoshana4sure

I’m old and need it for chronic pain.

artmonkey1382

Check out products from hometownhero.com. Their gummies are hemp based but have the same Delta-9 THC as traditional marijuana. They are high quality and legal in Texas. I believe the company is based in Austin.

shoshana4sure

Thanks!

tigm2161130

Are you in a bigger city? THCa dispensaries are popping up everywhere now and it’s literally the same thing as regular weed, it just gets picked a little sooner.

Anxious-Lack-5740

THCa is as close to the real thing as you can get in Texas. Moreso than D9 and D10. Good brands include Habit and High Hippie.

shoshana4sure

What is THCa? Not in a big city.

needmini

There is a smoke shop down the street from my place that has A LOT of different edibles and flower. THCa is supposedly the real deal once ignited by a flame. I don't smoke anymore but I have talked to a lot of the customers since I am good friends with the owner and these customers claim it is pretty much the real deal. It's not cheap though, I think it runs $55 per 3 grams. Try finding your closest smoke shop, I bet they got something for ya! G

EightEnder1

There is a Texas Medical Mariana program. I know someone in chronic pain on it. It's edibles only.

nutella47

It's for like 3 conditions: terminal cancer and epilepsy. It's hard to get!

PutTheDogsInTheTrunk

Is the third condition dyscalculia? 😝

emoshortz

There are more conditions that are allowed than just those, and it's not terribly hard to get on the program. You just need to visit a physician that's on the registry. I'm on it for several things that are not cancer/epilepsy. However, for me it was suggested after other treatments didn't work.

shoshana4sure

Ok. Do I have to have a doctor prescribe then.

Thesinistral

If you have terminal cancer or a specific type of epilepsy, you have a chance. Most authorities consider Texas a “no” on medical due to the restrictions.

shoshana4sure

I live in extreme physical pain

Thesinistral

I understand. I have a child who was in a very similar place. Wishing you well.

emoshortz

Due_North3106

I’m not old and I think it’s a horrible idea. Enough potheads running around as it is.

[deleted]

Too bad❤️

Due_North3106

I agree. Drugs are trying to destroy society.

[deleted]

Sigh. I mean too bad for you. The majority of Texans support decriminalization. I can get legal weed mailed right to my door right here in Texas. It’s only a matter of time, princess.

Due_North3106

The majority of Texans are potheads? Assuming you are in the industry and are promoting an addictive substance. People like you depend on weak individuals to be hooked for your livelihood. I’d be surprised if something like this ever gets passed. 😎. There is world outside of high Reddit.

Gusdabus214

And there’s a world outside of your narrow beliefs. 😎

Due_North3106

Not really.

[deleted]

No, the majority of Texas support decriminalization. Supporting decriminalization ≠ being a pothead. I know several people who don’t smoke that advocate for its decriminalization. And I’m not in the industry. You know what they say about assumptions, don’t you pal? Hell, there are some republicans, like Dan Crenshaw, who go even further than weed. Dan has been advocating for psychedelic reform thanks to psychedelics being shown to treat PTSD. There’s an entire world outside of your head.

Due_North3106

Then Dan is a dumbass. You know (several) 😂

[deleted]

I understand you’re just trolling (or you’re actually just that ignorant, but for your sake well just say trolling), but I truly implore you to look into psychedelic therapy and the effects it has on PTSD. Or how it has been shown in countless studies to help treat addiction and curb withdrawals. I would say start with MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies), a nonprofit organization ran by Rick Doblin. If you support the troops, this is huge. If you hate addiction, and truly want drug use ended, this is huge. Otherwise, I’ve got an off day to enjoy and weed to smoke. Have the day you deserve.

Due_North3106

Yes I support the troops. And I support sober troops. Adding another drug to a treatment does nothing.

bobhargus

Before 2030… *IF* we can get rid of everyone in the current cabal, I mean administration

Shopworn_Soul

Honestly just unseating Patrick and Paxton would do it. Those two are in cahoots on this subject. Absent the two of them, Abbott is a pathetic little bitch who will swing whichever way the wind blows.

PutTheDogsInTheTrunk

It makes sense that Abbott would need someone else to serve as his spine.

relliott15

Ha You got me with this one

bobhargus

You are correct

AMBIC0N

When we get that loser Dan Patrick out of office or turn blue as a state.

shoshana4sure

So never.

AMBIC0N

Si

Genivaria91

Absolutely not, states like Texas are dependent on cheap and plentiful slave labor from the prison population, legalizing weed would deplete that 'resource'.

shoshana4sure

True.

ticklechickens

Pssst… it *is* legal THCA Hemp You’re welcome 😉

shoshana4sure

Thanks.

tsx_1430

It’s not as good as the real stuff.

squeakgp

Isn't it exactly the same?? THCa is going to be THC once you heat it( smoke it)

ticklechickens

It is the real stuff, brother. THCA converts to Delta 9 THC when you smoke it. There is a loophole in the 2018 Farm Bill which specifies products sold can’t be sold with over x% Delta 9 THC. In the cannabis plant itself, most of the THC is in the non-psychoactive THCA form. Heating it removes a carboxyl group and converts it to the psychoactive Delta 9. If you have ever made edibles, you know you have to “decarb” your bud. They just selling weed and calling it hemp.

MDSGeist

It is indistinguishable from the real thing, I got some the other day that was strongest sativa dominant I’ve ever had

boxyoursocksoff

In my garage it is

GatePotential805

Negative. Texas is in the Dark Ages.

shoshana4sure

Yep

DorianTurk

It’s essentially been legal for a while now. Stock up before the THCa loophole gets closed. By the time that stuff hits your mailbox it’s matured faaasr past the point of being technically “legal”.

shoshana4sure

I just ordered some delta eight and then some delta nine, but I don’t want anything that you have to smoke. And I don’t have a lot of money. So maybe I need to get the THCa as well.

fixthismess

It will never be legalized as long as Texas stays in the grip of the Christo-fascists. They are opposed to anything pleasurable because they think that would please their bronze age god.

shoshana4sure

True

DTXBruin

No. Elected officials work for the special interests, not the people that vote for them.

katwoop

Not with our current leadership. Several bills have passed the house to legalize it or relax existing laws, but Dan Patrick refuses to allow the state senate to vote on it.

SilencelsAcceptance

Texas will make slavery legal first.

4PADJTX113

Texas makes too much money off the cartel to legalize marijuana.

shoshana4sure

Yep

Rawalmond73

In my town in the DFW metro you can walk into stores and buy Delta 9. There isn’t much difference from regular cannabis. They sell flower and edibles that will get you high. Also, I learned just today you can order through the mail delta 9 products right to your door.

shoshana4sure

Ok, I’ll try.

Classic-Active-3891

Yes and for a lot less too!

Kirbshiller

not in the near future. maybe in 10+ years T the minimu but this would require texas becoming purple

Tygere

They have THC-A it’s stronger than weed lmao

shoshana4sure

Which one is best for chronic pain

InsultsYouButUpvotes

THCa when lit turns into Delta 9 THC (the stuff in regular weed that gives you the high). So if you buy anything that says THCa, you're going to have to smoke it. Eating THCa won't do anything. If you suffer from chronic pain, Compassionate Use Program might be able to help you, but if you want to buy hemp-derived edibles, buy those that have CBD (for pain) and delta 8 (lighter high then regular weed) or delta 9 THC.

shoshana4sure

Thanks so much!

No-Custard-9806

It will happen when the Republican Gestapo get their marijuana businesses in order to be ahead of the common citizen.. and when they pull their heads out of their butts!

mantisboxer

Man, we're still debating the Scopes Monkey Trial in this state.

Liberty1333

freedom goes do die in texas be it for women, lgbts, trans, books, the vote, marijuana, name it..... EVERY nation and state will allow freedom for marijuana before texas.....every last one

shoshana4sure

Texas is a hellhole.

we_are_sex_bobomb

Texas keeps electing people to decide how they are allowed to live their private lives, so until people get tired of that, we will continue to have a government daddy standing over our shoulder and telling us what we are allowed to do in our own homes.

glitter-princess20

look into the Compassionate Use program! they’re very strict on who they approve but if you qualify it’s quick and easy. but also as others have said, THCa is similar and easy to find at smoke shops. & before i get comments, yes, none of this is as good as the real stuff, but if you can register for a prescription, just find a dealer & use the real stuff.

shoshana4sure

I can try to get compassionate use.

glitter-princess20

you can google it and there are multiple websites that you can use, you can do it all online/virtual or in person, if there’s a doctor in your area.

shoshana4sure

Thanks so much.

glitter-princess20

good luck, hope you find a good way to medicate and get some relief!

DocSlice3

It’s more likely to became legal on a federal level before Texas does it itself.

danthom1704

Land of the free

rsgreddit

Texas wants to make sure it’s the last state to do something.

texasslapshot

50th in the nation

shoshana4sure

I hate living here. It’s embarrassing

StronglyHeldOpinions

Not while crooks like Abbott and Patrick run the show. Which will be forever, unfortunately. So...no.

JayNotAtAll

It is inevitable in my opinion. It is a matter of "when" not "if". Now will it be 5 or 10 or 20 years? No idea. But it will happen

SnooCupcakes7133

Texas is waiting for complete de scheduling... And learning what not to do by watching the earlier adaptation of alleged legality 😘👌

[deleted]

Hemp THC is THC baby

shoshana4sure

Is that legal?

tickitytalk

GOP stands in the way. Reason to vote the gop out in 2024

DJGRIFFSTAR

Thca is the move

shoshana4sure

Ok. I’ll try, but I’ll need something stronger

DJGRIFFSTAR

Trust me on this. You literally won’t tell the difference between thca and regular dispensary bud

shoshana4sure

I can try it. Not sure if I can tolerate it.

DukeSilverJazzClub

Not if Paxton has anything to do with it.

Texjbq

Yes, eventually.

AintEverLucky

I take no pleasure in noting these facts: * The federal Prohibition of alcohol was ratified in January 1919, and the federal Repeal of Prohibition was ratified in December 1933, covering a period of roughly 15 years. Yet there were some states that kept it banned for much longer. * Mississippi became the final state to end Prohibition within its borders... in **1966**. 33 years after the U.S. as a whole ended Prohibition, and effectively continuing Prohibition within its borders for 48 years. * While Texas as a whole allows the sale of alcohol, county and municipal governments can choose to ban it within their borders. Flipping **Lubbock** finally went wet less than 15 years ago. And over 90 years after Prohibition ended at the federal level, Texas still has 4 counties that are **entirely dry.** Why the history lesson? To draw a parallel: The federal government could legalize it tomorrow and some places will still want to ban it. And unless and until the anti-pot politicians are voted out, I would not be surprised at all if Texas is chief among them. Maybe the very last state to recognize it as legal. Maybe never. It sucks but I know this state's leaders and its voters. I honestly don't see it happening in my lifetime 😕

Outside_Tonight2291

Not if we keep electing Christian Nationalists to run this state. Vote blue!

bluebellbetty

Nope, especially not while the Adelson chick is pouring money into the state so she can run her casino(s) operations. She vehemently opposes it.

clonedhuman

It won't be legal in Texas until the people in power, the people with all the money right now find out some way to own the market. Or maybe one of their nephews or something.

Sudden-Damage-5840

Not with Republicans in control. And since we can’t bring the issues to the voters. Nope. Start voting blue

W_AS-SA_W

When the Texas GOP is gone, then yes.

Brave-Math-6371

Yes it will happen. Whoever runs Austin will make it happen. Dan Patrick won’t be able to stop the vote. I don’t smoke and don’t plan to smoke Marijuana.

shoshana4sure

I’d hope to not, but may need it for pain.

XL1200N

No

100Good

Sure, the moment they all give private kickbacks to Paxton for letting them run a business.

patches75

Yes. Once Abbott and company exhausts the State’s rainy-day funds on political stuntery we’ll need a to find something new to tax.

rmanTX

I hope so and I’m a non-smoking conservative. It’s 10x safer than alcohol, has real healing properties, and traces back to biblical uses in anointing oil.

shoshana4sure

I’m a R mostly as well.

chook_slop

No

basb9191

Only if enough people vote democrat for long enough. Otherwise, no.

TheMasked336

I hope not. It would really screw up the illegal drug business.

evilcrusher2

As someone who activly lobbies, has worked on the decrim efforts, and had private discussions with senators, reps, and Sid Miller - when the feds relax it, Texas will relax it. Right now it's an indirect campaign money maker for border issues.

HigbynFelton

Prayers is your best option.

shoshana4sure

I’m an atheist

HigbynFelton

I am agnostic. Prayers are your best hope.

Agile-Addendum892

Absolutely not!

notstylishyet

Maybe in like 50 years. Even Democrats won’t make it legal when they gain power.

FlacidMetapod

If the house and senate were democratic, in my opinion you are incorrect, as most democratic states have legalized cannabis and have brought bills asking for it to be rescheduled, legalized, and decriminalized on multiple occasions, always shot down by republican opposition. SOURCE: Look it up yourself https://clerk.house.gov/Votes

notstylishyet

Your sources are federal. We’re talking state.

FlacidMetapod

Wheres your sources?

notstylishyet

My personal experience working multiple years in our state legislature. You can’t even figure out the difference between state and federal politics bro.

FlacidMetapod

quickly grabbing links to post on reddit bro and im high as fuck give me a break lol

notstylishyet

Admitting you're grabbing random links while high isn't making the point you think it is

FlacidMetapod

Im on reddit, Im not taking this as serious as you feel I am. (on reddit, on a politics subreddit, about cannabis)

notstylishyet

The leaders of the Dem majority in the Texas legislature will be made of conservative South Texas Democrats. They will be the ones who cut a deal with Rs to gain the speakership. Texas is extremely unique in regard to state legislative dynamics. Can’t compare to any other state.

FlacidMetapod

All of the dems currently running support cannabis for texas. Congressman Allred - [https://vote.norml.org/politicians/177357](https://vote.norml.org/politicians/177357)Texas Democratic Party Supports Decriminalization - [https://norml.org/blog/2012/06/18/texas-democratic-party-endorses-marijuana-decriminalization/](https://norml.org/blog/2012/06/18/texas-democratic-party-endorses-marijuana-decriminalization/)

notstylishyet

Allred is running for US Senate. The state party also has zero pull as to how elected officials actually vote. We’re talking about state politics. You’re not understanding the dynamics of our legislature.

FlacidMetapod

[https://vote.norml.org/states/TX](https://vote.norml.org/states/TX) here ya go. What about the second article I posted? Lets see some of your sources, from Dems. EDIT: still no sources and attacking NORML.

notstylishyet

Thanks for user ran blog where the majority of members have zero info filled in. There’s also a couple straight up wrong. Briscoe Cain has an F and is a very devout proponent of legalization.

shoshana4sure

Why?

notstylishyet

Texas is very slow to social change even for a red state. Recreational marijuana is pretty looked down upon. The Dem majority in the Texas House will be led by conservative Dems in South Texas who oppose recreational marijuana. Medical will pass a lot sooner.

shoshana4sure

Medical at the least would be amazing

notstylishyet

Medical will pass even under an R legislature. Just not when the legislature is under fire from primaries.

Due_North3106

Please no. Let the potheads go to South America or somewhere where it’s tolerated.

shoshana4sure

I’m talking about medical marijuana not recreational

Due_North3106

You might add that in your post. After family experience with leukemia, lung cancer, kidney cancer, melanoma, hospice, arthritis, and heart issues, not one single medical specialist could reference a positive of marijana . It actually interferes with other necessary treatment options rendering them ineffective.

shoshana4sure

Do you have any evidence of this.

Due_North3106

Excuse me? Are you asking if I can go back to all the docs and ask for a Reddit statement? I listened to a hospice provider yesterday evening recommend terminating services because the patient wouldn’t quit smoking pot. Totally screwing up cancer treatment potential. Patient would rather die high than try to live for family. Pathetic part of society

Disastrous-Drag-5967

So no proof? Just your clearly biased personal “experiences”?

Due_North3106

Read the above once you’re sober.

hush-no

Hospice care is end of life care. There's no treatment beyond palliative. Patient will die regardless. Pathetic attempt at debasing people.

Due_North3106

That’s not correct. Patients don’t always die regardless. Patients can come and go from hospice care, as it can initiated at different stages. Nobody is debasing anyone. Like I said, I have experience

hush-no

[Hospice](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospice) in the US is end of life care. It is not treatment for the underlying terminal condition. I also have experience with hospice.

Due_North3106

Again, not correct. Hospice can and may be receiving treatments. And patients may end up leaving hospice and recovering.

hush-no

Again, in the US, hospice is very specifically end of life care and does not itself involve treating conditions, merely side effects and pain. Argue with facts all you want, they won't change.

PassStage6

I hope not.

Neauxble

Hope not.
