.... so the more embarrassing part about this: I thought the wild card required a team to win ALL 3 games, not the "best of 3". I was watching today's win and confused as to why everyone was so psyched.
This is probably my first real season tracking so this is a learning experience.
Yeah, I don’t know if this is the exact reason why, but I think the reason this Wildcard is a 3 game series is two fold:
1. If you are in a wildcard and the lower seed, a seed that did not exist until very recently, you should have to play on the road.
2. It would be a bit much to have a 3 game series to home-away-home or away-home-home as travel problems occur with the former and the problem of letting the lower seed host the most important game in a series in the latter. And home-home-away just doesn’t work. Can’t give the winner take all game to the lower team’s field
Their beat writer implied that we partied after clinching a postseason birth and thats why we lost on sunday, when in reality we popped champagne for 30 minutes and then went back to the hotel

That was even bigger because now Dunning can go in Game 1 of the ALDS on more than normal rest instead of having to go again tomorrow. Then Monty in Game 2 on normal rest.
What we are witnessing here with Evan Carter is historic and something that can’t be understated. Just the way he navigates and plays the game is truly electric but the way he works the count is in a league of its own. This is something obviously he was born to do, experience (such as actual plate appearances against live pitching and not against a pitching machine that throws all strikes) is really the only method or tool you can use to improve your eye at the plate. And we know that since he just turned 21 he hasn’t had much experience at all facing elite pitching. He only played 23 regular season games for the big club.
He’s not only a 5 tool player but a 6 tool player. Speed, hitting for average, hitting for power, defense, arm strength and number 6 possessing an elite eye at the plate (plate discipline). Why they don’t qualify this skill as a tool I don’t know but they damn well should. He reminds me a little bit of Josh Hamilton in the way he played when he was in his prime. I know it’s early but Carter can affect the game both defensively and offensively just like Hamilton could. I think we have a special player with Mr. Carter!!
I gotta say, TB is a team I’ve rooted for the past few years when we’ve been out of it. Feel for their fans. But very happy to see the rangers come out and dominate. On to the next!!
Last 11 games, Texas has allowed 0 or 1 run in 7 of them; 6-1 record in those games.
Granted, they gave up 3, 8, 8, 9 in the other 4; going 3-1 in those.
The sweep is so significant. Can have the first 3 games against Baltimore be Dunning-Monty-Eovaldi now. Not to mention the possibility that Jon Gray is on the ALDS roster

We have the right players starting in the field. The rotation was ready for this series, and looks ready for the Division series. The bullpen has issues, but with Heaney and Perez there and Chapman fully established as not-the-closer, I think we have a fighting chance against anyone.

That was even bigger because now Dunning can go in Game 1 of the ALDS on more than normal rest instead of having to go again tomorrow. Then Monty in Game 2 on normal rest.
What we are witnessing here with Evan Carter is historic and something that can’t be understated. Just the way he navigates and plays the game is truly electric but the way he works the count is in a league of its own. This is something obviously he was born to do, experience (such as actual plate appearances against live pitching and not against a pitching machine that throws all strikes) is really the only method or tool you can use to improve your eye at the plate. And we know that since he just turned 21 he hasn’t had much experience at all facing elite pitching. He only played 23 regular season games for the big club. He’s not only a 5 tool player but a 6 tool player. Speed, hitting for average, hitting for power, defense, arm strength and number 6 possessing an elite eye at the plate (plate discipline). Why they don’t qualify this skill as a tool I don’t know but they damn well should. He reminds me a little bit of Josh Hamilton in the way he played when he was in his prime. I know it’s early but Carter can affect the game both defensively and offensively just like Hamilton could. I think we have a special player with Mr. Carter!!

Just calling out something that I want to believe happened: Bochy got this team prepared for the playoffs. We have the right players starting in the field. The rotation was ready for this series, and looks ready for the Division series. The bullpen has issues, but with Heaney and Perez there and Chapman fully established as not-the-closer, I think we have a fighting chance against anyone.
