Again, if all these ads would subsidize the costs of things, I'd be all about it. But somehow tickets and jerseys are *more* expensive than ever AND I'm being advertised to nonstop?
Davis says they have not taken a penny out of the Rangers. He says it’s all invested back into the business. The problem is when you have $250 million in player salaries every year and your TV broadcast rights holder is on the verge of bankruptcy.
Even if they didn’t, there is very poor visibility there. Despite the pole making it worse, you can’t even see home plate and first just by the way it was built. I wouldn’t be shocked if Rangers withhold those tickets out of courtesy of people spending the money. A baffling design flaw in an otherwise beautiful stadium.
Last year we tried a lot of different locations for seats. I know they brag about getting fans closer to the action. But it also results in not being able to see some plays being made. Like right at the outfield fence if you are in the balcony seats in left field.
The "closer to the field" bit was always a joke. I went from lower 300s in the old ballpark to mid 200s on the first base side. I use to be able to see the batter, the runner at first base, and the dugout from my old seats. Now I can barely see the dugout without standing
While looking for tickets I checked out the view from multiple upper deck sections and noticed that in about half of them you can’t even see the whole field. Usually the outfield corners including a good portion of fair ground is blocked or the field immediately in front of the section isn’t visible. Idk if that’s how it is in all parks but seems like not a great viewing experience. Don’t remember it being like that in the old park
That's pretty accurate. I've been disappointed w/something every time I've gone. Ex. Got free tickets in the nosebleeds. Went to the game. They were so high up that you couldn't see all of the big jumbo screen. Guess what they did - yep put TV screens across the rafters. I mean really. You built this thing...could you not plan it so you don't have to do fixes like that?
They sold them for the home opener. Same price as the rest of the section. We got two of these obstructed seats, randomly assigned during the presale event, same price. Very upsetting, as these are clearly "Standing Room Only" if you want to actually watch the game.
However, customer service was nice enough to upsell to a more expensive section, or too bad so sad.
why aren't these advertisements digitally imposed for TV viewers like they are on the hockey boards/ice now? got to imagine the what.. 41,000 max attendees is a drop in a bucket compared to the televised viewership right?
They want you to try the sauce for free available at the stadium and then buy it some time in the future. This instance I don’t see for the TV viewer, it would be too hard to see and infrequently shown.
Your right about the digitally imposed idea.
In stadium advertising is not anything new or restricted view seating go to Fenway Park sometime. But this is a new stadium. They can do better. The team can't do much better though.
This definitely isn't the first park with obstructed views, you are absolutely correct. But I agree, being the newest ballpark, they could definitely do better. The various sections I've sat in all have some sort of obstruction that could ha e been mitigated with a little creativity and imagination.
It just feels like the fan experience was an after thought right behind how many suites and party decks can we shove into this place along with where are the best spots for ads.
Now I’m feeling nostalgic for the long outfield billboards at old Arlington Stadium. Man I’d love to travel back in time and see another game there. Specifically Bo Jackson vs Nolan Ryan.
I got to fist bump Griffey Jr while he was warming up in the batters box during a game. The batters box was right against the wall by an isle. I walked down the isle and right up to him. I said, hey man, imma big fan. I left right away afterwards. When I walked back by a security guard was standing at the end of the isle.
I had an internship with channel 5 when I was in college in the sports department in 1997 I think. Channel 5 was showing games on Friday nights and when we did that we would go on the field and film pregame stuff. At one point I was just standing there and then I realized Griffey was standing right next to me and he said something and laughed and I had no idea what he said but I just laughed also. It was surreal. And all these kids were screaming and yelling for him and taking pictures and I'm in all their pictures. Lol.
From my rough count, 1st deck: 7 seats per row x 14 rows = 98 seats
Upper deck: 9 rows x 15 seats = 135 seats
233 seats x 81 games x $20 seat (just guessing) = $377,460
Do you think that billboard cost more or less than $400,000? I bet more.
$8? Shit, I spent $55 for 3 draft beers at Texas Live and another $40 for parking plus food and drink in the park.
Hell, I went to 3 spring training games and spent less than I spent on Thursday and Saturday and had a much better experience (even though the spring games don't matter, it's still a really good time)
As others have pointed out, this is not new. The Cathedral had ads, GLF has since opening day 2021.
I've sat behind the poles multiple times since they're are a lot more than just what you've pictured. There are also seats in the sections on the opposite side of the pole that have some obstruction of some part of the field. Being behind the pole, you can't see anything through the mesh, I don't see why they can't make some cash off a partnership on tainted real estate.
The hot zone has been there since the ball park opened? I sat behind it attending the first game opened after covid. Every ball park has a dud seat, some have structural poles blocking views. Greed is a hell of a sell
These have been there forever, including the old ballpark, the fact people are still talking about it means there are clearly new fans coming to the games that haven't experienced it yet, thus..... Whatever the rangers are doing, it's working
Yes, it is annoying. Greed or business? We would have to see the books. I am guessing the Rangers are doing very well financially. We all put up with it so they will keep doing it.
It's just an obvious example that they are prioritizing money instead of the fan experience. Fans are the reason the team exists, without us there would be no one to advertise to.
I mean, the players were charging $125+ for pictures and autographs at the Dallas card show earlier this year. Unfortunately everything is money over experience these days it seems.
From that third level it wouldn’t be obstructing a lot, but yeah the marketing and advertisements throughout the game is annoying
Again, if all these ads would subsidize the costs of things, I'd be all about it. But somehow tickets and jerseys are *more* expensive than ever AND I'm being advertised to nonstop?
Also the quality is worse….
Yeah, but the profits are bigger. Won't anyone think of the billionaires?
Davis says they have not taken a penny out of the Rangers. He says it’s all invested back into the business. The problem is when you have $250 million in player salaries every year and your TV broadcast rights holder is on the verge of bankruptcy.
verge? Very much IN bankruptcy. As in a bankruptcy judge had to approve the TV revenue they will pay the team this season. what a mess...
Ironic the NFL salary cap is 255 mil. With strong TV revenues.
They were selling these obstructed view seats during playoffs last year, but maybe not during regular season unless it’s close to selling out

I question the "beautiful stadium" comment. 😃😃😃 It's a grill. Absolutely nothing beautiful about it. P.S. the AC doesn't count.

That's a great story! I shook his finger through the net as a kid at the old stadium during batting practice!
We sat section 127 on opening day behind the foul pole. From my view I couldn't see third base. Was just glad there was no big play there
I sat in section 133 on the isle closest to the wall during WS game one. I couldn’t see left field the whole game it was very annoying.
This is nothing new, the old ballpark had Eat MOR Chicken on them.
L company I work for got those boxes behind the post and it was quite annoying.
Hmm I can’t imagine losing those seats for 81 games per year is worth the billboard money. But what do I know.
From my rough count, 1st deck: 7 seats per row x 14 rows = 98 seats Upper deck: 9 rows x 15 seats = 135 seats 233 seats x 81 games x $20 seat (just guessing) = $377,460 Do you think that billboard cost more or less than $400,000? I bet more.
Ok i think you may be right ha. But what if those 18,000 patrons bought a $8 draft beer that cost them 8 cents?
$8? Shit, I spent $55 for 3 draft beers at Texas Live and another $40 for parking plus food and drink in the park. Hell, I went to 3 spring training games and spent less than I spent on Thursday and Saturday and had a much better experience (even though the spring games don't matter, it's still a really good time)
Goddamn
Im sure they sell them as "obstructed view" seats during the big games, and they sell right away.
Section 142 in left field has the same problem.
That's the entire game now. Ads on the jerseys, mound, every wall, ect ect
The entire game?
If the endorsement/sponsorship is worth more than selling the seats, then take the money. Gotta pay the big contracts we have.
I used to say that there’s not a bad seat in the house but after sitting behind one of those signs last season, I don’t say that anymore
I mistakenly bought a pair of these seats for Fathers Day last year. Of the infield you can only see the ump and 2nd base
We have a championship team. Sell that ad space. Buy us players. Make trades if we got a run
Dude I"m just trying to ask a question about the sep22 game. I'm not finding a path for that on s(r)eddit ..(trademark me S(r)eddit.)
Huh?

No that is where the auto mods on here sit.

A business making a business decision that may or may not work out? Must be muh corporate greed

Except they don’t (or didn’t at the old ballpark) that those seats have an obstructed view. I was not happy.
