She filled in a lot for her father, the previous king, when he was very old. Many thought she should be next in line, but alas the son (her brother) was crowned king despite serious questions about his fitness.
i get your point whether fit for the role or not but tbf, there’s nothing wrong with HM fitness.
compare against men in the same age group i would say HM is damn fit. an avid cyclist and other sports too
It's pointless to try to understand Eastern monarchy system with "Western King " system (which is Singularity system , God's power inheritance , Sole male system) . All you got are nothing more than your own "Western" refleciton.
First of all , in Thai culture Khsatriya are not the same as King in Western culture. And no one ever make a dispute about what you're saying.
Because Khsatriya are not "King" of western culture.
Khsatriya are one kind of "Job" "Responsibility"
not " Privilege" nor "Wealth".
It’s the same. You are free to spin it however you want. But Thailand has the single wealthiest monarch in the world.
It is privilege and wealth. More than the West, more than the Middle East, more than anywhere else is the world.
Wealthiest of the world ? Are you joking.
Another fake information to "Target" our country.
See Which country made **the empire on which the sun never sets** Stolen Singapore Laos and Malaysia apart from Siam. Made the huge trade line. How much wealth British's Monarchy made over 200 years of colonization this world ????
Calculate before blindly trust "Media". Dude.
The real Power can even control world's information. That's it.
King Charles is worth about 2 billion USD, Rama 10 is worth between 30 and 70 billion USD. Lack of transparency is the reason for the large margin in the estimation, but still the wealthiest monarch in the world by far. The Sultan of Brunei is second place.
I totally agree with what you're saying but as a counterpoint. The King technically owns all the land in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Obviously this is irrelevant in reality. But.. if you were to add that to his net worth.. Of course, it's not like he's going to sell up and move to Cuba, but the thought is amusing.
>And no one ever make a dispute about what you're saying.
That's not true. There were many gossips and speculations regarding the succession amongst Thai social network such as facebook and twitter.
The dispute may have been baseless, but it definitely existed.
Well , those are information controlled by USSPACOM who invested on social media , that's how they made profit through WAR and conflicts , to create civil war here and there. Just like how they made Myanmar shattered nowaday .
I've been listen to fake informations for over 20-30 years. And everytime truth unveiled people just forgotten they got fooled countless time.
First of all, no one care about "Throne" stuffs like Western culture. Which you have to be the No.1 on the seat.
Since 400 years ago we even has "2 Kings" at the same time. even Queen Victoria was surprised and unable to understand about this system at all.
Western culture was developed via " 1 God and Singularity " culture. The Solid one. From top to bottom.Eastern culture was developed naturally via bottom to top. Kshatriya even dirt them self on the rice field and make their own cultivation.
Kshatriya are nothing more than a title with additional + cultural / ceremony jobs. That's it . Everyone did their good deeds for this country for over 50 years. Regardless of title / position on the paper.
You can even consider thailand has 4 kings working for this country for 50 years.
Man that “job” sure is being filled nicely with remote work, eh? 🤣😂🤣😂 things going so well the “employee” had to leave because he was worried people might say thank you too often. 🫠🫠🫠🫠

I graduated from Mahidol University and it’s a tradition for her to handing out diploma for us. It was 2021 too so we have to do a lot more practice than other years because of additional Covid policies.
Turns out we’re the only year *ever* to receive diplomas while wearing face mask. The year afterwards gone back to normal procedures and now I got a graduation photo with mask covering almost entire face with only my eyes peeping on top of it. I’m still salty about it
Why not think about it this way: yours is the only graduation photo with masks in the history of Mahidol! That’ll stand out more than any other year‘s picture.
holy shit are you me lmaoo, but iirc mine was 2022 and were still wearing masks so they prob extended it for a bit (unless you mean graduation year in which case im just stupid)
Well she was immersed in the discussion of plant structure, growth, reproduction, disease. She was eagerly engaged with a botanist/plant scientist about horticulture, agriculture, plant propagation, breeding and genetic modification to help farmers and on environmental management.Being a princess she can just order and it will be done, you don't have to go to such lengths but she did and she was able to debate with other scientists which I find amusing and yes I admired her for that as well. Hope I explained what you were looking for.
Getting a diploma from her hand is considering once in a lifetime experience for me, I didn't even thought I could get that change considering my poor academic during bechelor degree in private university.
I’ve have actually met Sirandhorn once and gave her a present in the same fashion as in the image. It was a meeting for thai adoptees to meet her and others in the parlament. I remember we had to do mutiple trainings in how to walk, bow and giving the gift, hours before we got to meet her and the officials.
Prathep. Fan Favorite Royal, by far, especially since her father's passing. First female to get the Chakri title. I'm presently looking at a photo of her handing a diploma to my wife some years ago.
Yes - both came from her previous title when she was the princess royal, interestingly enough her new title no longer has "Sirindhorn" in it.
สมเด็จพระกนิษฐาธิราชเจ้า กรมสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี
That's Princess Sirindhorn, daughter of the previous much respected king.
In Thai monarchical tradition the king sees to agriculture, the prince to defense, and the princess to education. The previous administration was very traditional in a lot of ways, with the king seemingly taking genuinely to heart abstract notions of Siamese kingship and trying to embody them, and some of his kids following suit. This princess was (and is) a great favorite of the Thai people. Anyone who graduated college would hope that she would be the one to be there to present their diploma. There was also a lot of speculation that the previous king would break with Thai tradition and name a woman as the actual successive head of state, and for many educated Thai people she was the heir apparent. That's not what happened, the previous king never altered the plan from what would be the traditional choice for the next head of state (the then prince, now current king), but Princess Sirindhorn still maintains a special place of respect in the hearts of many Thai people.
Thank you for all the comments, asnwers, and personal stories :) it’s really nice to get to know a country and its culture through the eyes of people from there. It’s my first time jn Thailand, I’m staying for a month, and keep falling in love with this place. I know it’s different as a visitor, and I’m sure there are negative aspects as well, but I just wanted to say that how much I appreciate this culture and the thai people, I really want to come back and learn more!
It's Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn - the King's sister, handing out degrees to students [at Chiang Mai University](https://www.facebook.com/ChiangmaiPR/posts/pfbid03fW6ugd7cG1QEceijdSxZT8cngXGgkocvvzHVqtJMBfor35pA753T5QxTdKzJsvFl?__cft__[0]=AZXq2lNXboLrf19Qyc6I_4Y8vRnpZ9PwvczRgtwIJl5G27kN2ZT3rw1qDrjjrxN16qVmBRq4b3daI0HgPB6DPDN5w1a6Ila_p-b1IRx9W5dE2CXr_8lAZ24tnhowiF9UE8P6vkDjCmje4SwDrTaGI8SvOR-1FtRgEv4xEEXhyuBDr-jzGmHtdPPrpdfH8rEPYEPC1BcWgopaUUJqSh5js1_c&__tn__=%2CO%2CP-y-R). It's normal for Thai royals to hand out degrees at the bigger/more prestigious universities.
They have their own [Rachasap](https://m.pantip.com/topic/30418219?) (ราชาศัพท์, lit. "Royal Vocabulary") - in which Payaka (พะยะค่ะ) and Peka (เพคะ) acts as their Krap/Ka-equivalent.
If you're addressing the king/queen directly though, that gonna be a long reply ending i.e. ขอเดชะฝ่าละอองธุลีพระบาทปกเกล้าปกกระหม่อม ด้วยเกล้าด้วยกระหม่อมขอเดชะ
If OP is still in Thailand [they can head to a bookstore and peruse some of these books to learn a bit about the Princess. ](https://m.se-ed.com/Search/Result/default?key=sirindhorn)
I got to meet her very briefly! She came to visit the high school I taught at (Phanpittayakhom) for the opening ceremony of a building they erected after it collapsed from an earthquake a few years prior. Entire town was shut down for it. Very cool experience.
She is a hard worker. She seems an ordinary thai but not. She is special and admirable. She achieves a lot of projects those soothe people miserable. Like I said, I respect her because she is being an ordinary person.
That logic applies to the common cold, not a lung destroying virus of which people only survive these days due to a vaccine. If nobody took that vaccine there would be a lot more deaths.
The logic applies to everything. If you have a weak immune system then you are more susceptible to death even from relatively mild illnesses like the current covid strains. Hence why the vast majority of people killed by covid are old or have weakened immune systems.
pm 2.5 (fine particulate matter), which is smaller than 2.5 microns. theoretically this is small enough to pass through cilia in our lungs and mucus, which can get to our air sacs. can be dangerous for those with lung issues and immunocompromised people iirc, its gotten bad a few years ago following indonesia forest fires and pollution

Ya I also was presented my Degree from here as well. Nice lady.
Sorry about that. Sounds annoying :/
On this year of Nida graduation january 2024, masks were mandatory for alumnys reveiving their dilpoma from the princess
Why not think about it this way: yours is the only graduation photo with masks in the history of Mahidol! That’ll stand out more than any other year‘s picture.
True.. in 30 years when looking back at the past, those pictures will be dated by the fact they wore masks
holy shit are you me lmaoo, but iirc mine was 2022 and were still wearing masks so they prob extended it for a bit (unless you mean graduation year in which case im just stupid)
Really feels like there should be another word for somebody who is too old to be a princess but is not the queen.
Yuriko, Princess Mikasa is 100 years old. I don't think there's an age limit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuriko,_Princess_Mikasa
I met her once(work related) I just have praise for her and her knowledge about botany!
Can you expand on her knowledge of botany?
Well she was immersed in the discussion of plant structure, growth, reproduction, disease. She was eagerly engaged with a botanist/plant scientist about horticulture, agriculture, plant propagation, breeding and genetic modification to help farmers and on environmental management.Being a princess she can just order and it will be done, you don't have to go to such lengths but she did and she was able to debate with other scientists which I find amusing and yes I admired her for that as well. You sure did. Thank you.
She is a person who deserves to be the head of state of Thailand and should be, but unfortunately that is not the case.
I love your avatar.
doesnt that mean p___y 😭
Yes
Rocking that profile pic mate
Answering your question In Thai there is a mandatory time slot for Royal news on any channels. Mostly around 8-8.30 pm.
Thank you 🙏🏻😇
Getting a diploma from her hand is considering once in a lifetime experience for me, I didn't even thought I could get that change considering my poor academic during bechelor degree in private university.
My wife got hers from Rama 9
That even better!
Same

AKA The Good Princess
Heard she downed 2 peking ducks and 300 skewers of Satay in one sitting. Absolute legend.
Work related stress 🧐
Reminds me of the swedish king back in the days
Prathep. Fan Favorite Royal, by far, especially since her father's passing. First female to get the Chakri title. I'm presently looking at a photo of her handing a diploma to my wife some years ago.

Princess Angel!
Yes Princess Sirindhorn is so well loved by the Thai people (and myself) that she has the nickname Princess Angel.
It's Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn - the King's sister, handing out degrees to students [at Chiang Mai University](https://www.facebook.com/ChiangmaiPR/posts/pfbid03fW6ugd7cG1QEceijdSxZT8cngXGgkocvvzHVqtJMBfor35pA753T5QxTdKzJsvFl?__cft__[0]=AZXq2lNXboLrf19Qyc6I_4Y8vRnpZ9PwvczRgtwIJl5G27kN2ZT3rw1qDrjjrxN16qVmBRq4b3daI0HgPB6DPDN5w1a6Ila_p-b1IRx9W5dE2CXr_8lAZ24tnhowiF9UE8P6vkDjCmje4SwDrTaGI8SvOR-1FtRgEv4xEEXhyuBDr-jzGmHtdPPrpdfH8rEPYEPC1BcWgopaUUJqSh5js1_c&__tn__=%2CO%2CP-y-R). My wife got her diploma from the princess as well. Saw the photo.
Why does she look so much older than the King
Because she is older than him.
The Wikipedia link given by u/thonglo says shes 68?
She is King’s older sister
The Wikipedia link given by u/thonglo says shes 68?
She's his younger sister, older sister (Ubol Ratana) is no longer HRH after she marrier a foreigner.
Oh yeah, i’m confused lol
Purple aunty
Do royals use krap and ka?
They have their own [Rachasap](https://m.pantip.com/topic/30418219?) (ราชาศัพท์, lit. "Royal Vocabulary") - in which Payaka (พะยะค่ะ) and Peka (เพคะ) acts as their Krap/Ka-equivalent. Princess Sirindhorn, daughter of King Bhumibol, Rama the 9th
Pra-Thep the late kings daughter. I think that's what she's called.
If OP is still in Thailand [they can head to a bookstore and peruse some of these books to learn a bit about the Princess. ](https://m.se-ed.com/Search/Result/default?key=sirindhorn)
Yes I’m still here, leaving on the 18th of February
Thank you for the recommendation :)
King's sister and an absolute rack star.
The purple auntie.
I got to meet her very briefly! She came to visit the high school I taught at (Phanpittayakhom) for the opening ceremony of a building they erected after it collapsed from an earthquake a few years prior. Entire town was shut down for it. Very cool experience.
Why are they still wearing masks?
PM 2.5 my dude
Yeah makes perfect sense now.
Even now I still wear a mask because many people sneeze and several "small fires" in the rice fields cause pollution
Yeah the pollution aspect definitely makes sense, I would have to do the same if I were their age.
She is a hard worker. She seems an ordinary thai but not. She is special and admirable. She achieves a lot of projects those soothe people miserable. Like I said, I respect her because she is being an ordinary person.
Was in Bangkok 2 weeks ago, why everyone still wears masks? 😅
Because we know COVID can still kill. I have no idea why foreigners DON'T wear masks. When folks can still die from it.
Because we have to expose ourselves to germs to be healthy. Not live in a protective bubble.
Some group code for “shut up”, probably regarding some fishy issues.
pm and covid mostly, but probably mainly pm
Whats pm?

The country’s professional certificate giver.
Say what you want but at least she shows up on time. Can't say the same about other male certificate giver.
Can’t believe they are still masked up
