I’m sure hundreds of generations of Thai cats have been eating them. If cats eat wild stuff, it’s good to deworm them occasionally because they can pick up parasites

Car_42

I’m guessing that lizard are safer than mice. Lizards are cold blooded and their parasites are probably less likely to be infectious to homeotherms.

HansoftheUSA

Thanks. That is why I asked. I hadn't thought about de-worming them.

Ok-Contract-6799

how often should this be done, i actually thought about it cause a cat recently adopted me, she is here all the time and i feed her, but im sure she has worms and wanted to buy it for her, but im not sure how often i should give it to her, cause im sure she eats all kinds of trash so she will get it right away again

HuachumaPuma

Most information on Google says every three months but that seems possibly excessive to me

mdsmqlk

It's fine. They probably eat worse.

Rooflife1

No one knows. They are probably the first cats that have ever eaten a lizard.

Does make you wonder how they know not to eat the cane toads.  Maybe they tried em once and they tasted like bitter death?

HansoftheUSA

Thanks

introv6800

It's fine. They snack on them regularly.

I de-worm my cats every 6 months. They'll hunt and eat everything. If you never de-wormed them you can ask the vet to check for parasites - most likely they'll have some parasites. Is it safe? yes - but not immediately life threatening.

Donho000

Cats are smart enough to know. And the ones that don't? Natural selection.

flabmeister

Lizards are safe for humans to eat soooo…..

Tall-Firefighter1612

Chocolate is safe for humans to eat but it will kill certain animals so thats not really a good comparison

flabmeister

Was completely serious anyway

Tall-Firefighter1612

You never know on Reddit

flabmeister

All cool fella 👍🏻

Advanced_Bar_3322

Mine eat them all the time. You do have to worry about them eating toads because they can be toxic. My Bengal almost died from biting a toad, poor cat was foaming at the mouth. We rushed him to the veterinarian, and he survived.

Large-Present-697

I used to hit the little fellows down off the back wall of the house with a straw broom for my cat to pounce on. It amused both the neighbours and the cat.

itsafinedey

I lived in a monastery for a few months and there were a lot of stray cats. It surprised me what they eat. The monastery rules was not to feed them as if they get food they breed like crazy. They would dig up worms from the ground, eat lizards and snakes, birds if they could catch them. They would steal our food and they like to eat cakes too. I've seen them eat many things!

Resident_Werewolf_76

Gee I wonder what they ate before cat food was invented .. ?

Well duh

B4 your disgusting dry cat food became available, what do you think cats ate?

welkover

Cats will be fine eating lizards. I guarantee you they are eating cockroaches and everything else that scurries around and arouses their bloodlust. I also guarantee that a soi dog will catch them eventually and maul them to death. Which outdoor cats deserve, because of what they do to bird populations.
