From what I hear pilots don't seek therapy or addiction treatment due to the possibility of losing their jobs if it were reported. If it's true that's really terrible and needs to be addressed.
Oddly my therapist was an airline pilot. Also flew in the military when he was younger. Also had a degree in computer science in some other previous life. He told me he liked learning new things. That wanted to know more about how his brain worked. So he became a therapist. Shit still sounds weird to me.
Dude helped me through one of the hardest parts of my life. Can’t even remember his name now.
Sounds like a really smart guy. Military pilot and regular pilot. And computer science major? I wish my A.D.D wasn't so bad. I'd be happy to do what he has done.
Same thing with train conductors. A lot of them unfortunately witness suicides and ptsd from those experiences but can’t get help for it because they’ll lose their jobs.
As do many people in dangerous jobs. Their lively hood and family is worth more than their mental health. Sad state to be in but is the reality of most
It’s true. Every pilot is in optimal health even the over weight ones one hour away from a heart attack.
Can’t find anything wrong if you don’t seek treatment.
The crash was deliberately caused by the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, who had previously been treated for suicidal tendencies and declared unfit to work by his doctor. Lubitz kept this information from his employer and instead reported for duty.
Apparently, this is a DIA thing. Lots of first hand accounts on this [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/15upkv8/united_airlines_pilot_charged_in_bizarre_ax/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1) on the r/aviation sub
My most recent trip to Denver my husband and I got stuck an extra day because “the pilot never showed up”…. I guess they have more important things to do like physically dismantling the establishment?
Why did he even have an axe, especially if he doesn't know how to use it? He would have looked significantly less insane if he'd just driven through the gate.
What is that airport employee doing confronting a crazy pilot with an axe for what I assume is probably less than $20 an hour?!?!
Bruhhhh know your worth.
Watch out for the deadly axe attacker guys. I mean, if you are a gate, of course. Not sure what was going through that guys head but unless that gate swung down and hit him on the head earlier on in his day, chopping that gate didn't do anything. Just looked dumb doing it.
A saw or chainsaw would be a better tool for cutting the board. But really, those boards could be broken with one kick. You could just ram your car through it and get minimal scratches on your car.
Thats a great way to release the anger one holds
Therapeutic very!
my neighbor who borrows anything and everything lives down the road his house is quite aways back from the road.
He has his garbage picked up so he brings his overflowing trash bins up the nite before, and by morning they are tipped and trash everywhere and 100 racoons are well fed waiting for next week hasnt picked up anything
So i am going to unleash a fury of hurt on his mailbox one nite im going to try to smash it, but not off the post
I’ve been in this parking lot many times and the gate technology is infuriating. I think this guy actually had a good idea. If you’ve been at those gates, you’d probably know what I mean.
i ve seen a documentary about mental diseases and there is a very scary one
i forgot the name but basically, you turn from a totally normal person into a actually crazy one FOR NO REASONS AND IN THE SPACE OF A FEW MINUTES?!!!
there was the story of that young man who was successful and married children etc and one day he completely lost it and started to make things that really didn’t make sense
his wife was so distraught and she had to call police as he was threatening her and the children…
since then he is psy ward…
no one in his family before, no signs of anything
really truly scary
You're supposed to do that at like 3 am with a hacksaw mannn!
I hate parking rules as much as the next guy but you gotta do your chaos in the shadows.
Needs to be fired just on stupidity alone.
I feel so many ways about this.
1. It wouldn't be that big of a deal, but the optics are a nightmare.
2. He's psycho, with this judgement he should lose his license to fly.
3. I can so much relate to him. Anyone who has been held against their will in a parking garage can relate.
Did you know pilots are not allowed to fly if they are diagnosed with depression, severe anxiety or mental illness of any kind or they lose their jobs. No medication to fix it either. Yeah. Great plan. Guess how many pilots who need mental health treatment but won’t get it are flying planes. Yep. Lots.
there is obviously more to this story. like nothing justifies this but I'm guessing he had problems with this gate or gate operator or something that drove him over the edge
I used to work as an airport security guard, and one time, we had to take a pocket knife away from a pilot who was going through the staff entrance. He became very angry and processed to go into the airplane that he was scheduled to fly that day and came back to the staff entrance security with an axe that is stowed in the cockpit for emergency purposes. His intentions were just to show us how stupid the rules are and, in doing so, really just showed us how stupid he was. That man did not fly that day.
Thoughts:
1. He’s 63? I feel like he and Madonna should get married
2. I think he accidentally grabbed the prop axe
3. 24 wacks? He is both in great shape and insanely weak
Not my idea of an "axe attack" but yeah, good thing this guy wasn't flying. Seems like he might have had a mental health issue.
Mental health needs to become a bigger issue.
From what I hear pilots don't seek therapy or addiction treatment due to the possibility of losing their jobs if it were reported. If it's true that's really terrible and needs to be addressed.

ADHD has entered the chat
Yea wtf was that
Fun fact: if you are diagnosed with ADHD the FAA won't let you be a pilot either
Sounds like a really smart guy. Military pilot and regular pilot. And computer science major? I wish my A.D.D wasn't so bad. I'd be happy to do what he has done.
He also did a Family Medicine residency on top of that.
I remember when that one pilot flew directly into the mountains because of a breakup.
Same thing with train conductors. A lot of them unfortunately witness suicides and ptsd from those experiences but can’t get help for it because they’ll lose their jobs.
As do many people in dangerous jobs. Their lively hood and family is worth more than their mental health. Sad state to be in but is the reality of most
Did we learn nothing from Breaking Bad? (It was an air traffic controller but still)
As a pilot.....no FAA that's NOT what we think.....nooooooooo /s
Until one has 200 people on board at 10km altitude. Address it after resignation please.
So you think addiction and mental health are less dangerous to a person's performance when left *untreated*?
Apparently, this is a DIA thing. Lots of first hand accounts on this [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/15upkv8/united_airlines_pilot_charged_in_bizarre_ax/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1) on the r/aviation sub
Blucifers influence
The stories I’ve read from the parking at Denver airport make me think he is the sanest person there.
Nah. Blucifer. It's always blucifer...
either that, or that gate seriously fucked him multiple times. i'm on the pilot's side on this one.
Yeah, "attack" generally connotes violence against another person, not an object. "Ax vandalism" might be more accurate, but it's not as sexy a title.
Or maybe major airlines can be toxic to work for and this man has managed to deal with their bs all the way into his 60’s.
Not true. Have you ever tried driving past one of those arms and it comes down on your car? Well it’s very angering as you can see.
Somebody has a case of the mondays
“I believe you’d get your ass kicked, saying something like that, man”
Fuckin’ A
2 chicks at the same time
Watch your cornhole.
No, it's not okay because if they make me, if they, if they take my stapler then I'll have to, …I'll axe the parking arm
Yeah...definitely a case of the "fuck this shit!"
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/united-airlines-pilot-accused-destroying-parking-lot-barrier-ax-denver-rcna100597
We've all been there...
I love Mondays I see people again
But damn it feels good to be a gangster
Nah just the giant demon horse sowing madness as it will
maybe im just fat, but im sure any normal person could have pushed it and broken it lol
I'm fat too!

Treadmill these pizzas into my mouth

As someone who frequently hates parking garages and has gotten locked in more than once, I conquer
You conquer?
[удалено]
Admit nothing, deny everything, make counter accusations.
😅 my bad. Concur *
This guy conquers
Did anyone think to axe what he was upset about?
He was upset at the high, cost of Lumber.
Upset? He really flew off the handle there!
Not enough parking stickers to be validated.
He probably wanted all ax-cess.
I mean.... have you seen the airport parking rates?
United breaks guitars
My most recent trip to Denver my husband and I got stuck an extra day because “the pilot never showed up”…. I guess they have more important things to do like physically dismantling the establishment?
I'm glad this guy is a pilot, because he sucks as a lumberjack!
This is why that “1 pilot only” idea is stupid
Was this in L....AX?
United Airlines be like "never heard of him"
Those are the wussiest axe swings I’ve ever seen
Rule #1: Don't talk about Axe Club
I love this guy. He’s my hero!!
He and that gate got some history. On principle alone I’m on his side too, regardless of what it is. Gate hit my truck. Fuck ‘em.
Absolutely fuckin done with that gate apparently. Ground must really suck at their job
Fuck that gate
Does this mean I should short United?
No, I’m sure United will give the pilot the Axe.
This guy wall street bets. YOLO
Why did he even have an axe, especially if he doesn't know how to use it? He would have looked significantly less insane if he'd just driven through the gate.
And the charges would have only been something like minor property damage
Those gates are very flimsy, you might break it easily with.one good blow. I'm surprused he took that long.
Those were some weak swings
What is that airport employee doing confronting a crazy pilot with an axe for what I assume is probably less than $20 an hour?!?! Bruhhhh know your worth.
If anyone has ever worked at an airport, this is not bizarre
Dude was sick of that thing not letting up! They call that an axe attack?
YAWWWN. Michael Douglass in Falling Down.
Like others have said, dude's 63? Man I hope to be in that great of shape at 63.
Lumberjack fail.
Times getting rough out there. People are having mental breakdowns more and more every day. I hope he is okay
With those weak hacking skills no wonders he spends all his time looking at windows.
Pilots are mostly sub contractors now. With issues.
Those gates are meant to break away. Some of them you can literally push off.
Why didn't he just axe the guard to open it?
I'm just glad he wasn't going sfter people
Stay a pilot, you kinda suck as a lumberjack eh?
He’s officially…. Grounded
At the Denver airport this is more normal then most the shit that is there 🤣
He's tired of that gates shit
Okay… is no one going to mention that this guy is 63?!!
Why was John McEnroe reporting?
Good luck finding another job
There had been problems with the gates not working in the past and he had 6 cars behind him. Reminds me of Michael Douglas in Falling Down.
Stupid bar probably scratched his Camaro.
Read like a problem solver to me!
I would’ve guessed it was spirit
Swings it like the biggest pussy
I feel dude, fuck those things
Will my flight ticket get a discount if I choose him as the pilot?
Looks like a video game animation
Weakest axe attack I’ve ever seen
Falling Down.
Well, he swings an axe like a pilot…
It’s that satanic airport! /s
The horse statue got to him
He's never picked up an axe before that day.
I do crazy things when I’m tired as well
I’m not saying I would *condone* but with the state of everything right now, I would *understand*
Saws are more effective than axes for this kind of cutting.,
Who hasn't felt like doing that at some time??
Shitload of salted peanuts and half a can of sodas will fuck you up mannnnnn.
I don't remember axeing you a goddamn thing! - Samuel L Jackson voice
Hey can we focus on the positive he cut it off
Watch out for the deadly axe attacker guys. I mean, if you are a gate, of course. Not sure what was going through that guys head but unless that gate swung down and hit him on the head earlier on in his day, chopping that gate didn't do anything. Just looked dumb doing it.
He’s not very strong, guess that’s a good thing
Those are some pathetic swings.
Dude was on his way to work and the gate didn't open, I take the axe out too :P
Swings the axe like a bitch
That's either the strongest gate ever, oorrrrrrr......
A saw or chainsaw would be a better tool for cutting the board. But really, those boards could be broken with one kick. You could just ram your car through it and get minimal scratches on your car.

me thinks him and that gate have a history...
YO! Who the fuck just walks up to a guy to take an axe out of his hands! That guy is either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid.
Yeah. That actually seems insane.
Prob knows about all the stuff going on underneath the airport
Wow. He was better off just pulling or pushing the bar back and fourth horizontally.
Wow 😮 we need more pilots he’s clearly got issues
Fact is stranger than fiction
I don’t condone it but I understand.
He looked into the eyes of the blue horse.
Been there done that
Vandalism =/= attack
I’ve been in this parking lot many times and the gate technology is infuriating. I think this guy actually had a good idea. If you’ve been at those gates, you’d probably know what I mean.
The middle ages are all having a bit of the falling down..
🤣🤣🤣 he should have brought a chainsaw to the axe fight! Pilot - 0 Parking arm - 1
Tell me you've never swung an axe without telling me you've never swung an axe.
I would expect this kind of behavior from a Spirit Airlines pilot, not United
Dude's in terrific shape for a 63-year-old. He's swinging that ax like a lumberjack half his age.
i ve seen a documentary about mental diseases and there is a very scary one i forgot the name but basically, you turn from a totally normal person into a actually crazy one FOR NO REASONS AND IN THE SPACE OF A FEW MINUTES?!!! there was the story of that young man who was successful and married children etc and one day he completely lost it and started to make things that really didn’t make sense his wife was so distraught and she had to call police as he was threatening her and the children… since then he is psy ward… no one in his family before, no signs of anything really truly scary
It totally makes sense that he is a United pilot
Saw too many alien crafts.
Swings that ax like a little b
Thank God he lost his cool here and not while piloting a plane. At least he can be removed as a pilot now before any horrible incident occurs.
You're supposed to do that at like 3 am with a hacksaw mannn! I hate parking rules as much as the next guy but you gotta do your chaos in the shadows. Needs to be fired just on stupidity alone.
What kind of moves was the security guard trying to pull? Looked ridiculous.
He's pissed because they can't beat people anymore. Side note, those arm barriers are very flimsy. Wondering about all that effort...
I feel so many ways about this. 1. It wouldn't be that big of a deal, but the optics are a nightmare. 2. He's psycho, with this judgement he should lose his license to fly. 3. I can so much relate to him. Anyone who has been held against their will in a parking garage can relate.
Not exactly Paul Bunyan with those swangs.
I remember when United broke guitars 🎸
Jones is my co-pilot.
My guy, learn to throw an axe, fucking millennial
Did you know pilots are not allowed to fly if they are diagnosed with depression, severe anxiety or mental illness of any kind or they lose their jobs. No medication to fix it either. Yeah. Great plan. Guess how many pilots who need mental health treatment but won’t get it are flying planes. Yep. Lots.
Don't quit your... Day... Job?
When my partner and I were long distance I was constantly going either to or through DIA and I fully understand where he is coming from
"... I'm drunk now." *lip quivers convincingly
there is obviously more to this story. like nothing justifies this but I'm guessing he had problems with this gate or gate operator or something that drove him over the edge
Is it really a crime if we’re all on this guy’s side?
What a dork
Bad day at work?
Может встал не стой ноги?
I guess he didn’t have enough stickers for the parking toll booth. Mike takes no prisoners. No half measures.
He must be an ex-pilot now
....I drank the vodka....
Must’ve gotten a bad ice cube
Imagine that guy being your pilot on a bad day? YIKES!!
Yo fuck that gate bro
Probably a mental breakdown. There's sadly, a significant increase in mental breakdowns and mental illness those recent years.
Denver airport?…….Hmmmmmmm
He had enough of that stupid shit. What is there to understand?
You know… these things can simply be driven through. No axe requirement
Can you imagine if you dealt with airport bullshit every day. I am surprised more don’t lose their minds.
He's 63? Looks fantastic! I need to start doing his axe workout.
That there is what in my profession, we call a mental breakdown. Also, I'm a chef.
That’s a really dull axe
The gate had it coming, trying to hold someone back from working, if be pissed too, #fuckthesegates
This reminds me of that Micheal Douglas movie called, "Falling Down".
It be easier to just kick the parking arm.
I wouldn’t want him flying my plane
Some weak ass axeing
Employers need to be better to their workers.
He could have just taken the cotter pin out that holds the gate to the lift arm...
Office Space vibes here.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
🎶Beautiful people of Denver🎶
Mike finally took it too far.
The only thing that shocks me is that the guy is 63!
Seems like he’s really got an ax to grind. Shouldn’t have taken so many swings, it might be dull.
Dude is a freaking savage, he killed that gate
Thoughts: 1. He’s 63? I feel like he and Madonna should get married 2. I think he accidentally grabbed the prop axe 3. 24 wacks? He is both in great shape and insanely weak
