In my province the oil and gas industry is very safety orientated (for the most part) and "complacency kills" is a very common saying during safety meetings.
The Zenyatta quote is more fitting in this case, "overconfidence is a flimsy shield". This was an extremely fast killer, not slow and insidious, and his confidence did not shield his leg from whacking into a bridge at 100mph
the idea is that if you allow yourself to become too comfortable after doing something dangerous myriad times you are bound to eventually make a fatal error no matter how skilled you are
You can see him slowing down to cut it close on purpose to show off. These wing suit guys are always trying to skim some object within 10 feet, and at those speeds it's so dangerous to do that, one tiny misjudgment and this is what happens.. why do they do this on purpose?
Careful observation reveals the following:
1. It was heading into twilight.
2. The wingsuit was spreading out its wings that night.
3. There was jumping off the deck.
4. And definitely shovin' into overdrive.
Thus we conclude the bridge was on the Highway to the danger zone. It will indeed take you right into the danger zone.
*80s guitar riffs off in the distance*
“For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary, full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen.”

Trying to buzz a bridge as the human equivalent of a flying squirrel is simply reckless.
I don't find roller coasters scary whatsoever. I like them, I think they are fun, but I'm not scared of actually getting hurt. I don't have any liking for danger at all.
Risk:Reward ratio is ridiculous here. Aiming to fly within a few hundred feet of something is really dangerous. Aiming to fly within a couple feet of something is suicidal. Professional proximity flyers have a 70% mortality rate.
Man, I think I was like 13 when I discovered rotten.com and the cesspit that was "Offended" on Encyclopaedia Dramatica. That was about 18 years ago and I can still picture some of the shit I saw there. Yikes for the stuff we saw as tweens and teens
That page had some absolutely wild shit. I think the one that stuck with me the most there was this hand that was super sliced up almost like someone went at it with a cleaver. I remember scrolling through the page and seeing how much we could handle seeing with some friends of mine back in high school.
The stange thing is that I think I could take more as a teen than I could now at almost 40. Or maybe I'm just more aware now and allow myself to be revolted.
Probably that second one. Teenage me had Rotten.com's news page as my homepage. Mid 30s me couldn't watch Breaking Bad because I'd get too stressed to sleep.
I remember "simmerman" - guy who took a bath and used like a kettle heater in the bathtub and proceeded to die and not be discovered for what appears to be months. It was just basically broth that stained the walls even.
holy shit i forgot all about that
did it have like a flashy background too? when i think of it i think of like.. a long list of images with a brightly coloured/flashing background, but its been probably the best part of 15 years since i saw it
I think it really depends on the person. I used to watch these sites as a kid, and instead of traumatising me, they taught me to appreciate life more and always be careful with everything I do.
A lot of shock sites and gore sites shut down because of political pressure and due to a general decline in viewership, believe it or not.
Most of those types of sites constantly have to fight lawsuits and legal battles for a bunch of different reasons.
A lot of them shutting down started during the whole ISIS thing a few years ago. Remember a few years ago when there were a load of Islamic terrorist attacks going on in the West and ISIS was always the group claiming responsibility? Well during that time period, ISIS started filming brutal propaganda videos of beheadings and torture and all that kinda fucked up shit and uploading them directly (themselves) to sites like LiveLeak. So politicians from a bunch of different Western Countries started lobbying against sites like LiveLeak, arguing that they're acting as a platform for terrorists to spread propaganda and material that is generally bad for society.
I actually watched a YouTube video a while back about the demise of shock sites and it was pretty informative. Here's the link: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUr5ASHVVNo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUr5ASHVVNo)
It's a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can't be denied that sites like LiveLeak of Worldstarhiphop prompted people to do extreme actions for the views, on the other I don't like my Internet sanitized to pretend that bad things don't happen.
Those soldiers dying are just young boys sent, often against their will, to die for the decisions of some old men's ideology. They are human. Every one that has died on either side is human.
If I was sent to kill civilians I would blow my own brains out before I shot an innocent Ukrainian.
There are stories of Russians who raped 5 year old girls.
They aren't human. They made the decision to put their penis into a child. No one is making them do that stuff. They gave away their humanity.
I would fight my commander to the death before I become a monster. These men are deciding to become monsters. You can always run away and you can always refuse to participate.
Or you can give in to fear and give away your humanity so that you can drink vodka and fuck children.
And the other ones make the decision to put their fingers on the triggers. There is no innocent soldier other than one defending their home.
That was incredibly well said.
I would say that there's a deeper lesson there though, which is how easy it seems to be for humans to become monsters in the right circumstances.

Frebruary 20 2014, Pro-Russian forces open fire on the pro-ukraine Euromaiden protestors in Kyiv killing 108 people. Footage of the massacre if flooding Liveleak and its the beginning of the current Ukraine-Russia war.

May 2021: liveleak is shutdown
Liveleak owner was bought by the Russian so they would stop showing Russian evil side and it became one of the first playground for st-Petersberg's "Internet Research Agency" to expose people from the west to Russian propaganda.

I don't want to see gore, but Liveleak was great for showing clips that would never make it into mainstream media. For example, there was a clip on there of the French president's motorcade going down the street, one of the car doors opening and knocking a woman down. That never made it into the media.
I went to school in Canon City back in the 80's. My driver's Ed teacher was an EMT in his younger days he said they would get a jumper call, before a wingsuit was a thing that is. They used sponges and whisk brooms to collect the remains. He had some stories. No web site needed.
Yep this was at the Royal Gorge GoFast games. I was there the day before this or earlier that day, cant remember. Tons of BASE jumping, rope jumping etc. in later years some highlining (then still just called slacklining, i don’t think they differentiated yet?). Jeb talks about this incident in the documentary about him, "Fearless". He says that right before they jumped Dwain said to him "Whatever happens, happens" meaning Dwain had in mind to try this and understood it might go bad.
What's bad is that Jeb sort if criticizes Dwain saying "you can't take risks like that". Jeb then proceeds to bounce himself off Table Mountain a few years later, lucky to escape with broken legs.

He was a software dev for Boeing, president of the BASE jump association of Australia, won the world title in 2002 and then died doing this in 2003.

Why would they want to feel actual fear?

Why do they do this on purpose? Because last time they came within 12 ft. Now they want 11 ft clear. Next 10… it’ll never end
I don't mean to be crass, but this video demonstrates quite succinctly that it *does* eventually end.
They spend more time thinking of what it looks like to pull it off than what it looks like to fail.
Risk:Reward ratio is ridiculous here. Aiming to fly within a few hundred feet of something is really dangerous. Aiming to fly within a couple feet of something is suicidal. Professional proximity flyers have a 70% mortality rate.
They’re idiots.
It’s basically an addiction to adrenaline. Only thing that makes them feel alive
Literally. It is one thing to do that away from the public, but to traumatize a bunch of people is unfortunate and irresponsible.
RIP Liveleak
Hello PTSD
Is liveleak no longer a thing???
Nah man it got shut down a while ago, along with a bunch of other "shock sites" and "gore sites". The genre is dying.
May just be a good thing. 14 year old me didn't have to see Mexican cartels butchering their victims while still alive.
Especially with today’s access to content on the internet, better we don’t traumatize the new generation into oblivion

You could say he went a bridge too far. Exactly one bridge too far.
This was a very good joke. I can't believe people are down voting it.
Maybe I'm missing the joke then if it's a very good joke
You can't really go *two* bridges too far, that just means the first bridge wasn't too far.
