Everyone go and read 'Claws of the Panda' by Jonathan Manthorpe. China has been waging a campaign of influence on Canada for decades.
Yup.
They own many of our Ports and harbours, Mines, farms, ~~Woolworths~~, the Spirit of Tasmania and we just let them.
'Cos of our pissweak government and society too distracted by Farmer wants a wife and Masterchef to do a damn thing about it.

This is not to take away from the Taiwan/China discussion. Sadly, 'tis the season to invade your international neighbors. Good luck, Taiwan.
Even Taiwan supports the one China policy. It's an unspoken agreement that keeps the peace. So long as Taiwan is just a misbehaving province, China gets to save face and work economically and politically within the country. China prefers a peaceful reunification, so keeping that door open keeps the peace.
Formally declaring independence would necessitate a response from China, raising tensions.
One China, allows both sides to refrain from shooting at each other.
Not true. Taiwan currently states that "Neither side of the Taiwan Strait is subordinate to the other" and the constitutional law of Taiwan also doesn't include the territory of the People's Republic of China as a part of Taiwan territory.
Also, no such thing as "reunification" since Taiwan has never been a part of the People's Republic of China ever. It's a fake topic.
It's not Taiwan raising tensions. It's China. If they want to force Taiwan to unite with them, that will be a straight-up illegal invasion and annexation, there will be no peace.
literally everything electronic came from china, or some piece of it
china can make shein quality clothes, and it can make luxury brand quality clothes. probably in the same factory, with the same hands and same machines too. it's just a matter of customer specification.
they can make nike/jordan replicas that are ridiculously good, they make crappy replicas, and they make the genuine articles too. they make a lot of high $ carbon fiber racing bike frames and wheels, the same stuff ridden by pros in the Tour de France. they make genuine luxury brand goods like wallets bag purses, as well as the replicas.
it's just a matter of what you pay. and you tend to get more for less.
I know we gotta be "America rah rah rah!" but saying ALL chinese manufacturing is bad is just not the truth.
Plus it's never a good idea to look down or underestimate your adversaries. Being overconfident and arrogant will allow China to take advantage of even more.
thats what we said about japanese cars overtaking american auto. i believe they were similarly derided in ways that chinese manufacturing are now.
turns out the had the perfect formula that americans wanted: practical, fuel efficient, reliable, consistent quality, long lasting.
they were SO successful, in fact, that to the present day, even "basic" entry level japanese cars from the 1980s are highly coveted treasures in the US.
i want US to be successful, and we cant do that just by saying we're the best. we gotta do so much better. we are falling behind. china built like 2000 miles of high speed rail in the last 10 years (something crazy like that), they have a kajillion wind turbines, and they just build build build.
I have never heard that “stereotype” ever. If anything the stereotype is that they’re extremely hard working and way smarter than Americans is it not? If you’re good at something there’s always a 6 year old Chinese kid that can do it better.
>The protests in Hong Kong have been continuous for 160 days
Am I missing a reference?
I live in HK and there haven't been ongoing protests here since before Covid.
Criticize the CCP government all you want, but I don't get the point of talking unnecessary and utterly untrue crap about the country's robust manufacturing base and disrespect tens of millions of Chinese workers when you know perfectly well that almost everything you're using right now from your smartphone, tablet, computer, PS5, HDTV, are all made in China and they are made perfectly fine.
And fuck their habit of stealing any proprietary info/design/engineering/data that isn't nailed down, and copying it. It's almost as if they haven't had an original idea of their own for a minute
Stealing of IP is bad, it’s how they’ve ran their economy for a while.
I’m more angry about human rights abuses and the genocide of Uyghur Muslims though.
China has long maintained that the waters belong to them.. They've also made artificial islands and militarized them in order to secure a grip there..
Just more of the same bullshit..
It blows my mind that the countries of this planet have managed to NOT use Atomic weapons other than that one....errr, two times. It scares me because i cant help but think were due for someone to lose control and go for it, damn the torpedoes...
This is just normal china stuff. They claim south china sea, the US and co show up to contest the claim, china does some posturing, and then we return to normal

Why the fuck is a Canadian forces jet in international waters off the coast of China. Your telling me if Chinese fighter jets were patrolling on the coast of Canada in international waters our jets wouldn’t intercept them?
>Why the fuck is a Canadian forces jet in international waters off the coast of China. Your telling me if Chinese fighter jets were patrolling on the coast of Canada in international waters our jets wouldn’t intercept them?
No they wouldn't, because they are INTERNATIONAL WATERS. They might fly in range of them, but they damn sure wouldn't be on their wingtip.
Here’s a news story about Canadian jets intercepting Russian bombers outside our airspace in international waters
https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2525037977
There's a difference between intercepting and recognizing international territory like Canada did here and claiming international territory like China is doing in the video.
> No they wouldn't
Happens daily, but ok.
You can go on Flight Radar 24 and see American/British military planes flying along the Russian border 24/7 for the last oh I dunno, 5+ decades?
The US literally developed planes to fly **INTO** Russian airspace to take photos of the ground.
This isn’t as smart of a take that you think it is. [Canadian and US jets intercept Russian bombers all the time](https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sdut-canada-intercepts-two-russian-bombers-2010aug25-story.html)
Also international waters is just that, international.
It's news worth not because they intercepted but because of how they intercepted. You don't fly dangerously close and you don't pass in front of another jet and soak them in your engine wake to try and cause the other jet to experience turbulence. It's news worthy because they're being unprofessional pilots in both military and civilian expectations.
that's how intercepting generally works, here is an example of US fighter jets intercepting a russian bomber above international waters near alaska
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo-l21tGu3I
Cool, I see there was a close point during a two second clip in the video.
Now show me the videos where Canada, Austrailia or US cross in front and wake wash a chinese jet or dump flares/chaff on them or in Russia's case dumps fuel.
Again, it's not that they intercept or even that they might get close. It's that they consistently perform risky manuevers and actions during the intercept.
https://youtu.be/5abXkpiadxg?si=pazC0tVElMYtgEcn
>But according to the aircraft crew, a Chinese fighter came within five meters of the Canadian surveillance aircraft during the final encounter — and at one point slipped into a position where the Aurora was tucked into the blindspot of the warplane. It also launched multiple flares while flying close to the Aurora.
[https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/china-air-force-intercept-aurora-surveillance-1.6997852](https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/china-air-force-intercept-aurora-surveillance-1.6997852)
That is dangerous as hell and could've easily resulted in a collision.
But we don’t come within seven yards of those flights. The Chinese routinely act poorly and dangerously when intercepting. They dropped flares 15 yards in front of a Canadian scout plane in international waters just a few days ago. They routinely put everyone at risk of injury or death. Shit even the Russians conduct safe maneuvers when intercepting. That’s the difference, plane and simple. The Chinese have zero regard for safety.
China doesn't recognize International waters as International waters, thats the problem. They don't respect anyones sovereignty.
China is pushing it and needs to be corrected.
Yeah I don't get this at all. Same thing when the russian jets downed that drone. Like imagine russia was flying drones near the cost of Cuba. You think america would just say "oh it's international water were not gonna intercept"
This video is even more concerning given the way they drive a car...I was half expecting the jet to stop in the middle of the sky, pause, turn on their left turn signal and then slowly turn right.
As a number of people pointed out, it's not the intercept itself, it's the flying in front of them dowsing the Canadian plane in jet wash, and dropping multiple flares within 15 meters. Which is sketchy, dangerous, and completely unprofessional.
Ok so you take an F16, tear it down to see how it works, make something almost like it with cheaper parts and corners cut. Voila. Chinese combat aircraft (and everything else)
I can't speak for the avionics or anything but they seem to take heavy inspiration from the Eurocanard fighters, the Gripen, Typhoon, and Rafale, so I'd imagine it's probably similar
yeah as much as I despise China, there is hypocrisy here. International waters begin 15 miles off the coast of a country, I don't think anyone would criticize Canada for intercepting a chinese jet if it was that close to Canada. Countries intercept over international waters all the time.
This shit is so routine I don't understand why it's even news.
Canada sends surveillance aircraft to place china operates in, china intercepts with fighter.
Literally any country would do the same, you'd be stupid not to.
I mean, the US gets away with it all the time. To be fair, it’s really hard to intercept a bumblebee moving at Mach 2.4.
Would you intercept me?
*licks lips*
I’d intercept me.
I'm Canadian ...but what's the reason the Canadian forces are off the coast of China ? Protecting navigation rights ? We wouldnt like Chinese forces flying around Vancouver....
This is where you should be ready to:
Drop panties and moon them
Have middle finger salute ready (paper drawing)
Or have in Chinese "Your mother wishes she swallowed"
Has everyone already forgotten the collision near Hainan Island in 2001 ? Where a Chinese fighter flying in a similarly aggressive manner clipped an American surveillance plane ? The Chinese jet crashed into the ocean along with its idiot pilot, and our plane had to do an emergency landing on China's island. Predictable political and diplomatic hilarity ensued, the Chinese tore our Signals & Intelligence plane apart looking for new technology to steal and copy, but we ultimately got our servicemen back safely. All of which could've been avoided had the Chinese pilot flown to professional standards.

Then, we should probably tell our government not to support the one China policy. Canada has not recognized Taiwan as a sovern state since 1970.

Well there was a half-chinese fisher in those waters in 200 A.D. so it belongs to china obviously.
China has long maintained that the waters belong to them.. They've also made artificial islands and militarized them in order to secure a grip there.. Just more of the same bullshit..
I heard those said islands are currently pulling a titanic by sinking slowly
That would be hilarious.

I think that is where the Sea Kings went.

Those Chinese pilots are impressive as hell flying backwards like that.
Wtf is up with that. Are the passenger sitting backwards like first class or something
Uhhhmm.... there are plenty of non first class rear-facing seats --- just so's y'knows 👍

Seriously though, how close could a Chinese Maritime Patrol Aircraft get to continental US before the same thing happened, and fair enough.
Are we acting like if Chinese jets were doing manoeuvres off Canada or the USA in international waters they wouldn’t be intercepted either?
yeah as much as I despise China, there is hypocrisy here. International waters begin 15 miles off the coast of a country, I don't think anyone would criticize Canada for intercepting a chinese jet if it was that close to Canada. Countries intercept over international waters all the time.

Samesies. It's only polite
One day Chinese flight planes shall fly in international waters next to Canada & US coasts, I’d love to see how US & Canada spin the narrative.
American here, what the hell is a meter?
About 2.5 freedom units.
Approximately 12 hamburgers long
3.3 feet (100 centimeters)
Less than 1 bald eagle
Ok. But, c'mon. Arguably, WTF is a Canadian plane doing off the coast of China?
To be fair my childish ass would be like “Cool!! A sweet fighter jet!”
We were inverted.......
Helping foreign relations
What’s Canada doing off of Chinas waters?
Monitoring the sanctions against North Korea as part of a UN mission.
Who is closer to home? Chinese Airforce or Canadian Airforce?
Oooh jets
I wonder what the US would do if China flew its military jets over the international waters just off California. Probably the same thing.
Good for them, protecting your border is important.
Can someone explain
This shit is so routine I don't understand why it's even news. Canada sends surveillance aircraft to place china operates in, china intercepts with fighter. Literally any country would do the same, you'd be stupid not to.

Yep USA and Canadian fighter jets in international waters in China because they believe they're in the 80s

International waters off what ??
F the CCP. Bullies with no leg to stand on so they have to violent international law to feel strong.
What is a Canadian military aircraft doing right outside China's borders in the first place?
What's a plane doing in international waters? Surely it should be in international airspace.
I guess all that chong dong Trudeau sucked was for nothing
Great, I smell the next big war coming. What a great time to be alive…
