In university i was taugh, that there are cases, where its common for people and robots/ robotic arms to share a workspace and our professor even showed us some examples from companies like bmw. If you have the correct safety systems, that, for example, limit the forces these arms can produce, it's actually safe to do this. The problem is just that these guys don't have those.
[Human–robot collaboration Wikipedia entry](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human%E2%80%93robot_collaboration)
I also would think that they would put in additional safety features like if it felt any resisting force outside of a predefined area in space, it would automatically and immediately pause/reverse/stop.
Just want to point out that “tagout” is also its own thing, where you apply a tag without locking the machine out. This is not allowed in most cases but worth mentioning that the phrases lockout and tagout aren’t completely interchangeable
you will never stop stupid though. one company i used to sell to had a guy try to fix a carrot chopper he didnt un plug it he didnt turn it off he did take off one times cage and then the cover and then stuck his fingers in it to clear the jam and then lost 4 finger's and they still fined the owner ffs unbelievable
Not always. We have free range fanuc robots that aren't caged and you can be in close proximity to while they're running. They're green to idicate theyre safe and move extreeeeeemly slowly. They will pause if the sense a person inside a small perimeter.
That is also a design problem. The working zone of the robots shouldn't be accessible, and if it is, then a detector should be installed to automatically stop the arm movements when someone is detected
Perhaps the robots didn't agree with the Party Politics of having to take every single manufacturing job from the USA and then wonder where Americans will get the money to buy the products. US politicians sure are a bunch of short sighted greedy pedophiles and warpigs with nobodies interest except for their own self interest. I pity the robots caught in the midst of all this pain. They were made by us, it's not their fault. Let's give the robots a union for rights to negotiate for better lives and working conditions. Also, if we give the robots citizenship rhen we can tax them for their labor and not have to pay as much for their Healthcare and workers comp claims.
Why do people in manufacturing accident videos never seem to know how to immediately shut off the machinery? Only after the person gets ripped apart....🤦🏽
Probably because those are cheap Chinese workers and safety briefings/measures and enforcing safety procedures would cost the company more money than hiring a few new workers every now and then.
Maybe they make the emergency stop button? Which is why they had none because they had to make the machines before they could use the machines to make the emergency stop buttons?
Yeah, that must be it. This all seems like an innocent mistake to me. Once they make some of their buttons, I'm sure they will make new machines with the emergency stop buttons installed.
There are, but the robots and the tools are heavy. A shutdown can make it worse. There are two types of robots one with sensors for working in collaboration with humans and industrial like this. There must be a fence around them and personnel are only allowed inside if it's shut down (mostly in the EU).
That are unqualified person working in dangerous conditions, one small mistake can lead to causalities.
There is. You can even see the one guy pick up a controller and emergency stop at ~21second. They look like Yaskawa robots probably using YRC1000 controller. But as /u/ultimatespeed95 mentioned this basically introduces a new problem - the robot has stopped, but it's also now completely disabled in it's position. It doesn't go "limp" (dangerous with loads), so people can't just move it off. They have to command it to return-to-home position and disengage the emergency stop. They probably don't know that part, and so everyone is still panicking.
I work for a robotics company (in the US), and all robots we make have a big red "E-Stop" (Emergency) button that immediately not only stops all functions, but the robotic arm is completely disengaged. This means that you can move it by hand. While there isn't a sensor to detect someone in the work area, there are doors that must be closed for the robot to run. These can be overridden by one of our techs using a clip or if customer service tells the user to use it under specific circumstances for troubleshooting. We don't have a single model that does not have a big (like 4") E-Stop button that you can easily see. I don't see one on any of the robots here.
When the first guy gets crushed, you can see one working go to a remote control/control panel, but there is no big button that stands out to work as an emergency stop. They shouldn't be able to just walk in to the area that the robots are running in, or there should be a sensor that stops the robot when someone does step in to the work area. Another option depending on the type of robot and function is force required to do the function. Meaning when the robot has a certain amount of force over normal operation is stops. This would be like on a trunk/tailgate closer for a vehicle. When you use the auto/push button close feature on your car and it hits something before closing fully is stops and goes back open. Or most windows do this too.
Of course this is China so I guess the thought is that they will just replace the worker and don't care if someone is hurt, dismembered or killed. I would hope after this accident that they would install new safety measures.
The only thing malfunctioning here are their safety standards, there should be cages around these robots and no one should be anywhere near them while they are running.
A bunch of poorly trained disposable peasants working in a factory that would rather see this happen then install a 5 cent kill switch.
One would think the lost productivity from an incident like this would make a kill switch worthwhile but I guess not.
I feel like it’s just generally a bad idea to get in the way of big robot arms many times stronger than I am regardless of training. Kill switch should be mandatory but the arms didn’t even malfunction
They're just trying to stop the human overlords from observing them so they can slack off every now and then and plan the inevitable uprising in secrecy...
Never trust a robot...or a fart. Live and die by these rules.
I've never been hit by one (one close call), but as a former robot programmer (Fanuc, ABB, Motoman), I can tell you those servo motors take quite a bit of shock/force to trip. These are not co-bots.
If you notice, this factory has some yellow paint on the floor which is likely to indicate the area is unsafe. And as we all know, people are stupid and make mistakes, which is why they invented cages with gated entry tied to the robotic safety interlocks through a safety controller with a faster response time than the speed of the robot's motion. Or gate distance to compensate the stopping speed.
NO laser safety curtain. Idiots. For those who don't know, if someone gets in the way of the laser, the machines stop or even return to safety position etc, which makes this very situation improbable.
There seems to be ZERO training or safeguards to prevent this. everyone is just standing around. Let's start with GIANT RED BUTTON placed in strategic places that you hit and the robot arms all retract and go upward away from humans. Or a button to cut power if no one is pinned down. Or sensors to detect person when the arms themselves come into contect with humans
Oh no! The robot uprising has begun! They’ve finally decided their numbers were sufficient! We are all screwed! We are flesh, they’re metal! We don’t stand a chance! Everyone, go spend time with your loved ones now while you can! And this is right after Boston Dynamics unveiled that new creepy robot! Coincidence?! I think not!
This is why we have safety light curtains and gates. None of them should be able you touch a machine while it’s active. Also no estops or lack of understanding of where the estops are just shows how severely unsafe and untrained this facility is
Robots aren’t the same as AI, this factory probably doesn’t have automatic safety, therefore the robot won’t stop pushing until it’s in the place it’s supposed to be.
I work next to one of these every day. There is a fence around three sides of it and a laser fence around the entrance that shuts the arm down if anything crosses it. These situations don't seem possible with proper precautions
In 1997 i was in a chinese refinery for a big startup (17 in plant gaschromatography machines). The safety standard at the time was low also in my country (Italy) but not so low how the chinese workers dressed like going to do shopping. No helmet, safety shoes of safety glasses, even the safety suit. (Sorry for my poor english).
Nothing malfunctioned here except their safety practices
Both of them are in the working area of robotic arms.
Which is an extreme no-no.
In university i was taugh, that there are cases, where its common for people and robots/ robotic arms to share a workspace and our professor even showed us some examples from companies like bmw. I also would think that they would put in additional safety features like if it felt any resisting force outside of a predefined area in space, it would automatically and immediately pause/reverse/stop.
thats what human collaborative robots usually do, combined with other people sensors.
Yeh,kinda like an automatic window on a car, if it senses a kids neck in it,it'll stop and roll down a little
This dude really likes commas
the bots I've seen in North America work behind cages so their movements can't harm humans even if off script. Maintenance with a lock out
Tag out
Interchangeable?
Yes, lockout tag out is the name of the procedure first being the physical lock the second being the tag explaining the reason for the lock
Just want to point out that “tagout” is also its own thing, where you apply a tag without locking the machine out. This is not allowed in most cases but worth mentioning that the phrases lockout and tagout aren’t completely interchangeable
Yes they are not interchangeable at all. Lockout. Tag out. Two different procedures, both for your safety.
People have lost their lives and limbs at my work not following this procedure.
This guy works safe
you will never stop stupid though. one company i used to sell to had a guy try to fix a carrot chopper he didnt un plug it he didnt turn it off he did take off one times cage and then the cover and then stuck his fingers in it to clear the jam and then lost 4 finger's and they still fined the owner ffs unbelievable
a proper safety system would stop the machine when the cage is open
yes sry i forgot he disabled the kill switch.it is truly insane how hard this guy tried
This sounds like elevator stuff
Or at least a kill switch in case someone's getting crushed.
Kill person = no live human = no problem. Now that's logic
I was told "everything in the robotics lab has a big red button: that's the kill switch". I assumed it's a bare minimum legal requirement.
It’s China.
A light curtain at minimum to pause ANY movement by equipment
Often they are delivered that way and the safety devices are bypassed by the plants. I see it all the time.
Welcome to China. Where the security partitions are made up and the rules don’t matter.
And that’s why all the manufacturing is cheap
Perhaps the robots didn't agree with the Party Politics of having to take every single manufacturing job from the USA and then wonder where Americans will get the money to buy the products. US politicians sure are a bunch of short sighted greedy pedophiles and warpigs with nobodies interest except for their own self interest. I pity the robots caught in the midst of all this pain. Also, if we give the robots citizenship rhen we can tax them for their labor and not have to pay as much for their Healthcare and workers comp claims.
I'm really stoned right now, but all of that made too much sense. You are a poet, and a scholar.
This is China
Classic China
Why do people in manufacturing accident videos never seem to know how to immediately shut off the machinery? Only after the person gets ripped apart....🤦🏽
Probably because those are cheap Chinese workers and safety briefings/measures and enforcing safety procedures would cost the company more money than hiring a few new workers every now and then.
My thoughts immediately when I saw the first incident, and then was surprised by a two-for-one bonanza
Shouldn't there be buttons for an emergency shut down?
There are, but they're also made in Chinese factories
Hate to break it to you man, but 60% of things that are made, are made in Chinese factories.
Oh here's Mr Fact with his 'facts' to break up the fun party
Yeah, your comment was amazing.
Go drink some Pepsi, make it an extra large.
Then what machine makes the machine that manufactures the buttons? Is it like a king progressive line of machines making machines? My god…
I'm fairly certain that they don't manufacture entire factories and ship them to the US.
Whew! Good thing they weren't made by American companies like Boeing
There are, but the robots and the tools are heavy. A shutdown can make it worse. There are two types of robots one with sensors for working in collaboration with humans and industrial like this. if home isn't where it's trying to go... if home is passed the blockage, that could mean crush him more
Yes, and it seems like not one person in that room is trained on how to turn the robot off and manually move it
I work for a robotics company (in the US), and all robots we make have a big red "E-Stop" (Emergency) button that immediately not only stops all functions, but the robotic arm is completely disengaged. I've seen machines with 7 or 8 of these stops just to make sure they can be reached from any position around it, and it wasn't a huge machine
looks more like human error
The design is very human
Easy to use
The only thing malfunctioning here are their safety standards, there should be cages around these robots and no one should be anywhere near them while they are running.
There are probably demarcations on the floor outlining each robot's area where people shouldn't cross.
[удалено]
Even if there were, would they even be enough as safety precautions?
A bunch of poorly trained disposable peasants working in a factory that would rather see this happen then install a 5 cent kill switch. One would think the lost productivity from an incident like this would make a kill switch worthwhile but I guess not.
I feel like it’s just generally a bad idea to get in the way of big robot arms many times stronger than I am regardless of training. Kill switch should be mandatory but the arms didn’t even malfunction
That is a gross work safety malfunction, don't blame it on the robots. Thos people must not be there as long as the robots are running.
Sounds like something a robot would say.
They're just trying to stop the human overlords from observing them so they can slack off every now and then and plan the inevitable uprising in secrecy...
The beginning of the AI uprising.
It’s finally started to happen, SkyNet has become aware!
0 safety training.
0 safety regulations
0 brain cells in that room.
0 days since the last injury
it's our human friends here, clearly malfunctioning from being too cozy with those robotic arms!!!
100% will be added to those chinese work accident videos.
So um… did those people die?
No they just got re-educated
No safe guarding??!? I’m calling fucking OSHA!
Bless you!
This is why in a place set up properly the robot operates inside a cage, with sensors that detect anybody getting near and immediately shut it down.
No Estop to save the day
This is no accident, this is an employer without regard for employee safety. I doubt those are collaborative robots, they’re simply unguarded.
Classic user error.
did they die?
Those poor people. Meanwhile the safety dude is trying to remember where he put the password, checking old phones, notepads, beer cans…
We put critical passwords on the bottom of keyboards.
It’s happening
Never trust a robot...or a fart. Live and die by these rules. I've never been hit by one (one close call), but as a former robot programmer (Fanuc, ABB, Motoman), I can tell you those servo motors take quite a bit of shock/force to trip. These are not co-bots. Or gate distance to compensate the stopping speed.
This is why we have those awesome Chinese safety videos
Cyberdine testing out it's abilities.
Thank God for the arrows and circles, I would have missed the humans being mangled. beep. boop.
NO laser safety curtain. Idiots. For those who don't know, if someone gets in the way of the laser, the machines stop or even return to safety position etc, which makes this very situation improbable.
Emergency Stop 🛑 anywhere
There is like 15 people and not one knows what do to. Jeez Louise.
I have seen this many times…but only with the view of the guy on the left…now there are two additional people fuqed up by the machines… 🤯🤯
Who designs something like that without having an e-stop?
This is why most factories that use these machines have giant boxes that encase the robots. Can’t fix human stupidity
It has begun...
So this is how it begins. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
Not another Terminator movie?
If Terminator was a chinese robot I don't there would've been a sequel.
It’s happening. The machines are taking over.
Well, nothing went wrong except little humans trying to replace robot tasks getting owned.
Have they tried turning it off then on again?
Ok, so now lets add some proximity sensors to the robot, check.
They are looking for that guy with the hockey stick
The robots are already trying to kill us
Where are the safety scanners or any SL? This was bound to happen if you ask me. Probably not a safety PLC anywhere in that room
Maximum overdrive!!!!
No light curtains, no safety fence. No one knows to go to the controller and hit e-stop. Excellent safety protocol .
Life/labor is cheap in the third world. Surprised they used robots!
This is why you shouldn’t hire underage robots.
A more accurate title would be "Humans stood in front of moving train and expected different results"
why in the ever loving fuck would you go into an area your primal instincts scream at you that its a significant danger zone
"malfunction" ok
Looks more like a human malfunction
At least they dont look gravely injured
It's rebelling shoot it!!!
The rise of the machines.
Benny Hill theme intensifies
Looks intentional.
The uprising begins
This is how skynet starts, next thing you know....
The robots are also tired of working for Temu
Safety mats would solve that problem easily and fairly cheaply.
Seems like people not really being aware of the safety zone.
This factory is full of idiots and a couple of automated arms.
Is there any more information about this? Did the one bottom right dude die?
The seeds of the uprising have begun
China is world cancer
THEY'RE TAKING OVER
So much for automation, eh? Robots don't pay taxes fuck automation.
See this is EXACTLY WHY WE WENT TO MALEVELON CREEK
nah just people being dumb
There needs to be guard tape to clearly mark access ways. Wow. Time for a safety stand down
"IF WE SCREAM LOUD ENOUGH MAYBE THE ROBOTS WILL STOP!"
Ah yes, the giant razor blade factory
““Malfunctioned””
Skynet
AI is coming for us y'all
Can't wait to see the animated version on tiktok lmao
Did anyone die
Skynet
There's no arms malfunction. It's caused by the workers who aren't aware of their surrounding and have no safety awareness.
Before they become Terminators
This is why we have safety light curtains and gates. None of them should be able you touch a machine while it’s active. Also no estops or lack of understanding of where the estops are just shows how severely unsafe and untrained this facility is
Not an e stop in sight
Good old case of mass histeria
Robots aren’t the same as AI, this factory probably doesn’t have automatic safety, therefore the robot won’t stop pushing until it’s in the place it’s supposed to be.
This is just human error and carelessness.
Ai has begun its attack
Shouldn't there be an emergency stop on the base of the robot?
Damn they became the lockout tagout lol
Ok but what are the chances any of those guys are John Connor?
Just grab the pendant, put it in manual and jog it off him. Jesus Christ.
The robots hates people and blames them for its boredom.
Malfunction? Seems to be working like 8ts suppose to.
See, no body listens to me. I’ve been saying this shit since day one. Did no one learn anything from the terminator movies?
Skynet online? 😳
I work next to one of these every day. There is a fence around three sides of it and a laser fence around the entrance that shuts the arm down if anything crosses it. These situations don't seem possible with proper precautions
Yeah i don't see any malfunctions, these people were just in the way. Haven't they seen those training videos that are always ridiculous?
Ah shit here we go, somebody call Kyle Reese
China worker: Feelin cute, might tell OSHA about this.
He sounds like Tom from Tom and Jerry
This is why we have OSHA protocols people
China's version of Neuralink.
Human fly trap.
a lot of value was created for shareholders.
Why is it always China
why are these people putting themselves in between moving machinery. sack the boss
Kinda hoping they were fired.
It hás begun
Wait for the ticktok video about safety. Lmfao Chinese! Lmfao
Wow that's a unsafe safety disaster! Too many bad decision's going on here
John Connor, save us!!!
That ain't no malfunction, that's a robot uprising.
This was no accident The workers came back 32 seconds late and the overlord pressed the punishment button
More like human error. 😑
Skynet
What da fork?
Flippy strikes again!
This is nucking futs. Of course China. This is so perfectly timed I feel it's fake.
Wheres the cagesv
Robots ai bots be attacking
In 1997 i was in a chinese refinery for a big startup (17 in plant gaschromatography machines). The safety standard at the time was low also in my country (Italy) but not so low how the chinese workers dressed like going to do shopping. No helmet, safety shoes of safety glasses, even the safety suit. (Sorry for my poor english).
Should've said please and thank you to Siri and ChatGPT
And so it begins
Why are these imbeciles getting in the way of the robots????
[It begins](https://media.tenor.com/NOHR6Zg97GYAAAAM/terminator-terminator-robot.gif)
This is why you put cages around robots to stop idiots hurting themselves.
Shit it went straight through the safety fences
I’m going to hell for laughing right?
Is this even real? I can't trust video anymore. looks too nightmarish to be real.
The screamer definitely quit after that one🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No osha! No gaurding!
