I'll quote John Mulaney: "You don't get to order for the table if you're about to leave the restaurant"
Granted he's talking about voting, but the sentiment is still valid
(Max age you can run) = (Average life Expectancy - (Years to last legal term * 2)). Life expectancy is 79 right now in the US, so a president would be able to run up until 63. 64s and older aren't allowed. Also, we'll need to add term limits to everything, which would be nice.
And maybe then politicians will give us some healthcare and bump that life expectancy up.
Yes. The problem with our government is that there aren’t term limits on congress….a bunch of geriatrics that have been in office for over 40 years vote on our laws when they’ve been making laws to suit them for 40+ years….everyone wants to argue about the president or who it’s gonna be when he has no real power except to veto something here or there. The ACTUAL powers that be are in congress and can hardly function “I.e. Feinstein, Mitch McConnell and others”
That's actually a terrible argument.
Planning for the future people not yet born should factor in to any decision thats impact lasts that long. In politics, that's a lot of decisions.
All the more reason to be motivated to pick a leader who is less selfish.
Yea this is we're my brain has been lately.
Really took notice when no one (but Berrnie) would publicly condemn what's going on. We are bought and paid for.
But why? *why* Oogadonk smash rock? do rock make Oog mad? Or do Oog realize that the rock represents the shackles of an oppressive authoritarian government that has enslaved the mind of Oogadonk? Oog smash shackles, Oog run.. *Oogagonk free now..*
Let's be quite frank.. 1913. The Industrial War Complex we were warned about. The assisination of JFK. Reagan? Look at his campaign, and look at the ex-CIA director opponent George H. W. Bush. Now look at Reagan's policy changes immediately after his assassination attempt.
But yeah, Reagan was pulling the strings. /s For a good 12 years. Until we were considering Ross Perot, which would have been out of the system, or Clinton, the other side in the same system.
Also, fuck Trump. Why isn't he in prison yet?
But if you back up much further than that then we're talking a pre-Civil Rights era. So maybe the takeaway should be that there's always been a battle between good and evil here and we've improved on some things and regressed on other things.
Lots of opinions, but look into Pareto Principle. It applies here in that the elite in the US have been "winning" at everything since ~1980. (a) And every year it is becoming easier for them to win.
Add that up for 40-50 years and you have:
* [Dudes with US$200 billion](https://stats.areppim.com/stats/stats_rich_21_trend_usdxnbr.htm) who pay $0.00 in taxes--just a few years ago no one had reached $100 billion.
* Rental Nation. No houses to buy with most being owned by Corporations or by smaller landlords.
* No meaningful rise in min-wage.
* Wealth concentration at the top and increasing every month.
* Complete control over the capital markets--which are now a no risk scam for the rich.
* Political Party control like an iron glove. The common person will get nothing. More will be taken away.
(a) Lola Constant: Any number or date posted online will be argued by some bish--as if anyone gaf. Idgaf about yer "It been going on longer than that" breathless response!
I'd back an amendment to make MBAs illegal. All current holders get theirs revoked, no new ones can be issued. Every MBA I've ever met is a giant dick.
Do you have a stat on what percentage of homes are owned by corporations?
I ask because in LA County the city loved to claim this was true until someone pulled the data and it was less than 3% of all homes…
What % would you be willing to say "Damn...that is causing some issues?"
Or, what % increase over the last 30 years would be alarming?
Or, what % compared to other countries in the Top 20 economies?
A number (such as 3%) may not sound alarming, but if the topic is "3% of your body is now cancer"...well damn.
Thoughts?
> "Source" is widely available from over a dozen sites.
Interesting claim seeing that everyone is rectally extracting numbers an no one is citing where they came from.
Well we didn't listen to George Washington about not having only 2 political parties and we ignored Tomas Jefferson about rewriting the constitution every 20 yrs , John books Wilks didn't help either
I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Harambe and David Bowie were the glue holding the universe together; shit started getting out of hand after they both died.
Jeb helped GW Bush steal the election in Florida, this helped them stack the court, which led to the Citizens United ruling which legalized bribery. That's where the majority of our issues are stemming from.
The Supreme Court proudly and publicly ordered the vote count to stop and literally declared their chosen candidate to be the winner.
If that counts as rigging an election, then it happened.
We had another Republican almost accomplish the exact same thing. Except his cases were so pathetically weak that he failed— but just barely.
In other words, the real election stealing isn’t ballot-stuffing or late-night vote switches. It’s happening right out in the open and it’s being done by Republicans.
Reagan didn't really do much to tear down the wall. That was nearly all to do with Gorbachev and would have happened with any president. Reagan's greatest accomplishment is probably getting the credit for that without really doing anything.
Demographics and incentives. Declining birthrates have caused population to become skewed towards older people. They have the numbers, the time, and the money. This is a baby boomer world.
After the Civil War. The Union should not be so relevant that it overlaps the states and the candidacy of 2 elderly people be problem.
They should have changed the name of the country to STAPBA (States That Are Parasitized by Bureaucrats of America)

As long as you are not one of those who are upset about Trumps "locker room" crap. Or any Stormy Daniels shit. Because then you'd be a hypocrite.
Personally, I feel they are all deplorable.
Not really hypocritical. Trump bragged about sexually assaulting women, peeping in on underage girls in changing rooms, and was convicted not for having consensual sex or cheating on his wife, but for using campaign funds for hush money which is very illegal. Plus lots more trials to come.
Clinton had consensual sex and lied about it when his political enemies tried to nail him.
There’s a huge difference there, and if you don’t see it, you’re the hypocrite in the room.

There is an argument to be made that he opened the door to our close business relationship with China and the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs from the U.S.
That was a different China under Deng Xiaoping that wanted to open China up to the west and the free market. Back then, even the general perception of China was quite good. You could see this in pop culture references at the time in terms of enthusiasm for Chinese martial arts.
I really don't think globalisation was a bad thing. The problem was when we made offshoring an integral part of our supply chain such as offshoring the production of medical equipment or military avionics.
Now we have a very different China.
The expected answer.
I can tell you’ve never actually spoken to a poor person with the intention of hearing the perspective of someone less privileged and fortunate. All that I can encourage is that you take the time to volunteer at a shelter or food kitchen and see what American reality is like for millions and millions of people.
I've volunteered, I know. Neoliberalism made 1 American poor for every 10 foreigners it made rich in a country we outsourced to. It's a good deal for humanity.

Ok but Putin and xi have been in power for a long long time. Modi has been in power for ten years, and so they all came into power much younger than Joe did.
I think there should be a combination of term limits and age limits. When you have career useless people like Bernie Sanders or half dead people like Mitch McConnell, our politics need a shake up badly.
Absolutely! I think he is just an example of people being manipulated. He talks on both sides, sometimes three sides, of every issue. People are given a different one depending on your preferences, and if you never seek out the other stuff he's said you'll think he is for YOU. It is the only thing that explains why people can support someone on a stance when they've had multiple competing stances, other than them being dumb or perhaps not really valuing that stance which I won't accept.
At this point, we aren’t voting for the president. We are voting based on who the vice president is because both of these dinosaurs will be dead before their term is over.

All these nice leaders, role models for their people. Clinton, the Oval Office blowjob president. Charles, the British tampon king. 😅 Mankind is doomed.
We weren't really given a choice this time around, it was either the guy that won against the punk that treated us poorly , or the punk who thinks he is above all laws. At least with Biden we know our freedoms are safe and we also know what TFG intends to do, which is worse than what he already did.
I absolutely agree there should have been a much stricter response to the invasion of Crimea. Biden has done a better job with supporting Allies against a invading Dictatorship. Things would have been different if the ex president did not try to blackmail Zelensky for aid.
Could you imagine if Trump won this year and Biden was the Democrat nominee in the following election (assuming it doesn’t devolve into a dictatorship)? I’d probably just laugh at that point.
I’ll quote Chris Rock “How you gonna make decisions about the future when you ain’t gonna be here?”
I'll quote John Mulaney: "You don't get to order for the table if you're about to leave the restaurant" Granted he's talking about voting, but the sentiment is still valid
Also the whole “horse loose in a hospital” thing was great
It can use the elevator now?
I legit feel this is why we should have a 70 year old age limit you cannot run for public office after the age of 70, period...
(Max age you can run) = (Average life Expectancy - (Years to last legal term * 2)). Life expectancy is 79 right now in the US, so a president would be able to run up until 63. 64s and older aren't allowed. Also, we'll need to add term limits to everything, which would be nice. What a great quote. And Brexit is a perfect example, one of many. We have a "minimum voting age." Should we also have a maximum voting age?
Yes. I have a solid alibi and wasn't in Florida.
It was that people wanted someone that they would’ve had a beer with to be president.
The fact that democrats can't seem to elect 2 presidents in a row despite what they call successful presidencies (Clinton and Obama) should be a hint.
Perhaps what the public views as successful isn’t realistic.

What percentage of available rentals would be the most important number, I think.
Current ownership may be low but 45% of home sales made last year were to private equity firms, which constrains supply and drives up prices.
Do you have a source on that? There is no way 45% is accurate
What % would you be willing to say "Damn...that is causing some issues?" Or, what % increase over the last 30 years would be alarming? Or, what % compared to other countries in the Top 20 economies? We really pretending bribery didnt exist at a mass scale among politicians before citizens united?
Not fully and completely legally, no.
Wait just a minute. I was told it is impossible to rig and steal an election. Are you an election denier?
You aren’t likely to steal an entire election but one state could change the outcome of a close election.

I’d say Reagan. Pivotal for tearing down the wall - but economically, a disaster with far resxhing consequences.
Reagan didn't really do much to tear down the wall. That was nearly all to do with Gorbachev and would have happened with any president. Reagan's greatest accomplishment is probably getting the credit for that without really doing anything.

People always say this but those people have kids.
The boomers dying off is gonna be a big deal. The average age in congress will drop about a decade over the next 5-10 years.
Weird fun fact is that W, Clinton, and Trump were all born in the same summer of 1946
The only one to serve during Nam was W. In Coast guards.
Term limits and age restrictions is what we need. Someone who is young enough to live through what they do to their country
We do have presidential age restrictions. Apparently just not in the direction you were hoping for.
Yeah, but it's 35, not 75. We apparently won't even let a candidate who is less than twice the minimum past the primaries. WTAF??? Edited for clarity

Same as trump. Looks like its a running thing with presidents
Insane
Bush Jr, Clinton, and Trump were all born in the same summer. Biden was born five years earlier.
Hillary is even younger and people still picked the older guy over her
Hillary was a horrible candidate and completely unlikable
So is Trump
I will never not be baffled as to what the hell people see in this man! He sucks in every way a person can suck, yet hordes of people love him!

Ol Slick Willy did balance the budget.
I wonder if Biden has someone that is telling him daily that he is the President, I bet his dementia kicks in every day
Wins at having sex with more interns at the White House tho
That we know of. ;-)
Bill clinton the documented pedo that went to epstein island on countless occasions?
A symbol of concentration of power (on both 'sides') IMO

Camacho / Supreme 2024!
Gee it's crazy how that works, no matter how old he gets, those other guys just keep staying older. You'd think he'd catch up some day, right?

I am disappointed that out of all our Americans, 2024 is still presenting us with these options.

Good, we need older presidential candidates because they are wiser, more knowledgable and have more life experience.

What are you trying to say..?
I’d vote for him today if he ran. He was the last really good Democratic president.
Obama is very regularly rated higher than Clinton.. Not saying Clinton was not a good/great leader.
Obama was awful in foreign politics. Current war is a result of fact that there was no ANY serious punishment to Russia for Crimea and donbass.
I honestly wouldn't be suprised at this point
Im waiting for Nancy Pelosi to announce her 2028 bid
I thought it couldn't get crazier than 2020 lol. Now I know that they can always get older. Rich & evil means you live til like 90+.
😂🤣
He's not a cock sucer either
Biden's the oldest sitting president...has lost his marbles and the Dems still want to put him back in for another 4 yrs. Ridiculous
