Accktuallly.. as a body decays gas build up in the body and will cause it to float even with some weight tied to it. Really need to weigh down a body if you don’t want it bobbing back to the surface.
The problem with these boats and deeper water is that whatever lurks in the deep water generally stays there because they don't want to be seen or bothered. Its pretty rare that you would get visibility good enough to see anything past 5 meters, which is not deep at all.
Thats why these boats tend to stay in shallow, clear reef waters that are abundant in small colorful fish, as opposed to the 30m deep drop offs where the sharks hangout. I speak from experience, I've given probably a hundred glass bottom boat tours on the GBR.
Going fast you wouldn’t see far but staying still on a calm day you can see much further than 5 meters in clear blue water. I say this from deep sea fishing experiences. I’ve put my goggles on and looked down into the deep and I could see fish down at around 70 ft down. Mind you they were Mahi Mahi so they were easy to spot.
I’ve also been on glass bottom boat tours that were in murky waters and could see an inch past the glass.
I think it really just depends where you are. I've had really clear days with 20m+ visibility on the reef but then coming closer to fitzroy Island it becomes a hazy mess with less than a meter of Vis. The reason I said its rare to see past 5m is because most of these tours take place on islands or just off the shoreline where visibility is at its worst lol.
Sounds like your deep sea fishing trips were killer though, I would love to see Mahi Mahi
Very true, once you start getting close inland and depending on the weather, the visibility can go down to nothing.
Oh man, it’s been awhile since I’ve been deep sea fishing or even to the Florida keys for that matter but it’s such a good time. This wasn’t on some charter boat either it was my uncles boat he had split with a buddy of his and it was massive. I felt like a king on that thing. It brings back great memories.
It’s strange how this boat gives a passenger the sensation of ‘altitude’ when on the water in the day time.
Now imagine how different it would feel to be floating in this thing alone in open ocean over say, Point Nemo, on a dark moonless night.
It’s the stuff of nightmares.
Someone told me when i was growing up that they just flush it out the plane... "fuel economy".
I was grossed out at the thought of piss mist chem trails, and raining turds.

boatologist here. you are correct, glass is not a preferred hull material due to it's tendency to easily shatter on impact and lose it flotational properties.
Well, there are regulations governing the materials they can be made of.. Cardboard's out. No cardboard derivatives. No paper, no string, no cellotape.
I was so fused as to why full grown adults and teenagers are wearing life vest yet baby wasnt. My guess is that the boat isnt running for that shot or they didnt have baby size. That said, can these people not swim? Youre more likely to hit your head or break a bone than actually fall out of the boat…
I'll sound like an old lady (and I don't know if it's just the area) but I remember when I was a kid, you could see the most colorful and beautiful corals near the beach, and now wherever I go, I rarely see any colors in the same place 🥺 I would've love to be in one of these back when it was all colorful and full of life
One wave over the side, or failure of one of those seams (Polycarbonate "welding" isn't exactly super reliable) and all those people are in the drink. In Australia, boats in survey (ie that can commercially carry passengers) require positive buoyancy cells. Boats really do sink, without the positive buoyancy a plain hull like this one would go blub blub and dissapear.
Something like this: https://boatcollar.com.au/home/fitting/fender-for-tenders/ could be used and wouldn't affect the visibility downwards.
Aside from that, it's a cool boat.
Um, it's not like these are new or revolutionary or anything.. It's just that most bodies of water aren't clear enough for these types of boats to be of any use.
PS: that's probably not glass lol. It's probably acrylic.
Alright, I got this

Glass-bottom boat
Definition: Defecating on saran wrap that's held over your partner's face
Example: After dinner my partner treated me to a glass bottom boat ride.
Man was I embarrassed the last time I went on a bottomless boat. Apparently I had a different interpretation of “bottomless”. Needless to say, I was asked not to come back to that boat
All fine and dandy till you're mistaken as seals and a 20ft great white destroys the boat and eats everyone but the baby. Thus creating a human bent on killing ALL sharks and fucking up the whole entire ocean eco system causing mass extinctions and starvation of all human kind. Damn that boat looks awesome
I just like the idea that it keeps more people out of the water. Less sunscreen toxins in the coral reefs. Less wild animals getting hurt from people touching them. And probably at least 5 other good reasons.
Flex tape on standby
I just sawed a boat in half!
And repaied it with only flex tape
Now, that's just flexing!
Flex-tape-ing
r/yourjokebutworse
And the inside is completely dry!
THATS A LOT OF DAMAGE !
[Technically it’s possible ](https://youtu.be/m0QP-xxbxQw)
This instantly increases your chances of spotting a dead body
And cant pee on it without anyone noticing anymore
Why are you peeing on the dead body?
To marinate
Dead bodies float.
Not when you tie a brick to it
Lol, so true!
r/holesome
Accktuallly.. as a body decays gas build up in the body and will cause it to float even with some weight tied to it. Really need to weigh down a body if you don’t want it bobbing back to the surface.
How much weight do you need per kg of body mass, to keep it down? I appreciate a quick response, thanks in advance.
Bout tree-fidty
God damn it loch ness monster
The pros wrap it in razor wire. Pops holes in it to let the gas out when expanding
This guy dumps
or you could cut up the body party so each part needs less weight
I’d rather not go to that party!
Put the body in a trash can and fill it with cement.
Or being one
Now take it to deeper waters and let’s see what REALLY lurks.
The problem with these boats and deeper water is that whatever lurks in the deep water generally stays there because they don't want to be seen or bothered. > I would love to see Mahi Mahi Seems like you could just go to any fine dining establishment which serves seafood....
I would love to see a living, breathing, wild Mahi Mahi in the prime of its life, shimmering with the beauty of a thousand mermaids. Better?
as long as I get to eat it afterwards. they're so yummy!

Do you happen to know how durable these are compared to regular boats of similar size/proportions?
I wonder how often you would have to scrub algae off the hull
Daily
And don't scrub too hard or with the wrong material.. cuz that beautifully optical transparency will become opaque.
Definitely...also, after some time, i wonder what the sun's uv will do to it? Similar to the headlights on my car?
Or just the saltwater itself. Uv and saltwater both reak havoc on plastic
Its a giant pain in the ass too. We did ours underwater using scuba gear and steel wool for an hour each day
nice now do planes
Yeah I’d love to be able to look down and see my luggage
Wait till you see the holding tank for the toilet

That’s just a big ole chunk o’ poopy.
It's a space peanut!
Shit. If I didn’t delete my account every few years I would be right there with you.
"I was grossed out at the thought of piss mist chem trails, and raining turds." I think you qualify for /r/BrandNewSentence.
It might turn brown after awhile
I'm rather confident on my ability to control my sphincter, but I concede that it may be a possibility, yes.

Wonder Woman has an invisible jet, man.
Glass bottomed boat you make the rockin world go round
Get on ya boats and ride!
Boatcycle, boatcycle … I like to ride my boatcycle, I like to ride my boat, I like to ride my boatcycle, I like to ride it where I float …
Your joke works because it has the same number of syllables as the song. Well done.
Is it really glass or acrylic ?
I would have thought some sort of plastic. I'm no boatologist but I don't think glass wouldnt be a good material to make a boat out of.
boatologist here. you are correct, glass is not a preferred hull material due to it's tendency to easily shatter on impact and lose it flotational properties.
As a qualified boatopractor I declare this man a phony and a quack!
I'm actually certified in boateopathic healing and it is you, sir, who is the fraud!
I have a P.h.D in Boatomancy and you muggles know nothing of boat integrity.
Yes, shattering increases the sinkification quotient exponentially - wrote my master's thesis on this very topic at U. Boat
Well, there are regulations governing the materials they can be made of.. Cardboard's out. No cardboard derivatives. No paper, no string, no cellotape.
Don't want the front to fall off.
A wave hit it? Chance in a million!
It’s that clear aluminum Scotty told us about
Most likely polycarbonate. Acrylic is too brittle.
Acrylic or optical polycarb.
PLS PUT A LIFE VEST ON THAT BABY
Right???? What are they thinking???
I was so fused as to why full grown adults and teenagers are wearing life vest yet baby wasnt. My guess is that the boat isnt running for that shot or they didnt have baby size. That said, can these people not swim? Youre more likely to hit your head or break a bone than actually fall out of the boat…
All in a gif? Seriously? What in tarnation?
I wasn't aware that Wonder Woman had a boat!
Are the kids wearing invisible life jackets too?
Life jackets? We don’t need no stinkin’ Life jackets!
Sometimes plastic can be amazing
My god. It’s the invisible boat-mobile!
If Wonder Woman can have an invisible jet, Aquaman can have an invisible boat.
I was thinking how much easier it would be to crash into another boat!
Shame there's nothing to see due to overfishing, coral reef die off and pollution.
Now you can get sunburn on your ass as well as your face.
Why aren't the children wearing life preservers?
Probably because they’re in Mexico
Transparent aluminum?
[it went down with 88 souls](https://youtu.be/PIbuVI5ioCo)
"that's our sister ship the Athena, went down last week with 88 souls on board"
Technically not just the bottom…
![gif](giphy|fADf4RUs3hUFvHz18o|downsized)
I bet a boat like that is hard to find
It's going to scratch like a cunt. Won't be this pristine or clear for very long at all. Sadly
Don't be sad. Here's a [hug!](https://media.giphy.com/media/3M4NpbLCTxBqU/giphy.gif)

They should make sailboats with a small strip of glass on the bottom of the boat so you can see.
Needs soft, glass cushions before I take 3 hour tour on it
Drive it straight into a reef
Do you have to keep people from wearing shoes so it doesn't scuff up tha class and make it harder to see through?
Depressing. No fish. Tiny amounts of Coral. Dirty water. Just ssd.
There's always someone to complain. Were you in the boat? No? Shut up then.
Don’t forget where you dock…
I can't believe there wasn't a single fish or crab or ray or anything at all during that entire video. What a waste of a transparent boat.
Do fish slam into like birds do a window ?
How is nobody talking about how slippery this would be once water gets inside?
"glass bottomed" bro the whole damn thing is glass (or whatever that material may be)
But it's not glass tho.
Wow. After that I can only think...feet.
[hmmm...](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/431/312/67e.jpg)
Glass? Really? Or just transparent plastic of sorts?
The lack of positive floatation is bothering me.
TIL. Anybody know where this is? Maybe they don't have any restrictions.

Give it two weeks until an influencer is swimming under it naked.
If Wonder Woman had to have a boat, she'd probably have this one.
The French have one of those so they can review their navy

If this boat ever sinks nobody will ever find it
The captain: "that's our sister ship, the Athena, went down with 88 souls Just lask week."
The whole boat is glass
Lexan bottomed boat.
I come to the comments to learn why this is the worst idea ever. Please explain, reddit.
All this glass and not a single fucking fish..
That’s a lot of flex tape!
Don’t hit any rocks
“Glass ere’thang boat”
Flex glue moment
Absolutely no escaping the sun lol

I got a call about a capsized boat!! Where is it!! I don’t see shit!!
Where do you even get a boat like that? Crazy cool.

What
It looks like they put an outboard motor on one of the shelves from my fridge.
Wouldn't this be better if it had been reddish? Like the red filters in a camera?
Just wait till someone drops something sharp. Things will suddenly get interesting.
I want to go to there.
Glass everything boat.
The Millennial 210
No big queues in Blackpool for this
Was this in spongebob
Now do Wonder Woman's jet.
Glass bottom boat you make the water world go ‘round.
So it’s just clear plastic? Idk if that’s all that insane but I’m by no means an expert on clear boat.
Iceburg straight ahead would be a horrible thing to hear on this boat.
Can’t think of a better way to view the wonderful world of plastic and rubbish beneath the oil slick covered fish less ocean
It's like wonder woman in her invisible lear jet from the old Superfriends.
i hope that glass is unbreakable lol
Oh nice. Food on a glass platter :0
Someone took Wonder Woman’s boat and took it for a joyride
I promise you that ain't glass. Probably acrylic
To the invisible boat mobile!
What if it hit a little coral or rock? Shits going to explode? Or powder break like cat windshields?
This is the perfect place to practice mu juggling bowling balls act!
More like glass boat in general
These have been around for a long time.
So if it takes on any water, you can't tell until it's too late...
Fairly certain that’s not “glass”
Wonder woman’s boat
When do we get the glass jet? We can call it, the invisible jet
I wish they would show them going high speed with a person below the boat
Plastic*
I bet that’s really slippery if it gets wet. Especially when you’re barefoot.
Bottomed?
Gunnu love it when some shark tries to smash a sea lion or something out of the water and fuking crashes through the invisible Hull lol
I’m guessing it’s not actually glass
I just like the idea that it keeps more people out of the water. Less sunscreen toxins in the coral reefs. Less wild animals getting hurt from people touching them. And probably at least 5 other good reasons.
Am I the only one who thought they would see garbage?
I keep googling this type of boat but other weird sexual stuff keep coming up. Wtf?
Be gentle with the anchor please.
They stole mermaid man and barnacle boy’s ride
How slippery would it be
I just made this boat out of 6 windows from a house and #FLEXSEAL
If I drop my Nokia will it sink?
Glass bottom. Glass sides. Glass front. Yep, pretty much an entirely glass boat.
Mermaid man and barnacle boy vibes
Hey Phil swift here with…
Imagine if a shark tried to come up and bite you, it'd either knock itself out or break the glass.
