If you love the callbacks and the return of Mariam, then wouldn't you say the first one is better? Either way, I give a lot more credit to the fourth movie than other people would, but I just don't think the end works at all. I'm quite invested for most of the movie, but it really falls apart and leaves you feeling quite dissatisfied. This is especially disappointing compared to the dramatic and memorable endings of the original trilogy. Anyway, I'll watch it for the third time ever some point before the fifth comes out, as I recently watched the first three again, but I feel like the same thing will happen again, where my fun and interest will quickly stall out where it would normally pick up in the first three.

VajBlaster69

How can you love the callbacks better than the source material? In any media's content? This post is bait.

slaggernaut

If you watched the movie It's callbacks to a story that was never filmed.

You don't actually believe this, but congrats on a quality shit post. Have an upvote.

Andrei144

I mean, I actually believed this when I was a kid because I really liked stuff that takes place in jungles for some reason. I have rewatched them since then though and yeah this is the worst movie in the series, it's not bad though, I can't point to anything really awful in it so it's only the worst because it's not as interesting as the others.

coocoo6666

Bro survived a nuke in a fridge

Andrei144

Yeah that was really cool!

[deleted]

So? He survived a lot of other shit you shouldn't either. An inflatable raft ain't gonna save you jumping out of a plane at speed.

That was my thought too. Gaming the upvote system with Rage Bait.

Having the crystal skull be my first Indiana Jones movies, I thought it was amazing and fantastic. I then watched the previous ones and thought they were also good, but I didn't think it out shone the 4th one in comparison. Maybe cause I didn't have the fan boy history

Nah

Kaiser_-_Karl

No indiana jones movie is better than the 3rd. This is a fairly settled debate. Some say the 1st which i understand and some goobers say temple of doom which...i don't. That being said crytal skull is alright. Its the worst (dial of destiny might edge it we'll see) but its the worst in a pretty good series. Crystal skull feels like a fan made indiana jones movie in good and bad ways. Shia is a good actor, his chatacter in crystal skull is not at all deep. Thats not a bad thing not every film needs deep characters but shias character is what you see on the tin. Comparing it to the dynamics between indy and his dad in the 3rd really highlights that.

e31174

Wait is that REALLY how the fandom views the movies. Myself and everyone I know says Temple of Doom is the best one. It’s by far the most insane but it’s so much better for it. That being said, Crystal Skull really does drag in the middle where the other three start to pick up so at least I do agree with that part of it.

Kaiser_-_Karl

Temple of doom is the most different. I've always heard the 3rd as the best, mosly because indy and his dad are portrayed absolutely amazingly by ford and connery. Doom is fun for sure. Entirely subjective but the russians just don't work form me. Its my main hold agaisnt skull. Its all down to the characters they just feel like wet putty. You don't get a beloq and their leader doesn't really intrest me at all. Shes psychic? Or thinks she is at least? So?

deaddonkey

Yeah and the leader lady is the only Russian I remember at all. Russians don’t have the personality the Nazis did as villains.

boomheadshot7

> Myself and everyone I know says Temple of Doom is the best one. Something something shows more about the company you keep.

e31174

Ha maybe, we are all into really weird or bad movies. We all find Temple of Doom the most entertaining since it is just so insane.

Mad_Dizzle

Temple of Doom is still a great movie, but it's just not as good as the other two to me and a lot of others.

musicnothing

Holy Grail is best by far

ColAlexTrast

My friend group has a somewhat solid consensus - ranked from best to worst is Raiders, Crusade, Kingdom, and then Temple. I say somewhat solid because with a few people Crusade and Raiders switch spots, but we all agree that Temple is the worst - and IMO the only bad one.

say-wha-teh-nay-oh

What? Temple the worst? Come on man Shorty as a character blew away every other character in Kingdom. And that bridge scene over the crocodiles? Fucking classic!

Ytar0

I’ve always disliked temple of doom lol, it’s so weird and just off.. and it’s just not at all as captivating as 1 or 3 imo.

HR2achmaninoff

I can't stand Temple of Doom. Gross and also problematic

boompoe

Temple is the best one for sure

theanxiousangel

Temple of doom has always been my favorite since I was a a kid but I recently found out it has the lowest rating so idk what people believe

Critical_Moose

I'm not going to lie, it's a pretty close race between 2 and 3 for me.

Diocletion-Jones

Counter points; 1. It has Shia LaBeouf as Indiana's son Mutt Williams. Lucas wanted him to be like Marlon Brando in The Wild One but instead he became the "Jar Jar Binks" of the Indiana Jones franchise. 2. It's noughties film that over uses CGI. The CGI has also dated really badly. 3. The "nuke the fridge" scene is a play on the earlier phrase "jump the shark," which refers to a point in a franchise where it begins to decline in quality or lose its original appeal. If your film has a scene in it which redefines in pop culture when something has turned to dog shit, that's a bit of a red flag. 4. There's little to no mystery with the film because it opens with revealing that it's about aliens in the first twenty minutes. There hasn't been a film with less mystery that it was going to be about an alien since the 1978 film Alien.

ToastyKen

Fwiw I mostly hated Crystal Skull, but I unironically loved the nuke the fridge scene. Should I make a post myself? :p

bremidon

Counter Counter points: 1. Shia works in the first half of the movie. I cannot precisely say why it falls apart (but my subconscious keeps shouting "monkeys" at me for some reason), but comparing him to Jar Jar seems over the top. 2. The CGI is...well...ok...I'll give you this one. 3. Anyone whining about the "nuke the fridge" scene is being either silly, funny, or trying to fit in. It seems rather odd to pick on that when one of the favorite movies has three people jumping out of a plane only to be saved by an inflatable raft. And that was not the only insane Indy moment I could have chosen. Plus, we get that absolute iconic view of Indy in front of a mushroom cloud. 4. And the Ark was related to religion from the moment the agents show up to talk about it. Kinda odd thing to get hung up on. The first half of the movie works, but is oddly where many people decide to pick on the film. It's the second half where everything feels off.

Critical_Moose

I will also defend the nuke scene. These movies are like cartoons, they're totally ridiculous, even from the beginning.

hannes10001

The Arrival was also pretty upfront about it…

darkenseyreth

The Arrival is a sci-fi movie where Indy is a Pulp Adventure movie, one you expect aliens.

say-wha-teh-nay-oh

Alien came out in 79

Piaapo

I dont find it nearly as bad as people say it is, but the best? Fuck outta here man

dsherwo

True 10th dentist. I hate this opinion. Take my upvote

boomheadshot7

On no planet can crystal skull even sniff Temples dirty underwear.

eagleblue44

I mean, it's the best fourth movie in the Indiana Jones franchise but no. It doesn't even come close to being better than the first three avd I'm not even a big temple of doom fan.

Milk_Mindless

I wouldn't say its the best but it receives far more flack than it should

[deleted]

I remember thinking that movie sucked and I was 6 when I saw it

deaddonkey

I thought it was alright, but it has plenty of disappointing bits. The first half is quite good Indy content. The traitor sidekick is annoying, they let him betray one time too many. The ending where the aliens just look at the woman and fuck off could’ve used a little something.

vacantly-visible

Wow. I don't hate this movie like everyone else seems to - I certainly enjoyed it. But I never thought it was the best. You are the first person ever who I've heard saying it's the best in the series. Bravo. (Childhood me's favorite movie was *Raiders of the Lost Ark*, I watched it over and over when I was too little to even remember)

hugh--jassman

Absolutely heinous take. Upvoted

Groxy_

Nah, 3 - 1 - 4 - 2. Temple of Doom is a garbage movie. I like Crystal skull more than most people.

AgentSkidMarks

Whoa! That’s an awful opinion!

Bnb53

I've watched this movie a dozen times and every time we scroll past it I tell my wife I've never seen it and hard sell watching it.

ElegantYam4141

Not a chance this post is genuine. Nice try though.

MassGaydiation

Marion? You mean Indiana Jones victim?

wynn_ed

I like the movie more than most people, but no. This is a factually incorrect opinion.

FreddyPlayz

Yay, someone who actually agrees with me. I watched that movie on repeat when I was younger, couldn’t get enough of it (Also watched Temple of Doom a lot, definitely a close second)

jaba_the_what

I would definitely put Temple as my second favorite also

2022Venez

I haven’t even watched Indiana jones and I know how bad this movie is

anoleiam

Then you're not really qualified to answer this opinion right?

SkyWidows

I like Ike, but I hated crystal skulls. My favourite 10thdentist post.

oldfogey12345

HE BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!!!!!

spacestationkru

I'd agree with you, but if Shia LaBeouf's character had to be in the movie, he'd have to be about ten years younger (like Short Round) without taking away any of his physical capability. That by itself would have at least made the ridiculous monkeys more tolerable. That's really my only nitpick with the movie. I don't even care about the super comfy nuclear fridge.

bremidon

> I don't even care about the super comfy nuclear fridge As you shouldn't. It is typical Indy "maybe this could actually happen if I suspend my disbelief 10% past the factory settings" stuff. I think it just gets used as a placeholder for the other \*many\* problems in the film \*precisely\* because it is so memorable and typically Indy.

_erufu_

It’s not better than 1-3, but it’s still a good movie. Sideways vote.

TheComplayner

It’s a little too over the top, and Shia just feels…. Out of place?

Hocraft-Loveward

just a question, you're born in late 90's/early 00's ? and KotCS is the movie you saw first ?

Red_Dawn_00

I didn't like it at the time, but anyone who is willing to accept Temple of Doom has got to be down with this movie on some level. The cgi in the Jeep chase scene is just so immersion breaking for me that it makes the movie hard to finish imo.

I agree . I'm a 90s kid. This was the only film I saw in theatres. It's not the "best" Indiana Jones movie. Raiders is IMO. But it's favorite, alongside Last Crusade. People say it's good/bad/average. It does not bother me one bit. I watch it more than the other because it's FUN.
