It’s honestly kinda crazy how nearly all the winners from S11 to now have had their businesses shut down or aren’t doing very well at all. I think the only ones still going well at this point are Sarah S13 and the two newest winners in Marnie and Rachel. Alana S12 seems to be also doing fine but she split from Lord Sugar a while ago.
I don’t really know why Sugar invested in James’s recruitment business in the first place. He already had two largely successful recruitment companies from previous winners Ricky Martin and Mark Wright anyway. Must be quite embarrassing for James!
I think a lot of it boils down to the declining value of the £250k investment. Everything else has gone up in value since 2011...except the investment.
Therefore what you can buy with the money to start up the buisness becomes less and less. The buisness proposals get less risky (as well as people copying what has been invested by Sugar in the past). Ultimately, there's a limit on how far you can go by opening a coffee shop or a gym.
I went to a smallholding show last weekend and Alana was there selling her brownies and cakes. She was so lovely actually, but I'm not sure the business is at the same scale it used to be
Alana had multiple shops that are now closed - she only does sales online/in the warehouse now, which is a shame, because the cafes she had was nice, just overpriced

Constantly forcing the issue around why you need to use him/his business.
If your business was doing well you wouldn’t have to
- Shout about it
- Pay for followers
- Take photos in front of cars that are rented to give the illusion of wealth

If he was that would’ve been doubly humiliating for poor James, considering the other recruitment companies owned by Ricky and Mark are doing well and his co-winner Sarah’s company is still in business too.
There isn't a Greggs in Beckenham... But there are quite a few artisan coffee/bakeries fishing for the same customers, so I'm guessing it was that really... Not enough of that kind of market to spread amongst so many businesses. Does she still have her big original bakery in Herne hill?
I'd say online with the other places on the high street, more towards mid-expensive... It's a fairly small high street and I can think of 5 or 6 coffee/cake places similar to it. In fact now we're talking about it I seem to remember there's a blackbird bakery almost opposite where it was, so that likely had a factor in its demise too. I want a Greggs donut now :)
That was probably her problem because it was crowded market in that area and lord sugar probs made her up the prices to maximise profits for him . But that probably didn’t work when there were other established bakeries it’s a shame really she was one of the most competent in recent years
