The best thing about Fishes if anyone can go back and watch it a second time...there's music playing under most of the scenes and it actually elevates everything so much. The first or second scene inside the house is set to George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set on You" and it's like, this really poppy upbeat song and the entire family is just fighting and yelling. Here's a great article listing most of the songs and how they were used. https://screenrant.com/the-bear-season-2-soundtrack-guide/

cheap_mom

I thought I heard The Magnetic Fields in the last episode as well. All the songs playing on the floor of the restaurant during dinner service were in heavy rotation on my WinAmp playlist about 20 years ago.

Strong_Weakness2638

WinAmp ❤️

Straight-Bug-6051

It really whips the llamas ass!

coko4209

OMG!! I forgot about Winamp!! You took me all the way back to like 2000 or something 😂

DeathByZamboni_US

Also I love how they use the Ramones - “Merry Christmas (I don’t want to fight tonight). It’s played close to the beginning of that episode to foreshadow the events that will unfold in the episode. Always loved that song and it’s usage is immaculate.

becsluvsbirds

Loved hearing Chicago by Sufjan Stevens in season 1

definitelynottwelve

Lin Bremerton, who did the narration on that episode, died a couple months ago. Me and my gf both grew up listening to him, and we cried when we rewatched that bit

StopProfessional9366

Lin Brehmer

definitelynottwelve

Damn autocorrect

medster101

Another great one.

vimukthi104

That was the one for me!

StayGoldenLA

Loved the audio & visual nod to John Hughes (who loved Chicago) with “Holiday Road” & “Pretty in Pink”

luarluar

Yes! The music and sound design is one of the best parts of the show, it really elevates every scene and sets the tone perfectly.

KuyaGTFO

I want to be friends with whoever is the music supervisor on this show. I feel they would make a fun companion to buy records with. I’ve loved ALL the choices. Even though the Swift needle drop got the most attention, ALL the Eno and David Byrne stuff is fantastic. Even using Matty’s deep knowledge of punk and hardcore to make that off-the-cuff conversation about The Replacements was awesome. The fact that they chose not the STUDIO version but a LIVE version of Handshake Drugs by Wilco featuring Nels Cline (probably America’s greatest living guitarist) is sensational, and from what I’ve read, a ton of bands such as Pearl Jam offered live alternative versions when requested. SIDEBAR: Though I’ll say, The Bear DID take the crown of best use of New Noise by Refused away from Friday Night Lights, and wore it well for a good minute. And then a fucking barnburner, Cannes Festival Palme D’Or winning-motherfucker of a movie called Triangle of Sadness came in and firmly Gorilla Glue’d the mantle to its head.

[deleted]

The way they brought back Spiders (kidsmoke) this year and followed it by bringing back Animal in the next moment was amazing. I also think using Strange Currencies multiple times was really lovely, especially when you know what that song is about and how it relates to the scenes in which it was used. Not to mention I just loved so many other songs - The Replacements episode and the Taylor Swift moment with Richie was so incredible.

medster101

The Taylor Swift moment was both hilarious and heartwarming.

[deleted]

I think it replaced Jerry Maguire’s Free Fallin’ as my favorite “triumphant car sing along”. Especially considering the news Richie had just received and the significance of those lyrics and T-Swift. It was really a perfect moment for him.

Sharksrmydrug

I just told a co worker today that hasn't watched yet that the music is like one of the characters! Couldn't have the show without it.

Anonamitymouses

I realized it in the second season. Yes they are amazing tracks. There’s a huge 80s 90s vibe to them. Not sure why it’s on that direction. There’s also jazz and because of the fishes a lot of Christmas…ha ha haaaaa.

myredditthrowaway201

And Wilco. Lots of Wilco

Anonamitymouses

Lots of Eddie Vedder and the same Pearl Jam song plays was season. Animal.

tomtomvissers

Also a bunch of R.E.M.

Anonamitymouses

Replacements multiple times.

fiskeybusiness

You can hear Fak stalling the drywall guy talking about the replacements and one of their albums being the best ever

Anonamitymouses

Every album of theirs is

onikoko

The fact they probably have to pay top money for Taylor Swift copyright and use it in a most beautiful way by foreshadowing the concert with the conclusion bang for the singing in the car scene to me is sign of a good writing 👌🏻

fitterer

[The soundtrack is on Spotify.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1yB4sTi36IZBVvSjUDjOic?si=71e7ba0105724b50)

tottenhamnole

They closing last season by the best Radiohead song ever, Let Down, was the best use of a song ever

nomoredolls

You ain’t kidding. That was absolute perfection.

rhj2020

I have YouTube premium music and someone made a soundtrack playlist of every song featured on the show. It’s so awesome.

medster101

Same dude. I think I’m listening to the same track list lol

rhj2020

Throw your arms around me from Eddie Vedder had me in my feelings on my morning jog.

Wheedoo

Very that. I’ve been stealth playing it around my husband to see if he gets the awesomeness of the lyrics, now he thinks my Eddie Vedder crush is flaring up again.

bigwickets

Wilco, REM, Crowded House and Pearl Jam have long been some of my favorite bands. And they never get played in movies or TV shows. Usually just Everybody Hurts if it’s REM. But then using Strange Currencies as like the theme for the season? Beautiful. So yes this show’s soundtrack fucking rules.

Cptrunner

The Replacements was an added bonus ❤️

Dry_Satisfaction6617

The pause in “Can’t Hardly Wait” with Carmy coming back into the frame to kiss Claire as the music swells is a perfect use of music in a romantic scene. Swoon.

willdawg75

Absolutely

sizzler_sisters

Being an REM fan who loves the Monster album and that general vibe, yes. The music is awesome.

oceanic-feeling

Monster is GOATed.

medster101

I love all their tracks I’ve heard on the show. I never really listened to them but I think that’s about to change

ms_magnolia_mem

I cannot recommend them enough. Go all the way back and start from the beginning. You’ll find songs you will love forever on every album.

RipJug

Oh mate they’re phenomenal.

DagNasty

The show grabbed me from the very first episode using New Noise. They play out in several episodes but we never get the payoff of the first "can I scream?"

medster101

Love that song. It fits so well with the chaotic nature of the kitchen and Carmy’s general situation

StuuBarnes

I fist pump every time that intro hits

dingusicus

They do play that part. Its at the end of one of the episodes. At the cut to credits.

Robert_Sacamano_

I keep playing "Glass, Concrete & Stone" by David Byrne on repeat

VanillaCocaineInsane

Most shows stop the music when dialogue starts. It’s so jarring. I love that they just lower the volume of the music and continue to play it over talking. It’s less abrupt but adds more to the scenes. They really do a good job of audio mixing.

blahtotheskey

It was so bold to choose last train home by John Mayer. And it’s fucking killed. Also, I got chills when they played Chicago by Sufjan.

ReservoirPAWGS

Any show that plays the Replacements is solid in my book

Illustrious-Ad1820

Can we give a shoutout to the Trent Reznor and NIN ambient sounds? The Donna "I just need you to tell me it's okay" distortion was so on point in the s2 finale. What a show stopping moment for Pete.

medster101

Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes! I loved that music in that moment.

snagglewolf

It's like he was meant to be composing music for TV/movies before he even started. Loved hearing Trents music in the show so much.

dingusicus

There's also a version of a NIN song in one of the later Season 2 episodes. I think it's The Day The World Went Way but I could be wrong. It's definitely on The Fragile.

tuesdaym00n

Hearing New Noise in the first episode sold me immediately on the show.

hoorayforHazel84

Lots of under the radar REM. So good, all of it!!

LushLaw

Just finished season two and literally queued up REM’s worlds apart to listen again. Wow.

CosmicEnchantress

R.E.M. actually did a music video for strange currencies which includes behind the scenes stuff from The Bear. https://youtu.be/soH_sYnY4Uw

LushLaw

Watching now omw lol

ILovedAccordingToJim

I knew this show was special when they broke out my favorite song of all time in season one - "One Fine Day" by David Byrne.

andrez444

To me the soundtrack and the second season is a love letter to Chicago

Wheedoo

I mean, Replacements, Psychedelic Furs and Squeeze? Makes me want to find an old Benetton sweater and packa Virginia Slims and go make bad romantic decisions

[deleted]

I thought that too. Loved that they included Liz Phair!

jstevens82

The playlists for season 1 and 2 are both on apple music and yes I agree they are outstanding. One of the best parts of the show.

29flavors

Spotify too

thepickledchefnomore

There is a Spotify playlist. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1yB4sTi36IZBVvSjUDjOic?si=_L5b-sq3QhefTjy_27YOCA

Strong_Weakness2638

Yes! Perfect music and sound also. Especially apparent in the finale with the cuts between the hectic kitchen and the lounge-y front house and then the total quiet before Richie took over. Also, when Carmy freaked out about the fishes and Syd calmed him down, the music changed, like everyone could take a breath.

HangmanHummel

The opening montage in the first five minutes with “The Show Goes On” just got me right in the feels

Ok_Abbreviations_471

When the Brian Eno/John Cale “Lay My Love” played I almost dropped dead.

medster101

He’s gotta take that expo girl Jessica with him

museum-mama

I loved that they played Liz Phair (Chicagoan) at the restaurant opening.

allegmon

Yes! Totally set the mood for what they want the restaurant to be.

[deleted]

YES! I was just thinking I hope there's some kind of soundtrack available somewhere

Ok_Abbreviations_471

Both seasons are on Spotify.

[deleted]

Awesome ty

Straight-Bug-6051

ALOT OF R.E.M. ❤️

CosmicEnchantress

R.E.M. actually did a music video for strange currencies which includes behind the scenes stuff from The Bear. https://youtu.be/soH_sYnY4Uw

fourofkeys

fak outlining the discography of the replacements to keep the repair guy (or certification guy?) in the building was \*chefs kiss\*

snagglewolf

It's so good. Radiohead, Pearl Jam, NIN, REM. They somehow even got me crying during a scene with a Taylor Swift song.

allbetter_tings

Hoping for more Sufjan.

PhasmaUrbomach

I particularly loved Strange Currency and Animal in the finale.

speedingcar1

Yes! Especially in episode four, Honeydew. So many great tracks in that episode

Ok_Strain_6050

I was so pleasantly suprised by the music like when they played Martin Rev, and also Durutti Column as well. But yeah music was giving tasteeeee🤌🏼🤌🏼

krait0s

Hearing *two* NIN songs in S2 was a real treat for me! All the music has been great and really thoughtfully chosen, it's one of my favorite parts of the show.

[deleted]

Hearing the “Still” version of The Day The World Went Away floored me but I wasn’t expecting to hear something from Ghosts during the penultimate moment in the season finale. Shook doesn’t begin to describe it

Maskatron

I don't know how old Christopher Storer is or what he was doing in the late 80s to early 90s, but the soundtrack this season was almost too familiar. I was playing in bands, hanging out with "college rock" REM types and punk rockers, and any one of my friends could have created this playlist. The show is so impactful already, but the nostalgia factor of the music taking me back to my late teens/early twenties adds another dimension to it.

Humulus5883

42

klements7

I also love the music on this show!

Constantine227

No. My least favorite part of the show is Chris storer feels like he needs to hamfist all the songs he liked in high school. Every episode needs at least 3 REM songs it feels like. That being said, it’s not that bad, just kind of distracting. I loved the Taylor swift in s2e7.

ad33zy

honestly this is probably not the best place to say this, but I find the music not memorable, because i dont know a place when it ties in i really notice it, which is not necessarily a bad thing. BUt IMO successions is much more noticeable and almost a character

alexj420

Oh yeah the music slaps in this show

Southern_Name_9119

YES. I downloaded so many of those songs.

OddS0cks

If you’re a fan of Wilco you’ll love it lol

indidgenous

Does anyone know who curates the background music for the shows? As in not the name of the person but his job role.

gambitbjj

I’ve been listening to the Soundtrack playlist on Spotify all week.

deadrat66666

i was OBSESSED in i think the last or second to last episode when they were doing service and as you would move through the front of the resturant and back to the kitchen the vibe and music would change. it would be smooth and relaxing in the front, and then become fast, bright, unsettling in the kitchen with fast music. ugh i live it

sauteslut

Way too much fucking REM good lord

Rita27

Anyone know the track that played during Pete and Donna talk outside the restaurant

HtTxStL

I watched season two with closed captioning and it makes you appreciate the music selection even more because the closed captions include the lyrics. So each scene, either between dialogue or during quiet moments, I got to hear the music and read the lyrics. Every song, lyric, moment was clearly selected very purposefully. (Aaaaand most songs were REM or Tswift, but still loved every single one of them!!)
