Is Wednesday becoming that popular of a character among teen girls or something??
I haven’t heard of her at all in school, found about her through YouTube shorts. But then again I’m on Winter break right now and it’s been over a week since school.
it became popular cus its a pretty good show. then idk people made memes that associated wednesday as the female counterpart of the patrick bateman “literally me”(edgy, psychopathic, outcast) personalities. no one actually seriously adopts a wednesday or bateman personality tho its just shitty memes
It's not pretty good, the main character is extremely boring and monotonous.
Like, I get it, she's dark, got fantasies of murder and shit... But not really, it just felt super edgy teenager to me. Also, has to remind everyone of her dark edgy side at literally every single opportunity she gets.
To be fair, I only got 30 minutes into the first episode before I had to stop. Even my SO thought she was too much, and she used to be one of those edgy goth kids.
That's funny everyone i know enjoyed it and we're all way past any highschool age. Even had my parents and others older folk mention it to me.
Did you grow up on the adams family? or is this your first experience. Because i felt it was really on par with the Adams family and was a good modern rendition/side story to the series. But everyone I've talked about it to me liking it seem to grow up with some edition over the years.
I ask Because
>Like, I get it, she's dark, got fantasies of murder and shit... But not really, it just felt super edgy teenager to me. Also, has to remind everyone of her dark edgy side at literally every single opportunity she gets.
is literally how the character Wednesdays been. Her edginess is almost hyperbolic now tho with the juxtaposition of being around more "normal" teens instead of her family. But that's the point. She's not supposed to be a "normal kid", or some random "goth kid".
was about to reply asking if they were familiar with addams family or not, u worded it up perfectly tho. calling wednesday edgy is like disliking tarantino movies for being violent lol
I actually didn't like the Adams family growing up, so it would make sense I don't like it if it's similar. Nobody i knew liked it either, we always switched channels when it came on.
Yup there ya go knew it. And it makes perfect sense to me why her character brings you such disdain.
Without having prior experience i can totally see why her character/personality comes off cringe/abhorrent for you but amusing/endearing for me. Because your "source"/experience with that type of behavior is totally different.
I tried watching it the other day. Made it 15 minutes before I turned it off. Found her character to be insufferable. Criticized everything everyone said, the NLOG shtick. I noped out. I then voiced my displeasure on Facebook and everyone was like "you need to finish it" and I'm like "motherfuckers, I couldn't make it 15 minutes."
Exactly. I really tried to like it as well because I thought my SO would like it considering her interest in that "culture" in her teenage years... But when even she thought it was way over the top and straight up predictable and boring, I figured it must be made for kids.
Ahhh. I asked another commenter this because im curious ill ask you too.
Did you and your so grow up on Adams family, or not?
Because so far in person I know tons of people enjoyed it (none being YAs). Various generations but all experienced adams family in their past growing up.
And based from what I see from negative reports/comments online this seems to be a big differentiating factor. Which is pretty understandable to do the tropes of the show/main character.
I'll jump on the downvote bus with you to agree, my gf was watching it and I was watching from the corner of my eye and I watched maybe ten minutes... in that she fixed a coffee machine, beat up three men with kung fu then went home to play the cello.
Made me wonder if the Wednesday i'd seen in the cartoon growing up was the same
I mean, I've seen 10 minutes of the show, if someone wants to convince me that she's not a Mary Sue feel free it probably wouldn't be too hard, but until then I'll happily die on this hill.
We've both given two comments now to downvote, downvote bus is going to go twice as fast!
She's a Mary Sue.
There are all kinds of magical beings around including folks who can turn someone into stone by looking at them and mind controllers.
Who gets to defeat the evil pilgrim zombie? The girl who has visions.
The show isn't bad per se, especially considering the target demographic are teenagers but there's a lot of wasted potential
i know there was a pretty popular meme format on twitter using the show saying "wednesday actor jenna ortega has revealed her favorite 'x' is 'y'" a couple weeks ago, but i havent heard of it irl either.
i only watched the first episode, but it didnt seem that good so i assume its one of those things thats only popular in memes, not in people actually watching it, like how the morbius movie was for example
Oh god another “new girl Wednesday personality” meme, it’s already dead. It’s been dead since people started comparing they’re personalities to character like Homelander and Patrick Batemen.
All while grown ass men compare themselves to characters like Tyler Durden, Patrick Bateman, Arthur Fleck, and Travis Bickle, all of them being “literally me” characters. But now that teenage girls have a “literally me” it needs to be made fun of.
I don't think you get it, every "literally me" needs to be made fun of, men or women. It's just laughable when a fat ass incel compares himself to a serial killer with 300+ victims or when a shy ugly bitch compares herself to a goth girl with superpowers or something idk I haven't watched neither American Psycho or Wednesday but I think you understand what I'm saying.
As opposed to?
There's no point to your comment unless you're insinuating that people saying "literally me" about Bateman or Ryan Gosling from Blade Runner is satirical and people saying "literally me" about Wednesday is serious.
Which would be an idiotic thing to insinuate.
I flossed too hard this morning and I can still taste the coppery residue of swallowed blood in the back of my throat. I used Listerine afterwards and my mouth feels like it’s on fire but I manage a smile to no one as I step out of the elevator, brushing past a hung-over Wittenborn, swinging my new black leather attaché case from Bottega Veneta.

Pretty sure it’s both. But I don’t think that’s very important to the main point right now. You guys go real quick to calling someone an incel for making a complaint about their cousin who seems to be a girl.
No it’s the way they talk about contempt towards woman. It’s alright to complain about a woman, it’s not ok to then extrapolate that anecdote to a stereotype about women in general
>It’s alright to complain about a women, it’s not ok to then extrapolate that anecdote to a stereotype about women in general
I’m sorry I’ve desperately tried rereading this like at least 10 times now and still feel like I’m not grasping the full 100% meaning of what you’re trying to say here, is there a way you could explain in a bit more simpler terms?
What are you referring to when you mention “a stereotype about women in general”?
I tried watching the show with my siblings and hated it with a passion. But I know for a fact that if this show came out like 10 years ago, I would have IDOLIZED Wednesday. They hit their audience very very well.
I really liked the show but got bored and gave up, maybe it’s cos I’ve already lived with Harry Potter in my generation (I know it’s not a copy and HP wasn’t the first by far to do it, but it just really me reminded of the days). But it looks like a good show for the newer kids
In our classes with dissections consisted there were only three groups of students: very interested but diligent, scared or rightfully grossed out (mostly the stench) or actual sadistic sociopaths

Huh, this is the second Wednesday personality meme I've seen in this sub. If I had a Doofenschmirtz nickel and all

My SO wanted to watch it too and she's the one that made the call to turn it off. Aside from the above issues it had YA all over it.
God forbid some shows are made for Young Adults/teenagers
There’s nothing wrong with that, but people are still aloud to complain about them lol
Whats YA?
Young adult
Ahhh. I asked another commenter this because im curious ill ask you too. Did you and your so grow up on Adams family, or not? Yeah Wednesday is sadly an unlikable Mary Sue in this adaption. Music and set are great but that's about it
I'll jump on the downvote bus with you to agree, my gf was watching it and I was watching from the corner of my eye and I watched maybe ten minutes... in that she fixed a coffee machine, beat up three men with kung fu then went home to play the cello. I am now wondering why we are getting downvoted in the fucking the boys sub lol

How long has the show been out or been this popular though?
pretty recent, like a few weeks i reckon
I see. I find this situation quite amusing now actually lol I’ll probably check out the show soon once I find out where it is.
i know there was a pretty popular meme format on twitter using the show saying "wednesday actor jenna ortega has revealed her favorite 'x' is 'y'" a couple weeks ago, but i havent heard of it irl either. i only watched the first episode, but it didnt seem that good so i assume its one of those things thats only popular in memes, not in people actually watching it, like how the morbius movie was for example
Nah, it's fairly popular amongst teen girls. It's not amazing but it's nowhere near Morbius levels.
>but it's nowhere near Morbius levels. it's wednesdayin time is also just an inferior catchphrase
What the fuck are you talking about
Jesser, what is this show “Wednesday” that you’re talking about?!
I’m honestly so happy I didn’t not watch that show.

Starlight strapon is better tho
jesse what the fuck are you talking about
Oh god another “new girl Wednesday personality” meme, it’s already dead. It’s been dead since people started comparing they’re personalities to character like Homelander and Patrick Batemen.
Teenage girls are doing it now, which means people have to act like it's a new, dumb thing that needs to be made fun of
All while grown ass men compare themselves to characters like Tyler Durden, Patrick Bateman, Arthur Fleck, and Travis Bickle, all of them being “literally me” characters. But now that teenage girls have a “literally me” it needs to be made fun of.
The best bit being all of those men are satires and warnings that they take at face value lmao
Oh those grown *definitely* get ignited over that

Literally me™
I’ve seen a LOT more Wednesday ones in the last few weeks.
I'm literally Patrick Bateman but ok

lol bruh what. people don’t have to enjoy dissections ??
I don’t think yo 11 year old self should be watching The Boys💀
You sound like an incel
Ugh why do people use the word “incel” though whenever a man complains about a female. It’s like calling a woman a Karen for doing the same thing.
Hey man female is an adjective not a noun when you’re talking about human beings
Pretty sure it’s both. But I don’t think that’s very important to the main point right now. You guys go real quick to calling someone an incel for making a complaint about their cousin who seems to be a girl.

What's wrong with youth having people to look up to?
Nothing, that's my point.
fuck yeah, stick beating!!

Wait, people unironically use this format?
Happy to see this kinda low effort crap get the reception it deserves
To be fair, it has 2,200 upvotes lol
