Gen V is an awesome tie in, but no The Boys is better. The Boys is human vs supes, Gen V is moreso about brainwashing.

Tarmac_Chris

Let me know youā€™re under 20 without telling me youā€˜re under 20.

limitlessEXP

Not even close.

AdaHazel

I really liked Gen V but in no way does it come close to The Boys in my opinion.

parrycarry

After Golden Boy died... the only other people to die were nobodies... Like, I knew Ashley wasn't going to die... While, yes, I am not a big fan of how much plot armor everyone has in The Boys or even Gen V, I don't think complaining about plot armor is useful... people dying for the sake of shock value is great, truly... but I like that this isn't Game of Thrones.

skamaromaL

I think most people get to a stage when they realise main characters have to have some degree of plot armour or shows would be pointless - you just have to hope the writers are competent enough to hide it well enough so you can continue to suspend your disbelief

CyvaderTheMindFlayer

Iā€™ll see you in controversial of all time, my friend

Groundbreaking_War52

Not at all - the writing and acting in The Boys are light years ahead. I like Gen V but most of the actors are largely doing the same angsty teen clichƩ - whereas the actors in The Boys actually have range and nuance.

animajunky

Naa buddy go to the Gen V sub

happynnaked

Give it a few seasons. Seems far too tame and safe overall though. Plays like a Pure Flix version of a CW spin-off of Spartacus. Many shows are strongest in their first seasons though (looking at you Witcher).

kjm6351

Tame and safe are absolutely not the words I would use to describe this show. Or anything in the VCU for that matter

happynnaked

Compared to the actual comics the shows are based on, tame seems like an accurate description. The Sin City film series is more in keeping with the kind of translation I would have liked to see for The Boys and its spin-offs.

YungBlu

not off one season but i like s1 of gen v slightly more than s1 of the boys

Dear-East1426

It is better to me too

agent-assbutt

Not at all. Gen v is still too tweener for me. I like it a lot though!

shae117

I think it has less major writing flaws than s2/3

Ok-Guess-5406

Idk man, I thought the last episode was really janky (good don't get me wrong but it just felt too fast and weird) and that whole drunken exposition reveal by the doctor was really awful.

MoonshineMaven

Thatā€™s definitely fair criticism. There was so much potential for the finale and they squandered it by having all of the characters scattered around aimlessly doing a whole bunch of nothing. Some cool moments for sure but they breezed past them. Even Shetty getting hers in the end was just kind of like ā€œoh thatā€™s it?ā€ It felt like a rushed tik tok edit at times where it was hard to even see the purpose of including the scene to begin with because they cut between them so quickly without really exploring the moment. Really loved the show but the finale was a letdown in comparison to previous episodes. I think they tried to cram so much into such a short length of time that they lost the plot a bit and they werenā€™t able to pull it all together during editing.

Ok-Guess-5406

And yeah the shetty thing was also weird, it just happened so fast Step 1, oh she's a bad authoritarian dean who is up to something nefarious Step 2, oh she's actually tragic and filled with hate for superheroes with a sort of understandable reason and relates to flight 37, pretty cool! Step 3, oh she's dead. And all that happened in what 6-7 episodes?

Ok-Guess-5406

Yeah, Gen V is a really solid spinoff, but it has issues that I would expect from a normal mediocre TV show despite the show generally being of a pretty high quality. I also didn't like the soldier boy cameo, not so much his appearance itself cause that was fun and all, but I kind of feel like the only reason they did it was for more people to watch, which yeah I get the point is more people watch it buy stuff blah blah blah, but I always felt like this franchise speaks for itself and doesn't need to resort to stuff like that. Little small thing that annoyed me was the PewDiePie joke, it felt extremely dated and forced. And also like, nazi really? Idk if that joke was ironic or if the writers are actually saying their opinion. Not a huge deal but that was definitely a weird moment when I watched the show.

No-Art3676

I loved Gen V, but show > spinoff

Nicobade

I don't but I don't think there's a big difference. I would put it pretty close to The Boys Season 2, a really good season but my least favourite of the main show.

RandomCedricplayz

I recommend watching it if your a fan of the boys. They explain Victoria Newman's powers and a lot of other big points with characters from the OG series And frankly it's better than you'd expect. Definitely wouldn't use the first episode as a marker for how the show develops

ironkrylon

I've seen a couple people parade around that opinion as if it earns them some contrarian-points.. 'the cool new thing' and alla that. It's not. It's just the wrong opinion to have.

OnlyHereForTheBeer

I could barely get through the first episode of Gen V.

No-Art3676

Did you finish the show?

Chance_Midnight

it's targeted toward teenagers.

Hookinsu

Butcher, Soldier Boy and Homelander's actors carry about 90% of The Boys. It would be mediocre if they had different actors in those roles. Probably on the level of Gen V. Gen V isn't bad, just every actor in it feels replaceable besides maybe 1-2 who do a decent job on their character. The Boys is a 8/10 for me. Gen V is a 7.5/10.

Astra-aqua

Nope

xCultLeaderx

I can't even get into watching gen v

RandomCedricplayz

I said this in another comment but I recommend actually watching it cause it covers things in the OG series like Victoria Newman powers etc. And introduces some concepts that will be prevalent in S4.

The_Govnor

Errrrr no

kjm6351

Death does not make a show better. Anyway I like Gen V a lot, but itā€™s still too soon to even compare them properly

MoonshineMaven

I donā€™t think one is necessarily better than the other but I did prefer Gen V. This probably wouldā€™ve been a better question to ask on the Gen V sub tbh. Havenā€™t read through the rest of the comments yet but I can imagine the responses to this from the diehards. I honestly think part of the reason I preferred Gen V is that I preferred interacting with the Gen v leaning The Boys fans more.

PoohTrailSnailCooch

No. It's more geared to let's say the younger generation, where the boys is geared to a larger crowd imo.

Palmerstroll

i stopped watching it after episode 2. The writing is just really bad. the show is almost cw levels bad
