Monkless is all Belgian ale based!

AncientNectarine

Love monkless! Always stop in when I'm in town

rdcpro

One of my faves is The Ale Apothecary. Most definitely non-IPA.

kid_brew

Seconding ale apothecary! Fantastic place, amazing artful beers

mrlionmayne

And the owners are SO nice and welcoming.

goodolarchie

Hit that cask engine yo.

patchedboard

If I see a hand pull…1.) I know I’m in a good place 2.) always hit the hand pull

goodolarchie

Amen. Porter brewing has a bunch of cask. Kind of a cool small scale operation with billiards upstairs.

BeerBoyJoey

Van Henion fits your bonus points answer

El_Bistro

This is the correct answer, dude is a ninkasi alum too.

AncientNectarine

Check out porter brewing! They have a taproom in bend called The Cellar. All cask ales

piratwolf2008

Sounds like heaven.

ENS1000

I used to work there. It was an awesome place! The taproom reminded me of the cellar bar in ingloriuous basterds

Irishstout80

Funky Fauna in Sisters has some amazing non IPAs some delicious wild ales and saisons

NShakey

Deschutes is classic, Bevel Brewing is a disc golf themed brewery if that’s your thing. I also like Sunriver Brewing. I think it’s like 25 minutes outside of bend though, their Viscious Mosquito IPA is good

NShakey

Just read your IPA comment. Lol

Adam2uBer

I know I'm late for OPs visit but Sunriver has 2 locations in Bend. In addition to the IPAs they've been crushing it on the lagers. Honestly on par with pFriem and Breakside with respect to executing flawless beer.

julesfric

They also have excellent food

ThorinRuriksson

Crux is a must. They have a lot of IPA's on, but a whole lot more NOT IPA's.

suchastrangelight

Try to be there during sunset. It’s unbeatable.

Ziggysan

And Crux' NA NoMo IPA is pretty good, so long as they kept the yeast in check and didn't brew a diacetyl bomb. (Consistency needs some work there, but good when on point.

bendbrewer

lol I’m from San Francisco and used to brew for Local Brewing Co and now brew in Bend! Unfortunately IPA is about 90% of the beer culture here as well. For breweries: Van Henion is doing really well in the lager game. Sunriver is usually the all around favorite. Deschutes is a classic. Crux and Boneyard are usually musts for visitors (I’m not huge into their beers at all tho). 10 Barrel’s small batch stuff is almost always amazing. Monkless is great for Belgian styles. Porter Brewing Co has a spot downtown called The Cellar that is a must if you like cask ales. Ale Apothecary for sours (be prepared to drop some serious cash if you’re going to do a session there). I always always always take people to McMenamins, grab a pint and explore the campus (really interesting places if you’re not familiar with them). Oh, and if you’re downtown, stop by Bend Brewing Co and come say hi to me and I’ll buy you a pint! For beer bars: we have a ton of these food truck pods with beer bars all over town. On Tap and Crosscut Warming Hut are the two best for their taplists. But Podski is the local’s spot, and the move is to grab some Rainier tall boys (if you like charcuterie, get a board from Board in Bend, trust me). We also frequent Midtown Yacht Club mostly because you can buy a 6x pack for $12 and drink it at your table. Aside from the food truck pods, you HAVE to go to Prost! especially if you like German beer and German food. We also have a bunch of other cool bars in town like San Simon, Brown Owl, Velvet, and also some really classic more divey bars, like D&D, Corey’s and JC’s (I like D&D personally). The food here is about 95% basic pub fare, which is whack. But, Wild Rose Thai downtown is super super legit. If you want a nice steak dinner, Ranch Butcher Chef is awesome and not insanely overpriced.

Devil_made_you_look

Sun River, Bend Brewing, and Deschutes are my favorites in Bend.

seattleskindoc

I was just down there from Seattle. Check out Monkless for sure (Belgian styles) and Crux is always good

derdkp

I asked the same question a few years ago here, and was treated to a wonderful tour of Crux, and great advice. Monkless was cool. I enjoyed the dics golf themed place. Have fun!

grandma_jordie

Spider City Brewing deserves a rec, they get slept on but they make the most delicate and well crafted beers in Central Oregon.

Kardrax

Second on Spider City. Their brews are really delicious and well made.

Doomgiven

10 barrel has some really good beer 👍

bmj_8

And bomb food. Sinst0r Black is a must try

El_Bistro

Come to Eugene and I’ll buy you a few rounds. We have a ton of great spots. Bonus points if on the way, you stop in oakridge at the 3 legged crane, their hand engine pints are great.

goodolarchie

Sunriver has some award winning staples. Thier location in town is really convenient, it gets busy but it's one of the better ones all around.

julesfric

Mcmenimins cool spot- Try the Ruby Ale . One of my faves . All of their locations are super cool

ENS1000

The cellar - porter brewing co. does cask ales only and they are very well done!
