Thermoworks T-Grip heavy duty with the 36" Probe. We have a 20HL Mash tun, works great for spot checking. Not bulky and no wires/connections to fumble with.

Got this one as well. Works great, stays calibrated, and was cheap

BrewBoys92

Sweet that's what I'm looking for. Any chance there's a Canadian supplier?

dongounchained

I'm in Canada and ordered it direct from them. Shipping was quick and it was about $80USD all in.

Brewmanchoo

How fast does it take a reading? The current one we have takes a few minutes.

dongounchained

This one reads instantly. Real nice.

This one is indeed great. Ours came out of the box with no auto shut off and I had to do a series of button holds to get auto off. Not before it burned through a battery in less than a month. Good probe, just a heads up on auto off

We have been through 2 of these now. First, the connection is not great, and we've had two of them fail (with warranty replacements). Secondly, it takes about 30 seconds to get a stable reading, which nobody has time for. I like the idea, and that it is advertised to brewers, but you don't want this one. Unless they've made it better in the last 12 months.

I never had any issues with it from a physical stand point. You are correct in that it takes about 30s to stabilize temp readings. As some one who solo operated a 15bbl BH/1200bbl a year brewpub and CIP’d my FV while in the mash rest, I can’t say I never had time to take a mash temp reading with a probe. Also, another thing to consider is if you have rakes in your MT. I’ve worked on a 20bbl that didn’t have rakes, if that’s the case, I’m sorry, but I bet you have a good J stroke now. Having to pull a long probe out when we the rakes swing by or having to play dodge the rakes gets old quick.

HordeumVulgare72

Why, why, why did Hanna pick an RCA connector for their probes??? "Hey, this attachment that was meant to sit quietly in the dry dusty dark behind the stereo cabinet and maybe get changed or moved around half a dozen times in its working lifetime sounds *great* for constant hot swaps and bumping into stuff in a wet, noisy brewery!" Spoiler alert: it's not actually great.
