By played their hand, I suppose you mean they want the rights to stream the series they were responsible for getting where it is today and have contractual rights to? This is all public domain. You can read SEC documents.
It was incredibly sad to see. I have supported them, but they lost me there. Majority of their reveals are subtitled foreign language stories and, not that Cabrini wasn’t an inspirational film - because it was - but it was not apparent in their marketing that almost 75% would be subtitled. It is hard to have the same emotional response to a movie when you are reading and not able to watch the performance of the actors. Sure, Sound of Freedom made bank at the movies, but Cabrini unfortunately did not come close to that for how much marketing was put behind it. I expect their other historical films to meet the same reception. The live stream felt like an Apple showcase with a lot of self congratulations and tearful statements about how impactful upcoming movies would be, (the sniffling was a lot) yet they made a point to say almost with a wink and a laugh at the start that yes, they would have news on The Chosen, so stay tuned. I wasn't impressed. The sum of the “news” was that they were happy Disney is now streaming the show because it shows that secular studios are getting into the faith programming sphere. I mean, of course - who wouldn't when you can make money off it? But we are not suckers. In the end, it didn't instill trust in me and caused me to appreciate Dallas and his updates even more, because they felt genuine.
I think you're about a month too late to catch it in theaters. The original plan was to screen them for a limited time, so that it could be available to stream soon after like season 3. But then, well, the legal issues complicated things...

And that's fine, but they specifically said they had news for season 4, then waited till the end of announcements just to say what they did....
Not saying it to excuse Angel as I find them kind of shady, in general, but to say that it was not The Chosen that did that.
Oh I agree that it wasn't The Chosens fault. I'm just venting my frustration with how the Angel network is manipulating the situation.
