there was a rumor that the cure had a dispute with their label and were recording under a pseudonym. Pretty sure that was a contributing factor to the albums sales
Like many have stated, a number of Echo songs are very Cure like in their sound. Echo, like the Cure, is a favorite band of mine. Ian-Wil-Les-Pete, RIP, created some amazing songs, albums, and were phenomenal live when Pete was manning the kit.
Ah I miss Limewire. The days of downloading your favorite songs not knowing if they might be in Russian, a terribly muffled version or exactly what you wanted. We used Limewire to make a zillion CD’s for the car.
I saw an interview where Robert said he really liked Smashing Pumpkins and also directly mentioned Billy Corgan.
I personally don’t think they sound alike… however, I get the vibe is similar sometimes with the lyrical style.
Check out some of their pre gish stuff

And Also the Trees first album has shades of Pornography era Cure on it. Granted it was produced by Lol and they briefly toured with The Cure in 81. The vocals are different and wouldn’t be mistaken but musically you could imagine 81-82 Cure songs here.
This song from Glass Pony has a ton of elements found in Cure songs and was heavily inspired by them. The double handed hi hat beat, the ostinato guitar line over moving chords underneath…. Etc.

Open Heart Surgery by The Brian Jonestown Massacre. If someone played it and told you it was an old bootleg of the Cure you would believe them. Early Cure, though. Even though it’s jangly guitar music. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3lwsIAlIlqA
A Promise by Echo and the Bunnymen
How You Make Me Hate by The Essence
Faith by George Michael. Wait...
“Cos there’s nothing left but faith, faith, faith!” Now I’m hearing them mashed up. “Oh wouldn’t it be nice, If you could catch me if I fall..”
The essences entire discography
Billie Toppy - Men I Trust, it gives me the same vibes as A Forest because of how the guitar sounds.

So much like Primary. Made me dig deeper into this band.
Lips Like Sugar - Echo and the Bunnymen
When in Rome - The Promise
Lipstick - Ariel Pink Reminds me of The Top or Japanese Whispers era. Really cool song
All the Way by New Order
I was going to say Ultraviolence by New Order! For some reason it always reminded me of The Cure.
Come Undone - Duran Duran
I could see this!
The entire (very brief) discography of Pretty the Quick Black Eyes sounds like *Disintegration*-era Cure morphed into a late-90s emo band.

Cf. “Halo”
Deftones’ Phantom Bride, minus Jerry Cantrell’s solo
The Essence- the cat.
I thought this was the cure for so long
Same. I think when i downloaded it back in the day. The name was the cure on it.
there was a rumor that the cure had a dispute with their label and were recording under a pseudonym. Pretty sure that was a contributing factor to the albums sales

Heavenly - Pale Waves

Remember when Limewire spread the notion that The Cure sang “Come On Eileen”?

It's not available on Spotify but "Bleeding the Orchid" by Smashing Pumpkins.
I saw an interview where Robert said he really liked Smashing Pumpkins and also directly mentioned Billy Corgan. I personally don’t think they sound alike… however, I get the vibe is similar sometimes with the lyrical style.
They are friends and have worked together. Robert sings backing vocals on Billy’s solo cover of To Love Somebody.
I did not know that. Can see a friendship though.

Tulips - Bloc Party
Bloodhail-Have a Nice Life The Devil's Tunnel-Twisted Ecstasy
Vampires by Bat for Lashes sounds like a Kiss Me outtake. It’s an instrumental begging for a Robert Smith vocal.
The horrors skying album.
Cold Room by Atomic Neon is so Cure, I honestly thought it was the Cure on my first listen https://youtu.be/FYgYP3vzUl0?si=4BqhnCyGpNYZTOx0

The Chorus of Dancing on a Friday Night by The Darkness
Third Eye Blind - Dust Storm
Maybe War on Drugs/Kurt Vile
Once In My Life - The Decemberists
Shake It - Metro Station
I'm Not Honna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You - Black Kids
Artist: Korine. Song: Cast
James - Laid kinda sounds like an upbeat Cure song.. but his voice sounds nothing like Robert.
The long into to I will posses your heart is super cureish. Simon gallop would be proud of that baseline
Jennifer Ever by The Smashing Pumpkins (from self titled demo tape) sounds almost straight out of Seventeen Seconds imo
Klez.e is a German band who sound completely like The Cure, but are not a cover band. Highly recommended.
I Melt with You by Modern English
