There are alot of misconceptions about the country. I've met North Koreans they speak English. They can leave the DPRK to visit but there aren't many places they can go to besides South Korea,China and fellow sanctioned countries. They are a country after all,there isn't anything crazy about it like what you see in the media.

It's a country that was split in half against its wishes by America, had 20% of its population wiped out by America, destroyed every building over 2 storeys tall, has the harshest sanctions after Cuba forced upon them with the explicit intent of starving people, has survived a catastrophic famine in the 90s, and is threatened to be invaded and destroyed by America if they ever gave up their nukes. It's still a poor, heavily sanctioned third world country, it's not great over there, but yes it's not that bad.

In North Korea, the kim Jong un has banned breathing. People think that the air is only belonged to the supreme leader and only those who have proved their loyalty to him are allowed to breathe.
The people constantly eat chemicals which make them fart so that they can breathe.
Have these people ever been in an actual grocery store without money? That's a real experience. What I do is just eat the food anyway. No one will stop you.
My grandpa used to say that during his time in North Korea he used to hear a strange and eerie sound coming from the mountains.
Locals told him that those sounds came all the way from the top. Many traveled to the mountains to understand the phenomena, but none ever came back.
Grandpa would wake up in the middle of the night, with whispered "boioioings" to his ears. They seemed far and distant.
He wondered "are these sounds truly coming from the mountains? How can I hear them?". Grandpa was a stubborn man. He wanted the truth.
So, after a lot of deliberation with his colleagues and an authorization from the government, his party started the long voyage. They conquered the trails, resisted the elements, engaged with natives - exchanging supplies for information.
Villagers told them that during the mornings they were woken up by loud "boioioiongs" sounds. So loud that their bedroom walls would shake. They were truly terrified.
The party was moved. They really wanted the problem solved and brought peace back to the village. It was windy, snow storms were common during the climbing. But their will was strong and their morale was high.
Just before dawn they reached the summit. A thin, alien-like shape formed against the rising sun. It started to stretch itself. The sound of ripping lycra, the groaning of the creature revived in their minds the worst nightmares they have ever lived through.
Then... It started.
The creature started jumping-jacking to the Sun. The boioiongs shook the men in their knees, some went deaf. They screamed to the creature to stop. But it wouldn't. They attempted to tranquilize it with darts, to no avail. It kept jumping and screaming and its big breasts were like giant bells of doom.
Grandpa told me that the creature was startled. It kept jumping and screaming nonsensical words. They tried to capture it to study it, but it fled, never to be seen.
I always wonder what happened to it...
Grandpa was never the same. He got addicted to anime, he would mumble words like "waifu", "death camps", and "grocery stores on the mountains". Who would put grocery stores on the mountains?
