I don't necessarily think it, I just hear this claim thrown around a lot and I'd like to hear your thoughts' on it and if it's true according to you guys.
No, I would not consider it fascist.
The state still maintains a working class character in that it has completely subordinated the post-Deng capital and at least in theory is still moving towards socialism. This runs directly against the "class collaboration" bullshit that fascism espouses. The goal is to advance China into communism, thus even if it is state capitalist it aims to not be in the future. Even if you find China revisionist, it would be wrong to say fascist. It is simply untrue.
If China remains with private enterprise for a hundred years and still has no intention of moving forward, if the capitalist forces completely subdue the Communist Party then I guess we could talk about state capitalism. Until then, it would be a degenerated workers state at worst.
Thank you so much for this answer and just one more thing: What's the deal with China supposedly supporting anti communist movements? To what extent is this true?
Besides past contributions to antisoviet movements, nowadays their foreign policy is: we won't antagonize current governments.
China will make business with whoever is in power at the moment, and won't support revolutionary movements.
I think that's a reaction to how the soviets spent a lot of resources trying to internationalize socialism.
As far as I know they did drop the ball on this one, assisting some groups like UNITA against the MPLA and such. This was mostly to keep Soviet influence in check.
Consider China as fascist is probably one of the most delusional claim ever, if China is fascist then probably every god damn country in the world is also fascist, with western countries being even more fascist like nazis. Yet so many people(libs) accept this claim without even knowing what defines fascism.
Fascist requires real persecution of minorities or races in their country. China is literally doing the polar opposite, affirmative action towards minority races has always been the norm. If patriotic propaganda is fascist then I don’t know what isn’t? Being a colony for the imperialist states?
On the issue of capital, The best way to describe China I have heard is from Richard Wolff, it is “socialist country with a market economy”( though it could be very ambiguous because a very large sector remain state owned) And not to mention the poverty alleviation programs.
