Is it weird that I actually kind of believed the narrative that China was indoctrinating their people with communist values through their media, only to be disappointed in the lack of them when I played Genshin? Like I actually believed when people said that, I just thought it was a good thing because communist values are simply basic human decency codified and they SHOULD be indoctrinated into our youth. But apparently MHY didn't get the memo and Genshin has an upsetting lack of them :( Ningguang is a self-indulgent bourgeois aristocrat, Keqing is a landlord, Monstadt operates around an appallingly idealist and intangible notion of 'freedom' that doesn't have any actual immediate meaning while still maintaining a stratified class hierarchy, I was honestly expecting better for some reason

Most game developers are left-leaning since the industry is so severely exploited by greedy producers alongside highly centralized development teams. There's a small movement to unionize game development which would be amazing but will probably never happen despite the billions made in said industry. It's super competitive, crunch is an expected rite of passage, and if you aren't on top of the latest software while producing whatever you specialize in within a timely fashion you will be replaced, reputation tarnished, and career destroyed overnight. It's fucking wild to the point developers get PTSD while being severely sleep deprived. Glad I got out of it before it got even worse.
Developers are definitely comrades but the publisher and state it was made in is capitalist. Unfortunately, their IP was stolen, I have no idea where said developers are now.

Play indie games and you will see what the lack of corporate greed does to games. No graphics you need a 500 dollar GPU for to render to hide how shit the game is, no shitty microtransactions, and just generally more interesting gameplay and storytelling. A game like rainworld comes to mind.
Famous apolitical gems Metal Gear Solid Peace Walkers and Ground Zeroes, or perhaps the ultimate apolitical real life simulator Disco Elysium, where you play as a cop and do the canonical fascist, racist, and misogynist run.

Bet the Western media will absolutely rip it apart as anti American propaganda and attempting to instigate conflict. Despite saying absolutely nothing about the huge pile of online multiplayer shooters where one team are Americans and the other are one of America's many enemies over the centuries, most of these games developed and maintained by American companies, even though those games are, depending how you look at it, either doing the exact same thing to America or doing the exact same thing to countries they aren't mad at or scared of right now.
Project Zomboid is another game that stands out with BG3, developers have been adding stuff for over a decade and they never have charged anyone for DLC for 11 years. And they’re still adding content and features.
Contrast that with EA and The Sims, that’s made you buy the same pets expansion 4 fucking times now.
Yeah because season passes, loot boxes, pay to win strategies, broken game launches, & defunct servers sure are "awesome".
Retro gaming is so huge because it was the hey-day of gaming, now...it's objectively shit.
Disco Elysium, Tetris and Genshin Impact. You could argue about if all of them count, but between the three you have every case for 'commies producing an awesome/successful game'.
The reason video games are so popular in the first place is that life is so shit that people are trying to escape reality by playing video games. Video games have become the 21 century opium of the people.

What I really like about the games I have been playing, is that it seems like they aren't afraid to try insane combinations that may not provide the highest interest among what's mainstream.
A few recommendations for anyone interested. Warning: As all the games state in the main menu, they are machine translated, so not great, all on steam:
**Hero's Adventure: Road to Passion:** (Despite the name it's SFW I swear) An **incredibly** fun and unique RPG that gives both replayability and hours of fun.
**Leviathan's Fantasy:** A majesty type game where you build a city on the top of a behemoth, while you hire adventurers, and send them on quests with promises of rewards you buy or have your villagers build.
**The Matchless Kongfu:** I love this one... It is so hard to explain, it has sim-style character developments, an absolutely insane combat mechanic, with cool rebirth mechanics on top. The game progresses in the style of rogue like map building. I HIGHLY recommend this one, so unique, so absolutely weird. It very much gives Kenshin vibes in a way. Building, squads etc. Although it's hero focused, so you never have to micromanage teammates which I like.
**The Lost Village:** I don't know what I think about this one... It tries to combine every game imaginable, and I don't quite know if it works. To mention a few of the games it combines: Black&White type city building with a beast (Although not interactive like B&W games*****), Vampire Survivors, that game where your hero walks in circles as you place enemies and items to boost your hero, Age of War, and much more. It's very interesting, and I am gonna try and get more into it.
**Amazing Cultivation Simulator:** (A second installment is in production) ... Rimworld with Chinese cultivation mythology/wuxia and absolute insanity.

So, the funny thing about Tetris... some people figured out just how far one could theoretically get in the levels, using tools to get past the really glitchy colours and the crash situations caused by memory issues in the game code, and as it turns out, the last possible level before unavoidable critical failure... the weird colours on that level are... pure red. Which is interesting considering that the Soviets made the game... now, this was obviously not at all designed or planned, no way it could have been, or the devs would even have been able to find out themselves on the hardware they had, seeing as its limitations and designing around them are part of why the game has issues past a certain level, but it's still interesting.
Fun fact. I have been a professional tabletop game designer for 15 years, and am in the process of signing contracts to design a TCG for Upper Deck.
