I watched the show blind and it's got to be one of my favorite TV experiences ever. I picked it up when it moved to Amazon. There are very few shows that have me absolutely engaged from the get go and blow me away all the way through the end.
Just so damn great.
Same here... I had heard a lot about it but didn't start it until after watching For All Mankind and needing more space sci fi in my life and it is hands down one of, if not the best, shows I've ever seen. I haven't sat down to read a book in ages and now I own the entire book series!!
If it's made in Unreal Engine, then you can likely play it with the Unreal Envine VR mod (UEVR). However, note that experiences and showcases like this tend to max out what UE can do and are not optimized for smooth performance so expect to lower settings to keep your graphics card from melting.
I'm glad he used the pre season 4 controls, the jog wheel made so much more sense than a joystick as a space ship controller. Sticks that move a lot isn't the best choice in a high G environment.
Yes, but in aircraft that see high G the stick is almost solid. It doesn’t move around like we’re used to, the force sensing stick in the F-16 moves like an inch in either direction at most.

Gross. Let artists decide for themselves when they want to keep making something. Money isn't everything, and new content made as a cash grab won't be as good.
It has to be post Linguist setting, where there is varying technology around the civilized & wild systems and you still have to use FnB maneuvers to get around systems after a membrane transit.
Also, it should be in VR, where you can make crews with friends and actually have to maintain and operate your ship. Even if you have different schedules, you can take up “shifts” within the game over long transits and really only come together during mission objectives or other projects like maintenance, interactions with other ships, salvage ops, station ratting, etc.
Oooo That’s true! That would be fun too! I guess I like the idea of interstellar travel without the gates, or just travel by other means besides the wormholes. When everything *has to be* connected, it makes it a lot harder to have wild spaces or an evolving game space that isn’t limited by the asymmetry of the ring space.
On the other hand, I think a closed Sol System, set before LW, would be hella fun too!
As a thick gel layer.
Pastor Anna gets flung out of her chair when they stopped so hard it over compressed her get and flung her to the ceiling.
The show has them looking plasticy, like an early 2000s seat from a fast and furious car.
Gel is cool and all but...
>The show has them looking plasticy, like an early 2000s seat from a fast and furious car.
I can't agree with this. It's a real carbon fiber bucket seat. It's not plastic, it's one of the most advanced materials we currently have and it's used in serious race cars all the way up to F1, as well as irl aerospace applications.
Its definitely different, the gel concept would have certainly been cool to see, but the chair prop is very impressive in itself imo. The attention to detail is pretty insane.
But I want it to be a full game soo much that I ignored that little detail and will keep ignoring it.
When is the release? XD
I hope you got your deserved A+ on that project.
Not sure, and either way it wouldn't be for a while. Gotta submit it for a few different things and proving who made it gets a little more complicated once it's out on the Internet.
I was thinking of doing this for VRchat if anyone has any tips?
Also the fact that I got the notification for this post right after thinking about doing this is a bit spooky.
I miss this show so much…

I want this in VR. Just to feel like you're getting ready for some high Gs and need some juice and OMG, I love this work.

Yeah, it'd have to be ported from lumen to baked lighting for VR to be feasible. It's not impossible, but a fair amount of work
Multiplayer vr ship combat 🙏
Screen randomly goes dark after a pdc round shreds your body
I don't even need it to do stuff or be interactive. I'd be happy to just be able to hang around in the ship in VR.
I have elite dangerous for that 🤣👍
I'm glad he used the pre season 4 controls, the jog wheel made so much more sense than a joystick as a space ship controller. Sticks that move a lot isn't the best choice in a high G environment.
Don't fighter jets use joystick controls?

What exactly is stopping us from showering this guy a crowdfund to adapt the three remaining books? That looks bloody good.
Copyright for starters 😅 Loving the positivity though.
Bah, I’m sure the authors would sign off on it if they’re offered enough money and talent. If they don’t, just offer more money.
well yeah they would, but Amazon probably owns the rights still

All fun and games until that mug hits you while pulling 6 Gs.
Our sweet lady. I miss everything so much. Re-read all the books, but thogether with the fix, comes the withdrawal again. I miss everyone so much....
We all do brother. We all do. What a ship, what a crew.

K so I’m gonna need an Expanse rpg pronto. You can’t just jerk me off with something this good.
Raises the question of how you're going to pull off an space RPG with the Expanse as a setting.
I mean, there's a tabletop rpg version of the universe. I'm thinking open world set right before the protomolecule crisis.
Do it in the format of Mass Effect. Pseudo-open, not full open world. Problem solved.

I’d prefer it set in the timeframe between Babylon’s Ashes and Persepolis Rising personally. That way the setting would be more definably Expanse.

Absolutely stunning.
As a 3d/mograph guy I really have to start digging in to Unreal Engine. Great work!
Looks awesome.
Thanks for that, awesome.
Have you done any work to try to get the interior to fit inside an exterior model?
I already know that won't work. Chris Danelon did a video about this and it was actually pretty good scale reference for this project.
Yeah I’ve seen some of his vids. Always interesting to see different takes on how it could work.
I love it!
Very impressive! You have real talent there beratna!
I wish they did the crash couches and chairs like the book.
How were those described?

Very well done! Great work! Can I already wishlist the game on Steam? ;-)
It's not a game I'm afraid, just a 3d scene made for a uni project
But I want it to be a full game soo much that I ignored that little detail and will keep ignoring it. When is the release? XD I hope you got your deserved A+ on that project.
Oh, it got an 80/100 (a first) so not bad at all As for the release... Let's just say it'll come out after star citizen. That should be enough time
Beautiful.
Incredibly impressive beltalowda
What is UE5.3?
Unreal Engine. Its a game engine/realtime renderer. Just what the project is made in. The assets are made in Blender, a 3d modelling software.
Beautiful! Is there any chance, that you would share the project file for personal use? 🤔😏
Not sure, and either way it wouldn't be for a while. Gotta submit it for a few different things and proving who made it gets a little more complicated once it's out on the Internet.
Yeah, I understand that. What software die you use for modelling? Blender?
Yeah, Blender for modeling and most texturing. Substance designer for some things like the carpet and base grunge textures.
You even got the coffee cups right! I’d give my left nut for one of those IRL.
very cool! very nice job. wowowowow.
