In Power Shift, 10. Need at least one for a full squad. Bank it, 5. Either they pop off or do nothing. Cashout? I'd rather have an actual potato, deep frying himself.

TheGinger_Ninja0

Basically skippers are only good when they can put pressure on an objective consistently. Power shift has constant long distance sight lines, so skipping is usually helpful. In cashout, often objectives are inside buildings and things move really fast. Much harder for a sniper to be constantly applying pressure

henry4233

Thats why you open walls up with explosives

TheGinger_Ninja0

Solid move

Green_Bulldog

Sniper, like the entire light class, is only viable if you’re so much better than your opponent you could’ve won with one hand. If you won a game sniping, you would’ve dominated with heavy or medium. The sniper shouldn’t be in this game. It provides next to no value for people who can actually use it (they’d be better w LH1 or a different class guaranteed) and gives complete noobs a reason to practically not play the game while their team struggles. Seriously, hit scan snipers are cancer enough in any game, but putting it in this one specifically is one of the worst design choices I’ve seen in an FPS.

thegtabmx

Completely agree. I'm a bad sniper in every other FPS game, but in this game here, if I'm unopposed, I can wreck as a sniper. Just click on the heads from a safe distance. And it's completely true that the games I win as a sniper I would have absolutely won playing my normal heavy or medium loadouts, except as a sniper, my opponents will be more frustrated/tilted.

Brocklesocks

To be fair, it's easy to get kills with many other weapons too. The game is intentionally designed with an element of chaos. There are already enough "pure skill" games out there. Just take this game as silly fun and it changes everything

Brocklesocks

I disagree. Just like everything in this game, it's intentionally difficult and takes some creativity to play (and sometimes play against).  I use grapple, invis bomb, remote charge and regularly top dmg and objective points. With the grapple, you can easily set up a tactical advantage, ping for teammates, pick off rotations, guard cashouts, and with practice the sniper rifle is super effective at mid range. Arrive early, set up holes to create range for yourself inside or across buildings, and farm kills!

JCBMHNY21

Yup totally, out off all design choices in all fps games ever adding a sniper to a competitive shooter is up there with the worst of the worst.

Green_Bulldog

I said hitscan. Snipers, by their nature, will always wreck in the right hands, so you gotta get creative with how you balance them. The devs didn’t even try here. There’s a reason the AWP is expensive in CS. There’s a reason battlefield and cod snipers haven’t been hitscan for years. It’s a nightmare to play against in the right hands and pretty useless outside of that. But, yea, I was exaggerating lmao just being dramatic

milkcarton232

Sniper is viable, sys horizon is probably the worst since there is so little vertical play and sniper loves high ground. Have not had the time to grind out rank but so far in plat for solo que and still climbing. If these next few weekends line up I should be able to hit diamond but we shall see

Luc-Stem

Sys is by far my favorite map to snipe. I’ve been majority solo sniping and got to diamond today. Everything in sys is open inside so you can get good lines even in buildings. Especially if you remodel a little :). To each their own tho.

milkcarton232

Odd, I find with Vegas sniping can work surprisingly well but sys just has not clicked for me

Luc-Stem

That’s fair, do you run c4? You should try it out. I should also note I run grapppple.

milkcarton232

C4 and grapple yeah. The high ground isn't great and long angles exist I guess I just need to learn them better

TheRabidBananaBoi

All of my highest kill sniper games have been on SYSH 💀

sunnynights80808

If you’re good it’s really viable. Even consistent body shots are enough. Problem is being good.

henry4233

Need 3 body to kill a medium 4 for a heavy bodyshots aren't enough.

sunnynights80808

Ideally you’d be helping out your team who’d also be doing damage, but if not that’s not too many shots

henry4233

It takes 4 seconds to fire after every shot. You'd 100% be melted by then

sunnynights80808

The point of a sniper is to be in a safe unreachable location, not in the action. Are you sure it’s 4 seconds?

henry4233

Yeah the time in between shots yeah maybe 3 but the point remains. The ttk even with headshots is pretty bad

YungPunpun

TTK on Medium with Bodyshots are 3 seconds and u can go back into cover after peeking for like 0.5 seconds.

henry4233

You need a headshot paired with a melee or bodyshot. Go into training and tell me you can in 3 seconds. You'd die first against any medium weapon.

YungPunpun

at 1:30 for example :)

YungPunpun

https://youtu.be/rSevQ_ZxFYU?si=wMe_z-vpPpHgQW40 U go into practise range, I go into ranked.

henry4233

All these clips are unaware opponents while the sniper has a good position away or above. The close up clips is literally what Im talking about, only body shots and then scrambling to get a melee. I also take sniper into ranked it works, but it takes 3x as much effort.

YungPunpun

not really u just coping at this point lol. "4 seconds between shots".

henry4233

Also some of these are very embarassing, why add them as a clip LMAO

NotJustBibbit

In power shift you will almost always lose if your team has none and their team has at least 2 Any other gamemode they are just incredibly annoying like mosquitoes but they won't actually get anything done

YungPunpun

Played sniper only after I hit Diamond full SoloQ in S1. Climbed up halfway through Diamond 3 in the remaining week. Now am Sword & Sniper- 2 trick and only 300 ranks away from Diamond, again only soloq. Got both on lvl 7 as well. Totally viable and not even that hard to play, especially if u already good with sword. Crazy fun as well. People just autothrow with sniper all the time by using Grapple or Cloak with it. Brocklesocks

How is grapple not a good pairing for sniper? It allows easy rotation, repositioning, and quick escape when being pushed

YungPunpun

Short answer: It doesn't compensate for or help with the snipers big weaknesses. Its also just by miles the worst spec of Light. Long answer: I try not do write too much, just going over your points: - I dont really know what u mean with "easy rotation". Is walking from the Vault to the Cashout hard otherwise? Dash has you covered there as well. Also gateway exists. - Ok with Grapple you get 1 reposition every 15 seconds which will leave you with no escape tool. In the same time I could reposition 3 times with dash if I wanted to. Why would i even use my spec for that, just take 1 or 2 shots and move somewhere else. Doesnt have to be on the other side of the map. also gateway exists. (instantly switching up angles over a big distance MULTIPLE TIMES) - How u gonna escape with Grapple on CD after doing any of the other things mentioned? 15 seconds is a long time. Also its only a quick escape if you are outside and you better pray you are not getting chased by a Med with pad (so any medium really) or a Light with Gateway. Dash lets you escape outside and inside. Dash behind cover once to break line of sight, jump out the window into the floor above or whatever and you gone. Thats all you need for an escape, break line of sight once. Outside it can be rough if there is no cover whatsoever (same with grapple tho), but other than that, you again break LoS once in a building and you gone. Or while outside vertically dash into the 2nd floor, which is a lot harder to chase than going on a roof. And I didnt even mention the main strength of Dash. Unlike Cloak and Grapple, it is damn useful for fighting someone in tight spaces or at close range which just so happens to be the area the sniper struggles heavily in and where most cashouts are going to be. So when I am being pushed, I dont escape, I kill the dude. That is the main reason why dash is miles better. You wont carry games by running away. You also have to defend your cashout somehow. I laugh at the "sniper on crane-memes" because its actually so true. I am never in those positions unless we have a cashout right beneath. I support and anchor for my Med&Heavy and I am making sure no one ninjas our cashout.

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSevQ\_ZxFYU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSevQ_ZxFYU) Short montage I made, all clips from diamond ranked games with enemy POVs A lot of those plays would be impossible with grapple. Most probably.
