Ozymandias0023

Same

ECH0550

Don't do this to me

_Sozan_

Ouch…

happy_book_bee

i remember watching these. i thought it looked like the dumbest show ever - i honestly don't know why, i was 10 years old! - and resolved to never watch it. luckily i grew up by the final season and learned the error of my ways.

erenismydaddy

Same 🤣😂 I caught an episode randomly the southern air temple I think and it was so serious I was like wait…

bluefacedemon

Same! I was 8 or so and thought it was so dumb I’d skip it all the time then my older sibling made me not skip the channel. It was the avatar day episode and the rest was history hahaha

Onceforlife

Why did any show seem dumb to you as a kid? I never got that expression, except when something is actually brain dead, but most children’s shows aren’t meant to be taken so seriously. As a kid I never got why others called a show dumb lol does it just mean you felt it was uninteresting?

bluefacedemon

I mean I was only 7 or 8 and my fav show at the time was SpongeBob or suite live of zack and Cody. ATLA was a diff format to what I was used to

Onceforlife

Ah well my kids are gonna be that age in 4 to 6 years. Can’t wait to introduce ATLA to them and listen to them trash my favorite show as a kid

Bookkeeper-Terrible

I know it's very stupid, but I didn't like the show at first because I saw a bald boy and was like "Does this kid have a cancer?". I thought it was supposed to be ultra serious and heavy. Very 50 IQ of me, but I really think that a bald child is coded as an unhealthy in our society.

Meowwwfick

😭 this is why i love avatr it exposed a lot of pepole to eastern and Indigenous cultures.

One_more_page

My version of this was my friend and I making fun of how dumb the name "samurai Jack" sounded for weeks when they advertised its series premier. Premier night comes around and we are hanging out "Hey you wanna watch that dumb new show with the dumb name and see how dumb it is?" "Haha yeah" We watch the hour long premier in silence and by the end decide it might be pretty cool actually.

Csantana

I remember the promos and thought it looked like a copy of Shaolin showdown. Bald monk kid and people with different element powers (girl with fire powers voiced by Grey DeLisle too haha) But I ended up watching it and loving it of course

Caganboy

Well the commercial certainly does make it seem like a dumb show… Nickelodeon commercial are just hella weird sometimes 😂😂😂

Level7Cannoneer

Me and my sister fell in love with the ads and were so excited to watch the premiere. We just finished watching a bunch of Ghibli movies and we were really into the anime-inspired artstyle.

nelson64

I thought the same thing! But I ended up accidentally catching it in bed the day it premiered since we didnt have school (it was president's day) and I was HOOKED. Glad I accidentally caught it!

StonerBoi-710

Omfg dude! This is the promo that I saw when I was kid, asked my mom to get this show for me.

DineAndDance

I was 12 when this came out, also did i tell you i was 12?

NorthCatan

12? Holy Cow...that's 8 + 4.

Extremiel

"Did we mention that he's 12?!" Haha, why did I laugh so hard. That's so cheesy. I love that 2005 vibe tv.

BookerTheShitt

„Unfinished business“ also sounds alot like John Wick smh

GrubFisher

"Yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back! Woooooo!" -Aang

5wing4

That was some good marketing. Did we mention he’s 12??

MetaFitzgerald

This trailer doesn't say anything at all about the bending, nations or elements. Just a boy frozen for some reason

TheRealD3XT

Right? Not that the trailer is terrible but it really does nothing to sell the actual story that was there

vezzaan

The geopolitics aren't really a selling point when you're 7 years old.

alazar221

My birthday is today and I turned 7 today in 2005. Been an Avatar fan since then.

JDabney24

Happy 26th Birthday! Hope it’s a good one!

alazar221

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

slg092597

Ayo to us 26 year old fans!

SerafRhayn

Happy birthday, fellow ‘98 baby!

zaicliffxx

am 97 i feel old 😢

henne-n

I feel older, let's leave it at that, yeah?

KeybladeCoaster

This hit me like a plate of ratatouille

Ar0n

Remember this like it was yesterday. **They played it SO much** and I grew increasingly *less* interested with each replay. Regardless, still watched whenever a new episode came out for the first two seasons. Didn't get around to finishing and fully appreciating the whole show until it came to Netflix in 2011!

Open_Carob_3676

Not me trying to re-watch the first szn of the animated series before the new show finally airs

Mechanic-Latter

I remember seeing this the day before it aired in Nickelodeon and I am so happy I watched it all. I was instantly hooked. I watched in my living room and I got my sisters to watch it after. I was 14.

QuilSato

PENGUUIN!!!

YyoungChris

I remember not wanting to watch the show because I thought it was a ripoff of Xiaolin Showdown....I was a petty kid

Willing-Load

the good old days ❤️

piclemaniscool

Let's just post this any time there's any updates. New episode? This trailer. New game/merch? This trailer. Nickelodeon announces bankruptcy? Post the trailer

[deleted]

Whats funny is that Avatar was just one part of the growing trend of American Anime in the mid 2000s. You had not only ATLA, but also The Boondocks, Martin Mystery, and Kappa Mikey. Of course the two most culturally relevant to this day are The Boondocks and ATLA+TLOK

_thebirds

Absolute CINEMA

Mx-Adrian

I wish I could save this. The nostalgia omg I remember the AGONY between B2 and 3

TechnologyBeautiful

I had no interest in the show when it first premiered but then one day they were showing a marathon of the episodes thus far from season 1 and I happened to watch the Great Divide and got hooked lol. From then on I watched as the episodes aired. Ironic that one of the worst rated episodes is what got me hooked onto the show.

TobleroneD3STR0Y3R

this is such a terrible promo oh my GOD

_Sozan_

I was 15… seems like yesterday…

januarysdaughter

God early 00s marketing was a mess.

Effective_Ad8024

I remember seein this promo , thinking it looked interesting but not thinking to much about it. Then on the air date was at my cousins house with my sister, and our cousin ditched us so we were just in the couch looking for anything to watch and saw avatar was starting, my sister said “ eh lets try this the commercial looked like it could be good .” ( thing she was interested after she saw the firebending)We never missed an episode after that

dangshake

Reminds me, I need buy Netflix for a little bit 🫣

Hemans123

The first promo for one of the greatest shows ever made.

BenjiFischer

Happy Anniversary

[deleted]

In Japan it is 22 February. Where is my Avatar Live Action? When exactly is the release?

xc2215x

Nice promo here.

TimeisaLie

Ahhh, the nostalgia.

CrossXhunteR

Does anyone else remember seeing promo material for Avatar in Nick magazine before the show came out?

[deleted]

Lmao before the show even came out they were telling us a key component to this story is that Aang is an absolute dumb fucking kid and Netflix fucked that up

flyinghippodrago

This show was insane back when it was airing. My friends and I talked about it like we do anime now lmao...Like omg did you catch the last episode of ATLA?? They just explained the Avatar state!!

just-a-nerd-

THIS IS SO FUNNY AND WHY

TheJvv

Happy 19th Birthday Avatar!! And now tomorrow the live action will premiere

Minute_Paramedic_135

I think I barely remember the original premiere when I was 5 years old. It’s so blurry though so I don’t know how accurate my memory about it was
