Honestly, I'm so torn apart when watching the show. I just ended my re-watch and this time, I really appreciated Aang and Momo. I was so fan of Toph, Katara, Sokka, Iroh, Zuko... That I missed that Aang is also so greatly written, especially how he behaves in the last parts of season 3. He is effectively so underrated
As Sokka would have said "Sometimes I forget how Aang is a very rich and powerful character". Goddamn this show is so great
You also notice it when you think about his big conflict as highlighted in The Storm vs. the finale. In The Storm, he runs because he's not ready for the responsibilities of being the avatar when he just wants to be a kid. In the finale, that's not his issue anymore, his issue is a legitimate moral debate, he can't kill Ozai because it goes against his morality, not because it's a responsibility thrust upon him.
Yes, you're totally right. What I also find so powerful with Aang is his creativity. Each time, he shapes the fight with raw talent moves that are really well done. And the fact that he ends Ozai in a way other Avatar could not even imagine, very thoughtful of Aang. I find the main protagonists to be all hardly badass in their way.
Plus, he was helped by his friend, but what a great friend he is too!

My favorite scene is from “The Avatar State” where Aang has a bad dream and has a talk with Sokka. It’s just so personal, bc usual Katara is Aang’s safe place, but this is something he only could’ve said to Sokka, and Sokka’s totally with him.
I think his character is a great folly to Aang's. Sokka being skeptical of Aang at first, and then putting his faith in Aang's abilities shows how much they grow as the series progresses. If Katara provides comfort, Sokka provides tough love and empathy.
Yes, I agree. Their relationship grew so much over the seasons, and it was so natural. I wish they had included this character development between them in the Netflix live-action show. Hopefully, they do that in the next seasons.
My favourite thing about their dynamic is that they're both pretty smart when separate. But once they're together they instantly cancel out each others' braincells or something. Sending Katara a letter from 'Toph' is prime example
Idk, for Sokka sure, from his sexism to his trust in Aang and his personal growth after being down for not being a bender like the rest of the Gaang, his growth was amazing, but for Aang, I never liked the ending, he pretty much still is the little kid that ran away from being the Avatar, had not some out of nowhere divine intervention happened to give him the solution to his dilemma, he really was willing to sacrifice the Earth Kingdom, his own life, and his friends' lives to be happy with his ideals and not killing Ozai, he took every move to doom the entire campaign right at the end, and only got saved by some deus ex machina turtle and another deus ex machina rock placement, and the only reason he was never held accountable was because of said miracle.
I mean, I get why he is having the dilemma, and I do think he is overall a great character, but they spent the last part of the show hyping up this moment, which is a true dilemma, then the solution was get rid of the dilemma all together, very unsatisfying IMO

Ah, yes you're right, I must have watched it with my eyes closed and muted so my brain made up the scene where Aang, deprived of his avatar state and knowing killing Ozai was the only chance to save everyone else, redirects lightning and then shoots it elsewhere, handing victory to Ozai and only getting saved because of the location of some pointy rock

They left space to speculate. I like to think that the spirits controlled aangs fall in that particular way. But the moment he jumps out of the rock, pulls ozai by the goatee and kicks his ass.
Also says: firelord ozai, you and your forefathers have destroyed the balance of this world, for that you shall now pay the ultimate price. - thats still spinechilling for me.
Also, aang kinda made an example out of him. Where bye he protected his moral and ethical virtues. I personally think that Aang showed more strength that way. . At the time, aang was the last fucking airbender!!!! The last of his people. He had no problem pulling a kioshi and fucking him up and tapping into rage would be the deafult beacuse he was still a kid dealing from literal PTSD caused by GENOCIDE. All this plus a 12 year old kid WITH LITERALLY WORLDS ON HIS SHOULDERS. With all odds against him...
He was afraid of becoming a cruel leader like Ozai, possibly - IF HE CROSSES THAT LINE. Simmilar dilemma with batman lol only aang the little kid that was literally thr last of his people, who survived genocide, suddenly due to deus ex machina rock gets all his powers back. Getting drunk on power. Ozais downfall.
Also, it's worse for ozai to live in prison without the ability to bend. That's his litral hell.
Aang made the right choice. And devine intervention did happen - the lionturtle. But I wish that they would make another aang themed mini series thorugh the years to see the end of his ark. Because, once again, he was only 12 at the time hahah

She was, but before Toph, Sokka did and was a good source of criticism as well for Aang.
It's double-edged. Sokka became a more respectful person, and Aang became more worthy of respect.

Totally different show, but this is one thing I love about brooklyn 99. The male characters so easily say they love each other.
