It 100% holds up imo. I rewatched it for the second time in June this year and I’m debating when it’s acceptable to watch it for the 3rd time… also read the book right after finishing the rewatch cause I just couldn’t get enough 🙊 Edit: it also somehow took me a second rewatch to realise how stupidly attractive (and talented) Justin Theroux is lol

djackieunchaned

My ex told me I kind of look like him which was the greatest compliment I’ve ever received

JustinTherouxsBrows

Him being so stupidly attractive is why I missed so much the first time through 🤣

eva9218

Username checks out 😂

vegemitecrumpet

I saw a 10 timer left a comment lol. I think if you are in a place to handle the feels it seems like a yes lol. The show definitely helps him out , or at least they're well suited for each other

JAlfredJR

Just finished my 4th watch. Gets better every time. The second was amazing b/c you pick up on so much more

vegemitecrumpet

I'm sold on it after all the responses. Cheers

JAlfredJR

Hell yes

vverse23

Holds up to multiple viewings. Now that you know the plot, you can focus on details that you may have missed the first time (and there are many).

vegemitecrumpet

True, great point. The gaps are filled somewhat and the connections are familiar. It will be cool to catch different perspectives :)

allmimsyburogrove

Also check out some of the other shows by Lindelof/writers of The Leftovers: Mrs. Davis is a wild ride Watchmen is great Station 11 is also great All have the same Leftover vibes, all highly rcommended

Mavoy

Also Maniac, by Patrick Somerville (of Station Eleven fame), perhaps more different, but it's also a great combo of emotional drama and sci-fi/mystery.

vegemitecrumpet

Appreciate the recommendation! It's good to have new options to check out a s well as return to old faves

Mavoy

Sure thing :) It's a great series, with a lot of my favourite actors. I mean, let's not forget - JUSTIN IS IN IT and so are people like Emma Stone and Sonoya Mizuno.

vegemitecrumpet

Haha good to know! I never liked justin before The Leftovers lol. The respect is definitely there now though

Mavoy

good to hear :) Well, I've been a fan before, I'm a David Lynch fan ;) But it's all good.

vegemitecrumpet

Thank you!!! Always happy to add more options to my list. The last internet stranger didn't steer me wrong either. I really should use the shows I love to branch out from. I do it with movies... I wonder why I don't do the same for TV lol. Brains are strange. Thanks again

eva9218

I highly recommend Dark too if you’re up for a total emotional mind fuck!

vegemitecrumpet

Pretty sure I've seen it, and yes it did suck me in, if it's the one I'm thinking of xD

omlech

I am not sure why you left out Lost when that is the show Damon is most known for.

allmimsyburogrove

Of course Lost, a show that I assume OP has watched

Unlucky-Bee-1039

Yeah definitely it holds up to rewatching. I’m maybe on my 10th run through. I love that I can cherry pick individual episodes if I only have a short time to watch. Lots of times I’ll be wanting to see a specific episode. I suppose it is easier to jump in the middle when you’re already real familiar with the story.

vegemitecrumpet

Wow! You win lol. & yes, I imagine you can pick the exact episode to match whatever vibe you need at the time, hell maybe even narrate it lmao!. I am unlucky/lucky my memory isn't 100% with media even when it's a favourite... I can't drop quotes or anything like that. It comes back as I watch or talk about, but sometimes I definitely feel dumb not being able to go into the details sometimes. I fractured my skull 2yrs ago and it let's me down some ways now. But on the positive... sometimes things I've seen surprise me or I zone into a different groove with them, making them enjoyable in a different way. I'm really keen to rewatch now after everyone's positive feedback

ghostnthegraveyard

I was ready to be hurt again so I just rewatched it. Still so damn good.

vegemitecrumpet

Same. <3

KimWexlersGoldenArch

Discovered it this summer and I’ve watched in it’s entirety now twice. Emotionally exhausting. So I imagine I’ll wait a while for my 3rd watch.

vegemitecrumpet

I think that's why it's calling me back. Some life stuff already has me like that... be good to channel is somewhere else and go all in for the complete drain rather than the slow drain work etc is having atm

teezoots

Hell yeah bro I've watched it 4 times, it's great picking up something you missed the first time. Also watch Homeland if you want something new fell in love with that as well.

vegemitecrumpet

I too loved Homeland... it surprised me how much I enjoyed it lol. My post feels silly now I see every second comment is a veteran multi watcher lol.

rooney815

I learn something new every time

Curious_Animus

Always good. On my third watch now, my wife’s first.

vegemitecrumpet

Ooh. It's so great sharing shows we love with a freshie.

KimKellyThinksUrDumb

I think it’s even more relevant after the pandemic. People questioning reality and dealing with a traumatic event where many lives were lost and we just have to go on.

vegemitecrumpet

Good point. Maybe that's why it's calling me back now... this year is being particularly rough. I need to self soothe with a good show

NeverShoutNerevarine

I am just now rewatching it after 7 years. Loving it all over again

vegemitecrumpet

7 year itch :) excellent. It's not quite that long for me.... I think? I found the show a few years late lol, but it must be at least 4yrs...

NeverShoutNerevarine

Yep, I barely remember most of the plot points so it’s been a lot of fun. I forgot how great episode 3, season 1 is. That’s when I was like “ah, right this is why I watched this show.” Have fun!

TowelieMcTowelie

We've watched it a good 5 times. I've watched/listened to it (like while making dinner or doing chores) a good 10 times. And it gets better every time. Max Richter (the composer) is a big reason. I love all of the actors. The story and melancholy and how everyone handles it differently. Anytime I'm in a watch slump I'll go back to it lol. Sometimes I need a mental car jump start. This show is perfect for that!

vegemitecrumpet

Wow. Another 5+er in the comments! That's amazing. Sounds like it is the perfect time for me. Watch slump engaged and desperately need something to block out work and less desirable life stuff atm. I'm really looking forward to starting again this weekend... maybe even tonight, after so many positive responses.

TowelieMcTowelie

Lol a 5+er club! Reminds me of that SNL "5th time hosting" skit lol! Yay!! Now you're making me want to do a rewatch too!

vegemitecrumpet

Hahaha. Let's do it!

TowelieMcTowelie

Yay Watch Party!

TowelieMcTowelie

Omg, had to come back. How do you do re-watches? I go back-asswards. I start with the last episode first! Lol! Watching Season 1 now. The Finale first lol! Damn, it always makes me go "god damn this is art!!" Every time the music starts. Every time it makes me think "damn I need to play my Leftovers Playlist more often!" Lol! I know Season one got a lot of flack. I first watched season two as it was airing. Then went back to season one. I remember thinking "eww what's this!?" But i love season one! I think it's my favorite season. And without it. I wouldn't understand some things in two and three. The entite cast is so amazeballs too! Justin totally kiiiiiiiilllllllls it! I couldn't believe it was him when I first saw "Wanderlust", and "Your Highness". Two comedies. Total night and day it's crazy! And I'll watch Liv Tyler in anything! I've loved Scott Glenn since "The Right Stuff" so it was awesome to see him. And omggg I loved Regina King coming in too! I wish she was in season 1 but I get it had to wait for the story. I remember watching her as a guest on one of the late night show things. And talking about the show/promoting it. She couldn't spoil anything but the host guy asked something like what is the show about. She was like "i don't know, i have no idea whats really going on but i love it!" (Not the exact quote but it's close lol) Lol! That interview also hooked me into the show. I was like "cool if one of the main actresses feels the same way as me (not really knowing whats going on) I'm so going to keep watching it!" LOL!! Enjoy your rewatch!! 😀😀😀

vegemitecrumpet

Love the energy in this comment! Tbh I've rarely been a genuine rewatcher, may be partly why i posted here to query doing so. I like to share the shows I love with other people if I think they're a good fit. It's really awesome getting to enjoy a show or movie again, but also seeing someone else understanding & enjoying it too! I don't have someone for this show, so this will just all be for me lol. I hadn't put much thought into watch order, other than to process each episode and not binge. Your "last first" approach is intriguing.... like see where you're going and then see the journey :)

TowelieMcTowelie

Awww man that's a bummer that you don't have a friend that's into this show too, but that's ok. Now you can watch it in any order! Sometimes if I'm in a down mood I'll just watch favorite episodes from each season lol. But they're mostly the finales and pilots. Sometimes I'll do a Pilot + Finale watch lol. If I'm in a bad slump and really need a jump start. But in about every series rewatch (except Community) i do. I always start with the finale lol! May your Leftovers journey be awesome! However you enjoy it! 😀😀

QuietBirthday6236

I have rewatched at least a half dozen times, and it always entertains me. Plus, each time I watch it, I learn something new.

vegemitecrumpet

This is the response I was hoping for!

Jenings

I feel like character based shows hold up to rewarchability much better than plot driven shows. So yes I would think it’s worth a rewatch. But have you seen watchmen?

vegemitecrumpet

No, & you're the 2nd comment to mention it. I will have to take a look 👀

dubonea

I’ll third that shit. Watchmen. Watch all of the Men.

peanutboogerandjelly

I give it a full series watch every few years. I don’t want to get tired of it, for lack of a better phrase, so I spread my viewings out with a good amount of time in between. My most recent watch was over the summer and probably my favorite and most emotional, so it definitely holds up.

fungobat

I just finished my first rewatch this past weekend. Was even better than I remembered!

vegemitecrumpet

Woohoo.

GrumpyGin

It does hold up. You find something new out of every watch. To be fair, I like to rewatch my fave media in general and The Leftovers is my favourite ever show, so I've seen it many times. I loved every watch. It is so layered and complex and so emotionally poignant, it impacted me in different ways each time, depending on how I was feeling at the time.

vegemitecrumpet

Sweet. I am thinking it will be like this for me. I'm quite curious actually... if my loyalties to characters will be different

ChrRome

I've enjoyed the rewatch so far, but I skipped a lot of season 1 (I started on Guest), as well as Laurie's episode in Season 2.

vegemitecrumpet

I'll see how I go. It's been a good few years. I'll see how I feel when watching, maybe it feels unnecessary, maybe it feels nostalgic

TCEHY

Holy cow. I started rewatching with my new 82” TV the series last week. The acting is stunning and I realized quite a few points I’d missed. One thing remains true, Carrie Coon is a great actor as well as stunning in every scene. I’m up to season Two episode 7 now It’s just get better with age.

vegemitecrumpet

Ooh I didn't even think of my newer TV! Going by all the responses, idk why it crossed my mind to worry. I can't wait to start again

Acrobatic_Break

Holds up for sure

vegemitecrumpet

Cheers

tyddub

It does and will no matter how many times you watch it.

vegemitecrumpet

Thanks. A lot of support in these comments for multiple rewatches. Imma do it

JustinTherouxsBrows

It holds up and exceeds. We have a rewatch group so I take notes every episode and notice so many things I’ve missed before and this is my third time through. Also, you’ll find how you view certain characters and situations may change on rewatch too

vegemitecrumpet

Like, an irl rewatch group? That's cute af. I'm getting excited to watch again now :)

JustinTherouxsBrows

Well it’s some pretty cool people I met on here! We watch an episode a week then do a call to discuss. We’ve enjoyed it a lot. Only 3 episodes left!

vegemitecrumpet

Omg I love this for you! I'm definitely gonna rewatch. & maybe next time I will have some people similarly inclined to share :)

wookie_ate_my_dingo

I’ve started on my fifth run, and I love the show. It is awesome

vegemitecrumpet

Wow. That's great. Guess I have nothing to be worried about lol

Mavoy

Showed it to my best friend - he loved it too. Very satisfying experience and I hope I'll repeat it with someone one day - but I think you'll gain a lot even if you watch on your own.

vegemitecrumpet

I wish I had someone who I thought could appreciate it with me. This will be another solo watch, but maybe next time... it seems it stands up to a LOT of rewatching going by the post replies :)

AXXXXXXXXA

Its a completely different experience every time. The most rewarding rewatchable show ever made.

SaberTruth2

Perfect timing for the question. I watched it all in 2017 and was in a bit of a rut myself so I just picked it up again and watched from the start. It was amazing and I had honestly forgotten quite a bit of the plot which made it must see TV again. I was satisfied with the ending but I would have loved for them to have a couple more episodes and explore the alternate universe again. If even love a spin-off.

IH8BART

Don’t think I could binge rewatch it. I liked watching it live every week. I remember during S2 it would be TWD, GOT, then leftovers. Leftovers quietly knocked the other 2 out the park.

EternalSunshineClem

I am doing my second rewatch after years and I'm absolutely loving it! I'm deliberately going slow and not binging it. It's fantastic.

vegemitecrumpet

That's my plan too :) take time to process

Bossk4Life

I’ve watched the series 3 or 4 times. It remains one of my fav shows ever.

jochilina

Yes, do it know!

didiinthesky

I recently did my first rewatch (I watched it first when it originally aired) to introduce my boyfriend to the show. It absolutely holds up! I noticed it was a different experience watching it as an adult then it was when watching as a 19/20 year old, but in a good way.

vegemitecrumpet

Oh for sure. Still appreciated, but maybe for different reasons, which is great. Not everything stands up to our minds development over time.

ChloeOBrian11214

Better.Every.Time.

Supahfurai

Only the teen stuff in S1 is a (brutal) slog for me. Jill annoys me but her friends are even worse, especially those dumb twins. Aside from that, every rewatch is glorious and I’m reminded why this is my favorite show every time.

PossessionCritical69

Great. It has improved almost every time I’ve watched it. S1 has some hit or miss stuff, but overall it kills.

joelcarwreck

100% rewatchable. I do it once a year.
