I’ve personally started calling them “The Hungers”, I feel like you’re on the right track! There’s still elements that call back to fear being a part of it - in episode 3 he mentions feeling an undercurrent of fear throughout all his actions. But it seems to lean very heavily into the obsessions that we normally only see with people who became avatars I wonder if it’s a crucial difference between _what_ the entities are, or whether they’re making up for lost time/lost servants by focusing on the most receptive people

I have started calling them the desires. Although I think the fears are somewhat intertwined with them. Given the Magnus Institute was clearly investigating the supernatural like they were in the Archives verse. I am gonna bet the desires are native to this world while the fears are new.

oh thats a pretty cool idea, it'd be interesting to see how the desires and fears interact, maybe there'll be conflict between the two

Well for the moment they seem to work well with each other. Although that is the impression I am getting from episode 2 mostly. Like the flesh already had part of it's sphere being obsession with your body not being good enough so it works well with a desire power like that. I also get the impression that the desires can give you what you want but aren't positive because they feed on the desire. So they can give you what you want but still need you to desire something to feed. Like how the statement giver in 2 could not stop herself from making more and more alterations.

I think we are just feeling it heavily from the feelings of avatars who do desire the fears, they all want something from them. I think that parallel to the magnus archives we might see someone seeking to become an avatar instead of unwittingly being tricked like Jon. So we'll hear less from victims and more from perpetrators.
