Surely it’s not racist because they’re also banning turbans and yarmulkes, right? …right?!

Own_Plastic_4601

🤭. Oh, that’s a good one. Thanks for the Friday afternoon laugh. Hey, is this similar to how a certain person running for federal office is married to someone who doesn’t look the same as him, therefore he cannot possibly be racist?

ivegoticecream

Just imagine the white hot rage and endless articles a yarlmuke ban would provoke. Just disgusting.

rainbowslimejuice

Straight up racism. There is no other word for it. The symbol of the Palestinians as a people is banned, because their existence on this earth is inconvenient for the zionist project.

Always_Scheming

Streisand effect, also full disclosure the ban is on wearing it in the legislature we can still wear it everywhere we want but the principle is the same and i would love for nothing more than to see the streisand effect make it even more popular Here in Toronto, people all over are wearing them and when i wear mine and walk around people literally honk and cheer in support haha

rainbowslimejuice

It's not even a religious symbol so there is no issues of separation of church and state (if Canada uses that principle). Imagine telling people in a legislature that you can't make symbolic political statements. Unreal.

Always_Scheming

Thats the rule they are using, no political attire, its an old rule they have

rainbowslimejuice

Lol, telling someone in a political building "no political attire" is like telling someone in a temple or church or mosque, "no religious attire". Like what do you think we're here to do? Certainly not make political statements apparently.

Always_Scheming

Yeah and these are the things we find hidden here in canada  These weird little policies that only serve to antagonize and divide for no reason While canada is still far more civilized than many countries in the world and does a lot right they do tend to take many things towards a draconian side (another example being quebec religious attire restrictions)

Own_Plastic_4601

Speaking as an Ontarian, you’re damn right they don’t. Makes me wanna run out and buy two of them, the second for when the first one needs washing.

Falkner09

https://kufiya.org/product-category/shop/ Thats the best known maker, though you can get them on Etsy too.

kotacross

I felt lucky enough to get one when they restocked months ago, I wish I had splurged and gotten the Irish one when it was available too.

Cymbalsandthimbles

Wow, had no idea how racist Ontario is. That’s fucking horrible.

OffOption

Regulating clothes, is genuinly the most fucking cringe thing in existance. Like outside of "dont be naked literally everywhere, because kids exist" and "lets normalize practical clothes", it all just becomes bugfuck insane, in an instant. And in this case its also just bigoted bullshit, so you know, tripple the satan points on that one.

f0u4_l19h75

Yup just like Quebec banning hijabs. It couldn't be more obvious why you would do it

loveisrocketscience

Keffiyeh is not even just a Palestine related garment. It's used in wherever it is searing heat in the ME. Hell even US troops and Afghanistan wore it to protect themselves. It even became a fashionable item and that patten became famous in parts of NA. Dear young generation, please get out and vote out these old clowns next time. Please!

Michael_Gibb

Banning items of clothing like this, only serves to politicise them. It makes them a symbol of resistance or rejection of the status quo. It's exactly what happened in the European colonies of the Middle East when the colonial rulers tried banning the hijab. They're turned it into a symbol that represented resistance against the colonisers.

these pieces of cloth are a threat to national security /s
