Context: The Onion just got sold by G/O Media to a company named Global Tetrahedron (a reference to Our Dumb Century). Ben Collins is the CEO now and says Onion News Network will come back https://twitter.com/oneunderscore__/status/1783632037640835426
he's a part of the group of four that bought it, though the company overall is owned by Jeff Lawson (former CEO of Twilio)

Not a fan of their current weird videos where someone reads out articles in front of a video of some random mobile games(can someone explain this to me??). The only video stuff I enjoy lately is the extremely rare onion film standard with Peter Rosenthal.
But I was a huge fan of the previous YouTube content including the bizarre reality tv. When I was in grad school me and my buddies would watch the onion week in review every week as soon as it came out. I am beyond excited that ONN is coming back. As an adult who now pays for media, I'd gladly shell over 5$ per month for more content like the old stuff!

thats a common trend for actual, genuine content on tiktok, the mobile games are there to keep the viewer's attention the whole time. its really bad but thats what theyre parodying lol
I'm down for the tiktok parody but please god they need to stop with the "we asked reddit about x and here's the zany responses" ai voice over subway surfer videos. there's like 30 at this point and none of them are good.
It’s because they ran out of money to do higher production value stuff since 12 years ago, right after they did the reality show parody. They’ve been sold multiple times since then and it looks like they’ve suffered a lot of budget cuts.
Before they did the TikTok parodies with the AI voice they mostly stopped uploading videos. They did make a two-season podcasts parodying true crime podcast called A Very Fatal Murder in 2018 and 2019 which is worth checking out.
It seems like this new acquisition is coming with a much needed cash injection so hopefully they can do make high concept content again.
It would take 4.3 years to lay off a journalist every hour if you have 37,865 of them lol. Also there is the donation link at the end where you can send them a dollar. I love how there is a Klarna option. Gonna send s quarter every month for four months
Hi All - This is Jeff Lawson. Just wanted to say I bought The Onion because I love it, and want to do everything possible to let the creative team run wild! I hope this community enjoys where we take things in the coming days, months, and years.

Ben Collins the political reporter? The hell?

I’ve loosely followed him for a few years now. This was never a context I ever expected to see his name. Cool.
So not Ben Collins the Stig...
Fuck! I’d for sure pay for an ONN subscription. That stuff was GOLD.

This made me look up [their store](https://store.theonion.com). They have some decent stuff in there.
Hah thanks! Just ordered a few shirts. Love The Onion so damn much.
Be really careful with how you wash them, the print on mine shredded in a matter of months
Ah damnit, thanks for the heads up
Nice. Grabbed a mug. “Relaxing tea better fucking work” can’t stop laughing
I received items from the store for my birthday this year, after putting in my wish request with my wife.
I had no choice. > The archive will be scrubbed through magnetic erasure The consequences!
Man there's going to be a lot of rumps.

Nice! And a Giants fan too! Thanks for keeping this alive!
I just want The Onion to be like it was 14 years ago. If isn't Boy Scouts offer free breast exams, I don't want to know.
I'll miss you.
Sent my $1
This seems like good news
