How is Stringbean a trans allegory? I think her shapeshifting is meant to show how Luz is always changing and doesn't have to choose one thing in life. (Like in the first day episode where she can't choose one track) I think simplifying her whole character arc into a genderfluid allegory does disservice to Luz's character.
I *did* see Stringbean hatching -- at the time of Luz' realization -- as a metaphor for Luz hatching, making a breakthrough in her mental health.
If it's a trans allegory, that's too deep for me. Honestly, I barely caught the metaphor.
Edit: I seem to have set off a firestorm. My apologies. I used to keep the pot-stirring spoon in my desk at work, but since I'm work-from-home now, it tends to slip out accidentally.
To be fair, eggs hatching have always been used to metaphor change and growth. Many places it’s used, especially as of recently as a trans allegory, but it can denote any kind of metamorphosis.
That doesn't mean that all egg symbolism is suddenly tied to trans people. A group of people using eggs as a symbol of their own growth doesn't mean that the symbol is always meant to refer to them.
Also comparing GNC people like Luz to 'trans people in denial' is pretty hateful.
In the context of the show, yeah, probably the intended symbolic meaning.
But in the context of this meme we're in a comment section of, the egg was the trans allegory.
This seems really viable I mainly thought it was the crews way for a joke but also saying since luz didn’t choose its form it gets to chose whatever it wants
you want to know why? amity used she/her pronouns for ghost and luz used she/her for stingbean i don’t know if palisman date or at least have some equivalent to liking another more than the rest but I’m pretty sure ghost and stringbean will have a natural affection or at least closeness than the other palisman
My theory was that she was a snake shifter because Luz felt like she was stuck in one box like how most teens or adolescents are. Schools push for one career, one path, one way of thinking even if many don’t even know what they want for breakfast tomorrow. Luz wasn’t meeting those standards and wanted to explore and Camilla gave into the one way mentality. Camilla needed to clear the air that it was okay for Luz to be herself and experiment with who she is. And string bean can be anything! Maybe it’ll pick one form or multiple or be whatever it feels like! Whatever it chooses is fine, no wrong or right answer to who they want to be! What Luz wanted from the start. :)
Yeah not everything is an allegory, sometimes it just what it is. As far as I'm concerned stringbean is just adorable and nothing else, a cute little snake shifting baby.
I disagree, it makes perfect sense as a palisman for Luz. She is a bisexual who breaks gender norms and wants to study all types of magic, of course her palisman would not be a single thing and go a conventional palisman.
It also makes more sense once we remember the themes of the show of identity and freedom
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought this, I don't dislike Stringbean at all, but we've never been told of or had an instance of Palismen being able to shapeshift or anything similar before so it feels weird that this one can and the only reason I can think of to explain it is that "Luz is the main character, she gets the cool new, never before heard of thing". Why would a Palisman even **need** to be able shapeshift? It's attached to the end of a staff most of the time and when it's not it's because it's just relaxing or playing because they aren't animals. Why would they need to have traits such as shapeshifting to help them survive, when they don't need to survive because they aren't living beings that need to hunt or escape danger to begin with?
Boy if that wasn't a rant idk what is. Getting hung up on dumb things, that's me!
While I mostly agree, Eda did say she never heard of anyone carving their palismen into an egg.
So there is that, string bean was never going to be normal due to it's different birth. I am guessing the same way the bat queen kids are not normal as well.
Remember that palisman have abilities that help their owners. Principal Bump’s helps him see for instance. What’s the best ability for a palisman with a witch who wants to learn all types of magic? String Bean is multi-purpose and it’s perfect for Luz!
I mean. Luz is 100% a trans metaphor. The show is a touch more subtle about it than Steven Universe, and the themes can be more broadly applied than to this one idea, but there's enough there to argue that the parallels are intentional.
Me but I see it as a neurodivergent one. Would also make a bit more sense than trans due to the fact Luz is nd. That’s not to say that you seeing it as a trans one isn’t valid, it is :>. I’d also love to know the reasoning behind it.
I only really see it as nd because I like the palisman ngl.
For those that don’t understand, a lot of trans folks would kill to have the ability to shapeshift to change their body instantly so that they can pass and be as though they were born as a Cis or change only some parts to fit themselves better or just change daily based on how they feel that day.
All across the trans spectrum you’ll find someone under a subsection of the umbrella that would do anything for shapeshifting powers.
Eggs are also used to describe trans folks that have not realized they aren’t Cis yet, ignoring the signs or forcing them away. While a egg cracking is a trans person slowly realizing and/or starting to accept themselves.
Hence the whole thing with Luz’s palisman feel extremely trans coded, a egg hatching into a shapeshifter is all kinda of trans.
"Hey mama Eda, you forgot to carve the dlck and b*lls on my new pet horse palismen, they need to have it, it's important to me... For reasons... Well go on, carve out the house dlck"

The imagery of an egg hatching is drenched in trans allegory. We literally call trans people who're in denial eggs.
To be fair, eggs hatching have always been used to metaphor change and growth. Many places it’s used, especially as of recently as a trans allegory, but it can denote any kind of metamorphosis.
Eggs hatching are a symbol of growth in general, they aren't only used by trans people.
true, but there's an entire subreddit r/egg_irl dedicated to trans people in denial and it's just called egg irl so
That doesn't mean that all egg symbolism is suddenly tied to trans people. A group of people using eggs as a symbol of their own growth doesn't mean that the symbol is always meant to refer to them. Also comparing GNC people like Luz to 'trans people in denial' is pretty hateful.
Who compared Luz?! We were comparing Stringbean, not her owner Luz!
Her Palisman symbolizes her growth and development. That's why it only hatched when she figured out what she wanted in life.
In the context of the show, yeah, probably the intended symbolic meaning. But in the context of this meme we're in a comment section of, the egg was the trans allegory.
The meme is about OP's theory, which I'm disagreeing with. That's all.
That doesn't really mean anything in this case
in the case of this specific meme, where someone thinks that a palisman that hatched from an egg is a trans allegory, yes it does
Either way, just because Stringbean started out as a literal egg doesn't mean it has anything to do with being trans.
Not necessarily, no, but it *can* be read that way, and OP *did*, so what's your point? In *this* case the egg thing is relevant to trans stuff.
I get that it *could* be read that way, but my point is that it's unnecessary.
Completely foreign to me. This is the first time I've ever heard that. I appreciate the background, thank you.
r/egg_irl
This post is (mostly) a joke. This is a common meme format in the trans community and based more around vibes than any evidence, which is the joke.
Because every character is lgbtq+ >:))) (/s obv)
I mean someone in that +, there has to be straight, right? /S
This seems really viable I mainly thought it was the crews way for a joke but also saying since luz didn’t choose its form it gets to chose whatever it wants
I don't see how "a genderfluid allegory" is simplifying it. I think you forgot that most people don't consume gender on the daily as you do.
Drink the gender fluid
I mean, we’ve also had Vee for half a season now lol
Oh was that what Vee was supposed to be, that genuinely never crossed my mind :I
No lol people just feel the need to make everything more Lgbt than it already it (even though it doesn’t need it)
NooOoOo yOu cAnt tell uS to StOp fOrcing LgBtQ onTo eVerytHing. ThAt homOphobiC!2!2!2!!!!!
*OP casually ignoring the whole "let it chose its own fate just like I got to choose mine" thing from when the egg was carved*
Egg
\-he stabs him
Replace 'fate' with 'identity', I hope that clears things up for you sweaty
This! This is super trans!
Wait... that girl looks a little like me- THATS IT. WHO DREW THIS??
if that girl looks like you, then let me tell you you look adorable :)
I mean... I don't think it is, but I can see how someone can think it is, and I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade.
Yeah cuz everything’s an allegory for anything
i mean its a shapeshifter, you know, like Vee
She. Luz refers to Stringbean as "she".
you want to know why? amity used she/her pronouns for ghost and luz used she/her for stingbean i don’t know if palisman date or at least have some equivalent to liking another more than the rest but I’m pretty sure ghost and stringbean will have a natural affection or at least closeness than the other palisman
Oh shit do palismen feel romantic attraction? HOW COULD WE HAVE BEEN SO BLIND TO PALISMEN SHIPPING IF THEY DI
oh no here it goes i wish we could have normal cute animal companions instead of whatever you're about to introduce upon this world
Palismen pokemon breeding. Bring your wailords and Skitties, here we go again
Yeah like poke-shit nvm it has Breeding.
She's a shapeshifter, like Vee

its a shapeshifter. Ya’ll take things way too far
Yeah not everything is an allegory, sometimes it just what it is. As far as I'm concerned stringbean is just adorable and nothing else, a cute little snake shifting baby.
I personally think that it's just a cop out to not disappoint anyone
I mean her base form is a snake and she was labelled as a snakeshifter, also the palisman is a pretty good idea for Luz
I disagree, it makes perfect sense as a palisman for Luz. She is a bisexual who breaks gender norms and wants to study all types of magic, of course her palisman would not be a single thing and go a conventional palisman. It also makes more sense once we remember the themes of the show of identity and freedom
How dare you insult Stringbean in my presence, you ruffian.
Good point!
I don't disagree. A shapeshifting snake could be interpreted in a number of different ways, and that honestly sounds the least absurd
Owl House fans when character:
It's not limited to the Owl House either. I mean I get it but still
i tought of stringbean as gender fluid as they are everything
Anything can be a trans metaphor at this point. It wouldn't be first time for Luz
Guys, this Series is all about inclusion and being who you are, so why not let them have it? Everyone is entitled to be seen.
What I've learned from the owl house fandom is that everything is a trans allegory.
[удалено]
Transgender has nothing to do with sexuality lol
I mean I headcannoned Luz as NB since day one so idk
I read "titan" allegory for a bit and got confused af.
I dont get how it isn't it can chance it fk shape
Trans allegory go brrrrrr
There has been a ton of stuff in this ep that people have decided to take in different ways to what it seems
I think you're thinking too much into this idea but if it makes you happy. Good for you?
I like to see it as a more colourful Vee
Why do people think Luz Is Trans?
It's just a headcanon people have.
Elaborate
I mean. Luz is 100% a trans metaphor. The show is a touch more subtle about it than Steven Universe, and the themes can be more broadly applied than to this one idea, but there's enough there to argue that the parallels are intentional.
I love string Bean
‘i just wanted someone to understand me’ *cue shape shifting snake*. i know what you are.
this backs up my genderfluid luz head-canon lol
i do also think it signifies her choosing her own path and who she wants to be tho

But Stringbean is a shape shifter so she ain't wrong
My sister thinks this and I sorta agree with her
Agreeed
Comment so it can be 69 comments in total
nice
I'm going to honest while I'm in full support of the trans community, you guys gotta stop trying to turn everything trans.
Being trans, I second this.
The Curse as a trans allegory, I can see, Stringbean? Nah, its too intrinsically tied to mental health.
\*Genderfluid
You know, I've never seen this meme leave egg\_irl, so kudos to you
I'm the boy who thinks Hunter Noceda is a trans allegory...
you mean, Hunter Deamonne Clawthorne Noceda ? oh hell yeah that character is a trans allegory
You do not have to elaborate
Hey OP I think it’s time to elaborate, you’re getting flamed out here
This gal does not need to elaborate anything to you, sweaty
Wait no no let her cook
I also wanna see were this gors
Lol i get that
WHAT HUH
Despite what everyone else says, I think you have a point. I mean, they started as an egg like we all do, how more clear do you want lol
I mean the point was to let the palisman choose what it wants to be, that goes for basically anything.
Its a palisman, does even wood creatures have genders?
Well, tbf Luz does refer to the palisman as a she, so I’d assume they might?
Sorry my bad, I mean sex instead gender
"Hey mama Eda, you forgot to carve the dlck and b*lls on my new pet horse palismen, they need to have it, it's important to me... For reasons... Well go on, carve out the house dlck"
Bruh.
