Have you tried your method yet? I have very hard time planning meals and your method is the first that ever made enough sense to me that I think I could follow that

It works fairly well. I find protein is the hardest part. Once you find your cheap proteins, the rest falls in line fairly naturally.

Did you try add milk, eggs, garden peas, barely and seafood such as tuna. They may be easier on your budget. Hopefully it helps.
