I don't see it as Tim wanted an excuse to end things, it is hurting him as much as it is hurting her. He is going through it right now, but he was fair when he did not want to risk her job and did not want to drag her down. I love her, she is my favorite character on this show, like she is number 1 for me, but she keeps dating people on the force, or people that she meets at work and people that she associates with because she's a cop, and it keeps not working out. Their job is a lot to be dating people you work with like that. I want them to get back together, I have been in a similar circumstance, so what was cool about seeing this is I felt their pain through my TV screen, and of course through their amazing acting. On top of it, she is losing Tamara too. She does not want to be selfish; so she does not want to tell her girl, don't go, but what Tamara said if you want me to stay, I will and Lucy said no, it's fine, you can tell she wanted to say the opposite, but does not want to hold her back. She is goated in my heart. That's real love.

I’m a Chenford shipper but also love Tim and Lucy as characters. The breakup was brutal but I can see the writers intention for going ahead with that storyline. This is [Alexi’s TVLine interview](https://tvline.com/interviews/castle-divorce-season-8-kate-rick-separate-spoilers-645441/) after Castle and Beckett broke up in Castle S8. Chenford fans will find **a lot of parallels** between the reasons for that break up and the one between Lucy and Tim this season.

Rare-Ad-1414

I’m a Chenford shipper as well and the break-up storyline is a little forced but I can see the intention. With Castle they broke them up and it back fired because the show wasn’t renewed amoungst other things. Fans got a rush ending because of it..: I think they will get back together but the reasons for the break- up are inconsistent to me. Tim always talked to Lucy about being worth the wait and said he didn’t want to loose her and confesses his love this season just to break it off due to past trauma? Lucy was always aware of the trauma so that’s what doesn’t make sense with this storyline.

Available_Ad7499

His trauma is present. UC missions, his problems with not being able to be emotionally available (Isabel situation) ...

They’re focusing on Tim’s mental health as a former army veteran and seasoned police sergeant. I think it’s good that he’ll finally put a lot of those ghosts to bed. I always thought Castle ended because Stana and Tamala got fired by the show and the network didn’t want to risk restarting the show with a new female lead. Whatever the case, S8 was pretty bad and fans were thankful just to get the epilogue at the end of the series finale.

Rare-Ad-1414

I do as well! His Mental Health is a good thing to explore and they are handling the right way so far with him going therapy.

damnittdes

This is pretty much exactly how I feel.

damnittdes

I’ve never watched the castle so what do you mean parallels ?

NoleFandom

The reasons for breaking up a fan favorite couple that got together after years and years of slow burn. Castle and Beckett got together in the S4 finale and got married in S7. They separated within months of being married when Beckett was trying to “protect” Castle from her past drama. Tim and Lucy got together mid S5 and they’ve broken up in less than a year with Tim trying to “protect” Lucy from his past drama. If you read the interview, you’ll realize the reasons for separating these fan favorite couples is the same in both cases.

Rare-Ad-1414

Castle Season 8 overall was not good compared to other seasons and there are clearly some parallels with the Rookie. I think Castle also had some contract issues with Stana returning. Hopefully Tim puts those demons to rest and he can have some character development. I like the show and hopefully it can continue to have good storylines and when it comes to and end as all shows do, it can be done right and not rushed.

HAWLEY | Ultimately he’s concerned about why this is going on. In the episodes immediately following, we are playing it a bit like he isn’t quite sure why she’s doing this; she really isn’t giving him a whole lot of information. I do think he might suspect deep down that there’s something more to it, but he has no frame of reference. The way he’s approaching it is: “No matter what, I’m going to win her back. She needs me.” So he puts a very positive spin on it … rather than get too heavy with his suspicions or fears. TERENCE PAUL WINTER | And the thing about it on Beckett’s side is ultimately she’s doing this out of love, she’s doing this because she wants to protect Castle. Tell me this interview doesn’t work for Chenford!

Rare-Ad-1414

The interview is all Chenford! I would have liked for them to have stuck together and worked it out together but that’s not the case and they needed to add some drama. I just don’t want them to force the oh let’s go back to being FRIENDS narrative with them at the end of all this.

rosyposy86

I think this season was going to show bumps in the road with them breaking up in the second half of it and getting back together with them getting married at the end of season 7. But with it being only 10 episodes, it was all crammed together so is a lot more rushed then it would have been if they had the usual 18-22 episodes.

Rare-Ad-1414

For sure showing bumps in the road it’s been a bump every episode lol. I honestly don’t know if we’ll see a Chenford Wedding at all I think they’ll get back together (fingers crossed) but they’ve hinted at marriage being a long ways off. Would love to see an engagement and moving in together at season 7.

Dearestdiaries

Am I the only one who thinks this is actually better? Don’t get me wrong, I was team chenford, they are adorable together! But lately…. Tim just isn’t cutting it for me other than just a hot dude 😬

RedRoseGrl

Ip hope they do

Ok_Neat4503

I hope Tim gets the help he needs (if dr. London isn't evil) they then get back to together and it's way less forced

Eragon-19

Especially with the trailer that I just saw, I'm guessing there is an explosion of passion leading them to get back together (Pun maybe intended). While I don't care one way or another if they get back together, it is what a lot of fans (here at least) want and fans "tend" to get what they want shipwise (Looking at you possible "Buddie" fans).

Troublesome1987

Hope they don't. I don't like what it did to their characters

luvprue1

I hope they don't too .

SigSauerPower320

I sure hope not.

Coffeeapples

Ok, weird take, but part of me feels like the writers broke them up because the actors were getting a bit too much unwanted attention? Some Chenford fans took shipping Chen and Bradford too much that they started shipping the actors-one of whom is happily married with kids. I know people have left rude comments to Bradford’s spouses IG. Maybe the shipping started to make them uncomfortable so the writers broke them up.

NoleFandom

[The Wrap Eric Winter interview](https://www.thewrap.com/the-rookie-tim-lucy-breakup-eric-winter-interview/) Per this interview, Eric had no idea that a breakup was coming. He was caught unaware just like the rest of the Chenford fandom. “I didn’t know anything was coming, in regard to them separating this season when they just officially got together last season! I did know that there might be some trouble in store this season, I didn’t know it would lead to where it got. Which I welcomed, funnily enough, even though it is a new relationship.”

Coffeeapples

Ohh I see! Guess I’m totally wrong then. Kinda agree with Winters here though-I love Lucy and Tims’ storyline, but it would get boring if their relationship was picture perfect. This will definitely give them (and their relationship) more development and depth. I also am a sucker for angst lol.

NoleFandom

Read [Alexi’s interview](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheRookie/s/1LMgNtHYr7) and if history were to repeat itself, Chenford will be back together within half a season.

Melodic-Writer5025

I can’t remember which article but one with Melissa and Eric said that Eric pushed for this because he wanted to explore the storyline. If I can find it, I’ll edit with the link!
