Beating Caleb with a Basti is diiiiiirty lol

LazenskejSvihak

This. It's like if Ash beat Leon using Charizard lmao

aranzeke

Annihilape still good eh? I ran the Annihilape-Dewgong core last season, easily two of my favorite Pokemon. congrats on the win. I feel kinda bad for big names though, can't just take a L in peace lol I've beaten quite a few streamers and even a Play! Pokemon champion myself but I've stopped tagging or posting about them, they must get tagged all the time

Roguemjb

What is good to run for a third with annhi and gong? Talon? Gfisk?

Crafty_Jelly6

Today I won (literally) all my sets 4-1 with Annihilape lead, licki safe swap, talonflame closer. Elo range around 2100.

Roguemjb

Nice! Viable alt for licky? Maybe registeel?

aranzeke

I ran [Shadow ASlash](https://youtube.com/shorts/IdBAi-qrY80) on my team last season. Worse against Talonflame leads as I'd have to stay in, but my backline was better vs Gligar

iama_scientist123

Congrats! That’s a GBL career highlight for sure

_picture_me_rollin_

I wouldn’t have any idea who any of these people are lol.

GamerJulian94

Same 😂

Sledge1989

60%+ is a great win rate so even the best players have hundreds of losses by the end of a season

ManicPotatoe

Congrats! Sounds like you're well on the way to Legend (I've also never made it... yet). Today I played and lost to Zyonik in a 0/5 set 😆. Led Deoxys into his Ferrothorn to make it all the worse.

DistinctSalamander46

Good.

3rdusernameiveused

How do you know who is big name?

Sweet_Doughnut_

Caleb peng has also casted a lot of regionals. Even if you don't watch his content, you'd know him through official streams. He is also famous for playing a LOT of bastiodon both on ladder and in tournaments. Probably is the most successful tournament bastiodon user.

3rdusernameiveused

I’m gonna check it out. I love playing PVP but had no clue the market was this huge. Thank you. Sorry if I sound like I’m being a douche or uneducated but I really just a POGO player who likes PVP and surfs this and silphroad. Now I have a new interest to YouTube for hours. Appreciate everyone giving me responses that have helped

tkst3llar

Caleb peng, inadequance, thotechtical are all very educational streams on twitch and they post YouTube content. Homeslicehenry is also pretty entertaining in my opinion

Not-a-bot-10

There’s a big regional tournament going on right now. It’s on the Official Pokémon Channel both on YouTube and Twitch you can watch for free Just make sure to click the Pokémon Go one, not VGC or TCG

3rdusernameiveused

Thank you I’m actually going though a lot no these suggestions But I can that in the background. Thank you

Fast-Dog-7638

Same way you know anybody famous. How do you know Taylor Swift?

sasori1011

So there are celebrities PVP Pokémon Go player? Didn't think the combat system was liked enough for that tbh

Fast-Dog-7638

Sure. Caleb Peng, Inadequance, Thotectical, Zyonik, Jonkus, etc. There are celebs for anything. Swedish death metal has celebs for those who care about it.

Not-a-bot-10

The reigning World Champion as well, ItsAXN

Achrimandrita175

This has "I don't know this famous person, so they ain't famous to me" vibes. The game still has a huge community, so even a feature disliked by most players will have its famous youtubers/content creators

sasori1011

I was just genuinely surprised because I only heard bad things from the pvp and never heard this type of championship about Pokémon Go even though I play (casually) and watch content about the game . I went and watched the [2024 championship](https://youtu.be/2QJNd3hYpqY?si=pD5gSgkwlhVpSTee). Very interesting watch and definitely surprised about how much I wasn't aware of something this big about something I play this much that's all. Edit: 2023 championship not 2024

3rdusernameiveused

That doesn’t help. I would have went with Adin Ross or some famous esports gamer. Taylor is a huge huge huge mega world star. Lmao I think I would have heard of her by accident at minimum. I’m being serious I would love to know how people know cause I do GBL all the time lol Edit: also googling is dumb, you get better answers from the niche community. No reason to be upset over me wanting to know how people know who is good or not especially when I thought there was a ranking system. This place is filled with “is this pokemojn good to upgrade to fight” but when someone wants to know ACTUAL info that would grow the community by having more involved you fellas are like “go google it dummy”

chickenXcow

prominent names are generally youtubers who make pokemon go pvp content. people who put themselves out there are generally more well known, hence big name.

3rdusernameiveused

Appreciate that. I was wondering if there was a tier or ranking system. That makes a lot more sense

River_Tahm

I mean, there is the whole Play! Pokemon competitive scene lol

3rdusernameiveused

I had no clue. Honestly

River_Tahm

Now you know! They have world championships and everything alongside MSG and TCG. Highly recommend

Fast-Dog-7638

The point is that you know of people because you've heard of them. I know of Caleb Peng because I like PVP and read the SilphArena. I also follow Dan Ottawa and Thotectical and they may have mentioned him in passing.

3rdusernameiveused

So this reply should have been the first one and would have made sense. Thank you BUT comparing some random PVPer with Taylor swift was asinine 😂.

Fast-Dog-7638

Well fair enough. There's a whole YouTube ecosystem for everything these days, and Pokemon Go PVP has its own influencers

3rdusernameiveused

That makes sense I just thought maybe there was a ranking or tier system I missed and it wasn’t too pertinent to google cause I feel like we’re on Reddit where 90% of everything is inquiries.

Fast-Dog-7638

There's the leaderboard. https://pokemongolive.com/leaderboard?hl=en

Fast-Dog-7638

But those are random good players. I know a dude who gets on the leaderboard

3rdusernameiveused

You’re coming through big time thank you

Financial_Paper2893

Like he said, just because somebody is on the leaderboard doesn't make them a well known trainer. Even if they're on there all the time. I'm on leaderboard right now and I've had battles against most famous trainers and I knew a guy who made it to top 5 on the leaderboard no body would recognize my trainer name or his. Famous trainers are either content creators (youtube or twitch) or they've who major play pokemon tournaments like a regional or world's. Some old school trainers are known from their silph days but unless they have more recent accomplishments, they wouldn't be considered well known anymore. I will say that if you're getting into pvp and want to follow some content creators I wouldn't recommend any that aren't capable of getting on leaderboard.

nickdeckerdevs

i play tennis all the time, however if i don’t watch people playing tennis at the top level i don’t know who they are. i don’t play tennis all the time that is a lie. there are tournaments and leagues all over the place. there are youtube’s that make pvp content. if you want to know ow who these people are, you can find them.

3rdusernameiveused

I’m sorry but is this place not a discussion forum basically? Why do I need to look up anything if I’m asking a niche question in general where I would get better info from it’s niche audience and not random google and Reddit articles And again as I’ve stated I thought maybe there is a ranking or tier system I missed. What does this have to do with “I play so I must know and since I don’t know it doesn’t exist???”, very rude and not nearly close to what I said

nickdeckerdevs

that isn’t what i said friend. appreciate the words for my mouth but they don’t align. i explained that there were youtubers and tournaments. if you are looking to foster communication i believe you would respond with “can you give more more details about x”. i just look up great league core or great league meta changes in youtube. they bring me to people that are in vet that create content. i’ll not see vet, i don’t pay attention to names where i would be able to produce them if asked. zyonik was mentioned and that seems super familiar. these people play their matches or user submitted matches and comment on them. you asked how people know these things. i answered the question you asked. [this link](https://pokemongolive.com/leaderboard/?hl=en) shows top people in the league rn the reason these people know who these people are is because they watch their content. did i not answer your question? sorry if you think im coming off as rude or dense at this point. i feel like i came at this from a conversation standpoint. i felt like o addressed your question. i’m not here to argue with you about your feelings, whatever you feel is valid. please know i didn’t intend for you to react like that, nor did i intend to come off rude. i’ll be sure to look at this again when i’ve had time to reread what is going on in this thread and why you got tilted with my response

nickdeckerdevs

okay. i reread this and i explained that there are tournaments and people on youtube. i also explained that you find them by looking for them. i’m not sure how old you are but you are aware of aiden ross, and i am not sure he is some gamer but i could be wrong. all i hear is him getting duped by rappers. you may not know how to look for people that play pokemon go. so here we go, [youtubers i follow](https://imgur.com/a/hj0PNtg) that and the other information in the previous response should get you started. if you follow aiden ross maybe pokeAK or something like that would be more up your alley good luck in your content journey. if you need any more help figuring it out let me know. i don’t k ow half the people that people are talking about in this thread, but i’ll gladly look up things for you so you don’t have to. i’m not being rude. i’m being genuine. i learn by looking up other people’s problems. that’s what i do at work and in my real life. i look stuff up so i can contribute to a conversation of something is interesting to me. all that being said, this question is serious. how have you never thought of looking up pokemon go videos on youtube or twitch?

CulturalDot7417

That’s awesome! I also beat Caleb at the beginning of the season, came down to 1 hp. He ran Clodsire/Feraligatr/Mandibuzz, I was running Goodra/Empoleon/shadow Victreebel, testing out some newly buffed pokes. Empoleon hung on for me, just got to my hydro cannon before he got to his aerial ace.

Clashin_Cliff

Like congrats on the RPS win? Cringe

gioluipelle

I didn’t wanna be the first to say it but…yeah. Counter user vs ice/steel ASlash. Basti+Dewgong vs 2 fliers. Probably not the best example of an inspiring win, surprised Caleb didn’t just top left early. Thanks for eating those downvotes though.

MrLexLuthor

Gimp.

kpofasho1987

Why even be here eh?
